This spot is the best. I've eaten my way thru the menu 50 times over so it's well past time to leave a review. While Saigon across the street is good this place has the best customer service and better bread/sandwiches in my opinion...so if your own the fence give em a shot!!! Keep up the great work y'all!!
Had the chicken BBQ bánh mì and it was perfect, delicious and filled my hunger. It was large too and extremely well priced at $4.00. Service was wonderful, you talk directly to the sandwich maker herself and sandwich was ready within 5 minutes. Will be coming back if I am ever in the area. This place actually makes me wish I worked around there so I could come here for lunch everyday.
I love L&G so much that I carry an L&G loyalty card in my wallet. I used to prefer another nearby sandwich spot, but L&G is my main now. Their banh mi sammiches are savory succulent toasty toasted baguettes of tastiness. Get the special combo, and spring for a fried egg. The egg's extra, but fried egg! Fried egg. Did I mention fried egg? Thirsty? Get yourself a Vietnamese iced coffee.
rated five stars as soon as I took the first bite. bahn me only 6 bucks with cash
Perfect bahn mi! Bread was warm and fresh. Definitely best spot in SF.
Great sandwich! Good bread, nice flavor with the BBQ chicken, cheap price. Sketchy area around it.
More of a takeout place but there are a few chairs in front of the window if you want to eat there. BBQ Pork sandwich is $6 and if you eat there, the bread is warm and crunchy, this is way better than the nearby Saigon Sandwich IMO.
Delicious; had the barbecue pork Bahn Mi sandwich which was huge, packed with tasty meat and veggies for only 5.50! That’s hard to find a sandwich that size with the insane SF prices. The place is just a little hole in the wall kind of place so atmosphere is non existent, but the lady that served me was attentive, kind, quick service. A+
Best banh mi I’ve had. Perfect ratio of meat to bread and veggies. Meat is tender and juicy while the bread has a perfect crackle with a soft interior. Only place I get banh mi from in SF
Definitely worth the walk from SFchinatown ! Love the Bun Bo Hue ! Order it cold & take home to heat up ! Sandwiches r great too ! Love their rice rolls!
I love this spot. Mom pop ran and they are very nice people. They only have a few soups per day but they are all delicious and tastes homemade and packed with meat! Their sticky rice with sausage and five spice chicken was the new dish I tried today and it was wicked good. The texture of the rice is a winner!
Incredibly tasty Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, super authentic with buttery pate spread. The viet coffee is fantastic, very bold-tasting, strong, and not too sweet. They also take card as well, where as Saigon Sandwiches across the street does not — huge plus. The owners are very friendly and hardworking, this is the best hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shop you can find. Would very highly recommend if you want authentic banh mi & cafe sua da.
Came here after a concert across the street and had this place saved so I needed to try it. The is probably the best bahn mi I’ve had outside of San Jose. And for the price? Plus the owners were really sweet and kind. Hell yeah I’m coming here again!
My favorite banh mi place - great prices, and I love the broiled pork and meatball banh mis (extra pate). And the couple that owns the shop are always soo nice!
Great tasting chicken bahn mi with a strong espresso iced coffee w the condensed milk. Friendly n a great price
An excellent sandwich. Fresh, fluffy french bread, delicious ingredients, perfectly made!!!!!! The price is also awesome, but the sandwich, in and of itself, is really exceptional!!!!! Great lunch!!!!! Fast, fresh, and very tasty.
I love their tofu banh mi + unsweetened tea. Always delish and affordable 😋
We decided to order from L&G for a work lunch. Although we had a low budget per person, we found L&G's prices to be super reasonable, so that everyone was able to get more than enough food. I tried the Chipotle Pulled Pork Banh Mi, as I had never seen chipotle pulled pork as an option for a Banh mi. It did not disappoint! I received a generous portion of the chipotle pulled pork, which was super moist and flavorful and paired surprisingly well with the carrots, jalapeños, and other condiments on the sandwich. Others in my party tried the other types of Banh mis, and several people tried the spring rolls as well. Everyone loved their food, and we only spent $106 for food for 13 people, including the tip. Also, although it is only a small place, they had our order ready right on time, even as they were serving customers coming in for lunch, so it was quite timely. Definitely recommend this place for a solid Banh mi at super reasonable prices!
This place is a good substitute to Saigon if you want an equally great sandwich without the long lines. My combination sandwich which I didn't know what was in it and didn't ask lol was crunchy and soft at the same time. The vegetables weren't overbearing and the meats were tasty, full of flavor and savory. The speed of service wasn't as fast but still an overall Good sandwich.
Hands-down best banh mi value in SF! Reviewing because I live for this shop and have never wished a place to survive so much in this economy. For $5-6, you get the most loaded banh mi with the juicest portions of meat and stuffed full with pickled veggies too. They're so stuffed, I can barely hold them tight! My favs are the Chipotle Pulled Pork and the BBQ Pork. The bread is super soft and even great the next day if you toast it! I usually buy several at a time and portion them throughout the week. The shop is in the tenderloin so be aware the area can be a bit seedy. Don't recommend indoor seating either since it's small, but pickup is super fast if you call ahead to order. I always ask fo extra pickled veggies and the front guy is super nice about it! The sticky rice with sausage is great too. Imo, this shop is much better than the more famous Saigon Sandwich across the street. But see for yourself!
As others state, the levels of ingredients in their banh mi's are superb. Not too much, not too little. The bread is crispy, but still soft inside. I tried the BBQ chicken and the meat was perfectly cooked. You simply cannot beat the price which is currently $5.50, at the time of this review, if you pay in cash. It's in the Tendy, so brace yourself for seeing things, but for a quality sandwich that's under $6, considering how everything in this town is, and has been for a while, insanely overpriced and expensive that overpriced things have become normalized, this last bastion of cheap good food in SF is one of the gems. The lady who helped me was super nice too. They also ACTUALLY have some seating inside, which lots of hole-in-the-wall places don't have anymore post-pandy.
These sandwich is good size and very tasty. You can’t beat the price at $5.50 with cash. They do accept credit card but that would bump this up to $1. Friendly owner. I was recommended the BBQ pork sandwich as it has lemongrass in it 👍 Would recommend!
My go to place for Banh mi and noodle soups. I order from here at least twice a week. They are always nice and friendly. Even if they are busy they still knowledge me. My favorite is the meatball sandwich add Cha Lua. The bread is always crispy. The noodles soup is filling and doesn’t make me sleepy like from other places.
Broiled pork is my favorite, which has a saltier marinade than grilled pork (sweeter). Special combination seems to be whatever they have on hand, which may include salami. This place is often overshadowed by the beloved shop across the street, but absolutely deserves its flowers.
Hear me out - I just went to Vietnam for 3 weeks and I did not have a better banh mi over there than I have had at L&G. The meatball sandwhich is my favorite, bread is crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and they don’t use too much mayo!!! Thank you L&G 😇!
Been going to Saigon Sandwiches for years and discovered L and G a few years ago. Depending on who you talk to, people will still say Saigon makes better sandwiches. I agree. But sometimes Saigon has too many people in line and you just don't have the patience to wait! L and G makes the sandwiches quick and fast. I've tried other things there like rice and drinks. I would stick to their sandwiches. And for 5 dollars, there is not much I can complain about!
Simple and delicious bahn mi. I got the BBQ pork. They toasted their buns, unlike some other local spots. Not bad for under $6
One of my favorite banh mi in SF! I got the bbq pork banh mi. Bread was toasted to order, soft, and crisp on the outside. Had the butter, mayo, and pate. BBQ pork was tasty and hot. I grabbed a banana leaf-wrapped dessert on the way out. (I didn’t catch the name of it.) SO DELICIOUS. The rice was chewy, sticky, aromatic, and perfectly mild sweet. Some shreds of jackfruit in it. Perfect. Can’t wait to come back

Favorite BBQ Pork Banh Mi in the city 🏙️ Hands down the best Banh Mi and prices here in SF, owners are always very warm and appreciate! I hope this place will be around for a long time 🙇🏻♂️

Amazing sandwiches! There is no compromise between quick food, price, nice staff, and quality. Highly recommend! Already going back for seconds!
I've been going all over the city trying to find the best banh mi for under $10. So far, this one takes the cake. Incredibly flavorful and fresh.
This is better than Saigon sandwiches because it does not have MSG. It cost $0.50 more but it's worth it for me. I always get the grill tofu it is not fried. If you are vegan ask or just a soy sauce without any fish sauce or mayonnaise
This spot is the GOAT Bahn-mi and idc what anyone else says. Been going here for lunch for forever, and the kind lady making all the food is the absolute best. Her name is Ki and she always greets me when I come in. Beyond the Bahn-mi, get the green honeycomb cake (western name I think) since it’s the BOMB. Not overly sweet and an amazing texture. Can’t go wrong with this place, and make sure to tell Ki that she’s the best since she grinds through crowds of hungry patrons like no tomorrow. She’s the best ❤️
First time ever having a bond me, Vietnamese sandwich. I went with a crowd, favorite sandwich, barbecue pork, and got it without cilantro, not spicy. The sandwich was VERY. Good! A guy eating at the counter, suggested I get the Vietnamese coffee, which I promptly ordered, and was glad I did. I got the Vietnamese coffee, sweet, and it was excellent! Next time I'll ask for double veggies, but otherwise it was perfect. Will definitely try their other offerings too.

My Vietnamese friend and I tried the special combination of both L&G and Saigon Sandwich side by side. We both agreed that L&G is better, not South Bay banh mi good, but close. Sandwich was pretty typical of banh mi in terms of ingredients used and size. $7 cash. They accept credit cards but with I think $0.50 fee for orders under $10. There was only 1 person working so it took about 10 mins with only 2 people in front of me on a Sunday at 4 pm. It's a grab and go place, but has a couple bar top stool seats. Parking sucks here. May have to park blocks away. Decent overall
Super delicious Banh mi! I think the baguette was the best I’be ever had. Tofu was a little d dry but overall fantastic!
L&G is the epitome of what a hole in the wall restaurant is. There are three seats on the window counter and three seats right when you walk in. The window counter seats were already taken so I took my sandwiches to go. They make good sandwiches here. Today I had the combo $5.50 and a meatball $5 sandwich. Surprise! There are no whole meatballs in the meatball sandwich but rather spread across the length of the sandwich. This is my favorite. Their combo is not bad either. Service was excellent. It took about 10 minutes for them to make my sandwiches.

Tenderloin has an abundance of Vietnamese restaurants in-fact there are as many as 4 specialized Banh-Mi (sandwiches) restaurants. Saigon Sandwich and L&G Vietnamese Sandwich are two that are literally across from each other. After trying out Saigon Sandwich, I decided to give L&G Vietnamese Sandwich a try. This is another small primarily to-go restaurant, but I think it has a couple of seats inside. At the peak lunch hour on Saturday it looked like they had just opened and there were a couple of people standing inside waiting for something. I did the same. After about 10 minutes of so they started taking orders. I think they were waiting for the bread or protein, can't be sure. Anyway the menu again is pretty simple a couple of different types of sandwiches including BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, meatball combination etc. Most of the sandwiches are around the $4 mark with tax. I got the BBQ Chicken sandwich and soon was on my way. The sandwich was neatly packed but it was haphazardly put together. The French roll was not crunchy and the chicken had a weird smell. Overall this was an average sandwich. I decided to give L&G another try but this time found that they had been closed due to a health code violation. That's when I decided no more tries, I'm sticking with Saigon sandwich which is just across the road.
Hey, your sandwiches are great, but let’s not push the authenticity beyond the level where it is not authentic. Cashier was especially concerning, but entire business in general didn’t look clean. Especially the guy who collects the orders looks like some one who does not know that he actually makes front desk…. Eating while you handling orders is especially disgusting
My meatball bánh mì had very little actual meat and was mostly gravy-like sauce. There was no paté. It was $6, so it’s inexpensive, but I’ve seen older photos showing real Vietnamese meatballs, which wasn’t what I received. A bit disappointed since I had heard good things about this place. Hopping to different place next time.

So I’ve been here on multiple occasions and they tend to always switch their prices when it’s time to pay!!! BEWARE: if you pay with card you’ll be charged an additional $1.50 rather then 0.50. When I brought this to their attention they stated it was taxes lmfao! You’re better off going to the place across the street where they’re more honest and the food quality is better. I will no longer be a customer here. I hate dishonest GREEDY owners. Also, make sure you keep an eye when they make your food, the lady tends to handle money (cash) and doesn’t wash her hands afterwards!!!! She then will make your sandwich with her bare hands no gloves. Just nasty!!!!
