Stopped by early Sunday morning for a black sesame latte and matcha mochi cake - both were fantastic! The line looked long but moved surprisingly fast, and the staff kept things flowing smoothly. The mochi cake was perfectly chewy and not too sweet, paired beautifully with the nutty richness of the sesame latte. Got it all to go and was back on the road in no time. Fair warning: street parking is a bit of an adventure, but totally worth it. Pro tip: Mention this review for extra free smiles from the team! 😊
This was my first time trying this coffee shop. It was around 9 AM on a Saturday morning. There was about 15 people in line when I walked up. I would consider this pretty busy as it took about 20 minutes to get my drink. The staff was very friendly, efficient and full of smiles. They only allow six people in line on the inside at a time and everyone else has to wait outside until the line moves forward. I ordered the MISO caramel latte ($7) with oat milk for $.50 more to be safe with dairy. The drink was delicious as many others have noted, and I would definitely get that again. I also want to try some of the other popular options, including black, sesame and Ube for next time. They also serve a variety of food which looked appetizing. Inside is a bit small with limited seating but it’s cute to stay for a bit if there’s space. Overall, I would say this place is worth trying for their specialty coffees for special occasions, but not a regular daily coffee joint.
I love this place!!! The service is amazing. Every coffee is made to perfection from the temperature to the roast. Come early as this place is very welcoming but it can be busy quick. You’ll want to sit here and take in ambiance.
This is exactly the type of specialty coffee shop I was hoping to find, today was the day. I am Asian American. I wanted coffee that reflected my culture in their drinks, such as sesame and ube etc. Today I went to Kaizen & Coffee for the first time and ordered a black sesame latte, I loved it. The shop just felt right, from the decor to the staff to their menu of delicious Asian fusion coffee. My wife and I also met the owner Jason, who gave us a quick education on the various blends of coffee, in particular to the taste that we were looking for. I have finally found a place that meets my coffee needs. 👍🏼
Great coffee with nice and accommodating barista's. Definitely not the place to vibe, mostly ment for a place to get a great cup and leave. The chairs are not the greatest, plus the place is awfully cramped. Definitely not the place to do your work or chill at for anything longer than thirty minutes.
Today was my last day working in San Mateo/living in the Bay and of course I had to come by for coffee and matcha. I have been coming here 2-4 times a month since they opened and will truly miss this place! The service, friendly staff, and high quality drinks really stand out and make this place my favorite coffee shop in the bay. I’m sad to say goodbye!
Drinks and pastries are delicious and hit the spot. Just wished they had a better pickup process after ordering in-store. The place was packed with no seating available, people standing around waiting for their orders. It would be nice for them to have an order display showing customers when order is ready and visible signage where to pickup. I waited for 15 min to get order. Besides this, the place does get busy with lines going outside, and parking is not good.
Total Score: 9.650 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Not only is the place clean but the decor is too. Everything in the coffee making area was shiny and everything was clean black. Could not describe it any other way. But makes it a bit boring me thinks. Food: 5/5 Got the Tahitian vanilla bean and it was perfect balance of sweet and espresso. Also the pastry was p decent too. Bit sticky but expected ig. Wow: 1/1 This was the most performative coffee place ever. Like I everybody here looked so performative and the decor was so performative. No other way to describe this. Also I shat so much after this so I know the coffee is real. Total Score = 3.5*AM + 6*FOOD + 0.5*WOW
This coffee spot is just a gem! Its always busy but very much worth it. The miso caramel coffee is the best coffee to try here!!! If you want a snack I would recommend the avocado toast, salmon toast or the morning bun. All great tasting food! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming.
Trending little spot. Gets very busy at times. Nice drinks overall, mocha is a bit too sweet too me. They use Dandelion chocolate from San Francisco for mocha which is a great plus.
Absolutely fantastic Japanese style cafe. Everything is expensive, but definitely worth it. The avocado toast was delicious, and I'm still thinking about the caramel miso latte weeks later! The various pourovers and extensive bean collection for sale are also a highlight. If you're a fan of great coffee you have to visit.
Went on a Saturday afternoon when it was pretty busy and there was a line out the door. They limit the number of people in line inside the store, which helps it not feel too crowded or chaotic. The line moved pretty quickly too. I ordered the Tahitian vanilla latte and the Okinawan brown sugar latte, standard ice and sugar for both. They were both super tasty! There are a few tables inside, along with bar seating. Even though there were a lot of people ordering, most got it to go so there were a decent amount of open seats. They also had anime playing on a TV near the line which was a nice touch :)
Wow! I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time and it definitely lived up to my expectations. The service was amazing shoutout to the cashier (I didn’t catch her name) who was super helpful, even spoke Spanish, and kindly guided us through the menu. We ordered two cappuccinos and a ham and cheese croissant. The coffee was well-balanced and flavorful. I really enjoyed the cappuccino. The place is aesthetically pleasing with plenty of seating, though it’s best suited for individuals or pairs larger groups might find it a bit tricky. I also noticed they have matcha drinks on the menu, and a lot of people seemed to be ordering them. I’m definitely coming back to try one next!
Great coffee roastead all over the world. Extremelly well served. Order the single origin pour over or espresso, they will always surprise you. You can drink here or buy coffee supplies for your home. Bring someone or come alone, you are gonna enjoy both.
Super yummy! Got a really good strawberry matcha and even better avocado toast. Theres limited seating but still a nice place to come with a friend. Recommend!
I really enjoyed my Friday morning visit around 10 a.m. There was about a 5-minute wait, a short line, and all the chairs were taken, lots of people standing around and the space was loud and crowded. I was meeting a friend, and even in the bustle we were able to have a wonderful conversation. By about 10:30, the crowd thinned out, and we found a table to enjoy not just our conversation but also some delicious coffee. She ordered a flat white and loved it, saying it had a caramel-like taste. I had the Tahitian vanilla latte with oat milk (so good!) and an avocado toast. Next time, I’ll definitely order the avocado toast with an egg and try the miso latte the barista recommended. The café has seating for maybe 15–20 people, either individually or paired up. Overall, a great spot, I’ll definitely be back!
Matcha latte is so good! Black sesame latte was also good. They have the most delicious pastries. You can’t go wrong with this place. Love this coffee shop!

Cannot express how joyful this coffee house is. The team, the selection, and the care of service is top notch. Wonderful offerings of unique roasters from near and far, many of which you can't pick up anywhere else, physically. The shop is small, so seating is limited and not ideal for dependable meet up spots / work, but I rarely go in for either of those things. I just really like their single origin espresso, Mission Mocha, and the brilliant conversations I can have with folks behind the counter and sometimes among fellow shop goers. Of my 10+ years of coffee profession, this is one of the highlights for so many reasons. If you're in the area or near by, you absolutely must go.
A small coffee shop, specialising in various types of lattes coffee, like miso caramel or tahitian .Has taste different from Starbucks or local coffee and is light.Good for a change. Has also toast and pastries.Quite busy and popular among local customers.

Probably one of the most modern looking street coffee shops I’ve ever been inside. The displays of coffee beans look nice, the menu looks nice, the tables and chairs are nice, the lights look nice, they even have real plants for decor. Everything is clean and they make do with the little room they have. That definitely gets some points from me. The only thing I was confused about was the anime portion, as it only took up a small part of the store (the TV streaming anime and the anime decal in the window, that’s it) and didn’t really match the aesthetic. But it was still pretty cool. Me and my brother shared a hot chocolate and it was disappointing for both of us. We prefer sweet hot chocolate over tart and tangy hot chocolate. However, my sister loved her drink, and I have to admit both drinks were presented nicely. I think they tried drawing a panda in our hot chocolate. Speaking of the baristas, they were very nice and greeted us as we walked through the door. Overall, great atmosphere, great service, and while I didn’t like my drink, the rest of my family enjoyed theirs. 4/5.
I always love supporting small businesses, but I was a bit disappointed this time. My coffee cup was almost half full, even though I specifically asked for no room for milk. I understand leaving a bit of space, but this was definitely too much. That said, the coffee itself tasted great, no complaints on flavor.
Friendly service with unique menu. Ordered the sesame latte, but it had a strange off-putting aftertaste. Pastries looked good, but I didn't get a chance to try them. Would recommend trying this place at least once, since it's pretty popular.

Long line at 9:30am on a Saturday. Only 6 people line inside allowed. Decor is clean and neat I got the black sesame latte which didn’t taste much like black sesame as I had imagined it would. The PJ and Banana was 3x4 grid of thinly sliced banana on thicker toast with spicy honey syrup.
