Thai Cottage is a cozy, flavorful Thai spot loved for its authentic dishes and welcoming staff. Many rave about the green curry, pumpkin curry, and pad Thai. Service is often personalized and attentive, though some experienced slow service.

Small local spot in the sunset serving flavorful Thai food that’s great for dining in or take out. Would recommend this place for a casual date night, lunch with friends, or a dinner in. Loved: chicken satay (cucumber salad was a nice touch and so crunchy and delicious) and the fried rice with chicken and shrimp. Sometimes Thai food at places can be heavy, greasy, or too sweet or saucy. Theirs was delicious, well balanced, flavorful, and on the lighter side sauce-wise, which I appreciate being someone who loves flavor but doesn’t want her food swimming in sauce.
I’ve lived in this neighborhood for two years and go to Thai Cottage at least once a week. I’m finally getting around to writing a review because this is, hands down, the most underrated restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food is consistently fantastic—I don’t have just one go-to dish because everything I try is a hit. It’s a family-owned spot, and the owner, Sabrina, has become a friend over time. She cares so deeply about the food and the craft. Just last night she explained to me how they make their fish cakes, carefully pounding the fish by hand—there’s so much love and skill behind every dish. Thai Cottage is cozy, understated, and truly a neighborhood gem, but the food is good enough that you’d be thrilled to find it at a high-end restaurant downtown (and pay double). Instead, we’re lucky to enjoy that same quality right here in the outer sunset, no reservations needed.
Great find! Green curry with chicken was amazing. But real winner was the deep fried codfish! Host was very friendly and got us a table quickly!!
We got the Pad Thai Shrimp and Pineapple Curry Duck and they were both amazing! The Pad Thai was one of the best I have eaten in San Francisco. The Pineapple Curry Duck was very creamy and a bit spicier than expected, so be sure to ask for a milder version if you're sensitive to heat. The service was excellent as well.
The verdict: Would I go back? - Absolutely Would I order the same thing? - For sure How's the price? - Definitely fair for what you get, I'd honestly pay more if I had to Details: This tiny restaurant seriously offers some big flavor. We ordered both the Panang Curry and the Spicy Eggplant and Tofu and we couldn't be happier with what we got. The Panang Curry, which I ordered, was deliciously spicy. Each bite nipped your tongue with heat, but the flavors definitely made the pain worth it. As for the Spicy Eggplant and Tofu which my girlfriend ordered, it was cooked to perfection. The eggplant wasn't too mushy or hard and the tofu was nice a slightly crisp on the outside and soft inside. Once again, this plate was full of flavor. I'll definitely be ordering this one myself next time. There was no wait when we arrived, however we filled the last table. The servers were quick to notice us, seat us and take our order. It was clear by the interactions between the employees and the guests that this place had a lot of frequent customers and they were very friendly with them, offering hugs and asking how things have been. The food took a bit longer than you'd expect at a restaurant, but this didn't go unnoticed by the waitress and she assured us that it was nearly finished and would be out soon. Yeah, it took a while, but the fact that the waitress didn't just ignore us the whole time nor the problem made up for it. Plus, it was very clear when it did arrive that it was fresh and I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. It's also easily within walking distance of the western part of Golden Gate Park as well as the beach. If you're in the area or just in need for some tasty Thai food that is fairly priced, then definitely hit this place up!
I visit SF yearly, and this is my go to place for Thai every time I come. Fast and fresh, reasonably priced, and within walking distance of the ocean. Love this place!
I had fried Tufo and the Spicy Basil Chicken. They were amazing! Excellent service.
Super delicious Thai food! Great scenery and the tea was delicious. Wish I had taken a pic before we dug into it! Highly recommend and the service feels super personalized.
Excellent flavors, and lovely ambiance. Great service :) Definitely hope to return!

The food is incredible and the service is top notch. Cannot recommend this place enough.
We love this place. I met my boyfriend here 9 months ago and we decided to go back... I was shocked that the waiter not only remembered us, but where we sat and what we ate! I appreciate the attentiveness and his friendly nature. We believe this place has the best pumpkin curry in SF. We have tried many Thai places over the past 9 months, and we also say at the end of every meal, we should have gone to Thai Cottage! The pumpkin curry always has fresh vegetables and they aren't over cooked or mushy. I love that you can taste all the subtle flavors of the vegetables and that it has some sweet heat to the sauce. We also had the tofu pad Thai, and the tofu was perfectly prepared. I love they give you the option to make it spicy by mixing in the chilies (we always mix them in). My only warning is this place will make it very hard for you to eat Thai food anywhere else in SF. Bonus- it's right off the N Line and the neighborhood has great parking. We love that it's so close to the beach.. perfect way to end a sunset by the ocean. Also, in addition to the wonder ambiance, the price is right!!! We love a deal on SF!
Everything I’ve had here is so delicious! The flavors are complex and really take the palate on a journey. Highly recommend the Tom Yum soup and the red curry. Papaya Salad is also very tasty and refreshing. After being very pleased with takeout here, I brought a friend to eat a meal in the restaurant. We barely talked once the food arrived because we wanted to focus on the experience that was happening to our taste buds. Do yourself a FLAVOR and eat at Thai Cottage! 💜
Probably my favorite Thai place in SF. Don’t sleep on this!
A cozy Thai place with absolutely delicious food and fantastic service. Since the food is halal, we could try some dishes we normally don't get, and man were they good. If you're seeing this review, take it as a sign to try this place! Side note: How were the chicken wings so good?
The most flavourful food - on the first bite, it lights up the senses. We got the pumpkin curry with tofu, shrimp pad Thai and Thai iced coffees. They made mine with decadent coconut milk. Such a warm and welcoming person working there. 100%%% recommend.
This is a fantastic spot to grab some authentic Thai food in outer sunset. The food is delicious and the staff here is extremely welcoming and accommodating. Space is on the smaller side, but nonetheless a cozy environment. Outdoor seating is also available and highly recommended on a sunny day day around sunset to fully enjoy the view. Highly recommend this spot

The food absolutely exceeded my expectations. The first bite of the green curry I said "oh wow", and each other dish blew me away. Highly recommend: - green curry - chicken (menus says spicy, I'd say 1.5/5 spice) - pad kee mao - chicken (3/5 spice) - garlic prawns My favourite was the garlic prawns. We kept scooping up the sauce onto our rice. The hostess was super lovely, super fast with helping us out. I recommend this next time you're in the area!!

Came here randomly after seeing it nearby on Google and was so grateful we ended up here! Partner and I split fried calamari and the pumpkin curry! It was plenty for the two of us and the flavors were incredible! Spice level was just right, veggies cooked to perfection, and portions perfect. Although, I would say the best thing there was the air. Air is the name of our server and he was instantly so funny and kind! Best customer service you can find in SF! I honestly wanna go back just see him again!
Thai Cottage is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant very close to Ocean Beach. We ordered the crispy spring rolls which were pretty good. We ordered Thai Basil fried rice, Pad kee mao, Pineapple fried rice, mushroom garlic and Priaw Whan Tofu from the vegetarian menu and Crispy Chicken Fried Rice and Spicy Basil Chicken. We thought the vegetarian food was tastier. I personally liked their Pad Kee Mao the best, it was a little more on the spicier side. The mushroom Garlic was the next best thing, the pineapple fried rice was really good and very different from what I have had in the past. We also got mango sticky rice pudding and mango cheesecake. The stick rice pudding was not that good, but the mango cheesecake was delicious, everyone really enjoyed it and also the presentation was pretty as well. Side note: we were at a big party with a big order and multiples of some things we had to keep a tab of what all came out as 1-2 dishes were missing.

Cute inside, but took us a half hour to get menus and water an another hour to get the food! I also had some stomach issues after, which rarely happens to me.
Updated review- Been here twice now. It’s pretty good, but there are some cons. Price is just okay for the portion you get. Today I ordered pad Thai shrimp and the shrimp was not good at all. Bad shrimp and over cooked. Noodles were good though, and so was the duck. There was just a very small amount of duck.

Pros: variety of food. It’s solid. Pad see ew (pictured) was decent. Good portion sizes. Cons: flavors were a tad bland. And we were forgotten about so we didn’t get our food for ~1 hour.
