One of my favorite Japanese izakaya restaurants in Santa Monica. I have been here couple times and never disappointed. The uni ikura box is a must order dish. They got nabe which is prefect for the cold weather. The services were great. My friends and I were enjoying dinning in. This is the place good for date and with friends.
Been here twice now in two days and both times everything has been fantastic! The sushi is some of the most fresh we’ve ever had. You can’t go wrong with any dish. Also incredible service
Such an amazing izakaya place, i tried their new menu- cappacio. SO GOOD!! and their sea bass is a must try as well. Service is top tier, the servers explain which dish it is when serving and their attention to detail is up to par. Highly recommend!
Was touring Santa Monica area and came upon this sushi restaurant. We were immediately greeted and immediately sat down at the sushi bar. We had several appetizers from the lamb chop to a soft shell tempura crab, and then we went on to an assorted sushimi and other great dishes.. Everything was delicious and I have to say it was one of the best soft shelf crabs I've ever had. I order it all the time and in all types of restaurants, and I would say this was the best. The only thing that didn't pan out was the lamb chop, it was way overcooked. Lamb is supposed to be served medium-rare. Whether you like medium-rare or not. This was well done, but I'm not dinging him for that. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time, great service, great people working there really enjoyed it.
Food was so good here. Service was fast. Lunch specials for $35 was a awesome. Happy hour Monday through Thursday all day!! Will be back soon!!
Early dinner at the sushi bar was lovely. Chef recommended the fresh mackerel which did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy tuna on crispy rice which was so big I struggled to pick each piece up with my chopsticks.
Delicious food. I usually can eat a lot but the omakase I ordered was more than enough for one person.
Kappo Miyabi is an absolute gem in Santa Monica! From the moment you step in, the atmosphere immerses you in a blend of authentic Japanese elegance and modern charm. The food is nothing short of spectacular – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The Omakase experience is a must-try, offering a curated selection of sushi and sashimi that feels like a true culinary journey. Every bite bursts with fresh ingredients and masterful preparation. Standouts for me were the Truffle Salmon Carpaccio and Albacore Sashimi – absolute perfection! The service is equally impressive. The staff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, always ready to offer recommendations and ensure every detail is just right. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a regular night out, Kappo Miyabi delivers an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine at its finest!
So so good! Every time I havw their food it's always so fresh and amazing! 🥹 Everyone there is so outstanding and kind. Much love and support to them ❤️🫶🏽 I couldn't help but take several bites before taking a picture but the food is soo AMAZING! ✨️✨️✨️
Fun place with very gracious folks. We really loved the sea bass croquettes, and followed with two hot stone rice bowls, eel and salmon. The unagi was well prepared and their sauce is less BBQ and more subtle. Plenty of eel. Same with the salmon, not over seasoned. Rice was also fine and we will go back for raw fish next visit; their omakase choices look good. Had a nice few desserts including persimmon and ice cream and a great stout Japanese beer.
A really impressive Japanese restaurant that will knock your socks off. Convinient location and fun exterior with a nice little photo op, it's easy to find and see from the street. It has the cutest little entryway the opens into a really well decorated and furnished reception/dining area. They feature several different types of seating options and the staff is extremely nice. Food quality is excellent as is the service. A lot of nice little added touches and amazing ambiance make this such a great place to dine. Menu selection is incredible as is the specials and sake selection.
Visiting from Hawaii this is my favorite spot so far one of the best sushi I have had yet! Server's are very nice and accommodating with fast service. Many tables available indoor and outdoor. Great environment and everything we ordered was very tasty! I will return here for sure and recommend this spot to anyone in the area looking for a very good Japanese restaurant with amazing sushi and many other food options as well. Perfect for family and friends!
Update: I went back to give it another try last month and it was a much better experience than back in February. We went on Friday at around 7:30 pm and didn’t expect much besides seated indoors since it was super chilly outside. We were greeted into the tatami room and I believe it was because there were not that many customers at this time. We ordered our usual especially their Wagyu crispy rice and everything was superb. This time, the servers and waitress were attentive and didn’t mess up our orders. I thoroughly enjoyed this recent visit. It was a complete 360 turn from the last visit and I realized I needed to update this review. —————— Previous Rating: 3 Stars I really wish I could give them five stars but our overall experience was lackluster. My cousin called the restaurant the day before regarding reserving the tatami room and the restaurant had confirmed the reservation. We arrived a couple of minutes later than our reservation but the street parking was terrible on a Saturday night. We told the host we had a reservation for the tatami room and she told us to wait outside. They then seated us outside a couple of minutes later and we were so confused since we called the day before confirming the reservation for the room. The server stated we were not listed for the tatami room and someone else was occupying it. We didn’t want to leave so we took the outdoor seating. The food was incredibly delicious and quite literally the reason the restaurant deserved stars. There were miscommunications between the waitress and our orders and they kept giving us the wrong order however, that was rectified and all was good in the end. We would come back for the food but we hope that the communication could improve to better our experience.

We've come here countless times and even held our wedding reception meal here (small group of 12) and the star for us is the Motsunabe as well as the quality of the sushi. Special shoutout to the motsunabe as it has become an absolute favorite of ours, so much so that it inspired us to visit Fukuoka on our first trip to Japan. The only downside is now we struggle to find a restaurant that serves this dish on the east side of LA when I have the craving! The staff has always been very pleasant and the booths offer a bit of privacy that's greatly appreciated. The decor hasn't been updated in the 7 or so years we've been coming here so it may not be as fancy as some of the other restaurants in the immediate area but I'd happily bring friends or family here and could easily recommend it as a date spot.
Had such a great time here! The food was super fresh and flavorful. The sushi literally melted in my mouth, and the ramen was rich and comforting. The staff was super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they care about quality and presentation. Cozy vibe, great service, and amazing food. Can’t wait to come back!
After recently returning from Japan, we were craving Japanese and specifically, izakaya. We ordered sushi, okinomiyaki, unagi hot pot, and skewers. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The unagi hot pot may have been the star of the show and the skewers were great. The value for the quality and flavor of food felt really good!

This is a good sushi place that offers a good variety from the classic to more adventurous offerings, which are well executed.
In A Nutshell: -I've eaten at Kappo Miyabi a handful of times & it's actually really good. -Yes, their menu prices are on the $$ side, but their food quality is top-notch. -I especially enjoy their Seafood Udon, you get a couple pieces of big shrimp, a few mussels & clams mixed w/ some cabbage & udon noodles. -The pork broth makes this soup really mouth-watering & soothes your soul in the breezy, cool Santa Monica evening weather. -Their sashimi & sushi options aren't bad either & highly recommended. Overall, the draft beer at $10 is high, but that's really the only knock about this place.

As an avid sushi seeker, I came with high expectation due to reviews. However, it did not meet my expectations. We ordered sushi omakase ($100), unagi stone hot pot, and few other dishes. As for the omakase, the quality of the fish was average and rice (shari) was disappointing. When it comes to pricy sushis, I expect good quality from not only the fish but the base as well. Also for something that cost 100, I expected something better than a take out tray presentation. As for Unagi stone hot pot, it was actually decent! Unagi was flavorful, soft and juicy. Soft crab roll (current season special), I do not recommend. Bitter, dry and bland. Overall, this place has average sushi and few good warm plates. I recommend sticking to cooked dishes over sushis. Their sushis are priced ridiculously high for subpar quality and presentation.

Food was ok .I think it's all a bit to sweet, not what I'm used to from places downtown in Japan town area..much more savory. Maybe they are trying to hard to appeal to Caucasian taste buds.
They only provide disposable chopsticks, which really baffled me. $100 per person, and it's just disposable chopsticks? Not recommended.
