Went here with my dad after a long drive up from Southern California. Perfect way to end the night, we got their classic 2 person course which came with rice, salad, miso soup, and a variety of meats and vegetables to grill. It was delicious all around and will definitely be back to try some of their other items.
Great experience! The meat was fresh and delicious. We went early on Sunday and it was quiet enough for walk-ins. Just a heads-up for families: they only have booster chairs, no high chairs. The safety belt on the booster only secures it to the restaurant chair, so it is not the safest option to babies. I’d recommend bringing your own stroller into the restaurant if your baby cannot sit up well.
We brought a party of five here for a birthday and the staff was so pleasant. Changed our grills regularly, kept our water and tea filled. And gave us an extra something for the birthday boy to make them feel special. Don't forget to redeem your promotional codes in the Gyu Kaku app, if you've got one.
Came here for dinner on a weeknight, when we entered the manager Austin greeted us in a welcomed manner and took his time to explain the menu to us. All the staff provided excellent customer service and suggested the cooking times for the various cuts. Everything that came out was fresh and tasty. The vent system was top notch, loved not smelling like bbq after the meal. Definitely coming back to this place again!! They also have a great happy hour too!
*"An authentic and delicious Korean BBQ experience"* I just visited this Korean BBQ restaurant and it was amazing! The food was authentic and delicious, with a variety of options for all tastes. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and lively. I loved the quality of the meat, which was tender and juicy. The side dishes were fresh and flavorful, and the homemade soy sauce was a special touch. *Best:* - Authentic and delicious food - Friendly and attentive service
Props to the staff who was very kind and helpful to our group. We informed her we are new to this resto so we asked for her suggestions, the menu and quantity of our orders. She was attentive to our group, gave tips on how to grill to perfection and made sure we were enjoying the moment which we did. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience ❤️
Super busy, very popular. Awesome food. Cook it yourself at the table. Great quality meats and Japanese style side dishes. Small portions and delicious! Update: Went again without a reservation Friday night around 11pm and were able to get a cozy little booth all to ourselves. "Happy Hour" this time. Highly recommend the house Sake.. It's smooth, sweet and milky white. Delish! We ordered the Shoyu Prime beef, Pork Belly and Chicken all perfectly sliced, served to our table and ready to cook. Excellent Second Experience! Third visit was better than the others. We tackled the Meatlovers Combo for two. A plethora of meats to make your mouth water. As well as; Garlic noodles, salad, soup and Green Tea ice cream! Pics to prove!

Food is raw (obviously) and great quality, definitely a 5 star. Atmosphere however could be better, specifically the music did not match the environment, it was up-beat and more suitable for a bar, not a restaurant. And one suggestion for the owner. Despite great food, I felt the food containers did not quite deliver it. Color of the dishes varied between white and black and did not match, I specifically got disappointed for the color of the tea cups. Tea is dark, cup was black as well, I'd prefer contrast in this case. Otherwise all was good, especiallly the staff regularly changed the cooking mesh on the stove, it was amazing.
Gyu-Kaku is a fairly famous and old chain that interestingly I've been to the old Burlingame location, Tokyo location, the Cupertino location and the San Mateo location. It's Japanese BBQ so most stuff are more marinated and sweeter than a typical Korean BBQ. I like that there are a lot of choices to choose from which is very different from what I'd normally order in Korean BBQ. Most orders are small which is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because you get to order a lot of different dishes. A curse because it's never enough. In any case because the meats are usually very marinated so you are eating not just the meat but also the sauce which an be good and bad same time. Good because they can be flavorful bad because the sauce can overpower the meat. I also like the service because they change the grille often and are attentive. The place can be crowded but all tables are separated from others. I don't have any particular favorite but do like some of the more expensive cuts. Order the combos if you can be you get to try different cuts.
Overall good experience, only thing bad was the service. Had to order things more than once on pretty much everything we ordered. We also got stuff we didn’t order but we just ate it anyways because most of it was pretty tasty. The meat cuts were good and not stingy. Other bbqs like this are usually stingy with the meat. Not this place. Good decent sized cuts. It might be small portion but it’s unlimited, who cares. I felt like most of the options for the basic tier unlimited should be removed because they aren’t good. Like the seaweed salad. Not good or not fresh or something. Need to add kimchi in basic tier.
We got the happy hour set and the total bill not including tips was about $95. For the amount of food we got, it was definitely not worth the price. It was tasty and the DIY cooking factor helped us slow down with eating and we were surprisingly full at the end. It was hard to flag down servers to change our grill or turn down the heat so there was quite a bit of burnt bits on our meat so a lot of that wasn't edible. Out of all the meats, the pesto chicken was as dry as a leather bag. I am glad to try out this place but most likely not returning.
Busy location. Made appointment, and got seated very fast after arrival. The hosts(or the manger) seems very motivated and passionate about the job so he made the whole experience more enjoyable to the customers. The server seems a little bit burnt out and frustrated but she still offered standard service. On the food side, I really like their combo, it’s perfect and convenient for people who don’t know what to order since they have relatively big menu. Update: it’s not hygienic to put tongs on table. Service was not as attentive as it used to be.
Worst service ever. We waited 30 minutes just to start the fire, then waited forever for our food. The food was good, but the service was absolutely terrible. One of the staff (A girl) asked twice if my friends had left so they could give our table to someone else while we were still eating. They checked on every other table except ours and just gave us side eyes. Totally disrespectful and unprofessional. Never coming back again. We got there in Oct 6 ( Monday ) around 6pm.
