Some of the best Thai I've ever had. Don't let the semi-divey exterior deter you. Do yourself a favor and skip downtown Thai spots and hit Charm up instead. So so good.
Yummy rich and moist thai food. Their traditional dishes like pad thai, pad kee mao and pad see ew are delicious! Enjoy their delicious Thai iced tea as well!
Best Thai food in town. Pad see ew, pumpkin curry, and Pa Ram (vegetables with peanut sauce - ask for extra peanut sauce) are all great.
Pad Kee Mao was so good! Love that their kitchen accommodates gluten-free folks.
Favorite Thai restaurant in the Peninsula. Great service, food, and drinks. Can't go wrong with Charm Thai. Be sure to try their papaya salad. It's delicious.
This is a real gem.. The food is amazing, very authentic and delicious. The green curry is insanely good! It's also reasonably priced, around 10$ for a main course.
We walked for 20mins to find this place to then only discover they are closed for dining in, take away only. We ordered and OMG, it’s incredible. I had the crab Phad Thai, get it, you won’t regret it.
The food was amazing! The seasoning was delicate, fresh, light. The service was attentive and incredibly reactive. The restaurant itself is very cute and clean on the inside! This place will not disappoint!
I had the chicken fried rice dish, I usually add the hot paste spicy! Loved and enjoyed my meal here, I definitely highly recommend it.
Very flavorful food at good price. You get your usual dishes in addition to some that you won't find at other restaurants. The restaurant is small so get ready to get cozy!
BEST Thai food I've had in years! So fresh and tasty. Can't wait to go back!
One of the best Thai places around. Salmon rolls are a must have, Tom Yup soup is really good, so are their noodle entries.
Food is really amazing. Their roti with green curry and fried icecream are a must try. One of the best thai places in bay area!!
Had the pad Thai, which was very tasty. One of the better Thai places I have been to on the peninsula.
Had the curry chicken (yellow). Delicious was perfectly spiced. Also hd the pad Thai, some of the best pad Thai I ever had. Little spendy but what isn't in the Bay. Worth it.
Have been eating Thai food for over 10 years and this place is the absolute best. My wife hated Thai food after I took her to the wrong place but Charm Thai Eatery made her a fan of Thai cuisine. The pumpkin curry is the best (spicy level 3) my only criticism could be the pad Thai it definitely needs for peanut sauce. If you get it on the side that charge you like it is a whole other plate.
Their sauces are really good. Anything with their yellow curry and seafood tastes great! Crab fried rice was a little soggy but still a good eat. Their roti with condensed milk could be more crispy but overall a good eat
Came here on a weekday with my boyfriend for dinner. Small space but cute and cozy decor. I can see it getting busy on the weekends but we didn't have to wait on a weekday. Easy street parking (2 hr available and side street parking). We both ordered the crab pad thai and it was delicious. Prices are quite good for the area with generous portions. Will be back again!
What a charming Thai restaurants. Parking is not so fun...drive around the neighborhood area and make sure to check signs for parking limits. The space is small, so get a reservation if you can. They have a good selection on their menu -- a must is the garlic fish...so good!!! How do you judge a Thai restaurant? By their pad thai -- they passed (I've been to a restaurant or two that didn't make it well). The food was delicious and tasted authentic.
My wife and I get take-out here on a monthly cadence, and it's always great. The Pad Thai, the Larb, and Tom Yum, and the chicken satay are favourites of ours. The spice level isn't ALWAYS super consistent (i.e. a spice level 2 can blow your head off one time, and on others a spice level 3 can leave you wanting more heat) ... But honestly that mystery is part of the appeal.
So cal lovers of Thai food.. look no further! This is a taste of home! Thai food is my favorite and since I've moved to the bay area, I've been trying to find a place that makes their food like LA and OC. This is hands down the PLACE! So delicious and comforting. This will be my new spot from now on! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Yum! I'm a big fan of Thai food and visited Charm Tai Eatery over the weekend. I was very impressed with the flavors. Ordered the Roti with Green Curry and Spring Rolls for an appetizer—the green curry was incredible. My dinner was their Red Curry with Tofu. While I'm not ever a big fan of peppers in curries, the curry itself was spot on. My boyfriend had the Sweet and Sour Tofu and his mom had the Thai Chow Mein—they were both satisfied. Also, there was a revolving door of take out orders and that's always a good sign to me. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes.
Great food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Will be coming back again and again! My gf and I ordered shrimp rolls, a bowl of tom kha (MUST TRY) and pad thai. Everything was tasty and we were stuffed.
When you order the vegetarian version of a dish (red curry in my case) not only do you get tofu but also extra veggies that aren't even in the dishes description! What a fantastic inclusion. Flavor of mine and my friends dishes were fantastic. FYI no beer or alcohol available.
The staff here was very friendly and helpful toward our group which included three people with food allergies. They had no problem answering questions about ingredients in menu items and had no qualms making modifications for us! The food was delicious and came out quickly from the kitchen.
This place is amazing! Super delicious food. If you want a little spice, go 1 or zero ...or else LOL! Very well priced. Will miss this place when I move off the Penninsula. My only goal is not eating there every night of the week. Basically. Eat. Here!
I've been here a couple times and the things I've liked so far have been the spring rolls, Thai curry, Thai fried rice (delicious) and the samosas. Looking forward to returning someday.
Love the Thai food here. Everything we've gotten has been solid. Some favs are crab pad Thai, pad see ew, pad kee Mao, crab fried rice, papaya salad, and the roti prata with green curry.
Our go-to Thai restaurant! Been going for years and still one of our favorites. Like the gra pow with pork and the fresh rolls the most!
Charming little local Thai place with mouthwatering dishes, reasonable prices, and clean decor. Parking might be limited or inconvenient on El Camino or a neighboring street. We love their Pra Gow: slightly spicy and full of savory goodness with lots of peppers and bamboo shoots
Amazing food & excellent customer service!! The owner is so friendly & kind. Food is always good quality! My go-to when I’m craving Thai food! Totally recommend this place!
This is our favorite Thai restaurant in San Mateo. The food is so good, every single time. We usually order via Uber eats but it’s really nice to dine in too. It’s never overly crowded and the service is great.
Delicious! Maybe the best Thai food I've ever had. Start with fresh rolls, crispy treats with a peanut sauce. Then had fried rice with chicken, and prig king with chicken. All tasty, fresh, spicy but toned down per our request and just right. I had to make myself stop eating to avoid feeling stuffed. Small but clean restaurant, worth the visit. Moderate prices.
I just stopped by this place yesterday on my way for lunch and ordered veg pad see ew it was very yummy 😋 I hight recommend it small and adorable cute little place
Pad Thai and beef noodle soup were very flavorful and tasty! I'll definitely be back.
My friends and I stopped by this place after a hike and were hungry! We saw good reviews so we came in here, knowing that good Thai places are hard to find. We were pleasantly surprised! Everything we got was delicious and that's always a good sign. It's a small, cozy place with street parking off of the main road. It's a little out of our way, but hoping to make it back soon!
Yum!!! Love the fish special. Green curry appetizer is good, Tom yum soup is good, paw see ew with beef also yummy. Generally I have liked all the dishes here. The servers are really nice and friendly, very welcoming. The place is pretty small so had to wait a little bit to get seated. Also people are walking in and out and not closing the door all the way, so avoid sitting near the door on a chilly night.
Best Thai food I have ever had! Super delicious! My go to is pad Thai with chicken and the spicy noodle soup! Could eat this every day
Friendly staff. Clean and cozy environment. Very good food all around. the Curry's, fried stuff, noodle dishes. This is def my local Thai spot. Been here 5 times so far.
So glad this place opened. The yellow curry is the best I've had. My gf got the pad thai and thought it was amazing. Both dishes came with more than enough food. I ordered it for take-out and the wait staff was really nice while I was waiting. Definitely look forward to eating here again.
Best Thai Food in San Mateo. Amazing Curries, Pad Thai, Pad Ki Mao, Soups and everything else is just superb. Authentic flavours. Choice of spice levels are bonus. We have turned our normal Thursdays in to Thai Thursdays perpetually. 👍👍👍
This place was really good! The food was excellent and surprisingly filling, especially for the portion sizes. The interior decor created a very nice charm to it, connecting to the name of the restaurant. Despite being small, there was still room for my family and myself. The food was expertly made and it was really good. This place definitely does deserves their five stars.
It's my favorite restaurant in the bay area. :) Service is a bit slow, but super polite. The food though, is the best I have had from any restaurant. Idk if this is authentic Thai or not, but whatever they serve up tastes absolutely Godly. Definitely try this if you are undecided.
This is a wonderful, friendly place with great food. It's a go-to lunch spot for folks in our office. Food is always fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. Lots for vegetarians and omnivores alike to love. Lunches come with a salad (which is good but could use a dressing that is more definitively Thai) and either a spring roll or roti, and rice. Service is attentive and warm. Really glad to have this place nearby.
Just found these folks, as I was going to go to Mr. Pickles but they ignored me when I stepped in, and these folks were welcoming with good customer service. Ordered the Pad Thai and Pineapple fried rice. Very tasty, good quality decent quantity. Will be back.
This restaurant is a gem. The food was some of the best Thai food I've ever had, The staff is warm and genuinely interested in customers' comfort and positive experience. The prices were more than fair. Simply great food and a family run business that treats the customer with respect and appreciation. Though I don't live in the area, I will definitely be back whenever I pass through San Mateo.
The food was SO yummy!! I highly recommend the Pad Thai, and the Pad Broccoli, both so delicious. The staff was super kind and helpful as well. The interior is pretty cute, small, and cozy, most people order takeout. Really good overall, will definitely be coming back!
Great find super close to work! The curry definitely had a good amount of flavor. The staff was friendly and fast to make sure and check on us that we had everything. If you come here for lunch make sure to get here before 1140, or else it will be certain that we have
Charm! Where have you been my whole life! By fast the best Thai restaurant on the peninsula! I wish I could've given 10! Everything we ate was super tasty. Service and ambience was also friendly and warm.
I get a little jaded with the Asian restaurant scene down the Peninsula. There's only so many chinese-run teriyaki places, pho every pho blocks (sorry,) and don't get me started on chinese restaurants. So when we went to Charm Thai I was hoping it'll be different. It was totally unexpected. It's not in downtown SM where Asian places almost outnumber Asian customers(jk). It's on ECR halfway between downtown and 92 almost next door to Mickey D's. We were a party of 8 which allowed us to order more food, and variety. Started with the chicken wings-crunchy, hot, with a little sweet sauce... Gimme a couple of orders and rice and I'm good for dinner, but that's just the beginning. We had larb- lime-tangy, crunchy veggies, it's really good. Then the food started coming out - pad Thai, pad se-ew, green chicken curry, pineapple fried rice. Moat places skimp on the black bean with pad se-ew but Charm Thai nails it. The curry had enough spice and creaminess to be interesting without calling SMFD. Maybe the most impressive is the Garlic Fish-pieces of sole deep fried crunchy and hot, fish is flaky moist and tender. Change my order to the fish AND chicken wings with the rice and I'm good for dinner! The place is kinda small but food comes quick and their quality is spot on. The staff is friendly, they keep the water coming...but splurge and try the lychee ice tea. A bit sweet but nothing some water won't fix, but if the curry's a bit hot you'll be happy you did. Great stuff Charm Thai, we'll be back!I
It's pretty close to the food I grew up eating. They serve authentic Thai dishes with personal spins that caters well to most palettes. It can get pretty busy so sometimes you have to call out for service, but they do pretty well considering. I was in and out within 30 minutes for lunch. Definitely worth coming back to
Only to go now, my fav thai place in the area Gotta try their garlic fish, so good! Also curry roti and tom yum soup Pad thai is good, but pa se we better!

Hidden gem -+ great food! Love the noodle dishes and the salads.
Delicious food and great service! Staff was very friendly and attentive. We got the FF (fried chicken over fried rice), the pad see ew, and the pad Thai. The pad see ew had a bit of a smoky flavor that I wasn’t used to but absolutely loved - would def recommend. The fried chicken had a deliciously crispy breading and the meat itself was super tender and juicy. The friend rice was delicious as well. Seems like a great family place, I would definitely go again.
Ordered here for the first time and the food was amazing. Best Thai food i have had in years! Everything was fresh and delicious. I had the spring rolls and Prig king. Both were excellent. I highly recommend eating here!
It's a small restaurant in San Mateo on the El Camino Real. There was 14 of us they accommodated us on a long table. The food was absolutely delicious and was served fast and hot. Their prices were very reasonable. Definitely a great dinner to welcome the new year. We'll definitely be back.

Decent price and decent Thai food. I have enjoyed their pad see ew and the vegetables were very fresh and spiciness was just right.
Food is just great . We ordered sea food fried rice and yellow curry both were delicious. They might have forgotten the rice which we expected to be there with yellow curry order.
Pretty decent Thai food, particularly the pad kee mao. The salmon special was also good, but very salty about 1/3 of the way through.
One of my go-to's for thai food at the peninsula. Be careful of their spice level, it is not the Americanized scale where "level 5" is really a "level 2" at best for those who grow up in South East Asia.
Tiny little place with good food. Call before you get there to check how busy they are, coz the place is "Tiny". Also if you are ordering soup, mention beforehand if you don't want onions, coz that could be the major part of soup otherwise.
Good Thai food with excellent lunch prices. I can recommend the Pad Se Ew. The spot is small and fairly quaint.
This is absolutely the best spot for Thai food in San Mateo. The food was really affordable, however, the portions were slightly underwhelming. I'm guessing that was because we decided to order to-go during the Covid-19 crisis. We ordered the Pad See Ew, crab fried rice, Tom Kha soup, Pad broccoli. The food was really flavorful and wasn't too salty or oily.
One of the best Thai restaurants in the area. Moo Krapow is tasty. We ordered some dishes NO spicy and less spicy but it came as regular order. I would have given it 5 stars if they it was less spicy as requested. We tried ordering via online and the phone it still came out too spicy @ lvl 1/5 It felt like a 3. I cannot imagine what 5 would be... beware if you can’t take the heat!
Today was my third order in 2 months. The quality and consistency is great! Their potstickers prawns in a blanket and pad Thai are amazing!
Food was ok. I havent eaten a lot of Thai food. Soup was not hot when served and weird tasting. Fish fillet was on the salty side. Pad se ew noodle was all broken.
The best Thai food we have experienced so far! We come here once a month or so and the food never disappoints. I just wish they opened a bit earlier on weekends for early dinner or late lunch pick-ups. Because they are very popular, I also hope they will use more compostable or recyclable packages.
Went for a quick dinner with a friend and the place was ok. The portions are very generous, the food is pretty good, served hot, and the portions are quite nice. However, it's pretty generic and nothing really stood out. So, good for your casual thai fare, not really a hole in the wall with one or two specialties that really stand out.
UPDATE (06/23): I always have to order (2) of their fried "Prawns in a Blanket" so light & crispy. ➕their dipping sauce is sweet & spicy. [6pcs in an order. My friend eats 1 order all to himself!] Portions are generous if not, then fair. The soups are great. The curries are great! Tried Red & Yellow. Can't comment on the green curry. Soup🍲: I especially like Tom Kha Gaa! Everything is darn tasty! As per usual, they are accommodating to any requests or allergies! Their is a ramp from sidewalk to window for Wheelchairs. **As of today 06/14/2023 they are still "Take Out Only" or Delivery. No indoor dining yet.
This is a solid restaurant. They have all of the Thai-American classics, such as curries, rice dishes, and noodle soups. My biggest complaint is that the spicy food is not spicy enough. This is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a sensibly priced, decently large, and fair-tasting meal.
Cute little Thai restaurant in San Mateo. Food is decent with plenty of traditional dishes to choose from. However, since it’s located on the busy El Camino Real, parking can be a real challenge. Fast and friendly service.
I ordered some Thai food for delivery. I was really disappointed when my food was delivered to me it was someone else’s food. I was really craving pad Thai and so I ended up placing another order. The pad Thai was average but the pad se-ew was pretty good. The spicy noodle soup was ok. I just wish they gave me more soup. When I dumped the noodles into the soup, it was definitely not enough. My noodle soup ended up not being a soup at all.
I had their Pad Se-Ew! Tastes like homemade goodness - not too oily or heavy. Loved the mix of flavors with chicken, egg, carrots, and broccoli.
Love secret menu; keto padthai with satay. It's a satay with steamed vegetables fresh sprouts and basil lime and vinegar. All the good stuff. No starch and heavy sauce.

Very good yellow curry and chicken satay only down side is most thai places serve rice w a main dish we had to purchase that separate. For 2 Currys one rice one satay spent $50
Very good Thai food, but the service was only mediocre. It took a bit too long to get our servers attention and then a couple of reminders to get all of the dishes that we ordered. Parking is also a bit of a chore, but I can't fault them for that.
Love the food and enjoy it quite often, BUT today I had a piece broken plate (porcelain) in my egg roll!! about an 1.5” sharp piece! When I called, I received a mild apology and a promise to get the egg roll free next time I order. Am I going to order again?!? Not at all sure! Be careful! I am lucky my teeth didn’t break or that I didn’t swallow it
Decent food with decent prices. Red curry didn't come with rice which surprised me but was nice as a soup, I suppose.
Edit: Came here 08-13-24, updating experience to 3 star. Ordered the sweet sole lunch special which comes with rice and a salad. Total around $18 after tax/tip. It tasted good but I was very disappointed in the portion size. It's one little fried filet. Their profit margins on this one must be insane. Please be a bit more generous with your portion size - most people order a lunch special thinking they are going to get a better value; this really wasn't the case. Original review: Came here yesterday for a work lunch. We were on a time crunch and we let them know. All our dishes came out quickly and were DELICIOUS! I got a seafood stir fry that was amazing, with fresh scallops, mussels, fish. My coworkers got fried fish which was perfectly cooked. Service was outstanding - very attentive. We are already talking about going back!
The food is not bad, but not the best pad thai I have had... barely tasted peanuts even with peanuts in it and crushed peanuts on the side. Spice level 3/5 is pretty hot. I like spicy food too so I'm not too worried about that, but I honestly was expecting a little less heat than that. The noodles were a little over cooked as well. Chicken was perfectly cooked, bean sprouts gave a nice crunch, and the flavor wasn't too shabby. I did ask for no tofu, and there was 1 chunk of it in my dish. Didn't like biting that on accident. Edit: $17.50 was too much for this pad thai.
Good food, terrible service. The place was nearly empty, but the waitstaff seemed more interested in takeout customers. Our water glasses were all empty, we had to get up twice to get the bill taken care of. We got dessert, but they never took away our main dishes. Gratuity was included for our group of five.
We got there around 5:00 pm and ordered crispy calamari, pineapple fried rice, Pad Thai, and a sweet and sour. The calamari was nice and crispy, and the pineapple fried rice was really tasty. The Pad Thai was my favorite. Overall, the food was really good and definitely worth trying.
Very standard Thai fare. My friend and I shared chicken pad thai and beef pad see ew. I'd give 4 stars for my pad see ew but the pad thai tasted a lot like it had much ketchup in it hence the 3 star review. Probably will give them another try. Update: We tried their fried rice and green curry with chicken. Green curry was very good while the fried rice didn’t have much toppings/ingredients. Solid experience again.
Pad see ewe with beef is $2 extra but the beef is a littler chewy. The portion is on the small side Street parking

Fried tofu was watery, cold and gross. The pad Thai had no flavor. I ordered delivery and it came without utensils
For vegetarian: Never order fried rice here expecting tofu and no eggs. Everytime I put order for Thai or Spicy fried rice with tofu and vegetables and also put 'No Eggs No Meat please', they've added eggs in it. I'm very disappointed by this. Please go for thai iced tea and green curry though. They're are good.
Edit: very disappointing service - we ordered a pad Thai, but didn't get it for 30 mins and when asked about it the server went to the kitchen and served us a pad thai in another 5 mins, but without any explanation or apology. They definitely got the order and that is why they knew it was shrimp and chicken pad Thai. The food was prepared in a hurry and not tasted good.
Feeling very ripped off. I usually reserve one star reserves for sanitation issues or horrendous service but this place's "food" is just laughable. The Tom yum soup tasted like ketchup water with a splash of lemon. And look at the mango sticky rice they sell for $6. When I saw the 1/6 slice of mango I thought it was a joke.
I had a very bad experience yesterday. After taking howe two orders of prawn pad thai, I found that the shrimp were spoiled and thus inedible. I immediately took them back and since the door was now locked, I banged on it till I was admitted at 3:05, 5 minutes past afternoon closing. I explained the problem and requested that the food be replaced. I was told that it was not possible because they were closed. I did get a refund but I'm not confident that I will be returning there.
this is single handedly the worst thai fried rice I've ever had the misfortune of ordering. I ordered spice level 4 out of 5 and there was NO spice, or flavoring whatsoever, in this rice. It felt like I was eating hospital food. Every bite into those raw, rock hard carrots broke my heart. $17.25 for this abomination. At least uber eats gave me a refund.

I recently ate here. What a disappointing experience. The soup was cold, with raw onions and uncooked mushrooms. The pineapple fried rice with added prawns was flavorless and also a disappointment. There was only one couple in the restaurant, but the phone was being busily answered by the one waiter on staff. We waited 45 minutes before our food arrived, with the exception of the terrible and cold soup, while orders for pick up were being efficiently managed. Maybe this was an off night, but it was certainly my last. Sad, because I used to love this restaurant.
