This should be a MUST stop if you are passing through SLO. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is top notch. They didn’t have a few items on the menu but whatever we ordered was delicious. They also have a lot of vegetarian options. Just eat here you won’t be disappointed.

Delicious! Paella and chicharrón sandwich (separate things) were both super tasty. Small spot in a corner store, but with indoor seating and nice tables in the park across the street.

Update: Coya expanded to a beautiful historic location in downtown SLO with its interior transformed into a warm and inviting Peruvian space where the food may hit your soul even harder. If you know, you know! — Everything Catalina does is just heavenly. I feel privileged and grateful to have her cooking and cuisine for all our community to enjoy!

We love the empanadas and service. Appears to be a one woman show - she does the cooking and serving all with the sweetest disposition it makes the entire experience! Get her worth recommendations and enjoy her enthusiasm about the food.

We wandered into COYA for lunch and were so glad we did! The special was lomo saltado and aji de gallina, which we split. The food was delicious - fresh and delicately spiced. Outstanding! We had chicha morada and passion fruit drinks, and helado de lucuma for dessert. I don't have the words to describe the bold yet balanced flavors of the dishes, drinks and dessert. You must go and taste for yourself!

This was our first time in and we will for sure come back with family and friends! Coya is a cozy atmosphere with authentic Peruvian cuisine. Portions are a GOOD size! Flavors are amazing. We met the owner and chef, Caterina (I may have spelled her name wrong) and she was so lovely. Her food is made from her heart and soul.

If you like supporting local businesses, you must try COYA. Authentic Peruvian food located inside the “Sidewalk Deli” and it was so good. It was my first time and the woman running the joint was kind and helped me choose which dish to go with. I didn’t even take a picture of the food I got before I practically cleaned the plate in 10 minutes. I work down the street and will definitely be coming here more often.

I visited COYA on September 1st with my Peruvian husband, and we absolutely loved the food! My favorite was the ceviche, they have REAL Peruvian ceviche. It’s so hard to find authentic Peruvian food in the US, and if you’ve eaten it in Peru, you know it’s almost impossible to find the same flavors here. But COYA truly delivers the real Peruvian taste. And last but not least, the service was excellent! Our dog was immediately given water, and we felt very well taken care of. Thank you so much for such a nice experience 💕💕💕💕

Met up in this gem with the besties. Food was full of flavor, and service was on point. I highly recommend the Maracuya drink for the hot days ahead. If you're in downtown SLO, this place is a must.

Same amazing and delicious food from previous location, lovely new ambiance! We’ll be back soon! We got the chicken empanadas, lomo saltado, and sandwiches. Everything was perfect ❤️

This is THE BEST Peruvian restaurant in the central coast. I had the ceviche and I was blown away. I’ve been all over the US and was raised in Peru, and hands down this place is such a gem in SLO county. It’s definitely a must, specially their imported Peruvian lagers!

Beautiful presentation of a beautiful meal! I have never tried Ceviche, and my mind was blown by all the fresh flavors. I can’t stop thinking about this meal! Friendly and quick service, the owner is very sweet, she spoke with us and the other patio table. We are from KS so this fresh seafood was such a treat. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area!

Delicious flavors and amazing food. We ordered the ceviche and salad with chicken as well as the chicken skewers. The potatos that came with the skewers were one of the favorite things we had! So tasty and soft! The ceviche and salad were both flavorful and really good! Highly recommend this place!

We had a wonderful late afternoon lunch and the food was all delicious! The service was delightful- people who really loved the restaurant- just what you would want in someone who works in hospitality. Had a chance to meet the owner, Catalina, who was preparing all the great dishes. Don't miss it!

New restaurant with fun Peruvian themed murals, big stuffed animal llamas, and delicious food! We had chaufa with chicken and tallarin with chicken, are both were excellent! They were served hot, with yummy flavors including ginger and lime. The chicken was tender and plentiful. We loved the comfort atmosphere and the friendly staff. We met the talented chef and look forward to going back.

We stopped in for an early lunch and were blown away by the quality of the food and the wonderful personable service. We tried the ceviche, beef empanadas and chaufa and all were absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend this restaurant as the food was excellent quality and very reasonably priced with a good size portion.

Found this place on Yelp and glad we stopped by. The food was delicious and delivered if you’re looking for classic lomo saltado. My wife got the combo aji de gallons and lomo saltado and loved it. She paired it with the sangria roja made with chicha morada. We finished it up with the lucuma which is fantastic, taste similar to caramel but with its own flavor. Give it a shot if your around, you won’t be disappointed.

What can I say? One of the best restaurants I've ever experienced. The ambiance was out of the world, it was full of detailed information about Peruvian culture, it had murals and a dance room. The waiter was polite and friendly and the owner was attentive and stopped by to make sure we were happy. I ordered Causa con Lomo, Ceviche, and surprisingly they got Carapulcra and for those who know what dish is this, I have to order it. Everything was delicious, the portions were good and fulfilling compared to other peruvian restaurants I tried in SLO. By the time I realized I didn't take pics at the beginning our dishes were empty and I couldn't take pictures. For dessert, I got ice cream of lucuma and it was a treat. I will definitely come back next time I visit SLO.

I had to try Lomo Saltado and an Inca Kola to gauge and compare my experience and I was blown away by the flavors. My server was Alex and provided some recommendations to raise the spice level to my taste and gave me some rocoto with the warning that it was hot and I’m glad he said that as I was about to pour it over my rice. The music selection paired well with the atmosphere. Chef Catalina came over to ask how my food was and I told her that I would be back! Highly recommend this place if you are in for a treat!!!!

Restaurant is clean, with friendly service, and delicious food. Thank you to the server who patiently explained to us the menu, made some recommendation and was very attentive and friendly. The Chef/ Owner also came out to check on us after they delivered our order. I cannot claim that the food is authentic as I am not an expert on Peruvian food and I think I only had a handful of times that I had their food. But I can attest that the food that we had our all very flavorful, with layers of flavor and textures. Each dish we tried are different in flavor profile as the other. Portions and price are reasonable. We will definitely comeback.

My dad and I stopped in for lunch drawn in by the wonderful aromas wafting out. Once my dad got over the fact that they hadn't yet gotten a liquor license for a pisco sour, we settled in for a wonderful lunch. The food was wonderfully flavored and very tender. The waiter spoke with pride about the new restaurant and the chef's work to open this location. Will definitely be coming back!

We absolutely love Coya! We have been there over 10 times in the past year—half of the time we’ve brought friends to introduce them to the delicious food and the friendly, professional, and relaxed atmosphere. Tonight we had a seafood appetizer served in shells with a small flame in the center. I don’t remember the name of it but it was so savory! Each time we’ve been there, the food has been amazing. We have yet to be disappointed with any of our choices. And whenever they have the Lucuma Ice Cream, we are sure to order that. The Lucuma fruit adds a lovely caramel/butterscotch flavor to the ice cream. We highly recommend! ❤️

Food was fantastic, service was good. For reference it was the day after Christmas and EVERY SINGLE restaurant in town was packed (1-2 hour wait). They told us it would be an hour but seated us at the bar and took great care of us. The staff was super nice and accommodating even though they were very clearly slammed. Had some great chats with them. The ceviche was fantastic and the octopus was cooked perfectly. 11/10 recommended

Perfect place to dine early New Year's Eve. The cerviche was delicious, the pisco reminded us of Lima, and the dinner entrees were awesome. The servers were top notch. My only regret is that we discovered Coya on our last night in SLO. I could have eaten there multiple times. But we'll be back.

Had dinner on Monday night so it was not busy and we got right in. We sat on the patio which is right on the street. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations. We started with the ceviche and I had the paella which was filling and nicely spicy. We had ice cream for dessert which was wonderful and a reason to go back on its own. We will definitely go again as there are some other things on the menu we want to try.

First time having Peruvian food, overall the restaurant is very cute and the food was pretty good. The chicken skewers appetizer was okay, the chicken was kind of dry and very little of it. As well as the Saltado de pollo, I’m pretty sure there’s only 2 small chicken tenderloins in the entire meal. I was disappointed how much tomatoes and onions there were compared to such small amount of chicken. The sauces were delicious, my husband loved the ceviche and the veal shank, the fried rice with beef was delicious too. They seemed to have plenty of meat in those meals and appetizers. For $26, let’s have at least pieces of chicken tenderloins in the meal. The “fries” are roasted potato strips. Our meal with 2 appetizers and 3 entrees with tip was $176. Pricey for what you get imo.

Review: Authentic Peruvian Food in a Great Setting I had a great meal at Coya, a new Peruvian restaurant with a warm inviting atmosphere and a solid selection of traditional dishes. The cute stuffed llamas added to the Peruvian décor that added to the experience. The menu offered a good variety, including ceviche clásico, lomo saltado, and aji de gallina. Each dish was well-prepared and flavorful. The Alfajores for dessert were a nice way to end the meal. Service was friendly and efficient, with staff happy to offer recommendations. The food arrived promptly and was nicely presented. Overall, Coya is a great spot for authentic Peruvian cuisine in a comfortable setting. I will definitely be back soon.

This is my second meal at Coya. The food is good but could be great. Ceviche is high quality but a bit too salty. Cancha is a Peruvian staple cooked/ popped corn that should be an appetizer. Small amount came with ceviche but they wanted to charge $6 for small bowl of more. Empanadas was not cooked through. Filling was good lomo style. Yuca appetizers came after dinner and we’re not cooked fully and we’re not crispy. Chicken dish called Ají de Gallina was we’ll done with right creamy spice. Lomo Saltado Tri tip steak was well balanced. Good quality rice. Seafood Chaufa, a Peruvian fried Rice did not have the authentic seasoning and was soggy. Chica morada, sweet purple corn drink was very good but whipped to level that 2/3 of glass was foam. My last visit we got a seafood stew that had shrimp that were too old. When I gave that feedback it was not taken well. I hope they can improve. I’d like to try it one more time.

I ate at this restaurant today and while I did enjoy the food, for a lunch they charged us $130 for two people! I would say the lower star reviews are more accurate of our experience than the higher reviews. It was so cold and the doors were wide open. It’s winter even if it’s California. We had two drinks two entrees and plantain starters. I really wanted to like this place. Hope this review is helpful.

I stopped in on a Saturday night and there were only a few guests inside. The cashier at the register informed us that the chef "left" and he didn't know why, so were going to have to wait for 20 minutes for the chef to come back. We thought "Okay, maybe we'll just have a drink while we wait". So we were seated in the middle of two very dirty tables and we waited for 15 minutes, nobody showed up to offer water or a drink. We had the feeling that the whole meal was going to be like that so we just walked out without ordering. If there’s no chef to cook and no server to serve, it doesn’t feel like a functioning restaurant.

I guess I'll give this place 1 star even though I've never eaten here? I made reservations online for SATURDAY night 1/3. The reservations were taken, but the place was not open. I saw in some reviews that maybe I should check to make sure they were actually open, but I figured, it's Saturday night, they must be open right? Pretty strange frankly, I mean, who can afford a Higuera St restaurant and not be open on a Saturday night. Maybe I'll try it one day, but I'm sour now

N
Nephi Santos

My experience at this restaurant was awful. They falsely advertise that they are serving a veal shank for the Seco. It was bone in rib. The ceviche was advertised as Halibut on the menu but it tasted like Swai with way too much Garlic. The Aji de Gallina was served cold. The Aji was microwaved and brought back out. Our guest that ate the Aji was prescribed Cipro the following day. Be Careful
