Bun Mee is a popular spot in Pac Heights known for its fresh, flavorful Vietnamese-inspired dishes. Customers rave about the sandwiches, salads, and bowls, especially the five-spice chicken and pork noodle bowl. Some find the banh mi small for the price and coffee too sweet.

One of the best buhn mi sandwiches I’ve ever had!! Sweet spicy smoky tangy on a baguette soft on the inside, slightly crunchy outside
Truly the best fast casual place in Pac Heights! Delicious, healthy, unique… Bun Mee meals are the best. I regularly get the rainbow salad with chicken, but all of the other options are great too! Highly recommend the brussel sprouts as well. My husband and I order pick up from here multiple times a week, it’s that good.
Amazing - I always look for something a little different and Bun Mee hit the spot. We got a bowl (wife has gluten allergy), I got the 5 spice chicken sandwich and we shared an order of the spring rolls and an order of the garlic pepper fries. Everything was great, but the fries were amazing - literally the best fries I have ever had. It wasn't busy, but you could tell they did a good takeout business with delivery people popping in every few minutes. The interior was clean, including the bathrooms which were spotless. The staff was very attentive and friendly - highly recommend!
I love the chicken! In a salad, on a sandwich in the pho. Yum! Such friendly staff too!
I always get the hawker bowl with chicken when I come here because it has no peanuts, and it is great! The food is super clean-tasting and presentable and it’s a great casual lunch that will leave you satisfied. Sometimes, on weekdays at lunchtime, it gets a little crowded, so beware if you plan to sit down. Otherwise, favorite lunch!
Great spot, excellent service- staff is so friendly
I really love the rice bowls here! Lots of fresh veggies, the five spice chicken is freshly cooked and tender. Even though parking is rough in the Fillmore, I still drop by here when I can. It's definitely worth it.
Food doesn't take a long time. Lots of seating inside and outside. Friendly staff! The bun noodle bowl was a great quantity and their pork was so fatty and tasty. Remember to ask them specifically for hoisin sauce! I recommend this if you're looking for a pretty solid meal without waiting too long.
I love Bun Mee, they’re one of the better local, SF chains (with only two locations). This place is always empty at dinnertime, so there’s never a wait. The Bun Noodle Bowl is a huge amount of food, and the pork is delicious, definitely recommend. The Banh Mi is a bit small for the costs, but still good.
Quick, easy, and delicious spot. Can’t go wrong with the fried chicken bun (my fav) and the egg rolls. Today we tried the noodle bowls and those did not disappoint. Would love it if they had lemongrass chicken!
We sat outside and were very comfortable. They kindly brought our sandwiches out to us. The smoky eggplant sandwich with red curry mayo was wonderful-- crispy outside/ soft inside bread, tender flavorful eggplant, and crisp, fresh veggies. My companion thought the pork belly sandwich was great-- not too rich, just satisfying. Nice that they gave us Sriracha sauce packets so we could customize heat.
Came here on a hot day and enjoyed sitting outside and having a refreshing and nutritious Five Spice chicken Salad $9.75, a Kale Mango Coconut side salad $3.99, and a Beef with peanut sauce and veggies rice bowl. Delicious and great value!
A great place for salads, drinks and their salt n pepper garlic fries are worth a try. Fresh, garlicky and best for a fan of fries!!!
Food was delicious and service was really fast! The inside is really beautiful too. We got the Bun Bowl and the 5 Spices Chicken sandwich. Would highly recommend.
Best Bahn Mi in SF. Excellent vegan and vegetarian options, both bowls and sandwiches. The lemongrass tofu and chicken bahn mi are delicious, as are the fresh spring rolls. Service can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are.

Great food! We split the tofu sandwich and had an ube coconut drink. I would have appreciated wifi, as we were traveling, but I get it. Everything tasted really fresh, though.

First time ordering a banh mi, and it was amazing. I got it delivered, and was pretty impressed with how neatly the sandwich was wrapped (I ordered the fried egg+tofu sandwich). The food was great. Will be ordering again!
This place is not only super cute, it’s a perfect place to sit! They have the cutest window seats and the food is super fresh and I felt good after eating here. The staff are lovely and accommodating, what a treat!

My husband and I are moving back into the Bun Mee neighborhood and have already eaten there twice. The attached photo from this week is of the steak sandwich. So delicious!. Here's what I said 3 years ago: Hungry and not wanting to have a formal sit down dinner, my husband and I stumbled on Bun Mee the other evening. Glad we did. We liked the informal atmosphere. Nice music, which was not too loud. And, most importantly, the food was delicious and we got it quickly. Thumbs up to the Combo 8 sandwich and the Chicken Pho. We want to return to Bun Mee and try other dishes. No phood photos because we ate it all up!
TLDR: That combo banh-mi sandwich is on point but that Viet coffee was whack (too sweet and too bitter) I ordered with a very friendly person and the food was served promptly. The Vietnamese coffee was completely disgusting and I threw it out after a few sips. However the banh mi is on point, with all the meats having their own distinct flavor and enough pate to make a difference. All in all, very good food but that drink was so bad it took off a star by itself
This place was pretty good. The service was great and they made my order on the spot, only took 10 minutes for for 2 banh mi's The Banh Mi's were ok, the chicken liver pâté was kinda bland like it needed more salt, but I love the consistency and loved that they gave me a good portion, the gave plenty of meat and tons of toppings and the bread was great! Overall I'd say this place was decent, and I'd go here again and play around with the options to see what works better for me Sorry I forgot take a picture of the sando cuz I started smashing right away lol
I had tried the Bun Mee location at terminal 3 at SFO a few times when I am transfer flights. I’m always happy I stop by to get one of their delicious sandwiches. During a recent visit to San Francisco, I had to try the store on Fillmore Street. I stopped in one of my last nights there and ordered the five spice chicken banh mi sandwich and an order of sweet potato fries. The sandwich with a soft interior and crunchy exterior was so delicious! The grilled five spice chicken “Bun Mee” sandwich comes with caramel mayo, shaved onion, pickled carrots & daikon, cucumber, jalapeños and cilantro. Really a wonderful meal. The sweet potato fries were also cooked to perfection and a great accompaniment! The fries served with a curry mayo dipping sauce are very tasty!
Had the pork combo sandwich, it was very good. Very rarely that a shop sells a combo with grilled pork and not only cold cut viet ham. Service was very quick, got my sandwich 60 seconds after sitting down to dine. The bread was perfect, crunchy but soft, that's a sign of freshness, unlike those cheaper versions where you have to rip it apart like a stale steak. The only knock I can give it is the price, fairly expensive for bread and meat.

I got the combination banh mi and it was pretty filling. I found the cooked meat's seasoning to be kinda weird. I didn't think it went well with the other fillings. Value is not bad for the amount of food given. Had better Banh mi in the city.
Food was kinda okay. Egg roll filling was not bad but not complex. The fried paper wasn't crispy. Unsatisfactory bite. The price initially seemed good, two for $7, then when I got it it was underwhelming. Two for $4 maybe. Got the classic combo and when you pick up half the sandwich everything looks good. Meat, pate,, fatty butter, pickled carrots. Basil is a nice touch that other locals don't do but I hear it's what ppl in Vietnam do. The pate was a little bit salty for me and the meat was just an okay amount of flavor and taste. Overpriced. The menu seemed diverse which I felt like I wanted to come back to try more items. But the lack of flavors is pushing me out the door. Decor and atmosphere is reminiscent of the meme pictures of expensive burger place starter pack. The hot sauce pictures and tin cans of coffee used for holding items are the closest thing to seeing a personal touch of decor, of identity. Pretty bland. Service i noticed is good. They do check on ppl and help with guessing their needs.
So this is a 4 star place that I downgraded to 3(see end). The food was ok. It was an Americanized view on Vietnam’s food but not really authentic. But was still good. Service was ok. A bit slow taking order but ok. Why did I down rate it. Well I am doing this in all restaurants that add a surcharge rather than adjust the food prices. This seems to be a thing in sf but I consider it to be a con. Not only do I need to add tax, tips bit but now a surcharge too. It’s making a mockery of the actual price. Why not go further and cut the food prices and add a 50% surcharge. So this was a 4 star restaurant down graded to 3 because of a managment decision to add a surcharge rather than increase the price.
As other reviewers said, the meat was quite dry, and I found it lacked flavours. The baguette was dry and hard. For the price they could do better than this. Sweet potato fries on the other hand were quite tasty. The service was fast.
More like Bun Mid! Just kidding, Bun Prettygood! Get the five spice chicken over the classic, and get some of their garlic fries. Great place for a reasonably priced lunch when you don’t know where to eat along Japantown’s fringe ends and all other places require you to wait until hell freezes over (purely hypothetically).

I’ve been here several times before, on my last visit it was pretty bad across the floor. 1. This place is filthy!!!! Get a broom. Wipe down your tables. Food everywhere. 2. Please CLEAN your bathroom. Unacceptable. 3. My sandwich was really not good. The pate shoved on only onside. Not many veggies, wayyy too much mayo. For the price, please put some consideration into your offering.
Maybe I went in with misguided expectations, but I was thoroughly disappointed with what I got. I ordered egg rolls and the five spice chicken sandwich. Please avert your attention to the attached picture, noting the portion size of the egg roll. Those four slices of egg roll were $6. The sandwich had waaay too much carrot in it, and wasn't terribly filling either. Both tasted all right, but definitely weren't worth the price. Probably the worst case of SF prices I've experienced, considering how unremarkable the meal was.
Ordered the “Five Spice Chicken” sandwich for $14. It was so flavorless…I’m not sure what it would have tasted like if it only had one spice. Aside from that, it’s your typical overpriced hipster bánh mì place. Save your money and support local Vietnamese businesses.

we ordered chicken pho , Pho at this place is horrible, tasteless, no smell of pho’s broth , that created signature of Vietnamese authentic food. Our pho was just smell a lot of sprouts, they cheated the customer as more sprouts but less noodles . They didn’t even ask us if we want or don’t want sprouts in pho they just dumped all in there , guess what, The sprouts appeared to be never been washed or if it had it may just been a careless washed . My parents can not eat sprouts, i asked them why didn’t they ask before they poured a bunch of food to the cup. it is horrible pho place
I placed an online order for pick up that was confirmed. I showed up at the pick up time and they said the store was closed for a private event. I asked for a refund and they shrugged and said they couldn't help me...
On a mission to try every banh mi in the city. This one is the most expensive, and the worst tasting I’ve had so far and I would have preferred skipping lunch altogether. The pickled veg in the banh mi had an odd aftertaste and was not crunchy, the bread was stale and hard, and the meat was dry with a lackluster flavor and gristly texture. Lots of places for far less money and more flavor in the Sunset and Richmond.
The food is humdrum and banal compared with the myriad of real (corporate free) Vietnamese food found all along Clement st (for much cheaper prices I might add) Worst of all the service by the staff compliment the lethargy, with their unique torridness and lack of commitment to providing you the customer with what you're paying for. They will not read your notes, they wont package your food correctly, and they wont pity you if have a problem with that. Don't waste your time if you're in the area, its about as authentic as panda express which is just down the street and as authentic.
