We'd read plenty of bad Google reviews relating to both food and service. I have no idea what the problem is. We arrived and were greeted with smiles. The place was packed and we were quickly seated without a wait. Drinks came and our food came just 6 minutes after we ordered. Chrystal was our server and she'd repeatedly asked patrons in passing at each table if they'd needed anything. I'd give high grades to both service with a smile and the tasty food. **Spoke with Chrystal and she said the poor reviews were probatbly old and due mostly to a disgruntled employee who has since been let go.**
Halfway house cafe is a staple of the breakfast cafes in the Santa Clarita valley. I absolutely recommend going in for breakfast, and enjoying the food and hospitality. The server we had was awesome, she was quick knew what she was doing, and very friendly. The cooks made all of our food exactly to order, and it was delicious. The menu also had everything you could want at breakfast.
We try to get to the halfway house at least once a week. The food is always good. The coffee is always good. The service stellar. We feel like family. I do suggest calling ahead in case they are closed for filming.
Absolutely delicious breakfast! Eggs Benedict was perfect. The people that waited on us were so cheerful and friendly. They were also quite helpful with a modification to my breakfast. We will definitely go again.
So cute. Good food.
Loved the location and the atmosphere of this place. The food was delicious as well. Found this place randomly just driving around, and I'm glad I did cause I'll most definitely be going back.
My first experience with the halfway house was a little over 3 years ago, the man who is now my fiancé and I met there for a quick breakfast... The food is good and the variety ample, breakfast or lunch any time! Sally and Bob & the entire staff are so much fun. We love it!!
Club sandwich was great! The service is awesome and the history of the place is input.
I really loved this place it was present even with covid and eating out side there making it the same as much as possible the food was really the best I've had in years and to top it like ice cream on cake the price surprisingly inexpensive. I would definitely recommend this place for hometown atmosphere and cookery.. A+
I always love the Halfway House Cafe. I always order the big breakfast plate with a pancake and biscuits and gravy. The gravy is a bit bland, but once you smash an egg yolk on it, who cares!
Fun, little local place rich in history! Many TV shows, movies and commercials have included this spot in their films, even Top Gun Maverick! Inside, one TV continously runs examples! Food is great and service staff even better, a must stop!
Great place to stop and have a hearty breakfast or lunch. They have limited hours so call ahead to make sure they are open. One cool thing about this place is that they rent the place out to the film industry so you may have seen it in countless films. I know that it was in Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood. Can't remember all of the films but I will tell you that the list goes on for days and just keeps growing. Once you see the character here, you will understand why it is in such great demand. Enjoy!
Service was super fast and attentive. On top of that no wait on a Sunday at 9am! It was great. Food was just as comforting and good as I remember from 10 years ago. Prices are perfect!
Good ol Americana food in a great historical (if not, should be!) diner that could double for a handful of diners straight out of a Twilight Zone episode! Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Reasonable $. Check first before going to make sure Hollywood isn't filming & it's open to the public
Emily was an excellent server. They all greeted us. What an amazing find!!!! Food is delicious, hot & tasty. Going back for more.
A great little diner! Great people and food!
We love going here! We are locals, so we bring family and friends here from out of town quite often. We love the atmosphere, the staff is always friendly and cheerful. The food is consistently yummy! I love the Eggs Florentine. Only thing I would suggest is adding a veggie burger to the menu, that would make me very happy!
If you have never been to Halfway House, it is definitely a must. We have been coming here for over 20 years and it is a staple in the Santa Clarita Valley. Their breakfasts are the best. Today I got the Chicken Fried Steak with 2 eggs, country potatoes and sourdough toast. The portions are huge and the food is the best with wonderful flavor. Hubby got the omelet with bacon and sausage, also country potatoes and biscuits and gravy. He enjoyed it. My one son got the chorizo and eggs that comes with tortilla, rice and beans. My other son got the French toast with two eggs. We all devoured our comfort food. While I didn't get it this time, I usually get their Eggs Benedict which is the best around. Emily was our server, and shout out to her! She is awesome. Also, it is fun to watch the TV with all the clips of the shows filmed here. What an amazing history and most of all, what amazing food that keeps us coming back!
We love this place , one day long ago a friend wanted to meet for lunch and said “ I know a yummy little place “ we met there and ever since this place is a treat. I drive from encino ( San Fernando valley ) all the way out with friends to have the atmosphere , friendly service and excellent food !!! I have enjoyed this place since 2006 on a monthly basis. Keep doing it strong Halfway house and we will keep coming out !!! I don’t have to rave about any particular dish because every time I try something different and as always they deliver strong. Thank you for your service !!!
You have a really nice little restaurant, a welcoming and nice staff, we met nice local people, and we ate the best breakfasts ever ! I'm from Canada, and we came about two weeks ago, my girlfriend, me, her daughter and her husband. I'll keep good memories of Halfway House Cafe ! I talked with one of your employees outside, I don't remember his name, sorry. This guy was so sympathetic, and all of you ! Finally....I'm so happy, why ? Because I ate my first typical American breakfast ! 👍😋🥩🍳🍞☕ Long live for you all and your restaurant ! 💖☀️😎🏜
Unique place with great history and classic cafe food. Service has a local feel which adds to it's individuality. Great burgers, sandwiches and fried onions zucchini and green beans. Also any breakfast item is delicious
This is one of my favorite restaurants when I'm in town. Service is good and the food is superb. You can't beat the atmosphere;i t's just a fun place
Our go to breakfast spot. Family favorite all around. Recommend going very early, because they always have a full house. Great food and great atmosphere, wonderful service that makes you feel right at home.
Extremely cool and off the beaten path (or heavily beaten in the past) breakfast place. Yes, it's famous for a Pepsi commercial from the 80s or 90s, but inside this place is just super cool.... lots of decoration and the tables have ads from sponsors (genius idea, let the sponsors cover the cost of the new table). Breakfast was surprisingly REALLY good, I'd say in the top 5 in the SCV along with egg plantation and egg n things. Coffee was light to medium roast, closer to medium, but not full bodied medium. Service was super bubbly and attentive. Parking lot is dirt so your car may get a little dusty while parked, but it makes for a more legit, real experience. You'll feel like you've gone back 100 years when you park and eat here.
This is a favorite place. Food is always wonderful. The staff is very friendly, and makes you feel at home. I've enjoyed both breakfast and lunches here. It's fun to try and list all the movies and commercials that have been filmed here. Worst part, is we don't get to see Sally (the owner) as often as we used to! 😁
Weekends until about 11am it can be really busy and you might have to wait for a table, wait for drinks, food, check etc, especially if a large group comes in. I don't know why people do that; the restaurant is small, it's not that kind of place. But I digress. Food is always good, service is always good. They remember you after a few visits and I love that. Great atmosphere overall.
Love this place!!! I've been coming here since I was in high school. Once I met my husband, I started bringing him here. Now he loves it too. It has become our Sunday morning tradition. The waitresses are always so nice and happy to serve you. 💕💖💕
Finally made the drive here on sierra hwy. The front of the cafe been filmed in every venue on the planet. The old time gas station next door the same filmed in everything. Fact is there is a vw bus up on a rack and I know I saw this just recently on tv. The cafe inside is just awesome and been filmed as well. Ordered two milkshakes to go and apple pie. They were closing at 3 pm. Just darling inside. Must go back for the food.
We’ve driven past this place a number of times but never before at meal time. This time, we had a terrific breakfast and would go back because of the food but we would definitely go back because of the server. Ali was absolutely inspiring. A lovely young lady who is capable but more importantly, is a motivated and hard working, quality person. She works weekends and Mondays and it’s worth it to go just to meet her.
I like to ride my motorcycle here from my home in Lakeview Terrace. Up the Little Tujunga Canyon road, Sand Canyon to Sierra Highway. Food here is really good. I generally have breakfast because it's served all day. Chicken fried steak and eggs with cottage fries and biscuits and gravy will top you off till the next day. Friendly staff makes it even more enjoyable.
Quintessential roadside diner with really tasty food & super friendly service!
I had a pretty good pastrami sandwich. The server was amazing. Pulling up, the place looks like it hasn't changed since it opened. Then you walk inside and every square inch of the walls is covered in the corniest, tackiest "live laugh love" gift shop gobbledygook and they're playing obscure daytime television talkshows at max volume. The vibe is weird. But the food and the service is good enough that I'm for sure going back.
The lovely server made sure to stay open for us even though we got there right at closing. She said, "We're cleaning up but happy to serve you." We ordered a BLT - wow, was there ever a lot of "B" on that sandwich! This is a perfect old style diner/cafe complete with counter seating if you so desire (our favorite perch at diners). We're enroute from Long Beach to drive US Highway 6 which took us through a tangle of LA suburbs and downtown. It was a relief to get into this rolling ranch country just east of Santa Clarita.
Very cool local vibe Cafe on the road, just what you would want and expect from a this sort of place, really liked it.
Stopped by for breakfast a few months ago and service and food was great!! My waitress was kidnapped and a Sherriff tried to stop it but they got away. SWAT arrived but too late.... saw SWAT episode, reminded me to leave the review. First part is true, second part is part of the episode s7e8
Always a great time at halfway house! The staff are friendly, and the food is good and reasonably priced. The coffee is excellent!
This place is historic and great to visit a least one time on your life! Recommend Food it’s ok No fantastic Just decent for visit! Clean and prices are fair! You need to stop by definitely if you are in town!!
Old nostalgic times atmosphere and feels great eating at a very famous place like this, friendly service make it even better.
Great spot for casual dining. Looks like it's fresh out of roadhouse, no wonder it's a popular filming location. Staff is super friendly and fun, everyone should experience this gem
Okay, from the outside this place looks like a dump. All the signage is very old and faded, it doesn't even look like it's open. But walk inside, and it's very cheery, the waitress was so sweet, and the food was good too. On the menu was listed many of the TV shows and movies, etc. where this restaurant has been filmed. I haven't searched yet to see if there are any listings beyond the 2017 on this list. When driving the 14 freeway North I don't really think about what's out there, so it was eye-opening to take Sierra Hwy, Sand Canyon, and some of the other little places off the freeway.
The food was yummy. Great customer service. About 10 min wait time. Freshly squeezed OJ. Loved the interior of it. It really takes you back to the 1900s.
Just like in the movies As a German, I always dreamed of visiting a diner just like the ones you see in the movies. Like that scene in Top Gun: Maverick when Tom Cruise parachutes into the diner — that’s exactly the vibe! I absolutely love this place. It has incredible flair, great service, amazing food — just all-around fantastic! Exactly what my movie buff heart was looking for!
I really enjoyed myself eating breakfast here today. The food is amazing and everyone here is super friendly! I had The Halfway House Super Breakfast and I got more than my fill. For my beverages I had a large orange juice and ice water. I highly recommend stopping by or going out of your way to eat here.
If you have not stopped at this hidden gem, you are missing out. Forget the big restaurant chains. You want a great delicious breakfast. This is your spot. The atmosphere is quiet and clean. The waitresses are so friendly make you feel like you've been going there for years. The food is so good, but their coffee is addictive lol trust me when I say I have never had such delicious coffee . I have to control myself from not having more than I should. Their restrooms are clean and there are plenty of parking outside. This has become are go to breakfast spot. The inside has plenty of seating, and the neat thing is that this gem has been in movies, shows, and commercials.
I love this original iconic restaurant. So many filming has been done here. It’s one of its kind restaurant with vintage signs throughout that will make you smile or laugh. We came here less than a month ago on a Monday morning. It was somewhat busy, our waitress was really nice and attentive. Good service. Good Coffee and the food was good. My husband ordered the steak and it was tender and juicy. I ordered the polish sausage, but would definitely come back and order the steak instead..
Halfway house is my (now 10 year old) son's annual request for our birthday breakfast together. We enjoy the food, talking with the staff, and chuckling about the signs on the walls. I do come at other times and always have a great experience, but I especially appreciate the staff making my son feel special on his birthday. (Photos from 2 years ago)
I haven't been here for many years and was with a friend who wanted the Monte Cristo sandwich so we stopped on our way home and I'm so glad I did. The waitress couldn't have been any better. She was super attentive and helpful. Our food was excellent. The atmosphere was also nice. There are sarcastic signs posted all over the cafe and I just loved them Definitely would recommend this iconic America cafe to anyone in the area who enjoys a great meal

Excellent service.Great people.Great food, perfect price.Great setting history is amazing.Enjoyed it, as always don't change y'all.
My hubby and I had not been there is quite awhile and everything was amazing. They had several large party tables and it was Saturday around noon, but we were seated within 15 minutes.
Ally was the most exceptional server! She was extremely charming and attentive. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was what you would expect from a diner. The signs on the walls were hilarious.

I ate breakfast there almost every Sunday back in the 80's. The food was good then and as good now. You never know who you'll meet there. In 1989, I had breakfast with Hoyt Axton and afterward, spent the day riding with him.
Such a cool old place. Service is good. There may be a wait on the weekends. Middle of nowhere and not the best parking but it is worth the drive.
This is a historic breakfast cafe, often used on movie sets for its classic look. The food here is decent, with some unique breakfast items like linguica, kielbasa, or bratwurst to go with your eggs. The wait staff is friendly. It can get busy on weekends, so anticipate a wait of around 10 minutes unless you get there early.
Pretty good food. Most of the staff are very nice. They pride themselves on the history and numerous films and shows that took place there. It is a very cozy environment with very filling portions.
A local icon. They have been here forever. Looks run down from the outside....just the way the movie industry wants it. You have seen our local gem in all kinds of movies and TV. Food is good. Portions plenty. If you like salsa on your eggs ask for their green salsa - homemade and tasty.
The food is good, especially the omelets. But sometimes the service is a little slow due to understaffing of the waitresses. It's a great place to stop for lunch in the middle of a work week. I highly recommend the chicken breast sandwich.
This place is a throwback. It is the quintessential american highway diner. Complete with a large bar in front of the kitchen, walls covered in various placards and memorabilia, and a cash register up front. The pancakes, eggs, and bacon were good but not the best I have ever had. I think you come here more for the experience than the food. This place has an old-time feel and has been around forever. It has also been featured in several movies and television shows. I would recommend stopping by if you are in canyon country mid-morning and looking for something different.
Nice cafe....food really was nothing spectacular. Menu said "fluffy" eggs but fluffy......they were not. It was a Wednesday, and very light crowd. I was at one of maybe 5 or 6 occupied tables....it was about 10am. Ordered an Omelette.....it was definitely loaded with the items listed. The atmosphere was great. Definitely enjoyed the clever signs and decor posted all around....nailed that old western cafe feel. I'd go back again. My coffee cup was never empty!
Classic out-of-the-way diner feel. I love it! Love the character of the place which doesn't look like it's changed at all since the 50's or 60's. The food is good, but not great. Portions are a good size. You won't leave hungry. You don't go to a place like this for the food, you go for the atmosphere, and this place has great atmosphere!
This place has great history, many movies and TV shows have been filmed at this location. On my most recent visit, I found the portion servings had gotten smaller, a little disappointing because part of the experience was enjoying claim jumper sized meals. I went on a Saturday morning to have breakfast with my family, usually there's a line out the door but this time we pretty much walked in. Food is good here, quaint little place.
Come here for breakfast sometimes lunch. Each time, it's been great. It can get pretty busy, so you have to be an early bird if you do not want to wait or be around to many people. No matter what you order is good. The service is great. The parking is a bit hard if it gets busy due to the busy Sierra Hwy and people reaching by it can be dangerous.
I didn’t like the coffee. I had a great cup out in the truck. It was drinkable. The food was good. I had French toast. My husband had the burger. It looked very good. I am super picky about the steak fries. I prefer fresh cut. The staff is fantastic. The place is landmark.
Great food and service. With a party of 8 at 9am on a Saturday, we got seated in about 20 minutes, which was faster than I expected. Service was great, friendly and plenty attentive. All the pre breakfast chatter evaporated when the food arrived. Of 7 adults and a kid, everyone liked their food, from the corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, eggs and steak, to the pancakes. And then there were the cars and the weather outside (see photos). Holy moly. Made for a great morning in southern California.
Established in 1931 the Halfway House Café sits on the Sierra Highway in one of the most northern parts of Los Angeles County. It’s just down the road from Animal Tracks, which is a wonderful animal rescue and rehab society. This little country diner has been in many famous commercials and I am sure in a few movies/shows as well. It feels like you are stepping back in time because it is located literally right off the desolate main road. It has a dirt lot for parking and looks like something you would see in an old West town. Inside looks like you would expect from the outside and is a great throwback to the black-and-white days of old Hollywood when Route 66 was fully operational. Our server was very polite, and everything that we ordered came out very fast. They have large sized portions and pricing is fair. There is plenty of parking available out front and inside is larger than it looks from the outside, so there will be many tables to choose from. For my first visit, I started off with a cup of coffee, which is what I always do and really enjoyed this blend. It had a great medium roast taste and was very strong. For my meal, I chose the Eggs Benedict and added avocado. I thought it was honestly really good because the ham was particularly tasty and thicker than you usually get. You can tell that it is a higher quality meat than you would get at some other diners around town. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I honestly really enjoyed my breakfast and part of the fun was actually getting to this restaurant. I live in Marina Del Rey so it is quite a drive from where I am from, but that made it exciting because I got to see some roads and sites that I have never seen before on my way to breakfast. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the Santa Clarita area or to anyone that is willing to take a road trip for a great breakfast spot.
Good food, good prices. I wasn’t that hungry so I just ordered a full order of biscuits and gravy. Everything tasted good. If you are looking for good breakfast food, fast service, and great prices. This is the place to go. I will be back!
What a great roadside cafe! We were unfortunate enough to arrive when they were having propane issues, so their menu was very limited, but they made the best of it. Guess that just means that we will need to stop by again next time we are in the area.
Food and service were good! Definitely a rustic and vintage place with lots of history with many movies scenes and commercials filmed here throughout the years. They close at 3pm every day.

Great spot to come and have some breakfast after a nice motorcycle ride. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was good. Good price point for what you get. Parking is ample. Location is great, right off some really great roads
The food was ok. It's a neat little coffee shop and a nice stop if you are driving by. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here There is table service and a bar counter to eat at. Make sure you have everyone in your party there to dine, as they will not seat you until then.
Staff was very friend but a little slow. Coffee was not refreshed until we were finished with our meal. The food was okay. My vegetable omelette was small and dry. The potatoes were bland. Biscuit and gravy option instead of toast was a nice alternative and the gravy was pretty tasty.
Iconic place. I've been here many times and it's always pretty decent, good prices and good friendly service. This was first visit in about a year. Not sure if they just weren't on their game this morning. Eggs were over cooked. Noticed the guy next to us had burnt toast after smelling burnt toast. Service was pleasant but not attentive. Hope they were just having an off day or they get it together ❤️ Still the good ol boy place to grab breakfast!!
Ordered the eggs Benedict, no flavor at all and there was bacon in it? Also never had a mimosa with ice tasted like orange soda. The place itself is nice but and friendly. I think it's for the location not the food.
Food: 3, Service:5 and Atmosphere; 5. That sorta says it all. Typical breakfast, diner fare. The draw is the location and its history. Pretty sure my hamburger was at least partly soy and the green chili was slimy. I'll probably stay with breakfast if we go back and within 5 miles of our house and we pass it routinely picking up, dropping off our RV. Service was exceptional. Fast and courteous. Food got out quick as well. My wife enjoyed her breakfast food and the burger was edible but you come here for the Cindy Crawford Pepsi commercial, For the dozens of TV shows and movies filmed here. The place has provenance and is worth a visit if not quite regularity.

Inattentive waitres, food is ok, nothing special. Big menu but the waitres was really bad. I asked for refill of coffee, never came, my friend asked for water refill, never came. Waitres was taking constantly with another table and rarely left them. I got biscuits and gravy as psrt of my. Breakfast and one of the biscuits was rock hard, inedible even soaking in gravy. I couldn't pierce it with my fork. I see no reason to ever go back there.
First time eating at halfway house Cafe. Was not impressed with service or food. Food wasn't cooked nor did it taste good . Was very plain. Also while eating there , I had found strands of hair in my food either from when the food was being cooked or from waitress. I do not recommend stopping in to eat at halfway house. Would say ihop is much better. I do not understand the hype when hearing about this Cafe.
Terrible experience! The waitress (short black hair, heavy set with tattoos on her arm, you can't miss her) seemed like she didn't want to be there! Pushy, kept asking, 3 time, if we were ready, while we were still reading the menu and then rolled her eyes when I asked about a healthy menu, because I'm on a Kidney diet and need to watch what I eat (insensitive) saying this is an old fashion diner. Menu items were unhealthy, the table jellies contain high fructose corn syrup that cause diabetes and shorten your life! Heart attack food and the atmosphere was boring, idle chatter and a TV somewhere blaring! The signs were crude and offensive! This place is definitely a Red Neck Haven! Bad food, Bad Service and Haters...yikes, I couldn't get out of there fast enough! Never again!!
Service what great. The dinner is old but sweet. It's the food that is almost not edable. I shoveled it down but would not come here again. Unless it was free or someone else whated to against my will. Small portions for the price. Seems like lowest quality food available. The coffee was to my liking, straight black was fine.
Eaten here a couple times. Food is pretty good, but service is terrible. Our last visit ended with my family leaving without ordering since no one came to take our order after sitting at a table for 15 minutes. The waitress went to every other table at least 3 times to make sure they were ok. We were never even told it would be a few moments and they were not busy. Very disappointed since it's not exactly close to our house.
This cafe has magical orange juice, but that doesn't sugar coat the fact that they are just plain RUDE and I can't bare the disrespect that was given to me. I felt as if I was being attacked by the person I was on the phone with. The customer service is just TERRIBLE. So if you want good orange juice but a shitload of disrespect, go ahead and join all of the other naive people that continue to attend this cafe. The only reason I even ranked them 1 star is because I had to. I wish I could give 0. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD GIVE THEM.
My wife just ordered a chicken sandwich with everything that she wanted on it and didn't get anything on it and you got suck
