This place is great. The boats are small and fast (mostly 6 or 8 divers per boat.) The dive masters let you dive all your air, not ending the dive because one person ran out. The boat captains and the dive masters are very friendly and helpful. The food at the shop is delicous (the chicken pasta is amazing as are the chimichangas.) They also have a very cute dog. I would definitely dive with them again.

My husband Clyde first met Mike in 1991 through a mutual friend and hit it off immediately. Clyde has owned several dive shops in Texas and started taking divers to Cozumel in the 1980s. Since meeting Mike and Margaret he has not dived with any other operators on the island. The staff, along with Mike and Maggie are like family. Clyde has never had a complaint from any divers he has taken to Papa Hogs in 30 years.... that should say everything. I am a novice diver and feel comfortable with the divemasters and crew.

Love this place! We dove here both times my family came to Cozumel. The dive guides and boat drivers we had were friendly and communicated with us very well. The owners of the store had great communication and were extremely kind and accommodating. We will definitely dive with them next time we come to Cozumel!

Love, Love, Love Papa Hogs. Great for advanced or beginning divers and they really do a good job of grouping divers together. They always pick us up at the dock of our hotel and return us there. Knowledgeable dive guides with great attitudes! We won't dive with anyone else when we come to Cozumel.

I have been going to Papa Hogs Scuba for over 30 years. Not just for the Diving, but for the people. The owners are the managers and ensure hospitality. I even did my honeymoon there and I hope to do my next one too. Also, they have a local hotel, restaurant and some of the best Deep Sea Fishing.

This was the first time diving in Cozumel Mike and Margaret were simply awesome to deal with. Our dives were well organized and everything went so smoothly. We were new to diving so she made sure we were paired properly with other divers. Every morning and lunch we went to the Hog Town Cafe. It was very reasonable and we were always happily greeted by Fernando. It was so convenient to have a nice breakfast, walk next door to dive and then have an awesome lunch right afterward. You won’t be disappointed.

An outstanding dive shop in a crowded marketplace. Tony "No Bologna" is the best dive guide I've come across in nearly two dozen trips over the past few years. Extremely patient, quick to adjust based on conditions and diver capabilities, knows where everyone is at every moment, and knows the reefs in Cozumel like the back of his hand. And an awesome personality to boot. We made 13 dives over several days and all were awesome. Margaret and Mike have worked hard to make Papa Hogs an inviting place on the surface as well as the best operator in Cozumel. Highly recommended.

My wife, 18 year old son and I dove with Papa Hog's in April 2022. It was a great experience. Before we went, I asked the local dive shop owner who we should use in Cozumel. He pointed me to Papa Hog's and told me they are the best. Our experience with them made me believe his is right. It was easy to schedule the dive and set up just what we wanted. My wife had a bad experience in her last ocean dive before this one, and Tony our dive master was very good at helping her feel comfortable. She had a great time. It was my 18 year old son's first ocean dive, and he had a great experience with Papa Hog's. He's excited about getting back in the sea to keep diving. Overall it was a really good experience and I'd point any of my friends to them as a great dive outfit in Cozumel.

I found them through a Google search and am so glad I did. A great dive outfit, they put safety first, are friendly and the whole establishment has a welcoming and fun atmosphere. They have a cafe as part of the shop which does amazing food for breakfast and lunch and great drinks. The boat captains and dive masters were excellent and the shop communicated well in my pre-arrival emails. Don’t be concerned about getting a COVID test they can assist you with that. I highly recommend them and will be back.

Not only that, Margaret from Papa Hogs saved my family vacation after a bad Airbnb experience when she recommended excellent accommodations. What a great place. Mike and Margaret and all the rest of the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. This is where we come to dive when we are in Cozumel. Their boats are fast and the morning dives get out early, you can be finishing your first dive when other boats are just arriving out on the reef. The staff was always friendly and always making conversation with my dive group. They worked with me as a first time boat diver, and I soon learned their routines which made each dive prep easier than the last. They always took us to the locations we wanted to dive if we requested any. They also knew exactly where to take us for dives we would find the most exciting when we ran out of our own preferences. I could easily tell that the staff loved their work and took pride in showing others the beauty of their island. The only issue I had was, unfortunately, consistent day to day. Many of the tanks leaked at varying rates. The O-rings needed to be changed out more often prior to loading the tanks onto the boat, but they did switch out the O-rings when necessary after a leak was noted. Sometimes it was possible to just maneuver the O-ring to provided at least a better seal, but it was still often that I would see divers’ tanks bubbling during the dives. However, these were rental tanks that are heavily used, so I do not expect them to be perfect by any means. Even as a newer diver, I did not have too much trouble making up for the leaks with more conscientious control over my air consumption in order to let time rather than air pressure be the limit to my dives. My experience with Papa Hog’s was wonderful, and I definitely see myself working with them again in the future!

I honestly was not a fan of Papa hogs. It's literally the only scuba company I've used that doesn't offer fresh fruit or something after your dives or between. They don't like to set up your gear and tank for you and after three days of diving you are tired and want to be pampered a little bit on your dive vacation.. All other dive trips I've taken all over the Caribbean have done this for you. Be prepared to log around your weights, your gear. Bring your own snacks and extra energy to set up own tank etc. I would rather pay a little more for a nicer dive boat etc. Tons of smoke from boat. Tank holders are worn out and barely hold tanks... Crowded boat. A tank actually shot out and could have hit the diver on the boat.. There's just too much competition on the island as far as dive company's to go with the bare minimum as far as service.

Really kind wait staff, especially Fernando, and excellent breakfast special but the owner is quite rude and disrespectful. I bought breakfast and lunch there so I could work remote and had a wonderful visit the first time, but the second time, the owner gruffly started yelling at me that he was closing at 5 at 4:30. I paid my bill and used the bathroom and he started pounding on the door (which was humiliating because it was like him timing me while charging a tampon.) I went by there hours later and he was still there; I'm not sure why he needed me to leave that very second. I was quiet all day, compared to the drunk tourists who screamed at sports games (I'm a local.) I asked another local about it and he referred to the owner as "El Diablo" and is this cruel often. Apparently he bought the place decades ago, will not speak Spanish, and doesn't care about customer service because so many people who pass through are tourists. I feel bad for the staff. Free popcorn though.

This was our third time diving with papa hogs and we were very disappointed. We had a new diver with us and our dive master Eric was very impatient, not very friendly, We were bummed he didn’t make the experience better! The male owner of the dive shop was not friendly and treated us poorly. He was short with us and could care less we were there. If it weren’t for the restaurant server Fernando we wouldn’t have given any stars. The mahi tacos and mahi fajitas were amazing!!! He was also very friendly and welcoming! Thank you Fernando

I do not understand all the 5 star reviews at all. Teetering on 3 stars. I did a shore dive with them explaining that I had never done one and had not been diving in almost 3 years and was looking for help. They sent us across the street and the employee sat on the dock ignoring us. Upon returning Margaret informed me that my tank was connected incorrectly with the valve pointing in the wrong direction "but you made it work"... The employee that was with us at the dock saw us and gave us additional weight and diver buoy and not once did he say anything about our tanks. Margaret also informed us that the surf was rough and a shore dives are much harder than boat dives. My leg was all scratched up since it was so difficult to get out of the water. I was also put off by how even the employee in back with the BCD's and weights was rude to Margaret and myself when I simply asked how much weight I used so I could make notes for the future. Margaret and Mike seem to be very nice people but this was not at all a good experience and I will not be going back.

Avoid this place. They do not give what they offer. At the moment we hire them they offered to take us to El Cielo beach for snorkeling. Then once we arrived there, they told us that weather conditions did not allow us to go there. At our return to the pier, we learned that other boats were going to “El Cielo” which they mentioned was not possible because of the weather. Then we were told that the boat we were on did not have the permit to go to “El Cielo” and that this is the real reason we did not go. We feel like we were deceived and that they were not clear or honest with us nor did they give us what we wanted, paid for and they offered us when we hired their services. This is why we are leaving this review to share our experience with others and they know what to expect from you (including you don’t offer food like other diving services in Cozumel) and will choose a company that actually offers what it is supposed to. We have been coming to Cozumel for the past 25 years and this has been the less recommendable service.

Requested weeks before arrival, that we wanted a bigger boat and a fresh water tank on the boat to dive with a new wet lense, along with other camera equipment. Got there boat was extremely small and water bucket had masks in it. Mask came off on second dive, so had to stop at surface to put it back on and next thing I know my head hits the boat and my entire body is inches away from the propeller as the boat speeds off without looking that there was a diver still at the surface. Not the mention that my 2 dive buddies and I deco on the 1st dive and I had both my dive computers sounding alarms. Hard to come up to a safer depth on ur own when u r drift diving. I also fell off boat back into the water after I had come up and was trying to walk back to drop the tank in the hole, one person moves on the boat and u can find ur self in the water. I was told it was my fault for not taking my BCV off in the water first, but not one person took their BCV off in the water, not one! Small operator...been diving for 25 years, never came across an unsafe operator like this outfit! Good riddens!

Rude boat owner, acts like he wants to fight you if you have any disagreement. Hit and miss on dive masters some are good others have no business taking customers out. Use another operator this circus isn’t worth your money. Suggestion deep exposure for technical and rec or paradise for just rec.
