We went there for lunch all the time. The serving portion is large and tasty. We ordered Broccoli with Chicken and Orange Chicken, both came with steam rice and hot and sour soup. The service is friendely and excellent. It's a small business but they work hard for it.

This restaurant is the best Chinese restaurant EVER!!! The waitresses are very nice and we've been here so many times since the food is AMAZING, we have a long history together :). 100/10 would easily recommend.

Ordered catering for 24 people within 48 hours. Staff was super helpful and understanding for late pickup. Lady on the phone gave us a discount for bulk ordering and a crispy eggplant dish for free (which I’d order again). Portion sizes were huge and food was delicious.

Great food, fresh, hot, and not too salty. We dined in, there were only two ladies handling the dining room, walk ins, pick ups and door dash but we still received great service. I am grateful to know we have an authentic Chinese spot around the corner.

I've been coming to Fortune Star for 20+ years! The menus changed slightly over time, but its still owned by the kindest, most down to earth family I've had the pleasure of knowing my entire life! They serve delicious, authentic, Chinese food! Their Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings are out of this world. Their hot & sour soup always warms the soul! But my go-to is the Veg Chow Fun & Chicken with String Beans. If you're looking for your new favorite Chinese food restaurant, look no further!!!

I absolutely love this restaurant. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Very authentic and tasty! Bbq pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, dumplings, sizzling rice soup or hot and sour soup, along with their walnut shrimp are just a few of my musts when I go there.

Fortune Star has been our "go to" place for delicious Chinese food for more than 10 years. Owners and staff are friendly, helpful and do a great job. Food is terrific, prices very reasonable. Favorites: lemon chicken, kung pao chicken, hot & sour soup, egg roles... and almost everything else on the menu!

Been coming here for years and the same family still owns the place. Food is excellent as usual, very reasonably priced and atmosphere is great! Saw at least 5 groups order takeout too while I was here for Chinese New year dinner. One of the better Chinese places in San Mateo without having to go all the way to Millbrae and eat at a banquet style restaurant (coming from a Chinese person). Also easy parking on 25th Ave 👍👍

So disappointing the first time back but read on! This was my favorite pre Pandemic Chinese food that has become terrible. So sad. The fish was so old in our Hong Kong chow Mein. May give one more chance before never returning. Well they did great the next time thank God. I had the salt and pepper prawns. Yum yum. My wife loved her meal as well.

Great place if you're looking for family chinese food, I got their shrimp chow mein and orange chicken, the orange chicken was awesome (one of the best I've tried) and the chow mein was very good too, everything was well seasoned. The staff is not very friendly, they'll just ask what you want and that's it, but I think it's because they're always rushed lol

The staff is not very friendly, they'll just ask what you want and that's it, but I think it's because they're always rushed lol

Chicken was cooked but more the tough stringy bits versus nice big cubes of white breast meat as I prefer for Orange chicken and similar dishes. Not awful but wasn't exactly what I wanted. Would give it another try of in town and didn't have other options pressing but doubt I'd go out of my way to do so.

I had food ordered on Doordash and Fortune Star insists you include rice on every item you buy. I thought that was strange. I ended up paying 101.00 on food through Doordash and most of the food that showed up was rice and hardly any Chinese food. I now have a pound of rice since I bought multiple items and the amount of Chinese food is minimal. Another way to screw over your customers. Never AGain.

Appetizers terrible. We were refunded but I still feel an obligation to warn folks. The main dish was edible but within a short drive from San Francisco I expect asian cuisine to be at least good. I'm speechless. So I'll stop. Advice: don't believe the ratings. The place was empty but it was around 5pm ( early).

I thought I let you know that this place was good but they demand a tip…be ware! At the time of payment, I was using my credit card and didn’t add a tip because I always leave a cash tip. I had just finished signing my name on the receipt when the Asian man (round face/bald) behind the counter reached over and pulled the receipt from the me, looked at the receipt and said “ you need to add a tip!”, “How come your not adding a tip?” I was confused and shocked at his aggression and explained to him that I wasn’t planning on adding a credit card tip because I was leaving a cash tip, I pointed to the table we were sitting at and I motioned my husband to show the cash we had already set aside and left on the table. That’s when the man said, “okay” and nodded his head. It was awkward to say the least, so walked over to the table to go get the cash to hand to him. This was inappropriate and sharing my experience with you as an FYI. Tips are NOT REQUIRED but earned in my opinion.
