vibes for just hangin out drinking yummy beers with a party of friends in the sun yk and then like maybe one of your friends can sit on ur lap if there’s no room
I have been going to this bar since the early 90s when it was a motorcycle bar. I would park my motorcycle out front with another dozen or so bikes. Despite it not really being a motorcycle bar anymore it hasn't really changed much and I mean that in the best possible way. It has an eclectic crowd and great beer and good food. It's one of the few places that hasn't changed. I love it.
Coolest bar in the city. German style social tables out back, pool table inside, chill fun crowds, they grill great food. And the bar tenders are awesome. Huge local bet menus and killer mixed drinks.
Large selection of beers, food was good and can be ordered on your mobile. Love this place for the beer garden, good atmosphere to chill outside with friends for a few drinks and if you smoke, you can out there. I assume used to be cash only from old past reviews but no longer the case. Will definitely return.
Awesome cash-only beer bar. The beer selection is great and the prices are reasonable compared to most places in SF. When you go, know a few things: 1. The bartenders aren't going to wait for you to decide. When you get to the bar, know what you're going to order 2. You're not going to hear top-40 hits here. They play metal. And it's awesome 3. There's a great outdoor seating area but bring a jacket since it can get kinda chilly at night 4. Always tip the bar tenders. They work hard It's a great spot in SF - enjoy!
I probably should have written this review a decade ago. Zeitgeist is a San Francisco institution that has evolved with the times. The food, drinks, ambiance, and service are all fantastic. It’s a casual, edgy beer hall that is unparalleled on a sunny day but wonderful always. Zeitgeist has been my favorite bar in San Francisco since I turned 21. I had my 24th birthday party here a decade ago, and I recently hosted my wedding welcome party here. Coordinating with Nicole, in particular, for my wedding welcome party was an absolute joy!
I love this place for mostly sentimental reasons, but they also have a great beer selection. The real draw is the outdoor area out back. It's just communal picnic tables but the atmosphere (mostly laughter and weed smoke) make it great. You can also get basic bar food here which is nothing special, but reasonably priced. Just don't forget to dress warm!
Fun dive bar with an outdoor beer garden. If its sunny out expect this place to be full of life and fun. The drinks are cheap and the people are diverse (when i mean diverse I mean its mostly white people but from different backgrounds, I'm Asian but I enjoy coming here.) Good for groups if you can find a table at the right time. They got a pool table and serve really good burgers. Be warned tho, its cash only.
Really great beer selection. Back patio is huge but fills up fast on most nights so get there early if you've got a group. Food is pretty solid for bar food, I usually get the patty melt. Fantastic staff. My go to SF dive.
Absolute haven of craft beer and metal. Amazing find!
Hands down my favorite bar in SF. One of my go-tos when I lived here ( I was fortunate to be here btwn 2008-2012 and enjoy visits from legendary Tamale Lady - RIP ). Best 'bloodies' I've ever had and the vibe is unmatched, chill all around. Burgers are really good too. When this gem opens up again after covid, GO! Whenever in SF!
One if favorite places in the city. The vibe outside is so nice. The only thing is the heavy metal music can sometimes be too loud. But otherwise love this place for a beer with friends!
When I use to drink, I loved grabbing a drink every once in a while here.
Incredible food and drinks. Friendly staff. Nice place to host a birthday party on a sunny afternoon. Back patio is large enough for several guests.
Saw Joaquin Phoenix and Elon Musk here in February 2025. Elon Musk and I locked eyes but I think he was too shy to come up and speak to me... I saw him have a Diet Coke and some peanuts, thought if he was drinking he would have the courage to say something to me. I was kicked out of this establishment for putting my mouth on the bar tap again. I think I will try to return soon depending on how my mission in South America goes! I am Mormon.
Perfectly divey. Great outdoor space and music.
Loved this place instantly. Has a grunge dive feel but that hides high standards, superb food and a fantastic draft beer range. Staff are superb, friendly, and fast. Couple of decent pinball machines too. Mostly outdoor seating and plenty of shade.
This place is a greta spot and has been for years. Loud, noisy and a little dingy. Tons of craft local beer on tap, and the food is good as well. Burgers come "Burt to a crisp of bloody", and they scream your name when the order is ready. Not the cheapest place, but nowhere in San Francisco is really cheap. Really large garden and patio and if you're lucky, the Tamale Lady will show up! Great spot anytime you're in SF.
Isaac, you are a legend! Great place to kick back, drink and chill while listening to a range of punk, rockabilly and metal. Don’t be mistaken, this is a DIVE bar and it’s a great one! It’s been years since coming here last but love it every time. Even during COVID they’ve made it work and the outdoor seating is lively and safe. If you like strong drinks and good music come here.
This place is very original fantastic vibe ,beers are unique, with a large collection to choose from, employees are friendly and smiling most of the time, I guarantee that you will have such a good time, their food is good too amazingly, gets busy on the weekends thoug, better show up early.
Amazing hidden gem in the neighbourhood. Only found it because the cool name stuck out to us on Google maps. Close enough to everything to be convenient, just far enough off the beaten path to feel special. Quick service, super affordable for the city, and a bigger selection of beer I think I've ever seen! Food you order online (we got the punch burger and bratwurst with a poutine) was ready quickly, and was hot and fresh. Perfect for a late night snack as you're tossing back beer. They have a good selection of other cocktails and also make a mean martini!
Zeitgeist is an awesome spot in San Francisco! The atmosphere is fun and laid-back with a great outdoor space. The drinks are strong, the food is tasty, and the vibe is perfect for hanging out with friends. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the city—highly recommend!
Come for the good vibrations. It was busy af on a Sunday with a live band as well but we got lucky and snagged an outdoor table in the corner. It can get pretty crowded and rowdy at at time but that's what you're there for. The food there used a lot of nacho cheese for their stuff but whatever haha I wasn't there for the food. I honestly don't remember much from that day but I'd say that's a good thing LOL
Perfect beer garden for a sunny day, great selection of beers but last time we ordered our pitcher of margaritas and it wasn’t freshly squeezed limes like it used to be. Still a fun place.
Amazing beer selection and great outdoor seating, especially for large groups. The menu is limited but solid. Would love to see more shareable options like a basket of fries. Music is on point and the location couldn’t be better.
Walked in on a Friday 5pm, and the after-work crowd was thick. The atmosphere was fun, active, bustling, and comfortable. Every single spot in the outdoor space was packed with guys and girls who just want to enjoy their weekend. Music blasting, drinks flowing, easy going space.
It's been years since I've been to a bar like this, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It reminds me of the kinds of punk bars I would hang out in. This place has cool bartenders, pinball machines, and a great variety of draft beers. They also have a food menu (burgers, brats, etc.), but I didn't get a chance to try their stuff. I love this place and can't wait to come back.
This is and has been my favorite bar in San Francisco since I’ve been old enough to go into a bar. There’s just nothing like drinking beers outside, and the outdoor area is rad and the vibes are great. People can sometimes be inconsiderate with their cigarette smoking but it’s all good. Food is great. Beer selection is top notch. Highly recommend.
Great dive bar with an excellent beer selection. Not sure how many taps they have, but they were numerous. Not the greatest vibe, but it was pretty early in the morning and there weren't many people there. Sort of reminded me of Goat Hill Tavern in Costa Mesa. Didn't smell that bad though. Cash only.
Great little punk bar that occasionally plays some good metal music as well. Friendly staff (hi Joe at the door!) and killer Bloody Mary's. And the burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches are great too. There's a beer garden space out back, a pool table in the room where you order food and lots of good local beer to order. But remember, they're CASH ONLY so hit an ATM on the way over.
I didn't try the food, but there is a wide selection of beer available and ample seating outdoors, in addition to a pool table inside. It primarily has German styled beers and IPAs and so it might be a bit limited for fans of porters or stouts.
I always enjoy spending time at Zeitgeist. The ambience is what really stands out — relaxed and lively without being overly noisy. The open-air patio gives it a laid-back energy that makes it easy to settle in. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends
Amazing vibe. The music is not the best in my opinion but everything else is. I would definitely come again. It has pool tables inside and seating outside. Make sure you carry your ID with you. Best place to hangout after work or on weekends with friends.
Indoor bike parking, live music some nights, huge outdoor seating area, good drinks and great food. Can’t ask for more.
Great beer menu. Nice outside seating. Unfortunately food is a little over priced but actually pretty good FYI that this is a punk rock bar so expect a punk rock vibe - aka loud music, graffiti on most surfaces including bathrooms, etc. It does that vibe very well. But if you don’t want that vibe don’t come here - there’s plenty of hipstery - clean - millennial grey - beer gardens around - but this isn’t it
I’ve been coming to this spot for about 20 years, but I’ve only started popping back in more regularly over the last few months—and somehow I just now noticed they’ve got thousands of stickers covering the place, including a bunch of Green Cross stickers that made me smile. This has always been one of those classic San Francisco hangouts where you can grab a drink, chill with a beer, snap a photo, and dive into a burger that actually tastes homemade because it is. Their burgers are seriously next-level. They’ve always welcomed Romeo in with me, too. He’s a service dog, and while not every place makes that easy, they’ve never hesitated. The crowd here is the full San Francisco experience—friendly, mixed, authentic, and just plain fun. After all these years, this place still earns every one of its five stars.
5 stars for their epic drag brunch that happens every second Sunday of the month. Stoked to check out their drag bingo. The vibe is laid back and punk rock moto so expect graffiti and a rugged atmosphere with that hardcore feel but with a plethora of drink options and a dope backyard patio. We got the hard kombucha and an iced tea. Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks. And the brunch menu, delish. I suggest the tacos and corn.
Zeitgeist is a great spot. Kind of a punk patio beer bar with excellent food. It's great to go to on a nice day, especially after a visit to Dolores Park. Sometimes when it's really crowded it can mess up food orders and leave you waiting for a long time. However, it's almost always worth it. I especially love their burger but most of their offerings are great. Their beer selection is both good and varied, and the bartenders are cool even if not always the friendliest. I've never had a bad time here. If I lived closer I'd be here all the time.
A Coolio beer garden at the end of Valencia street. Live music happens here and good sound system for the speakers. Victory Sour Monkey is my go-to drink. Delicious and packs a punch. Nice to catch some sunshine on the back benches. Never had their food, but the rats probably mean they have skilled chefs. 👨🏾🍳🐀
really extensive tap list! it’s super organized, too, which makes it easy to pick a beer you love! the pitcher is a great deal. they have a massive patio with big communal tables and a small but tasty menu serving burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and classic bar snacks. perfect spot to wile away an afternoon.
One of my favorite places to come get a beer in the city. Even tho they've moved on from their cash only days, they still maintain a local and friendly vibe. The beer selection is always on point, the inside and outside areas are great, and they even had some kombucha company there the day we were there giving free samples and swag. A live band started playing as we were heading out, wish we had more time to enjoy here.
The place is nice - Beers - Fair amount of selection of beers and all of them are fresh! Place - First come first. You have to find a table for yourself and order the beers at the bar. Food order is through QR code and online. Once your food is ready you will receive a text and pick it up inside. And clean it when you leave. Food - Burger is awesome! That’s a real burger! The only downside is the toilet needs to be cleaned up. Conclusion - would recommend and come back again!
Iconic \nA must if you're in the Mission. \nZeitgeist is always a stop when we are home.

The tacos 🌮 I had here was delicious. I was disappointed at first when I came here but this place has really good food here. The service was very friendly here and the food was fantastic. I may come back here again sometime soon. I highly recommend this place if you ever are in need of a burger 🍔
Amazing staff, and a great beer selection. The clientele is no longer what one might expect (or remember) zeitgeist to be: there wasn't a single biker or bike messenger present. That said, folks were still kind, and the picnic tables still make sure you're gonna sit next to a stranger on a busy night, and hopefully have a good time.
Love this place. My wife and I go here every time we're in SF. We love their breakfast, the bloody Mary's are fantastic, and their beer selection is way above average. Great burgers and the vibe make this place one of a kind. It's your hardcore punk/ heavy metal paradise. And the guys that work there are cool AF.
CASH ONLY. I wasn't really prepared for that. The drinks were reasonably priced and they served pitchers which I'd s huge plus. They had a great selection of beers and they served some food as well. It was packed on a Sunday afternoon and it took a while to get a table outside. Very fun punk rock bar, great tunes ,great vibes, and great staff. I'm sure we will be back
I really enjoyed the scene here. It's a hip dive bar without the creepers. I loved being able to sit outside and the fact that it was private. The bike rack is cool too for those who bike. The bathrooms were very clean which is a huge plus in my book. I also enjoyed staring at the elephants painted on the wall in the garden. The bar has a wonderful selection of beer and some ciders. I am not a beer person so I had a cider. Pretty sure it was Blizzard or something like that. It was recommended by the bartender. I would definitely come here again and recommend it.
Great vibes. Fine beers. But $11 happy hour price for a pint of beer (pre-tip)? 😮💨 — prices have really spiraled…. 🌪️ After 3 beers at happy hour, my pockets were empty. Still looking for that ‘affordable’ bar in SF… in the meantime, beers in Yosemite (Mountain Room Lodge) were far more affordable. 🤯 🍺💸🌪️📈
This place was very interesting. A bit of a punk feel, if you're into that youll love it. The place had room but it gets extremely full. The food however is pretty awesome, but it does fill the whole place with food smell, which is good for me but maybe not for some people. Drinks were creative as well, had a nice hibiscus drink that hit the spot. Their beer selection is interesting and satisfying. Over all great experience. Only downside is parking - you will have to look around for it, but then again - that's all SF
Zeitgeist is unique place, I really like the atmosphere
I think dive bar is a pretty accurate description of this place. They have great beers of a large selection. The service is not over the top friendly, but they're doing their job well and not being pretentious. I actually appreciate that. The outdoor beer garden is dope! There is often live music too. Good vibes! I come here a lot.
If you want a taste of SF you are in the right place. This dive bar is open 7days a week. Big patio everyone sits together on long wooden tables. Lots and lots of beer options. They serve charbroiled burgers I really like them, hot dogs and other foods. You can play cards or dominos they have games there for you. All in one a must check it out spot!
amazing patio perfect for sf summer days tucked away in north mission / market. large selection of beers and other drinks with a pleasantly surprising food menu. nice place to catch up with friends with ample seating. fries: standard fries, nothing amazing brussel sprouts: would skip next time, a little soggy and too sour wings: crispy and well salted. pairs well with the beers.
A very large and open divey bar. Has a great beer selection, and a very large outdoor space as well as a pool table. Outdoor area has both a non smoking and smoking section.
Solid bar lots of room to hang out atmosphere is cool. Easy to order food with the QR codes. I love that they have multiple areas for bathrooms.
This place is pure San Francisco in the best possible way. A proper dive with a big outdoor area, it somehow manages to attract leather-clad bikers, crusty old-school locals, and middle-class millennials sipping rosé—all happily coexisting. The drinks are solid, the vibe’s decent, and it’s exactly the kind of place where you lose track of time and leave with a story. Not polished, not fancy, but absolutely full of character. Go for the people-watching, stay for the vibes. Pizza is an acquired taste…
Local beer house in SF, awesome. When you walk in its like a biker bar catering to the general crowd. Large selection of draft beers to choose from. There is a game section with a pool table. But the outside patio is righteous and a nice place to site chill and socialize. Outside area was packed and alive. Ordered a few drafts and had a great time. Beware the 80s punk rock restroom hahahaha. I say check it out.
Went here for an after work event. Great venue with lots of draft beer selections! They have both indoor and outdoor seatings.

Good vibe and good beer, the outdoor seating is great on a nice day and the crowd is always friendly. Plus they have a photo booth and pretty good grub. Always enjoy my time whenever I stop by
Maybe i just haven't gone at the right time...but I wasn't that impressed. Yes the patio area does seem like it'd be fun during a nice day in the city, but the couple of times I've been there, it's been at night and pretty chilly outside. The bar inside is a total biker bar, which is fine, but just not really my kind of place. I hear food is pretty good, but I haven't had a chance to try it. I may improve my rating once I'm able to go back and be there on a nice afternoon in the outdoor area.
Great spot, great beer, but they recently changed the food and it's very disappointing now. My giant pretzel was soggy, and the burger was some premade bland paddy that obviously just came from a box. Go for the beer but plan to eat elsewhere.
Food isn't good enough to justify how rude some of the bartenders are. I have been shortchanged the last two times I was there but somehow the same short old bartender made it MY fault? Regardless, they do have a good tap list and they have a great patio if you're a smoker.
Fun and classic SF dive bar that never changes. However the staff could make more of an effort to keep the bathrooms cleaner. Last time I was there the floor in the outdoor men's bathroom was legit…

Great bar with a cool atmosphere and great selection of local beer! Would have left an higher review if it wasn’t for the rude, unpleasant staff. The woman working the door made us feel unwelcome from the time we got there. She clearly wanted to go home and rushed everyone off the patio 30 mins before closing. She turned the music off and came on to the patio yelling at everyone to go inside and then when we went inside, we went to take a photo in the Photo Booth and she yelled at us three times to get out because she didn’t believe we were taking photos, resulting in our photos being ruined.
Reeked of cigarette smoke, multiple people smoking at the back patio. I’m here to destroy my liver, not my lungs.
I don't get how this place has a 4.3-star rating with 3,000+ reviews. When I was there, they made an announcement for everyone to leave because they were closing at 11:25 PM. This bar closes way earlier than what you'd expect in Europe. In Google it says they close at 00:00. I had to shot my drink before I leave.
Staff can be very rude and obnoxious. Nice outdoor space and good selection of beers, but may overcharge you if you’re from out of town. I would highly recommend going elsewhere to drink.

Gross bar. Vomit residue on ground/wall. Absolutely disgusting. Beers are beer so I guess they are fine. Busy and pretty avg service. Place was so gross where we were that Im leaving one of my only reviews I have ever made
Sometimes they let dogs in, sometimes they don’t. Kind of a strange policy for a bar. Plenty of other great places in the mission to go to
This place is a shell of its former self. The new owner changed it from a genuine dive bar into some fake-punk pastiche version of one. They even shut off the jukebox to play pop music when I was there! It's a major loss to the city and was a huge disappointment as an ex-resident visiting for the first time in 5 years. If you just want a place to drink beer in an outdoor patio, it's still a good space. But if you want to go to a genuinely old-school SF dive bar, with a beer selection that is actually good, go to Toronado (or Benders) instead.
Not my vibe.... waiting in line for 15 minutes for a drink and when my turn came, barmans changed shift without at least to say something (5 more minutes counting their money).... then when new one started, he fixed himself a drink before acknowledging me... 🤔
The venue is filthy. Every surface is sticky and leaves grime on your clothes and hands. The bathrooms are disgusting. The food is bland, overpriced, and takes way too long to prepare for its lack of complexity and flavor. The music is too outdated to be interesting, too grungy for dancing, and too loud for conversation. The staff are unfriendly and act as if they can’t be bothered, as if they hate being there and they hate you being there. Probably the only venue in SF with an outdoor space that doesn’t allow dogs.
A recommended stop but i wont be back. If it wasn't for the super lovely lady checking ids at the door i might have left after ordering beer at the bar. The guy was soooooo condescending it almost felt like a joke but sadly wasn't. Yuck! The bratwurst were good and beer selection amazing.
Overcrowded typical bier garden with graffiti on every exposed surface. Never been here before and will never return and will tell everyone I know to avoid. The culture in the staff is to surely to hate the customers and label them as drunk idiots rather than people. But Id like to go out of my way to review this place because of old man with a hat bartender really went out of his way to ruin our night. For no reason he begins treating us like absolute trash, rolling his eyes, slurring patronizing remarks, throwing his hands up in some kind of tantrum, and raising his voice at us. saying things to our face that as if we are clueless about drinks or beer (as if that matters). Get a new line of work, dude. He better hope I am not the one who builds his pacemaker.
