Lone Star Saloon is a popular gay bar known for its friendly atmosphere, attentive staff (Charlie, Colin, and Shane mentioned), and chill vibe. The back patio is a highlight. It's cash-only, and some find the prices high. It's considered a safe and welcoming space.
Ideal für
Tip: Bring cash, as it's a cash-only bar. The patio is great when it's not too crowded, so consider going earlier to enjoy the sunlight.

I recently organized a bachelor party at Lone Star Saloon, and it was an absolutely stellar experience! From the moment we reached out, Charlie, the bar's manager, was incredibly responsive and helpful in organizing the event. His accommodating nature made planning a breeze, and he was open to all our plans and ideas. Charlie went above and beyond, assisting us with decorations and even helping to hire a dancer for the party. His attention to detail and dedication to making our event special were evident in every aspect. The venue itself was fantastic, with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Everyone who attended had an amazing time, and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. If you're looking to host any kind of event, I highly recommend Lone Star Saloon. Their exceptional service and dedication to ensuring a memorable experience are unparalleled. THANK YOU CHARLIE & the entire Lone Star Saloon team! 💗
I could not say enough good things about this bar! We live a few blocks away and it’s the perfect spot for happy hour, or drinks with friends later in the evening. The owner is so sweet and remembers us. The other bartenders remember us too and are so friendly. It’s dog-friendly and has a great selection of beers on tap and liquor. We go at least once a week. Thank you, Lone Star for being so welcoming!
A nice fun bar for bears and their fans. The best part of this bar is their patio, which has a good fun vibe when it’s not too crowded. The drinks are pretty strong so bring your friends and enjoy.
Great bar! They (bar) hosted the full queer wrestling event. What a show - hillarious. 😂 Bartender was great as was the bar and the entertainment - priceless.
This bear bar is so chill. The owners are down to earth. The customers are just awesome.

Bear bar. Always fun when visiting SF, gotta at least pop in during every visit.
Redwood event always a nice surprise to hear house music. Great bar tender service. Cash only.
First time here! 5 stars from me, safe space and love the vibe! For someone who has a lot of anxiety in public spaces (especially bars) I found this space to be very inviting, welcoming & friendly amongst patrons and bartenders. I love the outdoor area in back and the wide open space in the front indoor area with high ceilings, making it feel not nearly as claustrophobic as some other venues. What I also love about this bar is that it's very body-image positive & everyone is encouraged to be themselves. I find a lot of gay bars in SF are quite the opposite. But this place is unique and stands out. If you're walking here alone or foreign to the area, just be cautious of your surroundings. A lot of sketchy characters hang nearby & look for easy targets. But by all means go to this Bar. It's a safe space for both men & women. Looking forward to my next visit and surprised I haven't visited this bar sooner!
Can’t believe it took us this long to stop by here. This is already one of my favorite gay bars in SF! The crowd is on the older side and overall such a chill vibe across the bar. There’s pool, a little disco vibe, a little grunge, and a beautiful back patio!
Historic bar that I personally believe should be a heritage site. Originated as a body positivity bar, and slowly evolved into a bear/Daddy bar. Great spots to end a bar hop through south of Market leather district. Do not be afraid to go out to the back. They've got heaters.
The Lone Star Saloon is a historic, cash-only gay bear bar in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, opened in 1989 and now known for its diverse crowd, rotating events, and welcoming vibe. With chill yet energetic music, pool tables, and a relaxing back patio, it’s a place where community and connection thrive any night of the week. Owners Bruce and Charlie are central to that warmth—especially Charlie, whose advocacy helped reshape an upcoming bear documentary to be more inclusive—making The Lone Star Saloon less like a venue and more like a place to call home.
Killer spot for good vibes. The staff care. And the patio is one of a kind. No other bar in SOMA has what The Saloon has. Beer is food, right? GREAT FOOD.
Terrible experience. I went here expecting absolutely nothing but a drink with friends. Instead, I found myself falling for the owner (Bruce) who ABSOLUTELY crushed my minimal expectations with his charming charisma & perfect smile. I was trying desperately to focus on enjoying a Long Island Iced Tea and letting go. Instead I’m left walking away with emotions for the sweetest, most beautiful man I’ve ever laid eyes on only to get home and go to bed with him not there. 1/5 stars… 😜
Lovely food and worker definitely recommend. W Bonnie
I hadn't been in this bar in 30 years what was I thinking this place is awesome Not only is it clean and orderly The bartender was beyond reproach The atmosphere was electric the DJ was playing fire and the patrons were awesome can't wait to go back
Charlie, Colin and Shane provide such a great and inviting atmosphere. It's always great to get a drink and unwind. I go there with my knitting group. We always enjoy the service.
Staff very friendly. Great place to hang out when you are a big furry guy like me me. Always great to be back here each time I'm in town. Look forward to come next June for Pride.
This bar is super chill and low-key, with a crowd mostly over 30. The music is always on point, and the vibe is just cool. They even have candy and cookies, which I find kind of quirky but fun. It’s cash only, but the prices are solid and the beer is always cold.

This is one of those places where the staff is very helpful and attentive. Where do you feel yours, even if you came alone. Very cozy. There are promotions all the time, and you can get free cocktails and a private room for an hour. To do this, register on 909gay,com to create a profile and just show it to the administrator. Great guys!
Lone Star Saloon is absolutely fantastic! The service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed. I love coming here right when it opens because the slow crowd allows you to fully appreciate the stunning backyard area. The patio is drenched in sunlight, making it the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the laid-back vibes.

my friend and i were immediately turned away because we wear medical masks in public. this guy claimed to be the owner of the place.
I don't recommend this bar, we paid $34 for two beers and two shots, it doesn't accept card payments or small change, you have to withdraw with a $10 fee. Then the atmosphere is zero. then we arrived at 11:30 p.m. knowing that it was written that it closed at two in the morning but it closes at midnight.
