Had the pleasure of being brought here to experience the last night of service before they close down and I enjoyed it. The staff is like family as I watched dozens of customers hug and kiss hello. The owner was present and greeted guests as they entered. The mood was bittersweet as this establishment has been here for many years and it shows as people wait in line to dine and say their goodbyes. Food, cocktails, and the vibe are amazing.

Very nice place, the service is great and the food was amazing. The cocktails are nicely crafted. My chicken was a little dry on my salad, but other then that it was supreme. I would definitely go back and try dinner.

Dinner with a friend at the bar here. The atmosphere sets the right balance of refinement without being pretentious. The bartender wasn’t very knowledgeable about the wine list and made a mistake on the order, but they fixed it right away with sincere apology and making it up to us. That’s the sign of good service. I nightly recommend the rack of lamb. Tender, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The tuna rilette was also delicious with smoky notes. I’d go back again!

Visited Piperade for the first time with my team. Ordered the rib eye steak which was cooked perfectly, and tried the traditional gateau basque, warm chocolate cake and caramel custard for desserts. Quite the experience in Basque cuisine.

Amazing food, excellent service and perfect for special events. We celebrated our wedding here and it was delightful. Highly recommend the jamón and fig toast, grilled octopus and calamari and stuffed peppers.

AMAZING!! Every single thing we ate was delicious. Our waitress Miriam was AMAZING, she went above and beyond and was super sweet. Next time I’m in San Fran I’ll be coming back.

Always love it here! Always had great food and great service. They serve food at the bar for casual bites and a drink. Cute outdoor seating sofa at entrance that can be reserved. Great desserts and they serve espresso drinks. Wine selection and house cocktails are amazing!

After researching several SF restaurants that could provide private dining for 20-30 people I chose Piperade and I am very glad I did. Between Stephanie (event planner) and chef Gerald they could not have been more accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they clearly have lots of experience in organizing private dinners. They were also more flexible in menu options compared to the restrictions I found at many other locations. The room (Lauburu), food, wine, service and overall experience was great. A number of friends were excited to hear we chose Piperade for our event and everyone had a great time. Highly recommended!!

San Francisco gastronomic icon for Basque and international cuisine never ceases to fail with their delectable traditional and new world offerings. Wine list offers finely curated local, old world and Basque options by the glass and bottle. Bar still serving up great cocktails. Full menu offering. We missed the beignets. Thanks Gerald and staff. We hope for many more meals on the newly expanded terrace.

Fantastic spot on the edges of FiDi. Hosted a work event and the staff was amazing. Took white glove care of us.

This is an excellent if pricey restaurant with refined but not pretentious Basque and French food. A cozy setting in an otherwise characterless neighborhood, most of the dishes are well presented and executed, even if not the most memorable or unique. A great pick for any special occasion with fairly generous and shareable portions. Entrees are generally a better value than pintxos (Basque tapas). Make sure to enjoy a dessert too.

Staff was amazing and the attention to detail throughout our meal was greatly appreciated. They accommodated some additional guests 20 mins before our reservation and even with a packed house, food and service was delicious. Highly recommend being adventurous as everything we ordered was very flavor packed and perfectly prepared. Ambiance is also very special, romantic as well as for business lunch or dinner, highly recommend.

Omg do I love this place! It’s pricey so reserve for a special night out. Here’s what I love: Delicious and creative dishes and wonderful service coincide to make a perfect night out. We split a bottle of wine, several apps and an entree and got to taste a lot of the dishes. All were impressive.

Fabulous basque food in a comfortable and friendly restaurant with good outdoor areas with excellent heat lamps to keep you warm. The wine list has excellent selections at very reasonable prices to complement the marvelous food and service is the perfect balance between attentive and overbearing.

Amazing food and a great menu with fresh ingredients. A great spot for a date. There is a private room with a patio in the back for small parties or work team meetings. They have a wine cellar with a great selection of wines that pair perfectly with the food.

Cocktails were great. We had a Grey goose cosmos and a Maker's Mark Manhattan. Calamari and Crab appetizers were delicious. We both had the duck confett - one of the best we had. Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Definitely will be going back.

Excellent service and food! Gin and tonic was delightful. The risotto-type dish with corn , tomatoes and a Basque pepper was delicious and just right for a summer evening entree. We all had a great evening!

Excellent rich Basque country comfort food. You cannot eat here without feeling comfortable and happy. The Chef and staff treat guests with a level of hospitality and friendliness that is generally lacking in modern restaurants. The frites are the best in town, the wine list is full of great values-go, be happy!

A thoroughly enjoyable dinning experience. A nice selection of traditional and innovative Spanish cuisine. A quite and intimate surrounding. Professional and friendly service. Highly recommend it.

Excellent Restaurant. Great for large team dinners. Dinner was served family style for us because we had a group of 40. I would recommend the chicken and the lamb, both were incredible.

Love this restaurant. Great service and food. Seafood dishes are very well done and a favorite. And they have daily specials that are always excellent. This is a hidden gem!

We’ve been coming here for years and often bring out of town visitors. Chef Hirigoyen consistently prepares fabulous food. The seafood stew and their Basque version of risotto are two of my favorites. The interior has a great vibe. Walk up the Filbert steps afterwards for great views.

Had a couple appetizers for lunch and both were perfection! The mushroom tarts and salad of greens with a perfect vinaigrette. They also have a price fixe lunch menu for 26.00. I would definitely recommend!

Love this place , we sat outside, so we could celebrate a birthday party , so with 8 people we’re gonna be a little loud . We had a special table outside away from the other patrons and had a blast . Loved the mushroom tart , it went well with the butter lettuce salad . And the calamari was delightful. The goat cheese stuffed peppers were rich in flavor . Oh and the garlic soup was incredible. The food was delicious. Our server was amazing , she was very knowledgeable about the food and wine , so friendly and very attentive. This place was great .

Came here for a birthday dinner and it didn't disappoint. The food, starters, and cocktails were all delicious and the service was very fast and friendly. Some of our favorite dishes were the pork cheeks (very rich), gratin potatoes, cheese + ham terrine, and the seafood stew. The shoestring fries were tasty, but slightly disappointing as they aren't served with any type of sauce. The duck leg confit was alright, but it just needed salt and pepper. Overall, it was a great experience and we'll be back.

Wow, this place is truly a hidden gem. Excellent food, service, and pricing! The dining room is cozy without being pretentious. The service is knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The quality of the food is very good. Their wine list is extensive, with a wide range of pricing. A great place for a date or business meeting.

Amazing food. Fantastic service. We went here for my birthday dinner and had amazing food. The waiter was engaging, attentive and actually helped us with what to order. We got s number of tapas and small plates to share. Plus the desserts were fantastic.

Was at a friend's birthday dinner last night held in the private dining room. Lovely setting, excellent food and service. Starters and sweets are served family style, which is great because everyone gets to enjoy multiple dishes. Perfectly cooked lamb. Highly recommend.

Had not been there since my partner died. Was a favorite of ours. Went there with my new Beau. Excellent food, very friendly wait staff. The owner/chef was walking around seeing how everything is.. the orange flower beignets were not on the menu sadly. Hopefully he will bring them back.

Nice classy upscale place. We actually ended up here because my bro was in town and coming here for a wedding. Plenty of reservations were available relatively last minute. The service and food is pretty good here, but quite pricey for the quantity. The desserts were my favorite. The basque cheesecake is pretty good.

Very grown-up ambience with wooden interior decor. The waiter recommended a great red wine called Tepranilln, and the food in general was delicious. I highly recommend the mushroom tartlet and the stuffed piquillo pepper with goat cheese for appetizer, and for dessert both the caramel custard and the organic blossom beneigets were amazing.

Been here a few times for takeout and the food is good, ready when I arrive, and to wait time to get it.

Had the beet salad to start and really enjoyed the pickled beets; however, the dish needed something like feta cheese to make it pop. My main course was the lamb chops that were overcooked from what I ordered. The chops were tasty. Others enjoyed the garlic soup and duck. Exceptional wait staff made for a very nice evening.

We ordered the Saturday prix fixe (included soup or salad, veal stew, and dessert, $38.00) that was tender and filled with country vegetables. We asked the waiter to choose our dessert (we had our pick from the extensive list) and he came up with winners. We brought two bottles of wine with no corkage charge. Bravo for the waitstaff! All in all the bistro food, service, and excellent prices made this a restaurant we will come back too!

The starters were good but not great IMO. All the mains, however, were excellent. Both the pork cheecks and the lamb were outstanding. Wine selection is good and we had a nice burgundy pinot noir. It s on the expensive side (160$ pp)

Food and service were good, but the atmosphere was fairly stuffy, and the portions were laughably small. After bread, a salad, and an entree, I was still hungry. So I went over to the nearby market after dinner to buy myself a protein bar.

Had a nice dinner here a few weeks ago. The stuffed piquillo peppers appetizer was phenomenal, and the rack of lamb was really tender and meaty. And yes, bones were gnawed upon. The atmosphere was hip yet welcoming. The only modest annoyance was that our waitress forgot to bring us olive oil with our bread, which we had to steal off the table next to us.

Service was amazing! We ordered four different appetizers to share. All of them were awesome, especially the grilled calamari was cooked to perfection and was soft. The main dish however was a little too sour and it felt that the sea bass didn't go very well with the spinach. The sea bass was cooked to perfection though. Was not very impressed with the dessert choices.

Fantastic food to top off a fantastic experience! The wait staff are professional, ensuring that you're always taken care of. The food is delicious, well worth ordering and sharing bites with friends! The interior is very nice, although the seating can be a bit tight, and the volume can be on the loud side. Be sure to reserve your table, this place is hopping with the after work crowd and those looking for a top notch meal!

Went with a large group and we were able to try several appetizers, mains, and desserts. Our service was wonderful, and the server's recommendations were all outstanding. Bit out of the way if you're not already in this neighborhood for dinner, but worth a visit.

Overview: beautiful presentation, friendly staff, and great environment to have dinner with friends. The food itself isn't satisfactory (thus the 3 stars) - so for the price, this isn't good value. We ordered plenty of different appetizers: the rillettes (they were good), the shrimps (flavorless), bacon dates (highly recommend these), and pepper with cheese (lack depth, flavor and texture). For the mains, we had the duck confit (overly fat and dry, lentils were quite good though), the lamb (medium rare, the texture was perfect but seasoning was missing, the merguez was delicious), sea bass (beautiful texture and very moist). Desserts were the chocolate cake, apple tart, and the "typical Basque cake" - each of which was underwhelming in term of flavor and texture, but were beautifully plated.

3 out of 5 stars simply because this restaurant and food quality are not matching prices in the menu. Looks old inside, interior is boring, food is tasty but nothing special. You won't miss much if decide to go elsewhere.

I liked it but nothing blew me away. I came here for dinner on a week night with a couple of girlfriends. We had a reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived. The restaurant itself is a very nice, large space but it's located in a very non-descript area of the city. I got two appetizers as my meal- the grilled Calamari and seasonal tomato tartlet. Both were good- but didn't make me want to come back. They did have an extensive wine list though which was great. A good spot if you want a quiet dinner with friends- but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

I felt like this restaurant took advantage of me. It gave me everything that I wanted: lovely cocktail menu, beautiful setting, lots of food options that sounded amazing, and close to embarcadero (met up a friend coming on the ferry). Upon closer inspection, the location was not ideal; it was completely dead around the area. On to the food. The drink I received was special ordered according to my specific tastes and it was good. The shrimp I ordered was cold, which I believe was intentional, but that wasn't mentioned on the menu. The stuffed pepper was very heavy and the calamari was too chewy. The only food item I enjoyed was the mushroom tart, which was so small I could barely savor it. I wouldn't recommend this place and I would not come back because the value wasn't there for me. Also, it was a cold evening and I didn't even know they had heat lamps above us until a new party came to sit and the hostess offered to turn it on for them, but not for us? Our waiter was great and very friendly and attentive, but it wasn't enough to make me like this place.
