It was an awesome encounter with this spot in Phily, I tried their menu and meals were great, the flavors were crazy good, super fresh, and perfectly seasoned. Their vegan options? Shockingly delicious they really understood the assignment. Customer service was top tier and welcoming. You can feel the love in the food AND the space. I 100% recommend
I had an amazing experience at Casa Borinqueña I just moved to the area and wanted a quick bite to it I didn’t think I’d stumble across such a hidden gem. Firstly I didn’t even know this was a vegan restaurant the food was soo good and flavorful I ate the entire thing! I ordered a sample platter and a pastallio and whew they were delicious. The prices are good for the amount of food and the atmosphere was nice. I sat by the window while eating and last but not lease the owner. Imagine my surprise when I found out the person who took my order was the owner he was so sweet and attentive. I’ll definitely be back with my friends and family!
Absolutely love this place and their food. The service is so wonderful and they are so kind and caring. You have to get the tres leches cake. Their skewers/kebobs are sooooooo good like literally perfect. I absolutely love having a good place on Frankford ave that doesn't use any animal products.
Today I had a late lunch here at this wonderful establishment that has just opened up 2 months ago. I can not express enough just how incredible the food is at this restaurant. Price point, perfect, quality and taste of food exceptional! The crazy part is that it’s Spanish food that is all vegan! Like blows my mind because I’m not even a vegan and I just knew I was on the island of PR eating some delightful Spanish dishes. People hands down go to the place and don’t think about it being vegan because I promise you, you won’t even think about that one bit. Trust me! The owner and his wife and son were absolutely amazing. Customer service was outstanding. Definitely going back! 10 out of 10 people!
Amazing!!! As a vegetarian, I was in paradise eating here. A friend and I went at 8 pm on a Sunday. Because we missed the dinner rush, we could linger over the menu, ask questions, and chat with the woman naming the counter (who was as kind and warm as can be!). We ordered the pincho platter (with salad, rice with pigeon peas, and plantain)with alcapurria, pasteles, tres leches, and passionfruit lemonade. Simply to die for. The flavors were top notch all around. The alcapurria was my favorite with that creamy dipping sauce and the pincho was close behind. My friend and I have already talked about the food twice—and we just went last night! You have to try it! Just be aware that the restaurant is small, so go at an off time if you plan to dine in.
My husband and I split the BBQ sampler, an order of papas, pastelillos, and alcapurria. Amazing would be an understatement! I’ve been a vegetarian over 20 years and my husband is a meat eater and we both loved it all. I grew up with an Aunt that makes amazing Puerto Rican food but she’s not familiar with meat alternatives and this just brought me back. We will be ordering again!
Casa Borinqueña in Philly is that spot! The second you walk in, the culture, artwork, and energy hit you it legit feels like stepping right into Puerto Rico. I tried the loaded tostones with the mojo mushroom “pork,” the BBQ pincho, and a pastelillo, and every single thing was NEXT-LEVEL. The flavors were crazy good, super fresh, and perfectly seasoned. Their vegan options? Shockingly delicious they really understood the assignment. Customer service was top tier. We met the owner and he was incredibly warm, welcoming, and full of good vibes. You can feel the love in the food AND the space. Plus: they’re wheelchair accessible and kid friendly, which I loved the space is open, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming for everyone. If you’re in Philly and haven’t pulled up to Casa Borinqueña yet, you’re sleeping! This spot is a MUST-VISIT. I’m already planning my next round! 🔥✨❤️🤍💙🇵🇷
Seating is limited, parking is limited, and you will wait a bit for your food -- but it is 1000% worth it! My friends and I pretty much ordered half the menu and all of it was delicious. It was really great to bring a dear friend of mine who is Venezuelan and vegetarian to a place where she was able to fully enjoy a Puerto Rican meal. I am so happy this place opened and hope it takes off in a big way!
Happily & easily giving CB 5 out of 5 stars. Being nearly a lifelong vegan, it was pure fantasy to imagine places like Casa Borinqueña back in the early 90’s, in the dawning of the vegan/plant based movement. What this establishment provides is a delectable window into the cuisine of Puerto Rico through a plant based lens… and the results are bombast & hearty dishes & appetizers. The atmosphere & genial attitude of the staff prime you for the high-prana food you’ll receive. We tried the relleno de papa, the pastelillo con impossible beef, the sampler beef pasteles con arroz/habichuelas, the alcapurria, the tres leches & had two kola champagnes. Every bite was an adventure & this order, between two people was enough that we left feeling satisfied but not stuffed or bogged down (though, the cake was mostly to go!). I cannot wait to return to Casa Borinqueña & wish these marvelous folks huge success over many years serving the community. Mil gracias, amigos.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Positively Delightful! This vegan Puerto Rican restaurant blew me away! The island flavors are so vibrant and authentic it’s the most delicious taste of Puerto Rico I’ve had since becoming vegan. Every bite felt like a celebration of flavor, culture, and creativity. You can tell there’s real love and soul behind every dish. Absolutely, positively delightful a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience true Caribbean comfort, vegan style! 🌱🇵🇷✨
The food was amazing - having tried a lot of Latin vegan restaurants with mixed outcomes, we can definitely say this is one of the best. Casa Borinqueña will satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike (my partner is not vegan but was raving about the food). The mushroom sampler was an incredibly delicious option for those who don’t like imitation meat. The atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming, and cozy. Must try, we’ll definitely be back.
You know it’s going to be a good vibe when the playlist while being here is all Bad Bunny. As someone who rarely each vegetarian options this may have been one of the best meals I’ve had. Went with the chickn pincho platter and while it’s not real chicken I would recommend to everyone that comes here. The Arroz con gandules were rich in flavor and tasted as someone’s grandma had made a pot for Christmas Eve dinner. Comes with a nice salad too that has a light dressing that is nice and delicate. The thing that really surprised me was the alcapurria with impossible meat. I really couldn’t tell the difference between a regular ground beef and the impossible meat. Think this goes to their masa being well seasoned and being cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend to those that aren’t vegan to come try this place out because I know I’ll be coming back.
Not vegan? Doesn’t matter—you’re going to LOVE this place. Every bite bursts with authentic Puerto Rican flavor that’ll transport you straight to the island. Picture this: Bad Bunny playing in the background, vibrant island-inspired decor all around, and food is perfection 🌴🎶 The staff? Absolutely amazing—warm, welcoming, and full of good vibes. This spot is the perfect mix of culture, flavor, and fun. I’ve officially found my new go-to hangout, and trust me… once you try it, you’ll be hooked too.
I have no complaints. Each item I chose was delicious. My sister and I ordered loaded tostones with beyond meat, Side Of Arroz Con Gandules, Pastele, and Alcapurrias. I devoured the food . The flavors were amazing. I always crave PR food but I'm vegan . I ate everything and took some home for later . It taste just as good reheated . The staff was friendly and the service was amazing. I will return.
I was so excited to try Puerto Rican food for the first time! I highly recommend trying the Pincho BBQ "chicken" sampler platter if you can. It comes with a really nice assortment of yummy food - yellow rice, salad greens, perfectly fried plantains, and some really excellent vegan chicken on two skewers. Everything here is vegan but they don't make a big deal about it... which means more non-vegans are coming in to try this EXCELLENT Puerto Rican fare. Yum. It's a super cute place - so bright and cheerful and fairly easy to get to. We found parking easily and it's also a quick walk to the El. The owner was really nice and the food came out really quickly even though there were a ton of people there that day.
My husband and I have been looking forward to trying this place out, and it did not disappoint! We visited for lunch this week, and were blown away by the food! He had the sample platter with the BBQ pinchas, and not one bit was left! I tried the yucca fries with the mushroom “pork” and the alcapurria….WOW! The decor was awesome - very bright and reflected the culture in such a beautiful way. We will definitely be back and will recommend to everyone!
As a Puerto Rican who’s had a lot of Puerto Rican food in my life, I never thought our cuisine could be made vegan and still hit the same, but I was proven wrong. This spot blew me away. The rice and beans? Some of the best I’ve had in my life, no exaggeration. The pincho tasted like I just grabbed it off the corner in North Philly. Juicy, full of flavor, and it even convinced my friend it was real chicken. The alcapurrias? Straight outta Loíza, PR. Full of flavor. I know they might not look the best, but if you know, you know. This is one of our best street foods, and they nailed it. The mofongo balls were cooked perfectly, and the mushrooms they used to imitate pork honestly fooled me for a second with how well they soaked up the sazón. The relleno de papa was one of the best I’ve ever had. They managed to make it super crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside. Yuca fries were crispy and hit the spot, and the imitation beef had the same texture and taste as typical ground beef. Mad impressive. We ended it with a tres leches that had so much flavor and didn’t bother my lactose-intolerant girlfriend one bit. Miracle. I had my doubts walking in since I’m a hardcore meat eater, but this place completely exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely be a regular. And as a bonus, they’re halal too. Shoutout to inclusivity.
The only reason i'm giving one star less, the food is so fantastic. I think if they garnish each of their dishes it would bring each dish more to life, people not only eat with their mouths, they also eat with their eyes. Perhaps a few cilantro sprigs thin sliced radishes maybe a few cherry tomatoes would be perfect. As far as the food was cooked, the flavor was great Texture, was perfect. I think it would benefit them to list their ingredients on the menu, including seasonings, also allergy disclosures. If I miss these, Please correct me. Definitely will be back here for another great meal.
Puerto Rican restaurant so I had to support even though I’m not vegan. As soon as you walk in you are hit with the delicious smells and everything Puerto Rico. Staff was very nice and place was clean. We ordered and food was out very quickly and hot. Ordered the sampler platter, an alcapurria, pastellio and the coquito tres leche. My favorite was the alcapurria not the best I’ve had but was not greasy or thick. Pastellio did not like the filling. You can tell by the color of Spanish rice whether it will be good or not. I was excited to taste it because the color was good but once I tasted it I was disappointed because of the overpowering taste of a spice I believe is cumin. Less of it or not use it at all and the rice would be good. Was not a fan of the chicken kabobs. The tres leche was on the dry side but taste was okay. I believe it’s overly priced for the food. Might go back to taste the fresh baked bread but definitely would not get the food.
