Estupenda la comida

Okui Sushi Bar has some amazing sushi and phenomenal drinks. The dining area was very clean and had a very chic look and vibe to it. The bacalao sushi was a fun twist on a very simple and delicious staple Puerto Rican food. The classic mojito here is to die for. I really enjoyed my time in Ponce today and Okui Sushi Bar was a great way to end the day!

Okui Sushi Bar has some amazing sushi and phenomenal drinks. The dining area was very clean and had a very chic look and vibe to it. The bacalao sushi was a fun twist on a very simple and delicious staple Puerto Rican food. The classic mojito here is to die for. I really enjoyed my time in Ponce today and Okui Sushi Bar was a great way to end the day!

Pleasantly surprised. The service was quick and the sushi was tasty. The restaurant itself is quaint and has maybe 10 tables. The decor is very modern and the music being played flowed with the atmosphere. Our server was quick and attentive. The prices are a tad bit more than usual but not too much. I would visit this establishment again.

Sushi is really good. The only thing I suggest is better lighting or make the menu in white background with bold letters. Although I guess, it's part of the design concept, kinda chic...it's too dark to read the menu.

I was told to pick up on 45 min. It took 1 hour 15 min.

El menú de sushi y sashimi no es atractivo, al final decidí ordenar el arroz frito con vegetales y carne, solicité que fuese con vegetales y un toque de arroz y pagaría más de ser necesario. Me sirvieron una palangana de arroz, pocos vegetales y la carne en porción normal. El sabor en general es para saciar el hambre pero no para degustarlo.

This is one of those unfortunate moments where human interaction could have made all the difference. It was my first time visiting. I asked if they had a menu, and the person behind the counter, clearly uninterested, simply pointed to a QR code to scan. No explanation, no engagement—just a gesture. So I sat down, scanned the code, and took my time reviewing the menu. By the time I was ready to order… he had disappeared. That alone says a lot. I picked up on the lack of interest immediately, and I made the decision to leave. Because when the service feels disconnected, it raises a bigger question: 👉 If the attitude is careless in front of the customer… what happens behind the scenes? Especially when you’re working with raw food. I observed body language that doesn’t align with food safety or professionalism—hands on the face, elbows on the counter, a general lack of presence. And in a sushi environment, where precision, cleanliness, and discipline are non-negotiable, that matters. As a chef, I can tell you this clearly: Cleanliness is not just physical—it’s behavioral. It’s posture. It’s awareness. It’s respect for the craft and the customer. Before a guest even takes a bite, the visual and the energy tell the story. Now, I did not eat the food, so this is not a critique of flavor. This is a critique of standards and perception. And when it comes to sushi—perception is everything. I will also say this: sushi is not just a technique, it’s a discipline rooted in culture, repetition, and respect. A crash-course approach shows… and it can be felt. So I chose to pass. This is not written with malice, but with clarity.
