Java on Ocean is a beloved local coffee shop known for its friendly staff, delicious coffee (especially the mochas), and unique atmosphere enhanced by chirping birds. Some find it overpriced and service inconsistent, especially with older staff. Wifi is also reportedly slow.

A hidden gem with flavor, heart, and soul! I had the Beef Kabob Wrap for lunch at Java on Ocean, and I’m still thinking about it! The wrap was absolutely delicious — packed with fresh, halal ingredients, perfectly grilled, and full of flavor. You can tell the care that goes into the food here. What really made the experience special was the vibe and hospitality. The owner was incredibly gracious, and the service was top notch from the moment I walked in. I asked for hot sauce and was guided to a shelf with over 20 varieties — yes, 20! It felt like a hot sauce tasting tour. As I sat down to eat, I noticed the peaceful ambience — with real love birds chirping and singing in the background. It added such a calming, joyful energy to the space. Whether you're coming in for a wrap, dessert, cake, or just a cup of coffee, this place has soul. Definitely a 5-star experience for the food, the service, and the serene atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back!
I thought I did a review when I was in San Francisco last time, but Jovon Ocean is such a lovely place to unwind and just relax have some great coffee. The coffee mochas are the best here and I’m having a pumpkin carrot chip muffin and it’s so great.
Amazing Mexican oat mocha, service and food options. Plenty of parking on a Sunday morning and the art and atmosphere is great. The zebra oat mocha is so good too!
local caffe for excellent mood:))Love this place❤️
I am particularly fond of Ocean Java, where I am greeted with a warm and welcoming staff. The ambiance is truly exceptional, and the delightful melodies of the canaries enhance my visit. I frequent the coffee shops primarily on weekends to dedicate myself to my graduate school assignments, and I would not trade this experience for any other.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! If you're traveling through and want to connect with the neighborhood, this is where you can do that. Great coffee, delicious snakes, cool vibe
This is a great local coffee shop. The place has a big menu with a lot of options for all types of clients. The service is good and the place has a good vibe. I got I cold creamy mocha chai, the drink was delicious I will be coming back to try more of the things in the menu. If you go to ccsf you can easily come here before or after class.
My husband and I have been coming here since it opened. We love it here. We don't live in San Francisco but every time we come to visit my family we make sure to come get a yummy coffee and pastry.
Gourmet food, delicious coffees, great vibe, and a very welcoming owner. The chicken is Halal, and the Walnut Chicken wrap was amazing. Really enjoyed the chirping of the bird
The owner here is a very friendly and kind person. I often come here to study The people working there are really friendly and kind, so you should definitely go to there.and can comfortably study for long hours. They have a wide selection of really delicious items, from sandwiches to sweets such as baked goods. There are plenty of seats and there are outlets where you can charge your electronic devices, so it's a recommended place for people who want to study or do other work.

the mushroom sandwich is just delicious. staff is so kind. the place could be a bit cleaner?
This place is soooo pretty!! The birdies chirping really adds to the atmosphere. I got a Lox Bagel which btw for SF is pretty affordable. My local spot sells it for 15.99 while this place has it for 13.99 if I remember correctly. It is packed with the freshest ingredients😋😋 I just really enjoyed it. ALSO PLEASE get what is called the Dirty Chai Latte. One of the workers explained to me that what made it different was the espresso added and woah soooo amazing. Get it with Oat milk🤌 Random comment but in their fridges they have soo many different rootbeers. I love rootbeer, but I came from the gym so I didn't get it lol. However I'm sure any rootbeer connoisseur would be very pleased!!
I come here almost every morning!🌸 best coffee I’ve came across in San Francisco. Food is awesome and they are fast even if they are busy. The atmosphere makes you want to sit in there all day
Without a doubt, it’s one of the best cafés in San Francisco. The place is incredibly cozy, and the service is impeccable. The café itself is very pleasant, and the owner made us feel right at home. We were traveling along the West Coast and visited many coffee shops, but in the end you remember the one where you felt truly comfortable, because you can feel the personality and care of its owners.
I loved every dish we tried. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It made for a wonderful evening.

Love this cafe but don't come here for the wifi. 2.06 MBps download speeds and 1.86 upload speeds, you'd be better just hot spotting from your phone. If you come here for the atmosphere, food and service, you're in luck!

Coffee was nice, asked for soy milk instead of oat milk and they did that. However, I asked for a breakfast burrito with the Canadian bacon (or whatever it's call), no salsa, no ketchup (not sure why they put ketchup in there in the first place). I Ended up getting a cheese and egg burrito.. didn't taste the best but that's because I don't like burritos with only egg and cheese.

They charge .85 cents if you want to make your drink iced and still charge extra for oat milk even when it’s listed in the drink name. In my opinion, everything is overpriced here. Also the energy of the guy who works here wasn’t very welcoming when I came in the last time, which bothered me as I’m a frequent customer.
The place is super cute but the service was actually so bad. The tone and they act like you are bothering them. At least when it went there were like two older looking employees and they were not nice. I got a matcha it was so bad and watered down since it was like 10 bucks since I got a large I thought it’d be better. I will say their bagels were really good tho.

Today's experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I like coming here to support the local businesses but tonight I was treated pretty rudely. I came in 5 min before 5pm on a Tuesday. I was in the area and decided to come here on a whim. I was helped by two older men, both with glasses, one with a beanie and the other without. I walked up to the register and the one with a beanie asked what I would like. I told him what sandwich I wanted and to get 2 of them. Instantly he replied, "Next time you need to call us ahead to make food because we have things to do. We are closing soon. It would have been easier on us if you had called ahead of time". I was shocked because I've come here at different times of the day and no one has ever said that to me before. I've come at 5pm before and never had I had someone mention that. I just replied, "Oh okay I didn't know that". I was hesitant in continuing the order but decided this might just be the last time I come here since apparently making sandwiches is a hassle. The other man finished the transaction as the one with a beanie made the sandwiches. After he called out my order, I asked him when did they start implementing this rule and what time did they close. He replied that because of the pandemic, they do not have many items and it would be easier to make the sandwich ahead of time. They still had one hour left until closing (closes 6pm). Before the pandemic, they closed at 9pm. I replied that I've come here around this same time recently in the pandemic and he wasn't here and the other people never mentioned that to me. He recognized that we have talked before and he tried to retract what he said --that either way, walk-in or by phone for food is okay at anytime for me. He tried explaining that "it's just much harder" for him that he had to make the sandwiches. I found this incredibly rude because --where does it state that the kitchen closes an hour before? I've worked at Starbucks and have never told anyone that came in as a walk-in to order by mobile to "make things easier for me", no matter how busy or slow it was. Not even during the last hour before closing, heck not even 5 min before! I understand if I had came in 1min before closing but I came in 65 min before closing. If there was a sign that stated to order food by calling, no walk-ins at a certain time--alright, but there was no sign. There were only a few people in the lobby too. To management--add a sign so that people will know that walk-ins for food are not welcomed, "Call-in orders only" to "make it easier" for the workers.

A big disappointment! Food is substantially overpriced even compares to SF, and the portions are small. Service is not pleasant, almost feel like you they being bothered - no smile, no welcome just feel weird. On top of that they play a very loud oriental music that makes it impossible to concentrate, or work. I’ll find myself a better place next time.
I will NEVER RETURN! I was meeting someone there and they arrived before me and set up their computer because we were going to get some business done. They were waiting for me to arrive before they ordered which is what we do even when we meet at Starbucks. Next thing you know a older male employee begins to yell at her for having outside food. The audacity! They had outside food from home in a Tupperware container yet was yelled at because teenagers come in with outside food and leave the wrappers and bags. Still this should not have been my people's issues! I'm disappointed, upset, and shocked! He should not talk to people the way he did. The person I was meeting was so upset especially since she works across the street!! We will never be back or recommend this establishment to anyone.

Staff (specifically the older man) would rather berate a young unhoused lady and treat her like she's not human for dropping crumbs off her blueberry muffin then take the time to call a shelter for her (which took five minutes). Don't work in a coffee shop if you don't want to deal with the public. Ew.
