Wonderful dummpling place all freshly hand make. We cannot wait to bring them home, so we order one juicy pork xioa lang bao to eat there and one to go along with 2 pork bun to go. The place is mainly for take home but there are few tables for eat it also. You want to eat the xiao lang bao nice and hot, so be careful because there is hot soup in the bao. I put the bao on the soup spoon bite the tip of the bao to make a small hole on top so I can suck the soup first before eating the bao. 😋
Super fresh, great dumplings with traditional fillings. The staff really loves what they do. The pork and shrimp Xiao loong bao has big chunks of fresh shrimp. The chicken and mushroom bao were plump and juicy. The boiled pork and garlic chive dumplings had lovely chewy skins and lots of juicy meat and plenty of garlic chives in them. They served them to us fresh from the pot. So very good. There is red chili oil, black vinegar, and soy sauce available. We were lucky enough to get to see the staff at their lunch, too.
Update Review: I feel back to China when I was at this place, it’s a nice and warm feeling. Their buns and bao are all hand made, you can see they are making the food through the glass window at their store. Their foods are delicious, I tried Dill & Pork and Sauerkraut & Pork bao this time, so yummy!!! I feel I can eat two more for sure. I also had a pork & thousand years egg porridge, it’s nice! I sent a photo to my mom, I believe she will be happy to know that there’re good hand made bao place in San Diego. Previous Review: I think it’s a very delicious place, the buns they made taste like the ones I had when I was little. I recommend their signature pork buns. The pork feet is yumm too, it was a little bit tough to chew, but the flavor is very nice. The dumplings we got are frozen, which stuffed with lamb & carrots. They are kinda pricy $35 for 50 pieces, but I’m looking forward to trying them soon.
Hell yeah Having a bad day? Coming here So good So chill Eat here, then do your groceries Get a box of 9 egg n chives Then order more, go home and freeze egg n chives Pig ears are rather tasty as well
Inside the 99-Ranch Market in the back. Plenty of free parking in front or back. They have a bunch of freshly steamed, ready to go boxes of buns ready to go. The prices are reasonable and the quality is really good.
This is the first time in years that while eating pork dumplings I was reminded of living in China. The noodles are good too. Recommended.
Loved every single item we got! Staff was friendly and accommodating for a peanut allergy

I really like their frozen lamb dumplings and their xiao long bao. They are affordable and easy to have good meals at home. Highly recommend their dumplings that you can prepare at home or eat at the place.
As a Chinese, this is definitely one of my favorite spot in San Diego. I like everything I get from the shop. Always get the pork bun, chives egg bun, pork with sauerkraut bun. It’s very authentic, handmade. It’s great for breakfast with a hot soymilk. Also highly recommend their cold appetizer like shredded potato!
Not sure why this place doesn't have a line out the door. These dumplings and baos remind of the ones in China. You can watch them making everything behind the glass. Highly recommended.
Wow, super good dumplings. I came here feeling weird and wanting something different. Excellent prices for meals that will fill you up just right. Someone on here said if you have a bad day come here and I may take that to heart from now on. Just be sure to get here early because they sell out of their best buns by mid afternoon. I got Napa and pork which was fine but I was curious about the red bean and the beef with onion. Oh well! I also got water boiled shrimp and pork dumplings. I normally get panfried so this was a treat and so hearty and warm and filling. Super slippery but delicious nonetheless.

Xiao long bao pork steamed dumpling were the best we had. The wontons are good but the brith is clear and insipid, we actually brought them home to add very tasty homemade broth. The fried pork and chives dumpling were very well hand made not greasy, crispy bottom. The sauces are just chili oil and soy sauce, we will definitely order to go next time, eat at home with our favorite condiments since I think these would go great with Sriracha and good quality Japanese soy sauce I buy next door @ 99 Ranch. You can watch the ladies making everything from scratch in the back, super cool and so much work involved. Parking in the back is best. You can also get some delicious bbq pork or duck in the place across from this. Very clean. No bathroom.
I’ve been coming here for baos. They have so many flavors to choose from. All baos are made fresh daily. You can actually watch them making baos at the restaurant. I liked the original pork baos. I will definitely go back to try more flavors.
Another grand adventure to the land of yummy steam buns!! If you happen to be a bun connoisseur like myself, or fancy yourself to try something new. I think you’ll enjoy a quick bite here. I myself can’t wait to try everything here, but it’s a fairly small place with random fake brick walls. Have no idea why but I didn’t design the place. Num-num highlights: -I enjoyed the beef & onion and the sauerkraut pork buns….

Food: 3/5 Service and Setting: 2.5/5 Value: 3/5 Located inside 99 Ranch Market, Sunny Dumpling House as never a restaurant that I really looked at. Going in, it is pretty clean and new looking. I like the sort of outdoor China vibe they got going. The workers are quick and snappy but not overly mean. If you have language anxiety, they do speak English so do not fear! Parking is normally easy but if you are afraid of getting trapped in the parking lot by bad drivers, definitely park in the front lot versus the back. Their credit card machine was broken so I needed to put in my information manually, very sketch I’m not gonna lie. Overall, it was okay. If you need a little snack after shopping or getting boba it’s fine but nothing more. Green Onion Twist Roll: 4/5 If you get this, please make sure to reheat it in the microwave or steam it. They are served at room temperature and taste much better after being warmed up. Fluffy, chewy, and bland in the best way, this served with a cup of hot soy milk or milk tea is a breakfast for champions. The green onion flavor is very faint but adds a light touch of flavor for this yummy bread. Pork Bun: 2.5/5 A bit sweeter than normal pork buns, this bun Is not really extraordinary in any way. The meat filling is slightly better quality than a frozen bao but would not convince me it is homemade or from a restaurant. It literally just tastes like sweet soy sauce and not much else. Beef and Onion Bun: 2.5/5 When I think about beef and onion buns my mind immediately goes to rough pieces of meat and hearty chunks of onion. The meatball filling is smooth and has no texture whatsoever. The smell of onion is there, but there is very little onion flavor. Underwhelming, but I can see some picky eaters enjoying this.

Sunny Dumpling House is conveniently located inside of the 99 Ranch Market on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. We had previously ate here a few years ago when they were new but haven’t been back since then. No problems finding parking. Restaurant was unassuming, small and family run. It appeared that they have expanded their menu greatly since our last visit. We ordered shrimp and pork xia long bao and soy milk at the cashier counter. They gave us our receipt with the assignedour order number. We managed to secure a table to sit down. This small restaurant only has 3-4 tables as the restaurant space was used as an extension of the kitchen preparation area. We have a clear view of the Chinese aunties team kneading and rolling the dough to make various dumpling/bao in the open kitchen. In the back, there’s a kitchen where they steam, fry and cook various dumpling, bao and entree dishes on the menu. There was a steady stream of customers ordering take out food at the counter through out our visit. After waiting for 20 minutes for one order of xia long bao, we were losing patience and asked the cashier/hostess for status of our order. Cashier checked and then told us that the dumplings were still being steamed and we had to wait for another 8 minutes. At this point, all our patience went out the window. It’s obvious that the cashier or the kitchen staff forgot our order. After waiting for another 3-4 minutes, an employee from the kitchen brought out the hot xia long bao to our table and apologize for the wait. No formal apologies offered to acknowledge their mistake and no efforts offered to make things right. On top of that, the xia long bao were big disappointment to say the least. The dough was thicker than the normal Kia long bao we were accustomed to. The blend of the shrimp and pork mixture was not the right ratio and lacked light and flavorful texture. We barely tasted the shrimp flavor as the pork mixture dominated the filling. Some of our xia long bao leaked out the soup/juice inside. The food was underwhelming and we had to wait for nearly 30 minutes for just one order of steamed xia long bao. We wanted to like this restaurant very much but due to poor food quality and inadequate positive customer service, we won’t be back.

Don't get the dan dan noodles!!! Salty and literally just noodles stir fry in oil and minced pork with salt. Spicy wontons were ok, nothing to write home about either I ordered 2 things and there were only 2 or 3 people ahead of me. Ended up waiting there for more than 20 minutes (or more?) And that's because I went and asked, otherwise I would have been there and no one would know i was waiting for food. Not worth my time or money.

Absolutely disgusting. I bit into a vegetable bun from Sunny Dumpling House and found a large piece of hard black plastic inside the filling. Not stuck to the outside — literally mixed in with the vegetables. This is a serious health hazard, and it’s shocking that something like this made it past their kitchen. I could have choked or seriously hurt myself. I used to enjoy coming here, but after this experience, I will never eat here again — and I strongly urge others to think twice. If they can’t keep plastic out of their food, what else are they being careless about? This is not a spam!!!
