Ghezal was so nice and told us to try our drinks and make sure we like it. I’ve been to a lot of coffee shops and that’s never happened. The coffee is great too.
I am not sure where my initial review of Philz on Golden Gate is located but it's worth a second review. The location on Golden Gate is near my favorite sandwich spot (Saigon Sandwich). This location is always busy I think because of the Federal building. This location is fast, busy, and energetic. The staff members are all very friendly and customer service oriented. I love coffee shops at this capacity and vibrancy.
Used to love drinking Philz Iced Mint Mojito when I lived in San Francisco. Visiting the city close to a decade later, it’s still pretty amazing. Really enjoyed this delightful drink. Unfortunately, this location is located fairly close to some dangerous blocks within the city.
I came into this café not expecting much. But I ordered the rose coffee and wow. The floral taste was very strong but it was really GOOD that I thought maybe I should have ordered a medium and not a small. I’m looking forward to trying all the flavors there! The store is decorated beautifully and it’s nice and cozy. The store is very spacious and also includes working outlets and wifi! There are plenty of seats for the customers and is nicely air conditioned. The workers were all so very kind :) The only bad thing I would point out is that the bathroom is extremely dirty but other than that, this will be my go-to coffee spot! <3 (BETTER THAN PEET’S IMO)
It's a very cool coffee shop with some hipster vibes. :) It was highly recommended by many friends, so I decided to give it a try. I don't regret it! :) We had two delicious cold coffees: Mint Mojito and Ice Coffee Rosé. Very tasty and good combination! Also, we ate a croissant with almonds and a blueberry muffin. They offer to heat the food if you want. Both pastries were very good! The service is quick and the line goes fast, so try to decide what you want to order when your time comes. The staff doesn't offer much explanation if you don't know the details. #tip: I noticed it's possible to order via app being at the store and just pick up it at the counter when it's ready. I didn't try yet, but saw many people ordering this way. The store is very spacious with tables, chairs, small sofas, and some armchairs to get comfortable. I liked the experience and would come back easily. The entrance is compatible with wheelchair users and they offer all-gender bathroom.
I really appreciated the staff and vibe of this Philz located near the Civic Center. The cafe was pretty full and there was always a line; the staff here did a really good job welcoming in customers and giving each customer awesome service at the register and at the hand-off. I will definitely be back! I ordered a dancing water iced coffee and it did not disappoint!
Fantastic coffee selection. The only option is pour-over. No espresso-based drinks, but if you are looking for top-quality coffee, this is the place. About a dozen different beans to choose from and every coffee is made to order from scratch. Highly recommend!
This is my first time at Philz Coffee. I ordered an Iced Mocha, a Mint Mojito Iced Coffee and a Banana Bread. Great place, great coffee, great service, nice baristas and lots of seating.
I would like to bring this coffee shop to my hometown. I’m in love with Mint Mojito. If you’re going there with your own cup you can get a discount. The atmosphere for this place is amazing, the staff is kind and you can just stay there enjoy a different & funny coffee!
Best coffee I've ever had. Give yourself a minute to wait, and the wait is worth it! I'm rarely in the City, but I always hit Philz as much as possible while I'm here, and take some beans home to hopefully replicate the experience.
Everything about this restaurant is amazing. The food is very good, the staff are nice, the prices are reasonable, the service is quick, and there's lots of seating. I highly recomend the super tacos.
I heared about these "gigantic" burritos but I truly was not prepared for the size and true amazing flavor. For the price it was well worth it, I just go and enjoy. I chose the fish burrito, well worth it
SF native here. This is the best burrito in town. I get the pollo asado, with avocado (not guac), and their phenomenal salsa verde (and pico). Their chicken is touched by heaven. Portions are generous and evenly balanced. Tortilla grilled perfectly.
Why did it take me so long to visit this place? Burrito dorado is browned on both sides, even the regular burrito is huge! Super fresh and flavorful burrito, great distribution of ingredients. Both the green AND the red salsas are chunky and delicious. Love the quesadilla too, whether with chicken or beef.
Stumbled across El Castillito while in search of the Painted Ladies. The smells and the hustle and bustle from the kitchen is delightful. It is extremely small with limited seating so be prepared to take out or dine during off hours. We ordered the tacos, a burrito and the enchilada platter. I didn’t quite know what to do but the cooks were very pleasant and helpful. Warning the plates were hot! You order directly from the cooks through a window and then pickup and pay. Appreciated the variety of salsas and sauces to help myself to. Best Mexican food by far and very reasonably priced!
The coffee was fantastic, but the cinnamon roll and the burrito were just ok! Great service and atmosphere. I even bought a bag of coffee to go!
Tastes good, but it takes a long time to get your order. Plenty of seating. No pets allowed inside, but there are a few tables outside. They accept mobile order. Bathroom has a 5 minute limit.
Good service and very decent coffee. I specifically like the sitting areas, feels comfortable.
I love, love, love mint Mojito iced coffee; so refreshingly wonderful! And I'm having as many as I can as I don't get Philz where I'm from. Spacious venue with reasonable amount of seating area. Staff are pretty friendly and helpful. The surrounding neighbourhood feels a bit rough though.
Surprised by how good the Al Pastor tacos were. Came here as part of a taco crawl and this was our favorite place of the night. Veggie tacos could use some love, they seems to be just a ton of rice and beans and other stuff in a huge sloppy pile.
I love this place. Great al pastor, and generally a great burrito spot for being outside the mission. They accept credit cards now, which is also great! Tacos El Tucan is now giving them a run for their money, though. A couple of things they could improve to get 5 stars from me: (1) the chips are terrible. Considering that they aren't even free with a super burrito, they are really bad, not fresh chips, which is a bummer. (2) The chicken could really be trimmed better. Ordering pollo asada always means dealing with some cartilage and tendon. Not the end of the world, but it would be much better without.
Heavenly al pastor, CANTANKEROUS cooks! If you want to sample the most succulent morsels of pork in the City, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is: this al pastor is so rich and flavorful, it will blow out your taste buds for months on end. The bad news is: it's guarded at all times by some sort of mythological brute--an orc or a troll or an ogre (something like that). You'll descend a small staircase into a dimly lit dungeon and approach the creature behind the plexiglass. Speak firmly to him, but with an air of submission. Pro-tip: if you do not look directly at the meat he places on the grill, you're likely to be afforded a larger portion. Answer his questions as succinctly as possible and try not to ask any questions of your own, or risk inciting his wrath. As daunting as this quest might seem, the reward that awaits you at the end is well worth the perilous journey. Godspeed!
Had to try it out. I’m not sure it’s because I had high expectations for everything because it was for the first time in 4 years visiting the States or it was just a mediocre coffee house… Mint mojito coffee (hot) - Weak tasting coffee. No aroma. I was expecting something really refreshing or a bit festive as it says “mint mojito” coffee. Not my liking. I don’t know what all the fuss is about… Such a shame. Cashier was really friendly and sweet, the vibe at the coffee house was quite nice though. Note: takes a while to get your coffee
Ordered a hot Mocha Tesoro, tasted more like hot cocoa watered way down with a lot of sugar (ordered medium sweet) it was way too sweet, couldn’t even finish the drink. I can’t even imagine what sweet would be like. Virtually no taste or aroma or richness of any coffee. Perhaps a straight cup of coffee would have been better, fancy recipe didn’t taste fancy at all. And it was pretty pricey for two cups of coffee with tip, like that of a meal. Sorry Won’t be coming back.
Burrito was mid and lacking flavor, but the staff / service was good. Atmosphere is bare bones. I would not likely come back.
1st time coming here, the food was OK, which is disappointing because of how nice the presentation was. I think it was just lacking in flavor honestly, I got the chicken quesadillas which tasted kinda dry and plain, and I tried my friends flautas which although was a great portion size, were also kinda dry and very oily. HOWEVER, the Horchata was phenomenal, some of the best ive ever had, definitely reccomend! This place has a great atmosphere and the waiters were very nice. I might come back and give them a second chance and grab a margarita I've heard a lot about. Will update my review in the future if my feelings change!
The coffee specialty drinks I’ve had were usually good at other locations. On Saturday Dec 6, 2025 I walked in and payed nearly 8 bucks for the oatmeal cookie drink and I requested for it to be sweet and creamy. The drink was not sweet, it lacked flavor and it wasn’t creamy it was too watery. The drink tasted like water with cinnamon. I wasted my cash
Wonderful coffee. Friendly staff. Terribly managed. Would have left but was with an out of town visitor that really wanted Philz. 20 minutes wait just to give our order. Then another ten minutes for the coffee. THIRTY MINUTES for a cup of coffee. Yes, bad days happen, staffing problems are real. Hire more people and DON'T TAKE ONLINE ORDERS if you can't take care of in store customers. It wasn't even that busy.
I had a quesadilla with no meat . I skipped the rice and the beans and jalapeño They use sliced cheese . I never saw it anywhere else in the world . The quesadilla and the cheese and everything else were cold . It need more than 1 minute to be ready . But el Compadre does not know maybe … I can make a better quesadilla at my place . Nobody beat El Farolito …
Went to get coffee a week ago stood in long line then waited 20 mins as customers after me received their coffee I waited patiently and then spoke up my ticket was never printed was late to work and the manager said we will still give you a coffee and a refund they gave me a refund then 2 hours later recharged me so ironic my ticket was the only one out of 30 people with suits received their coffees
I was here 6 months ago and I still think of this place in anger. Worst coffee I've had in my life. Literally couldn't drink it for the first 10 minutes it was so hot and then when we could finally dump it into our bodies it was more burnt than my house that burned down 4 years ago. We drank two sips and just had to throw it out to not consuming that poison. Also the barista made fun of my name.
Had a Quesadilla suiza. Meat had no flavor. The cheese taste like rubber. Tortilla was cold. I’ve could’ve made a better one at home. Aguas Fresas are way water down and overpriced. Place stinks. Avoid!
How this place has good reviews is beyond me. The food is NOT good - my stomach started hurting 10 minutes after eating it. Besides the older woman working the register, the employees were straight up creepy as well. Anyone giving this place above 2 stars is out of their mind.
Easily the worst food I’ve had in sf. Would rather go to Taco Bell any day. The guacamole is runny and undersalted. Completely flavorless. The camerones rancheros sauce was so sweet it tasted like Chinese sweet and sour sauce. The salsas aren’t even half decent. The prices on the online menu are outdated and lower than actuality and they won’t honor it. They spilled my food everywhere and instead of giving me a new dish they just wiped the plate down a little and gave it to me. I genuinely don’t have anything positive to say about this place other than that the chips are pretty goody and portions are huge.
