THIS PLACE IS BOMB. They cut the meat fresh right in front of you and they don't skimp out. I got the Big Kahuna and was so well fed.
Huge sandwiches with fresh bread, ingredients, and fresh cut meats. I've driven past this place several times, but I'm glad I finally stopped in for lunch. I'll be back regularly!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5 stars I waltzed in here about 10 minutes before closing without even realizing it. Didn’t check Google—was driving and not about to multitask. I walk in thinking, why is this place so empty? Turns out… yeah, they were about to close. Ordered a #15 on rye with regular mayo, regular mustard, chipotle mayo, tons of jalapeños and pickles, plus lettuce, tomato, and onion. Grabbed a small water too. I’m the type of guy who still asks, “Hey, is it cool if I eat here?” even when I don’t need to. They told me, very chill, “We’re closing in five minutes.” I immediately apologized and let them know I used to work in a kitchen—I get it. No drama at all. Took the sandwich to my car and ate it there. And man… I don’t throw this around lightly. I’m not saying it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever had—but it’s absolutely up there. This place deserves to be on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy… Fieri… Ferrari… whatever his name is. You know the guy. If you’re anywhere in North County San Diego, it’s worth the drive. Honestly, even if you’re visiting from elsewhere in California and happen to be nearby, this place is worth stopping for. Outstanding sandwich, great attitude, zero stress. Much love. 10 out of 10. 5 out of 5. Would absolutely recommend.
This is one of the best sandwich shops that offers 35+ different sandwiches and combos on their menu board. They have a variety of different breads, including squaw which is harder to find. They have standard vegetable selection but also have sprouts which are not usually offered! They slice their meat and cheese fresh from the case when you order. They offer a limited selection of drinks, but lots of chips, and the good Dirty Chips brand too! Wonderful place, go and support a family owned business!
I was delightfully pleased with the level of efficiency and courtesy of the staff at Sub-marine. As soon as I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, the place was nice and tidy, patrons were enjoying their sandwiches at some of the tables inside. The staff behind the big counter were ready to make my sandwich after I looked over their big menu of sandwich choices. Everything looked clean, stocked, and good! I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and recommend this place to any sandwich lovers. They have great portion sizes for all!
Great menu, combos, and food! Service is way better than chain restaurants...and they have soup too. Epic

I really love this place! The staff are always super friendly, and the atmosphere feels very cozy when you walk in to the shop! The sandwiches are always fresh, and they use top notch ingredients! They also have the freshest bread around!! So if you want a delicious sandwich, come here!
This is a wonderful, family-owned deli. The sandwiches are literally the best deli-style sandwiches I have ever had! The prices are great, the service is fast, the ingredients are fresh, and the service is fantastic. I have never had a single poor experience. Since this place is close to my office, I have to resist the temptation to eat their sandwiches every day! lol!
The people were so nice and helpful. Their menu takes up the whole wall, yet they talked me through it. They have Squaw bread which I love and I had a turkey sandwich with avocado. It was so good! Highly recommend this place.

The sandwiches are well priced, filling and fresh.It's a local spot that's clean, family run and puts the customers first. Ruth and her family have done a great job of preserving this place, all while remembering the names of her loyal customers.
Sandwiches are big, good value. I got a 9” Turkey avocado and cheese on brown bread. It tasted great. Great choices for toppings. Check them out.

They offer 3 lengths of sandwich and seemingly endless variety. Loyalty cards are no longer issued but I have a few more punches to go on mine which they still honor. Edit to add: I appreciate the owners fast response, going over my receipt with me and refunding me for the over charge on 1 drink - Thank you I really want to love this place, as it's a local mom n pop shop and convenient for sandwiches, however, this is the second time in the last 3 months we have been overcharged. Today I ordered a "lite lunch" 3" Tuna which includes a drink. I also ordered a 6" Ham and cheese combo- I ordered an extra bag of chips to complete both meals and was charged for 2 drinks + a medium combo. In short, I was charged for an extra drink at 2.90 The last time we came, we ordered 1 Meatball, 2 ham n cheeses, and made 2 a combo. All sandwiches were 6", however we were charged 2 combos and 2 drinks. Either combo only means chips, which is 4.85 for a bag, or we are getting double charged for drinks.

They are definitely one of those places that you assume they are closed and it’s a happy surprise when they are open, so call first every time before you make the drive. Few blocks away from my husband's office. Convenient. Walking distance. Very good sandwiches! Both my husband and I had #30 it was pretty good. We will return to enjoy another sandwich there. I like how the meats are cut in front of you. So fresh! So good! Yummy!
Went here to get my go to Albacore tuna, they don't have Albacore, just tuna or Chicken salad. I ordered a #20 Roast beef & Turkey w/ med. fountain drink, $20. French bread, yep everything is expensive. This shouldn't be. They put my mayo & mustard only on top and very sparingly. Teaspoon of each maybe little more on a 9". Ate some of my dry sandwich, ask for mayo and mustard got cheap First street packets from Smart & Final. Mayo was almost as yellow as mustard. Bottom line you want to support/ make wealthy, a Mom & Pop shop? It is... not a franchise. They don't adhere to what a franchise is known for, consistency!! They can buy pretty much whatever they want to use and sell. I won't ever go back. Just me support and reward what you want.

A small business that understands the meaning of working households charging this much for sandwiches? The absolute audacity. Nothing but the best, guys, but that’s just not realistic in my world.

2/5/2026 Been going here for years and We go out of our way all the time to go to this location because it is good. Hours say they are open at 10am. We were there and the open sign turned on. Opened door, locked, looked in and employees made eye contact. Waited until almost 10:30 for the door to open and nothing, just left. It is fine if short staffed or arrived late, however put a note on the door or at least acknowledge the customer outside. Bad taste in our mouth now and won’t be back.
