It was Saturday morning and I had to go to the Electrify America station to charge the car. After I got the car plugged in, there was a little voice that said to go over to the Country Inn Café you just passed and treat yourself to a nice breakfast. Now usually when I have gone out for breakfast it has been with the family. So was this little voice an angel encouraging me to go and relax and rejuvenate with some "me time". Or was it a little devil that wanted me to go and take pictures of what I ate to show them what daddy did without them. I think it was a little bit of both. What I really liked was that they had this very nice open outdoor dining area. My waitress was very nice and friendly. She explained to me that this used to be one of Holder's Country Inn restaurants but it was under different ownership but had the same menu. So I ordered my usual eggs over easy, bacon, sliced tomatoes and Swedish pancakes (with that wonderful lingonberry butter). And yep, it was just as awesome as the other Country Inn restaurants. The star of the show was the Swedish pancakes. I could just eat these until I pass out. Overall both the food and service were fantastic. I highly recommend it.
Good food with pleasant and quick service. They have a good veggie scramble and fruit waffle. Kids love the dollar sized pancakes and scrambled eggs. We get hash browns instead of bacon. Today we tried the place for lunch and I got the delicious veggie burger and the strawberry milkshake 😋
My wife and I were in the neighborhood and decided to have breakfast here during the week. Nice breakfast date! We had a wonderful breakfast, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the table service was attentive. The portions are huge and delicious! Awesome neighborhood gem.
5/23/2021. Attentive and quick service could be annoying because it feels as if they are rushing you to turnover tables, which does not make sense since they have full indoor and outdoor dining. Felt like I was rushed. Homemade salsa spicy and tasteful.
If heaven was a diner, this would be it. Sorry we didn't take photos before we started eating, but we were hungry and it looked too good. So, apologies for the half-eaten food pics. We are taking all of this home because we are full! I had the south of the border omelet souffle with salad instead of hash browns because carbs. Daughter had ham omelet souffle with pancakes, and added banana. Excellent, fresh ingredients (jicama is a great touch on the salad!), and wonderful friendly service. Definitely sharable-sized portions. Will definitely come here again when in the area.
Love the vintage feel of this place. My daughter had asked me to go there several times. Last day of school she got a brunch there and loved it
Great place for brunch!!! Absolutely delicious pancakes and waffle options. Egg Benedict and Garlic Bread is a must try

This is always a good place. Good menu good service. I got the steak Diablo breakfast. The steak was a bit chewy but was still good. Ive been here many times and I'll be back again.
They have great customer service! They realize that local people continue to return because of the personal acknowledgement from each employee! The food is excellent and your belly will be full when you leave!
Amazing food for the price and large helpings. Great with special or tricky orders. Michelle’s it probably the best waitress I have ever been served by.
This is a great place to eat. It's a small but delicious restaurant that has great customer service and good food. Only open breakfast and lunch. Great patio for families to sit.
Always feeling welcome there, the stuff is great and the food is tasty (everybody leaves with a to go bag, cause it is a lot)
Good service, food, portions and prices. Cafe interior is a bit outdated but I'm not sure that really matters if you're just looking to grab a tasty meal. One of my favorite places for weekend breakfast.
Service is great. Food is prepared very well . Great taste , i would recommend this place and i will be back there to eat again.
Excellent service, and delicious breakfast! Owner often comes by to say hello; love the personalized attention. Highly recommend.
the food was very good and the service was great and im good friends the owners son.
My husband and I were so pleased with our breakfast! The food was fresh, well prepared. Definitely a favorite!
For breakfast, the Louisiana Scramble was fabulous. We dined outside on the patio. The servers were spot on and took great care of us.
Love this place! Eat there several times a month. Service is terrific.
Amazing food and wonderful staff. A must visit for breakfast. Great choices and delicious. Belgian pancakes are a must for a treat. Will be visiting again for certain. Parking on site.
This is a place for customer satisfaction. The waffle in the picture is NOT a menu item. It is a “Fruit Waffle” with addition of chocolate chips, walnuts and whip topping. Thank you County Inn Cafe for the beautiful presentation.
I often visit this place with my girlfriend. It is a jewel in the city. I love the broad spectrum of options they have I always get the Chile Verdethe service is fantastic. I always tip for gratitude
If you wanna eat something delicious go to country inn but this is my secret , the faster place is n Almaden if ypu go to monterrey rd the waiting list sometimes is like 30min , that is the big difference, I love the food , the service is very nice the people there is very friendly 😊
We've been going here for years and were disappointed when they hadn't opened earlier. Still serving homestyle meals with friendly service. Glad they're back!
Enjoyed the new outdoor patio. Their souffle style omelettes are really good. Portions are very generous.
Easily my favorite restaurant in San Jose. The staff is so friendly and have been there since I was a kid and the food is amazing and made with love. This is a great place.
We enjoyed a delicious brunch after church. Highly recommend. Warm, family oriented cafe with comfortable indoor and *covered outdoor* seating. exceptional food and service run by a hardworking family. A special place and we look forward to our next visit!
Neighborhood staple for breakfast and lunch. Still not open for dinner service yet but I understand that's the plan. Honestly I think their food quality went down before COVID and we stopped going. After they build their patio, we have them another try and the food was great. We have been regulars again for the last several years. Unlike so many restaurants, they thrived during covid by building their patio dining area which is covered and dog friendly. We have not dined inside here for over a year because it's so nice outside. Based on the improvement in food quality I wonder if they also have new people in the kitchen. Hopefully they will open for dinner service soon. 🤞
We had a large party with many "extra" individuals, which I don't wish on anybody, but our server Alicia handled it with grace and gave us a wonderful experience. We'll be back, and hopefully not as "extra" next time.
Great place! Delicious food, very attentive service, good value for your money. Had two beautiful center cut boneless pork chops, my friend had the grilled salmon with avocado salsa so delicious! Love the Good Ol fashioned comfort food.
Sam and the crew are the best. We've gone there often over the last 12 years and have never walked away saying anything except "that was great!" The dinner specials are creative and delicious. Of course, for me, it's hard not to order one of their omelets with pancakes. Go Giants!
Awesome place with great breakfasts. I came to this place a couple of times in last couple of weeks. Very friendly staff, good food and cozy place! I like it a lot!
After having a horrible experience at Mimosas, we decided to try here because it was so close & it was the best decision of the day. Every single person we interacted with was nice & helpful & the service was super prompt. Our server, Alberto, was friendly & the food & mimosas were great. Highly recommended.
I liked this place. I got their strawberry waffles. They give a sizeable amount and it tasted yummy. Freshly brewed, hot coffee. The staff are friendly and professional. They're a bit on the pricier side but I'd like to visit again.
A little old-fashioned coffee house atmosphere nice wonderful people great service really willing to please the customer
Excellent service and food! Awesome staff! This is our go to breakfast restaurant. Thank you!
Food was very good. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger, very good size burger with lots of toppings. Had actual Bacon, not pieces you can read through. Peach Pie is great!
I highly recommend the Country Inn Cafe if you desire a tasty breakfast. Our servers were always smiling, and we never ran out of coffee. The food was delicious. We had the Louisiana Scramble and the Salmon Omlette Soufle. Both did not dissapoint. I will definitely eat at the Country Inn Cafe!
My uncle and I have been hiking recently, and we've discovered the trails in Almaden. After we hike, we go to lunch (restaurants varying depending on the location of the hike), and Country Inn Cafe [CIC] is where we've gone after both our Almaden hikes. The food is SO good, and the wait staff is very friendly. This last time, our waitress was Alicia! (Growing up, NO ONE had my name. It was NOT popular or common. Nowadays, it's not AS unusual as it once was to come across another Alicia. But doing so still throws me for a loop because for so long I was the only Alicia in my sphere.) Anyhow, our first after-the-hike lunch, I had a salad. The Southwest salad (can't remember the exact name), and, oh, my gosh! You'd better come to CIC with a BIG appetite or you'll be carting home leftovers! That salad was HUGE and SO good. This last visit, I went with a chicken sandwich (again, can't remember the name). And THAT was good, too. Their French fries are excellent--crispy outer "shell" with a mushy interior. I really do recommend CIC very much. As I said, the food is great and PLENTIFUL, and the atmosphere is cozy, homey. It's the sort of place that you can imagine staff greeting you by name as you walk through the door (if you're a regular)--it has that sort of friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Oh, at the CIC near Almaden, you can eat outdoors if you'd like. They have a big tent (probably started during COVID) for outdoor dining, but we always prefer to eat inside (that way, your food and hot beverages don't quickly get cold).
Wonderful place to eat, a true hidden gem. Service was also very good. But don't go there, because then I would have to wait.
Their food is always tasty. The service is always impeccable. And the ambiance is always serene. I can't wait until the weather warms up so we can sit outside.
Country Inn is a staple of Almaden culture. It's been here forever and the food is consistently fantastic quality. The owner knows his customers. And is great about receiving feedback. I frigging love this place. Try the Swedish pancakes with the lingonberry butter. They're to die for!
Really good food here. Its a nice small mom and pop breakfast lunch dinner place. The waitresses and bus boys are nice and helpful. The food portions were big which made me want to review this place. Highly reccomend if you like a classic restaurant with good food.
I took my girlfriend here for breakfast yesterday. She has a severe nut allergy, and usually sticks to places she knows she can eat at. I always push for her to try more places, so I took her to Country Inn to see if they could accomodate her allergy. She was hesitant (moreso since a lot of the menu items included peanuts) but she said she would give it a go depending on how our waittess responded. Our waitress Jessica was very helpful and made sure that the food she was served didnt have any cross contamination or any issues. I really appreciated the effort she and the backhouse put in to make sure there would be no concerns, and we had a very good breakfast (at 3 PM). I plan on coming back more often with her, and we felt very welcome.
Great little diner. Always a full plate and smiles. I'm quite picky when it comes to a good breakfast, but this place always delivers. Good stuff!
Love this place! This has become our go-to breakfast spot. Everyone is so friendly. The first time we came, we were new to the area, and the staff greeted us as though we were long-time customers. The food is excellent and, no matter how busy they are, the service is fast. Highly recommend!
Great breakfasts. They always have several items on the specials menu, so you don't get bored. I just had the California burger for lunch that was delicious. The staff is always friendly and attentive. One side of the restaurant has a TV to keep up on the sports world. We have been going there for years. It's a great neighborhood restaurant
Food is always great here I mainly come for their biscuits and gravy. It is super heavy but since I rarely get it, it's HERE is where it's at. I always do feel it need more black pepper though lol waitress who attended us was kind of taking her time distracted by other things (working) so my food was already cooled down by the time I got to eat it. Other then that, food was great we were attend and greeted as soon as we got there coffee is always fresh and they have vanilla creamer! Lol not a lot of places do so I really enjoy it. I'll be going again for sure. We always meet up there with my dad and mom for breakfast for about 5 years now. This has been our spot since then
The restaurant is awesome. Friendly staff and waitress. Always ask you for more coffee!.. And the more importantly, the coffee is tasty. Been there several times, foods are always good in general. Highly recommended steak and avocado benedict and crab cake melt. Their fruit Swedish crepes are filled with REAL fruit and it is not a sweet side.
Was very happy with my omelet, pancakes, and coffee. I would come back if im in the area again!
Great food, really nice people and great service
Very consistent. Always the best service and really good food. Comfort & hardy food with delicious breakfast options. Love the Swedish pancakes with the special butter and really enjoy all the sandwich options as well as salad options. My son loves the breakfast tacos or chorizo special scramble.
My dad and I found this place looking for a good breakfast spot to eat at. It's a great place to eat. The food is so good, I can't wait to take the rest of my family to enjoy the food. My dad had the linguica and eggs which was great he said. I had french toast and it was so good I ate it all. I highly recommend them. 👍 😋
Thanksgiving Sunday brunch. Was surprised to see no waiting. But soon realized how they managed it. We had 3 servers stopping by asking if we needed anything. Service was super fast. And we saw fast turnaround all around us! They sped up their service and I guess another way of better and faster service without compromising quality. Didn't have to wait for coffee to be refilled..it was filled automatically by a roaming coffee refiller!
Went with family for Saturday lunch. Very friendly, family diner with terrific food and service. Really enjoyed my meal and will be back. A+
Biscuits and gravy is awesome a must order chicken fried steak tender and velvety gravy delicious food breakfast or lunch this is a good restaurant food tastes like it's homemade staff friendly and outdoor seating for dogs beautiful outdoor area
So good! And staff is so nice too. And the meals were out hot and quick too. Wow!
The restaurant was great. The soup is really good and their sandwiches are delicious.

Nice local place for breakfast - has the same basic menu as the place off meridian. Food pretty solid, but not any real standouts to make it a destination spot. I like the biscuits and gravy combo. Staff friendly, the place is comfortable like and older diner.
Typical American food. Good selection for breakfast. Servers were very friendly and cheerful when we were there for Sunday breakfast.

It was funny to see Healthy options section in the menu. Does it mean that everything else is unhealthy? Anyway, food and service were ok. But next time I will try something from healthy section. Steak covered by bacon might be too much for a lunch.
It's what you expect from holders. New ownership but the same great food and service. I had the grilled chicken club it was excellent.
I went with a large group. The have great menu choices. The waitress was very good. I would go back.
This is North Beach's best kept secret for breakfast-it is not pretenious or have lines for 2 hours. The best coffee around and great breakfast plates in a quiet location. The price is fairly reasonable for San Jose. Our waiter was the best. We all had different dishes and like them all.
Great breakfast for years. Just went and destroyed their country skillet for the many'eth time. Old school place, great atmosphere and good old cooking, with cooks that are on the ball. Definitely a local place😊
Had lunch on the outdoor patio area which is covered by a large white tent. Despite it being the middle of the day, the area was quite comfortable with a nice cooling breeze. The waiter was prompt with his service, quickly taking our order and serving us our drinks despite waiting on multiple tables. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger with seasoned fries and an Arnold Palmer to drink. The hamburger was hot and flavorful as were the fries. The menu contained multiple breakfast, lunch, and dinner items which I cannot wait to try on future visits. Would definitely reccomend this place for those looking for a nice and hearty meal.
Service was good, employees were great, polite, and fast. Food was good. I was disappointed with their homemade salsa.
Food is healthy, probably less flavorful than you prefer but it is healthier.

tried breakfast and lunch here. breakfast was good, steak sandwich was very good. Salmon with vegetable and rice was good. pesto chicken sandwich was really bad: chicken was over fried and too salty. I prefer to have my side order on the side of the food, not as an appetizer. so preferred to have side salad with food not separately. staff are just doing their job, without any attempts to make any human connection or smile.
I ordered a garden omelette which came with hash-browns and pancakes. The omelette was huge but really bland. The hash-browns went well with them because they had a bit stronger taste. The pancakes were great though- plain but they tasted kind of like cornbread. They were so good, I didn’t even need maple syrup for them! The service was okay and it definitely looks like an old American diner so it fit the part! My sister got their chile verde which she liked but I thought the chile verde wasn’t very juicy and also kind of bland, especially compared to the chile verde at authentic Mexican restaurants. But that should be expected because this place is not a Mexican restaurant. TLDR- it’s an average diner but has awesome plain pancakes.

The food was alittle dry. Didn't like how they put sliced plastic cheese on our food. Should be real cheese. They do give you large portion . Will go back again but will order something else. They have a big menu to choose from.
Don't know why, I've been here many times, but the last 2 times, the food has not been very good. I probably will not go back there anymore..
Everything was fine. The crepes were an odd consistency on the bottom. The omelette was ok. My friend really enjoyed his Benedict. My other friend liked the eggs and beans on her huevos rancheros, but the sauce was less to be desired.
Waitress is always very rough and always in rush and doesn't pay attention who ordered what if it involves more than one person. Food is decent. Don't know when their back parking lot will ever finish paving/repair!
Too expensive, unless you’re a loyalist.
This place has recently changed hands. The food is still good the service is still good, but they currently do not have my favorite dish which was the fried chicken . And honestly I go there for that so perhaps it's just during this opening. , But I hope it shows up soon .
Nothing special. 5 start for service though. Very polite and friendly people! Typical breakfast foods. I asked for toast well done, but came half done. I don't understand why restaurants can't TOAST bread? Lol. It should be crispy on both sides, not just one side and that side barley toasted...Haha.. Anyway, we'll go back.
A regular gathering place for friends after hiking at Almaden Quicksilver. Staff is very nice and breakfast offerings I've tried, great. Not too impressed with salad I had though.
We were running errands in the neighborhood so decided to try this place for lunch. Even though Country Inn is part of its name, we figured it wasn't one of the Holder's chain. Interestingly, the menu was almost identical to theirs: layout, dishes, etc. Having lived a short walk from Mission City Grill (perhaps Holder's flagship restaurant) we were extremely well versed with their offerings and bore them in mind as a point of comparison. We both got breakfast plates. Immediately we noticed portions were a bit smaller, like only one slice of toast each. The hash browns, however, came out tastier. The food was fine but I became aware of my growing discomfort. There was no air circulation of any kind—completely lacking air conditioning—which became more bothersome the longer we sat. It wasn't even that hot outside, maybe 77 degrees at most. To compound this problem, after we finished eating the manager took our payment and handed it off to someone at the cashier's station then resumed making conversation with other customers. This went on for 10-15 minutes until else someone noticed us desperately waiting and rang us up. Overall a middling experience. If you're in the area hungry for breakfast or lunch, this might do. If you are closer to a different Country Inn, take that opportunity for a more comfortable meal
Was greeted by a friendly staff, and had an awesome waiter. But unfortunately the food was a bit lackluster. The eggs in my omelet were overcooked, the breakfast sandwich was burned, and the hash browns were cold inside. It was my first time visiting, so went in with an open mind and no expectations and was a little bit let down. On the edge about recommending this place when there are so many other good breakfast places nearby. However, I would be willing to give it another try, as it was pretty busy when I was in there and I understand mistakes happen.
Open-face hot turkey sandwich was made with thin deli sliced turkey, not carved breast meat, which was a disappointment. Service was great.
First of all the food was delicious no complaints there but the hostess two young girls both with glasses on, were not friendly at all me and my friend received weird stares the whole time we were there and made us feel uncomfortable. The waiter some blonde lady kept rushing us to leave or something she gave us the bill, we weren’t even done with our food. Please do better with ur staff especially the short girl with girly hair and glasses she’s so rude
Underwhelming experience would be an understatement. Had to beg for refills, and the biscuits and gravy were a culinary catastrophe. However, the omelette was a lone shining star - cooked to perfection and actually tasted good. Overall, it was a thoroughly mediocre meal.
Looking forward to eating some wonderful fresh hand carved turkey, what I got was store bought turkey loaf and smoked besides. Raw veggies and mashed potatoes out of a box, certainly not worth the money. This turkey was full of preservatives and salt and you could taste it.
I always come to this place, when I come with comfortable clothes, they always serve us in a bad way, the raw eggs seem pure, the potatoes are very cold and they did not even come to offer more coffee or if you occupied something if you are Latino and you come, try to come with good clothes and makeup.

First time here. Was just very hungry and the original restaurant I had on mind was packed and so I settled for this place without giving it a second thought. You know when you eat and it just did not do it for you no matter how hungry you are? This is how i felt while eating the food here. The place can use some touch up too as it looks really old and unkept. Food was sub par and they aren’t cheap either. Although servers are nice. I don’t think i will come back due to the fact that I didn’t have the wow experience. Nothing special about this restaurant. I think i will go to panda express next time. As you could never go wrong with chow mein or fried rice :)

Service was good and very friendly. The breakfast food was not that great though. My pancakes were sour and my mom had undercooked sausage. My mom visits here regularly and she told me the food quality has changed the past few months. I remember their lunch food being alot better as well so I would just not recommend eating breakfast here.
I ordered two French toast via Doordash and my toast came without toppings as described in the listing. I double checked and you can REMOVE toppings if you CHOOSE to, which I did not. I got plain toast. Disappointed.
Ordered the chicken fried steak - the gravy was the blandest I have ever had, the eggs (scrambled) we're ok. I ordered some swedish crepes aaa side, those were really bad. Won't go back.
This was our familys go to spot for breakfast, but we will no longer be going here after today's experience. The service was bad. The wait 30 mins for your food get no refills and have utinsils with food stick to them bad. The food was almost inedible/ cold and not worth the price you pay. Bacon= microwaved premade flimsy garbage. Sausage= microwaved flimsy bad tasting garbage. (My kids wouldn't eat it and they love sasuge. Eggs= way over cooked stiff and rubber. Potatoes= we're ok but under cooked Biscuit= Was grany and tasted like something out of a box and a discount box at that. I can go on... I recommend going somewhere else for breakfast. This place seems to be cutting corners, which is common for restaurants that are struggling. Sad to see because it was such a great spot for breakfast.
This was the 3rd time in a row I been disappointed at this place. We used to eat here all the time but the food quality has gone down drastically. They always manage to mess up food orders. Even when told about food allergies enough attention is NOT given in the kitchen. I got food to go today and despite telling then no to certain thing in the dish they added plenty of it and now I am suffering cause of someone’s inability or ignorance. Chicken fried steak had weird smell and taste to it. Other dish ended up With tons of onions when told no onions and when asked for sunny side eggs on side instead on top they scrambled the eggs with potatoes and then charged for 2 sunny side eggs on side. Come on it’s not rocket science to understand food order. I hate writing negative reviews but I have had it with this place. Despite telling the owner several times the quality of the food and place continues. I will not be going to this place again. What a huge disappointment and waste of money.
I don't remember the food being this bad last time I was here. I ordered French Toast the slices were thin and had no flavor. I make better French Toast at home. The bacon was rubbery and black as if they didn't clean the grill and it then sat all day. We also ordered a spicy stake omelet again it had no flavor, none whatsoever, no salt, no pepper, nothing. When I brought it up to the waitress she was very nice and understanding and informed us that they don't use any spices in their food at all as a "policy" .. well not much you can say to that . I tried to finish my food adding my own spices, but you can't put lipstick on pig to make it pretty. I talked to the manager and she comped our whole meal. I made sure to tip our waitress, it's not her fault. If you are an aging octogenarian with a doctors restriction on flavor this is the place for you . For the rest of you I do not recommend it. I don't understand why their ratings are so high for restaurant with a policy of adding no flavor to their food at all?
Please you guys is time to change the plastic glasses or need to get washed properly and also the silverware 🍽 are nasty 😠🤮🤮 PLEASE OWNERS THANKS my first time here today maybe I'll try for a second time just to 👀 if u guys ARE BETTER BYE
