I have been dozens of times and I’ve never had a bad experience. Everyone is always exceptionally helpful and friendly, the food is amazing and the store is always clean. Once I had left my wallet at home right before closing time and the gentleman let me take my burrito home anyways. I went back the next day and paid but that’s how kind they are.

Awesome food selection for just a burrito place. One of the best options for us carb control people! Just as most places in this town, the service depends on the mood of the college kids working at the moment, but I've never had any major issues here, just good consistent food! Highly recommend when you know most sit down restaurants are gonna be packed, or ya want something filling, and quick.
OMG I just went to chipotle for the first time in years because I’ve never been impressed and what a shocker it was bad again! Since my burrito craving wasn’t fulfilled I went to Freebirds a few days later and it was everything I could have hoped for and more, they loaded me up on any ingredient I wanted, was super friendly and had way more options, I believe the girl who helped me was named Chloe. Going here again soon 😇
I was very disappointed at the amount of food they put on the bowl. Chipotle is better hands down! They are not just in taste quantity and quality but the chipotle’s prices are better!

EDIT to previous review: Customer service response to my issues were EXCELLENT and timely. I received a gift card for my troubles and hope to use it again soon for my family. However, we will be going in personally this time and not ordering online for pick up. I think little things (like adding extra lettuce) are what bothered me, since our salads were a bit smaller than they should have been. And I can pick up my own "sides" (salsa) myself. However, I do appreciate the kindness of Freebirds corporate to "make things right", as customer service is their main goal! We will give it another try and I am sure things will go well! Thanks you Adam! ************************************************************************ Original post: Spent almost $100 (ordered online) and my mom picked it up. The super mega burritos were okay, but NO sides came with (as ordered in comments), NO mild sauce (as ordered in comments) and chips were small (ordered a LARGE bag of chips). The salad and bowls were lackluster (half filled), as MORE lettuce (one of our options) could have filled it up a bit more, considering they were around $10 each. I am stunned that I spent this much on food and annoyed that the food is bland, since we dont have any sauce or sides to go with it. Doubtful we will order here again. Money is tight and this was supposed to be a "treat" for my family this weekend.
I love this place :3 the vibe is always great. The food feels fresh, the place is clean, work is fast. Me and my boyfriend go all the time :D ! The only complaint I have is the portions is not consistent. For example, the steak there’s time we get a great amount and other times they serve less than usual even for a Monster that it should have more :,( other than that great!

My partner and I absolutely love Freebirds! Everytime we go we get great service, the workers are always so kind and I love the wide variety they have for filling bowls or burritos, I love adding their grilled veggies and corn salsa to my bowl or burrito! Also their desserts, cookies and brownies, are extremely good! My favorite has to be the brownie, the mix of textures in it is perfect! 😙👌 There's still more I look forward to trying in the future, Freebirds is great! ☺️
I took my friend who happens to be an avid Chipotle lover to Freebirds for the first time ever in San Marcos and his experience was life changing. Not only did he enjoy the food, the good service, and friendly staff, everyone completely made him feel welcomed and even helped make his food choices which isn’t easy as a first timer. I was especially impressed that the Manager on duty, Madison, was so willing to help us as if we were her very own friends. Needless to say, my friend and I have been back 3x this week I think not only because of the good food, but the great staff! I’m also happy that he saw the light and now LOVES Freebirds!!!!!!!!! FYI: I will Also be bringing in another friend to also convert her into a Freebirds lover!
This was my first visit here. We actually ordered the food to go. It was really late but the service was exceptional. I really could not understand the menu and the options available and the guy really took his time to explain everything to me as well as give me some information regarding food allergies that I inquired about. Getting home and finally eating was worth it. I will definitely return when I am passing through San Marcos again.

This location has always been solid, never a bad experience. I've recently become a converted fan to Freebirds from Chipotle ever since they insist on boiling (sous vide) their steak instead of grilling it. I'm even more of a fan after today as I've recently gone vegan and found they now serve Beyond Meat crumbles as an option. The burrito was still very filling and great flavor. No reason to go anywhere else!
One our favorite places to grab a bite with the family. Food is always fresh and tasty! Although we have seen staff change frequently due to being a college town, they are always very friendly and professional.
I loved the customer service, it was actually my first time here & one of the workers helped me pick my order. Im definitely going to choose freebirds over chipotle in the future. Me & my friends enjoyed our food. 10/10

The staff are always friendly and attentive even when they're busy and it looks like they're in the trenches they make sure to make you feel welcomed and heard. Sometimes they're low on meat but as long as it's not unreasonably close to closing they always make sure to make some fresh and have always made sure to have a first come first serve attitude even if the line piles up while you wait they still make sure to get to you as quick as they can and are always extremely curtios and hard working. Definitely one of the best freebirds I've visisted especially for an older looking building!

Service was great and helpful in ensuring we had a good experience and that we were helped. The server we had for today was named Avery as she was helpful and kind to us while we were ordering and paying at the register.

I go here once every 2 weeks and get the nachos. They went up in price🥲 but are worth every penny!!! Amazing portion size. Sometimes the chips can be stale but I don’t even mind. Today they were fresh and crispy and the nachos were better than ever, i luv this place 🫶

Clean and quiet location. Haylee and Evelyn gave quick, kind, and helpful service. Haylee gave great suggestions and we will be coming back because they were so great.

Great place to eat. Only complaint is that no two burritos are alike. Ratios will always skew towards a different ingredient. Always tastes good though.

Avery and Vitor are very hard workers! I went to pickup my order and there a couple people ahead of me in line. You could tell that Avery and Vitor don't just make food- they genuinely care about the customer. The environment was clean and inviting. I enjoyed the music while I waited and I felt comfortable as they completed my order. They were joyful even though I added to my pickup order...great team and I had a wonderful experience. Thank you Avery and Vitor for working tonight and allowing me the privilege to experience what it's like to be in the presence of good humans with phenomenal customer service skills!
I went today- 1/10, and ordered through uber eats, they were out of pork (which was in the bowls i ordered) but were very kind and willing to accommodate for anything else i may want even though it wasn’t a big deal, and even gave me a free side of queso for the inconvenience! I didn’t catch their names but it was a girl with blonde hair and a guy with brown hair who was wearing a chain. 10/10 customer service from these two, and i left with a huge smile from their kindness. To the manager, these two deserve a raise or bonus or something for their above and beyond service and kindness

Kenny was great and very friendly. Hailey was courteous and quick with handling multiple orders at the same time. The people here are great! With proper navigation you can make carnivore work here. Also kids eat free on Saturdays and Sundays. Thats a huge plus.
There were only 2 people working both times i went in today. They were both efficient, friendly and took care of the customers very well. They each took orders, made them and checked the guests out alternately. The drive through and togo/delivery orders were handled also in between guests in the store. It was busy both times i went in to the establishment today. These 2 are both valuable in your business.
Avery was super sweet. I absolutely loved the way she topped my bowl off with like juice. When I said lots of lime juice she definitely delivered. Ate down and didn't play. She was super nice and kind and I think she's really good at what she does. Keep up the work girl!

I liked the food. The chips and queso was pretty good! The burritos are definitely big. The only bad thing that I have to say is that they don't price or label anything as you move through the line. Certain items cost extra to add them to your burrito, but there are no signs or warnings whatsoever. I would recommend getting onto their website and using that as as guide as you build your entree... Which is sad to have to recommend in the first place.
Quite a nice break from Chipotle. They have different kinds of meats and they're not so stingy about how much you put on the burritos. Definitely worth a try! The Verde chicken is fantastic!!

Staff was super friendly & helpful with all my questions. I opted for Tacos instead of a burrito or bowl. The nice girl who helped me explained that the beans were all vegan/vegetarian. I was excited to see they had Beyond 'Meat' (prepared with potatoes) as a filling. No complaints on the taste. I don't mind paying extra for the Beyond Substitute, but there were more potatoes than meat & I felt a little cheated. Just a little! I probably will skip the Beyond Meat on the future if I eat here and just get veggies.
Rice was dry and the black beans were not cooked all the way. To the point of almost in edible. Service was great though. If we hadn't taken our food home we would have brought it back. But this time. But it has been a random issue before.
Only two workers behind the counter. One worker prepping chicken while the other runs around like a chicken helping several customers. This is the second time in six months this has happened DURING LUNCH HOUR ON A SATURDAY. Two employees sitting on their laptop in the lobby. Why are employees on their butts during a major rush is beyond me. We will choose Chipotle or Pollo Rico for Bowls in the future. Service is better and ingredients fresher.
I usually go to the restaurant, but this time I ordered using the app. The tacos don't even resemble what I get when I order in person. The tacos are so skimpy it's almost funny, except it's not. Terrible. Order in person or starve. Update - 6/28....added picture...this is what I got for the same order, in-store.
This review is actually not just for this store, but pretty much all that I have tried. Enjoy the atmosphere and team members are very inviting and nice, but the food I have found at every one of them was extremely salted, don't know if it's the meat, which I've tried all different ones, but always salty, so I have never gone back. This should be a major issue to address, lots of people out there with blood pressure issues that won't be frequenting your stores. Hope this can be addressed across the board, so I can go back some day. Thank you.
I ordered 2 monster burritos and 1 “Freebirds” burrito for takeout expecting them to be around the size of a chipotle burrito (especially for the price). To my surprise the monster burritos were smaller than a freebirds burrito and the “freebirds” burrito was considerably smaller than a typical “freebirds” size. Overall not satisfied with the size of the food for the price I paid.
Monster burrito was mostly rice and beans. A nice offering at Taco Bell for lots less expense. Music was too loud in the store. Workers were efficient and friendly. I won't be back.
Attitude from a girl in teal/blue shirt was unnecessary. Im guessing shes a supervisor/manager (?) I was waiting (to pick up an order for delivery) for a minimum of 20 minutes and when I politely asked another employee how much longer it would take, she made comments saying I acted like I'd been waiting long and that it was too busy. I understand she might have been tired but thats no excuse for the rude unprofessionalism. After the order was finally ready, she placed the order on the counter without saying anything. She just walked off. Terrible attitude towards customers. Otherwise, other employees seemed friendly.
Seems like the quality and quantity of food served has diminished. Ordered a monster bowl and seemed to recieve less than I did ordering a regular bowl a year ago. Food quality was sub par and mushy. Spent a little over $30 for chips, drink, monster bowl and salsa... Left hungry. I do eat a lot and that used to be the reason to go. Service was ok, staff wasnt really friendly or spiteful just very middle ground and doing their job. Probably wont be returning. Price isnt worth it, can purchase twice as much chipotle for the same price.
The lack of staffing at this location is an issue that needs to be urgently addressed by management. Went in at lunch time (12PM) to find a huge line and only 2 employees in the store. One working web orders and another trying their best to manage the line. Steak that was put in my boyfriend’s burrito was partially raw in some spots (An issue I see mentioned in a previous review). Given Freebirds is not a steak restaurant, not really sure if it’s been cooked long enough to not make him sick. Asked for double meat on both my burritos and did not receive it. You might be thinking, why didn’t I ask them to put more? BECAUSE I AM NOT MAKING AN EMPLOYEES DAY HARDER WHEN THEIR MANAGEMENT IS CLEARLY MAKING IT HARD ENOUGH FOR THEM. Fix it.
This might have been the worst Freebird’s location and experience I’ve been to / had. I placed my order on the app. Shortly after I decided to call to make sure they put the sour cream inside and not on the side (and the hot sauces on the side). It went to the automation and then it seemed like they picked up and hung up. I was unsure if it was an accident so called back again. Same thing. Okay, well maybe they’re super busy and it’s hard to talk on the phone. I got to the drive-in window (there weren’t many people there), waited and then finally a dude came up and asked my name. I told him. I didn’t WANT to assume the sour cream would be in there and sauce on side but…I assumed. And you know what they say about assuming. Lol. I drove off and when I got back, checked. No hot sauce in there. No napkins. Bit into my burrito, no sour cream. Glad I paid almost a dollar more for that! And the burrito was pretty sloppily put together. I’ve had Freebird’s a bunch over the years (but not in San Marcos)- definitely worst burrito they gave me.
Please read all the other negative reviews; they are true! This is the worst location. The portions are small, the prices are way overpriced, the customer service is terrible, and no one answers the phone. Save your money and time and go elsewhere.
I ordered online and came to pick up my food but they didn't even acknowledge me standing there. They went through every single customer in line before they helped me, even though all they had to do was ask what my name was, grab it and give it to me. It was sitting there already paid for. I know it's the lunch rush but I ordered online to save time and might as well have gotten in line because it would have been faster.
Ordered a Monster bowl via DoorDash. I didnt order lime on it and the entire bowl tasted like lime was poured all over it. Plus it upset my stomach if you know what I mean… Never getting food here again.
Guy asked for our online order names and then disappeared waited 30 minutes before going inside to check on food
Placed an online order, got to the place 20 minutes after, and then waited an extra 30 minutes in the drive thru. Don’t even bother
They charged me $21 dollars for a burrito and a drink , my friends were charged $11 dollars for a burrito and drink.
Ordered through app and went to pick up and one of the food items wasn’t ready when promised, which caused the other meal to become soggy. Got home and they gave me someone else’s food order and I had missing food items. Called and no one answered so I left a message and emailed through their “contact us.” Next day called again with no answer so I had to call another phone number and they said to email bc “phone isn’t working” which I did and have no heard anything back. Food is already expensive and I expect to get what I paid for.
Unfortunately, our 11:30 pick up order was not ready until 11:50. That’s twenty minutes too late. Pretty disappointed, because they have always had my order ready on time. I even got there five minutes later then usual and it was not ready. Not sure what happened in the kitchen to fall behind. Hopefully they’ll recalculate the incident and move forward with a better solution next time.
I ordered online for curbside pickup. My husband went to pick up the order & when he asked for the extra queso I ordered, yall charged him more money for something i already paid for. The app specially states nachos come with 2 scoops of queso on the side, if you would like extras please order below. I did just did. This isnt the 1st time this has happened to us. I just think it's pretty messed up to double charge someone for something they already ordered.
Ordered doordash here and my dasher was at the restaurant for more than 15 minutes with the store not even busy. The employees were apparently doing closing duties early rather than helping people at the counter. the food wasn’t even that good either, chipotle is definitely better. also those plastic bowls suck.
I always enjoy the food here but my one star is the new containers...they are plastic and feel like I am eating way less. I'm hoping it's the same size but man it does not feel like it compared to the original compostable bowls. That's where my one star is coming from....
I ordered 4 tacos today and received a burrito. The burrito was very soggy and falling apart when I unwrapped it at home, less than 5 min after I picked it up from the restaurant. I ordered a cherry coke on the app, they told me they were out. I asked for a coke. The employee left and came back and said they were out. I asked for a Dr Pepper and they did have that, but when I got home I took a drink of my soda and it has almost no syrup in it. Which has happened the last 3 times I have ordered from this location. I called to see if I could get the order fixed and they never answered the phone. I called 4 times. I then called the corporate number and there was no answer there as well. Unfortunately driving back to the location was not an option for me. I am very frustrated and disheartened by this experience.
Stopped in to grab a bowl for lunch. I saw few of my co-workers eating there. I waited forever to be helped. I ordered the small bowl. It was very apparent that they are being forced to give people small portion. I could see the business plan on a poster, it was in plane site. I added extra steak and he added one small scoop. I asked for guacamole, same one small scoop.It was ridiculous. Get to the register and it is a $16.00 small lunch bowl. Dont forget the tip. I think the owners and managers have forgotten something. If you dont have customers, you dont have a business. People dont like being ripped off,and they definitely won't be back to be ripped off again.I feel bad for your employees. You hide behind them to skimp people while you worry about making max profits. I had a talk with my guys who were there eating lunch when we got back to work and asked how their food was. Every one of them was charged 17 to 20 dollars for a burrito. They too said its obvious that the portions had gotten smaller, and was way overpriced for a lunch. So,that makes four people that won't be going back.
The place was dead when I went in. A few people sitting down eating, but nobody was waiting in line. I went to order and two of the workers were too busy gossiping to help me so I waited for another worker who was at the register to walk across their station to come and take my order. Despite the fact that I saw them make the order right in front of me, the veggie bowl I ordered was cold and honestly quite gross as a result. The other Freebirds I’ve been to are great, but this location was pretty bad.
Placed an online order. When I arrived 30-40mins after. My order hadn’t even been started. I checked in and lady said my food will be ready soon. She had the other lady making all the orders. She just sat there and waited to check out orders. When they finally completed orders. She stood around then the other lady answer the phone and she still was standing around. The lady on the phone had to tell her to make my order. I placed my order online so that when I arrived it’d be ready. I’m cool with waiting, but not for another 30mins. I like free birds, but probably won’t back for a while
The food was all so bland. Rice had zero flavor, beans had zero flavor, chicken had zero flavor. Ordered salsa on my bowl and it arrived with no salsa at all. Arrived cold and soggy but I’m sure that was because I had it delivered which was my bad. Lesson learned.
