Delicious breakfast at fair prices. I had the Classic Benedict with chunky potatoes rather than hash browns. The ham steak with thick with no fat or gristle, and nice char grilled marks and flavor. The eggs were perfectly poached and the Hollandais sauce generous. Service was excellent and the ambiance cool retro.
Great little joint that I stopped at while on vacation. Parking looks like it can be a challenge during peak hours. However, it was easy to get in and out on a Monday morning. Food was well presented, tasted great, didn't break the bank, staff was wonderful, and food only took 10 minutes at most to come out after ordering. I loved the decor and vibes and if I'm in SD again, this will be on the return to list. If the owners read this, please let the staff know that they were fantastic (AM shift of 2/23/26)
Outside back deck the place to dine. Had a great breakfast. Lots of fun old movie memorabilia inside this cool building. Good breakfast stop. Busy stop so give yourself ample time, but great service
Fun little diner with a 1940s vibe to it. Food was good, staff was friendly. I got the chorizo breakfast burrito and it was delicious.
I was recommended this place by a former colleague, and it did not disappoint. Although it’s small, there’s plenty of parking available. The staff greeted us promptly and were incredibly accommodating, especially considering we had little ones with us. The food was absolutely delicious; we highly recommend it! On this visit, I tried the BLT sandwich, which was made with fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, crispy bacon, and mayo, served on your choice of wheat or white bread, along with a side of fries. My daughter ordered the meal that included three mini hamburgers and fries, while my three little ones enjoyed cheeseburgers with fries. Overall, the food was fantastic, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!
We have been coming here for years! Food, service, and atmosphere great. Honestly the food always been great and hands down to the chef. They really have better food than most breakfast places. Price point fair. Just a cute spot to hang out. My moms favorite place.
SC Photography captured the essence far more eloquently than I could so I'll fill in ancillary detail. We were served by Audrey who was awesome--attentive but in no way obtrusive. All staff kept an eye on us to ensure we needed not--well done. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and eclectic. Music was present in background only permitting casual conversation. Seating was warm, inviting, and plentiful with over 50 int he diner proper and an equal amount on the deck which overlooks an inspiring mountain Vista. Don't overlook this hidden gem, especially when waiting for your young one to enlist at MEPS. Classic American diner.
First time visiting in over 6 years...place is still great for service and food is tasty. Biggest complaint is the parking lot only fits about a dozen cars, but street parking is plentiful. Serving size is large and the eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly. Had the bloody Mary and it was served with a slice of warm crispy bacon, seriously hit the spot.
This is if I go to place when I'm in the area. I love the atmosphere. It's an old studio diner. With lots of movie props around. The food is always really good here. Plenty of food at a good price. The waitresses were very attentive quick to respond to your needs. If you like to go places that are just a bit different this is the place to go. Definitely old school diner.
We were told about this restaurant in 2023 during San Diego Comic-Con. But we could not go during the convention. Fast forward to 2025, we had to go to San Diego for a meeting. Hubby asked what are we going to do for food. We came here. To quote my SO, “the food was lovely” It was good and worth a return visit. Parking can be challenging. There is also some street parking. The tables have stickers telling diners of a 90 minute table limit. We did not feel rushed at all. We ordered a waffle. Bacon and eggs for my Hubby. Sausage and eggs for me with hash browns on the side. We expected a wait. Our food came out in under 15 minutes. We enjoyed our breakfast and will try to come back for lunch.
Studio Diner in San Diego doesn’t scream for your attention…but it deserves it. Walking in, you don’t expect culinary fireworks, you expect comfort. What you get is both. The San Diego Burger came out looking deceptively simple, but one bite told the real story. It was as if a Michelin-starred chef got bored of tweezers and foam and decided to hide out in the back, channeling every ounce of precision into building a burger layered with peak complexity. Juicy, balanced, seasoned like someone gave a damn. Each component worked together like a band that’s been on the road for years….tight, flawless, unapologetic. Pair that with eggs cooked with surgical perfection, orange juice that tasted like it had been sun kissed minutes before hitting the glass, and coffee that never fell below half full because the staff knew what you needed before you did. The service? Attentive in that effortless way…refills appeared without ceremony, just a quiet confidence that you were being taken care of. In a city overflowing with noise, flash, and foodie gimmicks, Studio Diner cuts through with something far rarer: honesty. It’s not trying to be trendy. It’s not chasing clout. It’s just a diner that serves food worthy of respect, with the grace and precision of people who actually love the craft.
My family went to visit San Diego for the day during this past memorial weekend. We had spent the afternoon at a playground with our kids by the beach and got hungry. My husband found this place and we decided to go and try it! As soon as we were greeted by the host, we knew we were in the right place. She was very kind and gentle mannered with my kids. Sweet girl! Our waitress was super nice and my kids felt comfortable enough to order their own meals! Usually our little 2 year old hide behind our shoulder if she feels off with a person. The Staff was very kind and ensured we were taken care of during our dinner. Ensured we had what we needed to enjoy our meals. We ordered the kids chicken tenders, and Mac and cheese while we ordered the BLT and Fish and Chips. My toddlers were pretty quiet because they were actually eating their meals and enjoying it! That’s a huge win for us parents! I had the BLT and it was delicious!! The portion was huge but perfect at the same time because I was so hungry. The bread was toasted but soft enough to not have everything inside the sandwich fall out while taking a bite. The bread wasn’t overly thick. It’s the perfect bread/tomato/bacon/lettuce ratio. The clam chowder cup was really good! The cup is a good size if you’re getting a meal next to it so you don’t get too full. My husband enjoyed the Fish and Chips. I had a bite to try and it was so yummy! He was very happy with his choice in dinner. For dessert my husband ordered a kit-kat milkshake and he swore he was in heaven lol. The kids and I ordered a banana split (with no peanuts due to an allergy) and when the server brought it to the table, I swear my kids had seen a unicorn! I can tell you for sure they don’t have that reaction when they see Mickey Mouse LOL. Amazing and delicious overall and we shared our experience with our family members as well! This will be our stop when we go down to San Diego or coming back home. Thank you again for making this experience a huge win! We will be back! 🥰
I have been going to Studio Diner for over 20 years and this restaruant stil delivers! On this visit I ordered the steak sandwich and my friend ordered a burger with no bun(gluten free). Everything was fresh, seasoned well and delicous, For dessert, I ordered the banana split with no whip cream. The banana split is probably the best in San Diego! The service here is always great too. The atmosphere is homy and has a great movie theme. I can't wait to come back for more tasty food. Eat up!!!
We decided to try Studio Diner for the first time. It did not disappoint! It's a true diner. The bar seats, the booths with the pools to hang your coat or hat. I liked that authenticity. The service and atmosphere birth great as well. I ordered breakfast, the Denver Omelet w/ home potatoes. Or Mihammy Vice. I know I messed up the name. Sorry y'all. But it was PERFECT!! The right ratio of ham and peppers. The home potatoes cooked perfectly with great flavor! I also ordered a hot chocolate, which was delish as well. My friend ordered the Monster BLT. It is exactly that, a monster size. Lol. He enjoyed 1/2. He also got sweet potato fries with it and a beer. Great did, great service, great atmosphere. I definitely recommend y'all give this place a visit out two. I know I can't wait to go back and try something else.
One of the few classic diners in San Diego. For some reason I had never visited here even though I grew up in San Diego, but now that I live in Los Angeles, I’m a huge fan of diners and actively seek them out. Was visiting family for Christmas break so had to check out Studio Diner, even though it is not close to where we live. I was really happy that I made the trip because the food was great and so was the service. It’s a true retro 1950s rock ‘n’ roll themed diner and was designed just as you would hope and expect. Inside feels like a gulf stream and it really transports you back to a different time. They have two parking lots (one small and one large) with free parking or there are also some spaces right on the street in front which is where we parked. Everything that we ordered came out extremely fast and pricing is very fair. For my first visit, I wanted to try a diner classic so I chose the Chicken Fried Steak and was very impressed with it. It was not overly fried and still had a lot of flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly to my order and it was just an overall great breakfast. They also were quick with the coffee refills, and the portion sizes are very generous. I would definitely recommend to any fan of diners or anyone in San Diego searching for a great breakfast, brunch, or lunch or dinner option.
Katelynn is the best server hands down, the food is consistently good never any complaints, and the staff are always friendly.

I'm partial to diners for their kitschy ambience and variety of fare, and I like this one as it's more authentic than say, Corvette Diner. We were in the area and had lunch, she had a BLT the size of Montana, and I had the Reuben sandwich which truly rivaled DZ Akins. The fries are not my favorite, but with sandwiches that size, who cares? They also serve the rare Monte Cristo, but that's enough calories for 3 meals. Service was excellent, and the background music was mid-50s to 60s if you like nostalgia. Only downside is probably parking, which frankly is very rare in front of the diner - majority have to park in an adjacent lot and walk 50yds, but it's free. UPDATE: We were in the area again yesterday, and I decided to try breakfast (it's served all day), specifically the eggs benedict. The picture shows how thick the ham is; the thickest I've ever seen on a benedict. Also, they make their own hollandaise sauce as well as salsa.
I got the Bacon Cheeseburger Chop Salad! On 18 bucks! Chopped iceberg, diced grilled burger, diced tomato, bacon, diced pickles, diced onion, brioche croutons, shredded cheese and 1000 island dressing. I asked for them to saute and caramelize the onions and they did that with no issues. It was a slow day and got to sit outside with no issues with service.
You must get wrong. You think this restaurant focus on only mood of movie and is comical diner. No, Completely NOT. They serve good burger. I recommend everyone the Eastwood Burger. You can feel meat, meat, and meat! And pickle's flavor is blend but it makes me can concentrate meat! Every ingredient is for the meat like this pickle. Eastwood is from Mr. Clint Eastwood, right? The burger is same as great as him. Taste like the Dirty Harry, and this restaurant is Million-dollar Baby, You can construct a bridges at Madison country. It was Saturday morning (7am), but many people came to the restaurant. You could understand the reason why they are loved by customers if you go. I was about to greet a picture of Elvis. He stands entrance. (The Eastwood burger and fries. $20.42)
Studio Diner is a fun and nostalgic spot that really knows how to deliver on both food and atmosphere. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm, friendly service. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, making sure everything was just right throughout the meal. The cleanliness of the restaurant stood out right away—tables were spotless, the floors were well-kept, and even the restrooms were impressively clean. You can tell they take pride in keeping the place looking sharp. What really makes Studio Diner special is the unique movie-themed design. It feels like you stepped onto a retro Hollywood film set, complete with vintage décor, film reels, and old-school memorabilia. The walls are covered with movie pictures and posters that add to the charm and tell a story with every glance. Whether you’re stopping in for a meal or just soaking in the ambiance, Studio Diner gives you a real taste of old-school Hollywood with great food and even better vibes. Highly recommend!
The vibes here are amazing. It's an old school type of diner, I believe from the 1940s. The food is decent, but the milkshake was AMAZING, probably the best shake I've ever tried. The hash browns tasted a little bland which was unfortunate. Service is great. There's not much parking here so you might need to park elsewhere if it's really packed.

This diner has a great look and a lot of visual appeal, which initially drew us in. The food was decent but fairly average. The biggest downside was the service, which felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. It’s a place with potential, but the experience didn’t quite match how nice it looks.

It's really overpriced food that you think you're going to have a really awesome nostalgic feeling of the atmosphere. The breakfast burrito was a letdown. The Reuben sandwich was okay I didn't know I had Russian dressing It probably said I didn't realize it. And the shake was really good. Think it was like a chunky monkey or something like that. Our server was amazing was really cool. Was on it. But I feel like I could find so many other restaurants in that area that would have given me better tasty food for my money. We really wanted to like it. Been wanting to hit this spot up for a while. I would definitely go to another retro diner than this one. People there's many out there just look for them don't make this one a hotspot. You really are not missing that much. Literally the menu is limited to. Normally we take pictures of food and post it with all our reviews This one not even worth it. It's the sad truth.
