It's a really fun place. The service was wonderful and there was no cover. The bartender who served us was hot!

My girlfriend and I are two little ladies and stumbled in here trying to avoid straight men while out clubbing. We're outside of the usual demographic that occupies Hole in the Wall, however we felt extremely welcomed! Despite the crowd, the bartender made sure to circle back and tend to us. The decor was some of the coolest we've seen, it was hard not to look around in awe! One of the best safe spaces we've been to!
They have nuts ,but don't serve food. The music is always great. And the people are real. You gotta love it.
Hole in the wall is a place that’s weathered time and space. You might even like in the interior decoration to almost a tiki bar, but with the eclectic gay erotic motorcycle bar style persona it has this place has been solid for multiple decades if anything go into see a little nostalgia, and enjoy the good vibes.
Unique atmosphere, really cool and chill gay biker bar where everyone is welcome. Great spot to have a drink, hang out, and chat without having to scream over ridiculously loud music.
Been here pre and now post plandemic. Nothing changed, this place is back. Was here tonight for Wrestle Mania, pizza and booze. $5 well rum and cokes for 3 hours. There are no pickup bars in SF anymore, but met some old friends and enjoyed my time. It's a dark dive bar, but the decor is original art. The dragon on the ceiling been for the for 20 years, not sure how far it goes back. I bet the decor is older than I am. The bar tender is nice and the clientele are older men, look rough but nice once you get conversing with them.
The best bar in SF. Great music, great people and the best bartenders in the SOMA. Probably the closest thing you will find where men can hang out exclusively with men - well about 90% of the time but these days that's saying a lot. It's awesome!
The best, bar none!! Unless there is a fundraiser or party somewhere, it is the only bar I go to. Some of my best old friends are there. They stream their music on their website as well - it's mostly great! I feel welcome and at home there. I do not understand James Cottle's post, there are no pricey drinks, no cover charge, and most of the people are over 40.
The island of misfit toys meets vintage grunge with a motocycle club built in. Not the place to break in your new white tennis sneakers. No judgements otherwise. Stays within the parameters of decency, but just barely and not during festival-time. Great artistic application to the myriad lights and mobiles above in the high ceiling. Rarely dull.
This is such a great bar. Cash only but fair pricing. Bartenders are friendly and so is the vibe. As someone that doesn't normally even go to bars, I'd definitely be a regular if I was here any longer.
The best bar in San Francisco, maybe the world. Even the gay capitol of the world [perhaps or maybe Amsterdam], Berlin, has some bars that are similar, but not quite up to this snuff. Best music, friendliest crowd and bartenders that are all different and yet share a wonderful human quality.
I'm a little pacific islander boy with a smooth chest and little body odor, but this SOMA bear staple is my favorite bar in the city. Stiff pours, a chill vibe, and the gaudiest decorations you've ever seen. It's somehow over-the-top and understated at the same time. No matter the night of the week, I know I'll have a good time here.
My vehicle was being repaired next door. I just wanted a cup of coffee. This place was right next door! Place is a bar, but they accommodated me with a fresh batch of coffee. It was good too! Staff & patrons were cordial as well!
nice atmosphere with its music. the bar is run by the owner and he’s pretty nice and talkative. i didn’t try the food since i arrived late
This has become my favorite bar in the city to drop by , play pool, be completely yourself and meet an eclectic mix of friendly people with no attitude & very fun atmosphere with cool lights , an artists creation of the universe and so much more. In small package . Sort of a “gay man cave on Folsom”

What an eclectic spot. Hole in the Wall Saloon is exactly what you hope it will be: neon signs buzzing, the jukebox always has something good, and the people-watching is elite. Saturday happy hour? $2 beers that actually taste cold, not flat, and you’ll find yourself staying for “just one more” before you realize it’s dark out. If you like places that aren’t trying too hard, where you can grab a cheap drink, play a round of pool, and chat with folks who aren’t in a rush, this is your place. Cash only, but the ATM is right there. Go. Have fun. Don’t expect fancy, expect a good time.

10/18 I took too long before ordering a beer because i had to take off an inflatable dinosaur and the barkeeper wanted to throw me out. I talked him out of i, but after going to this bar for many years, i doubt i go back.

Felt Violated, Unsafe, and Targeted I had a deeply upsetting experience at this bar on Tuesday night 11/12/2025. I went in needing to use the restroom before ordering a drink, and as I started using the private bathroom (which had no lock), the bartender (an Irish man) suddenly pushed the door open while I was urinating. Instead of stepping away, he stood there watching me and shouting aggressively. It was an outrageous invasion of privacy that made me feel violated and sexually harassed. Afterward, he continued yelling in a foreign language (what sounded like Irish). From what I could gather, he was upset that I hadn’t ordered a drink first. I’ve been to gay bars all over the world, and it’s completely normal for a customer to use the restroom before ordering, but what happened here was absolutely unacceptable. I also felt like I was being targeted because I’m Asian and an easy target. His aggression and attitude made the encounter feel racially motivated and unhinged. No one should ever be treated this way.
The bar my friends and I originally planned to visit was closed, so after taking a Lyft we decided to walk to the next closest spot, the Hole in the Wall Saloon. On the way, we had a scary encounter with some men on the street, so we rushed inside as quickly as we could. Shaken up, we went straight to a booth to collect ourselves. Not even a minute later, the bartender started staring at us and waving us over. When we walked up, instead of any kind of greeting, he snapped: “I said show me your ID. Not go hide in a booth.” I tried to explain what had just happened outside, but he laughed at us. After checking our IDs, he told us the bar was cash-only and then suggested we go to another bar down the road. It was our first time visiting SF, and we were more than happy to support a gay bar — but instead we were made to feel completely unwelcome, as if we were being pushed out. The bar he sent us to (also a gay bar) treated us kindly and understood why we were anxious. Overall: 1/10. Incredibly disappointing experience.
I was refused service here. I don't know what impression i gave the bartender, he was an older gentleman with a grayish beard. i came in and sat down at the bar by myself and after doing literally nothing He told me I came in sideways? I had not spoken a word to anyone or did anything crazy. i was so offended by him assuming I was too drunk to get anything but water. His friend at the bar was taking his side after me just sitting downs and waiting to order??. overall it was an awful experience i will not come back here given the way i was treated for no reason. Really awful service. i did nothing to provoke this reaction and felt singled out for no reason.
