If you take a look from the outside you might keep walking. Big mistake. Everyone was super friendly, ran into mostly locals grabbing fresh beers. Excellent selection on tap, and beer/shot combo specials that didn't break the bank. They have pool in the back. It isn't the best pool hall I've ever seen, but well maintained for the average Joe throwing back cold ones. I would definitely go back here to chat up the friendly staff and cap off a night out.

Second time at the bar this trip! Aaron is the funniest most happy bartender I've encountered in a long time. He was super personable and has a laugh to die for. My husband got a kick out of him. He also made sure a homeless man was hydrated with water when he stopped in for a short bit.

My son and daughter in law took us here as they live close and love it here! Played pool. Great friendly staff.

Bar was awesome. In town solo for NFC Championship, bartender and customers were gracious hosts. $5 Coors Drafts, $10 old fashioneds in CA? Cant complain.

The Horseshoe Tavern — Marina District, San Francisco A Gonzo Field Report by a Man Who Should’ve Gone Home Three Drinks Ago There are bars you enter, and there are bars you fall into like a wounded buffalo, bleeding hope and thirsty for redemption. The Horseshoe Tavern sits squarely in the second category — a neon-rimmed watering hole in the Marina where Patagonia warriors and half-feral locals collide in a swirling cocktail of bourbon sweat and delusional self-confidence. The first thing you notice walking in is the smell: a defiant mixture of spilled IPA, ancient bar varnish, and the crushed ambitions of tech bros who thought they were just one more mezcal shot away from enlightenment. This is where misplaced swagger comes to die… and occasionally respawn. The bartenders — God bless these wild-eyed barkeeps — serve everything with that perfect blend of indifference and mercy. They’ve seen it all: the finance guy crying into his Old Fashioned, the midnight philosopher preaching the virtues of microdosed democracy, the woman who calmly announced she was “leaving her husband for a motorcycle club called The Gentlemen of Doom.” And in the corner? Always a birthday. Always a breakup. Always some doomed soul trying to resurrect their youth with Fireball and bravado. The jukebox? A roulette wheel of questionable decisions. One minute it’s Springsteen roaring about the open road, the next it’s Taylor Swift reminding you that, no, you are not the main character in this bar — you’re barely an extra. But here’s the thing: the place works. The Horseshoe Tavern is honest. It’s loud and slightly unhinged and unapologetically itself. In a city that’s turned half its dive bars into artisanal kombucha saunas, this joint is still serving beer in cold glasses and trouble on tap. You don’t go to the Horseshoe to reflect. You go to forget. You go to find the edge of the night and maybe jump off it. If you’re lucky, you stumble out alive with your jacket, your dignity, and at least a dim sense of where you parked. If not? Hell — at least you got a good story. Final verdict: Four out of five hallucinatory seagulls. A Marina madhouse worth every dollar and every bad decision.

Talk about a fantastic tavern. 🍻 I’m in San Francisco for work, and this was hands down my favorite spot of the trip. I was staying in Union Square, and while everything in that area felt a little forced — proper and polished — this place was the real deal. If you’re looking for one of those “everyone knows your name” joints with laid-back energy, cool locals, true neighborhood vibes, and a place that’s actually alive on a Saturday night, Horseshoe is the spot. 🔥 Ask for Brooke at the bar — she’ll absolutely take care of you with a smile. Thanks for the great night, Horseshoe. Love from NYC! 🗽✨

This is my only go to when I visit and I visit a few times a year. Best bar hands down in the Marina and arguably the best bar in SF. And Brooke is the best bartender without a doubt. This is where you spend time or end your night!

A hidden jewel within the city! I went here on vacation and the service and drinks were on point. Brooke made me feel like I've been a regular for years! This is a must.

Lovely tavern in San Francisco. Good beer on tap, the barkeeper let me try some before making a choice. Prices are acceptable for that area. Pool table is also available and - not sure if that's still relevant in SF to say - you can easily pay with credit card.

a true local dive bar where clientele range from the young college grads to retirees, and yet the vibes are good all around. 2 pool tables, and they have a vintage photobooth! 2 strips of 3 pics, $5.50

Yes it's local but most importantly not pretentious. Relax have a cocktail that doesn't cost $16 . Get a burrito next door add one of the craft beers. Great spot to unwind. A thorw-back for sure but so what?

A proper bar where beer is the priority with shots and cocktails secondary. A couple of pool tables, reasonable prices. Just don’t do what I did and order a random draft beer without checking the strength. It could get messy.

Must be vaccinated to sit indoors. They have a few covered tables outdoors with heaters. Friendly bartender. Watched a football game and had some cold beers 🍻

Soapy drinks. Got a Hazy IPA for the Wenchie and a DC for myself (for the very reasonable price of $7 each). We clinked glasses and took a swig and--yow!--a mouthful of Dawn. They're taking the phrase "a glass of suds" a bit too literally. Besides that, the ambiance wasn't terrible. They have plenty of TVs for watching if football is your bag. We were hoping for a table to play a game of gin on but we had to settle for a sidebar. The saving grace was the bartender who looked EXACTLY like Adriana from The Sopranos. She was lightning fast serving us those two pints of undrinkable swill. I would have thanked her on my way out but my tongue was numb.

I was here on a Friday night late and the female bartender was an incredible jerk. I was trying to be friendly and she wanted to pick a fight with me over nothing I don't know what she's doing behind the bar.

Never have I been treated so incredibly rudely by staff anywhere. The attitude was absolutely appalling - to the point that people around us reacted and wondered what the bar staff’s problem was.

The blonde woman working at the bar mistreated us for being foreigners. She insulted us and hit our phone. Avoid this place if you’re a tourist.

The bouncer at this bar thought my ID was fake and I am 30 years old with a California ID?? He could not be reasoned with and was super rude. Just wanted to play pool :(

I never post poor reviews because most of the time I don’t think restaurants or service workers deserve that. But yesterday I witnessed something really awful here that happened to my friend. We came in for a drink during the Super Bowl, and when I turned around to head back to my friend waiting for me as I got a beer, this bouncer came screaming at her yelling “why did you take that man’s seat when you knew he was sitting there! Why did you take that man’s seat?!” My friend saw a man get up and thought he was leaving, so she took the stool for me to sit, not knowing the other man would return. It was just a small misunderstanding but it was so uncomfortable and humiliating to see this large man screaming at my friend who’s a girl. The guy she accidentally took the stool from was cool, he smiled and said “don’t worry about it.” A few minutes later, another pair of girls walked in and asked if the food on the table was for everyone. The same bouncer guy said “yeah, I work here, feel free to have any of the food.” It was weird to see him so angry at us then watch as he became super friendly and nice to another group of girls. I finished my beer and we left. Our experience seems to jive with what others have said on these reviews before, that staff has been unprofessional. The other staff members seemed really kind but I couldn’t help wonder why my friend (who is Indian) was treated to poorly yesterday. I truly hope for that man’s sake he’s not angry all the time, it’s so much energy to be mad

Christmas Eve. I’m visiting from rural Stagecoach NV. Seemed like a normal place, I thought it was cool they weren’t enforcing masks as I’m a freedom loving conservative. Grey Bearded doorman wouldn’t let me in, I asked why, he just said I don’t know just can’t come in. I was dressed like a surfer but not like a homeless bum. Regardless I do very well, quite certain I make more $ in 1 day than the doorman does in a month. Unfortunate because seemed like people inside were my kinda folk. Will inform all my friends and posting my experience on Rumble and Parler.

Typical old school, ‘beer and a shot’ joint. Nice feel and all. Went there on a Wednesday evening, after taking in a dinner in the city. My guest and I are dressed better than anyone they’ve seen in that joint. Very reserved and quietly ordered a drink for me and my guest. Took a picture of the bar, and the bar tender guy freaks out. Delivers our drinks and says, ‘Could you delete that please ?’ Didn’t want to get into it with him...but WHAT ?! Paid for my drinks. Should have said, ‘Keep it...we’re out of here.’ This boy needs to be sent back to bar school and learn some social skills. That’s all you can sell at that place. I can get a cheaper drink, with a good atmosphere anywhere...why come back ? I won’t.
