We loved everything about our experience here!! The food was delicious, the environment was wonderful, and the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the baked brie appetizer very much!! My husband absolutely loved the crispy skin chicken, and the crème brûlée was a perfect sweet treat to end the night. Lots of parking at this location! However, the reservations are limited as there is not much seating inside.

We arrived into town late and weren’t sure where to eat dinner. Based on other reviews, we walked in to South Bend Bistro and luckily they were able to get us in! It was incredible. The best chicken I’ve ever had. Everyone we interacted with that worked there expressed how much they loved the food and it came across as genuine and honest- the food was delicious and they had a great n/a beer!

Outstanding dining experience from start to finish! Every dish was prepared beautifully and full of flavor. The salmon was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy inside while still nicely done. The clam chowder was rich and comforting, and the pasta with sausage had a pleasant kick of spice that really brought it to life, though the truffle flavor was a bit subtle. Main courses were priced around thirty to forty five dollars, and worth every penny for the quality and taste. Highly recommend!

Exceptional. I would give more than 5 stars if possible. Our meal was superb! I was smiling all the way through it. Creamy whipped butter for our bread, Baked Brie and Harvest Salad for our starters, delightfully presented with flavorful accoutrements. (People next to us loved their scallops.) I had the special, Braised Short Ribs, which were beefy, flavorful, fork tender and enhanced with the evening's wine special, a buttery, bold, smooth cab. My spouse had the Berkshire Pork Chop and enjoyed it as well. His recommended wine pairing, a Nebbiolo, was good. The wine list is well curated. We topped off this fine meal with Creme Brulee (topped with fresh strawberries) and Pot de Creme - luscious chocolate! We were served by the enthusiastic co-owner/sommelier who show joy in what he does. Seating in the restaurant is tight, making it easy to hear others’ conversation.

We love coming to the South Bend Bistro to indulge in higher end service and 5* meals. Our dinner included the filet mignon and the special (seafood stew). We also enjoyed the lobster dip and goat cheese/beets plate. Very yummy! Our server David was awesome. The drinks were great, and the mocktail he made for our daughter was unbelievably good. These guys know their stuff. Definitely coming back for more greatness! Thank you

First rate food and service. Everything was excellent. Salmon was fully cooked but still moist and soft inside, a hard to achieve balance. Clam chowder was amazing. Pasta with sausage was surprisingly spicy, in a good way but I could not taste the truffle. Entrees were $30-45.

Our second time dine here and they never disappointed us. They have the best lobster dip I have ever had, it so creamy and comforting. The filet mignon and halibut is amazing, very fresh, flavorful and super tender. We didn’t have time for dessert since there is a heavy rain after and we sit outside. But overall the experience is awesome, can wait to come back in near future

The South Bend Bistro is our culinary sanctuary, and after countless visits, it remains an unrivaled favorite! David and Cully’s impeccable service makes every trip extraordinary—their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care make us feel like family. David, in particular, is a wine wizard, consistently pairing our dishes with glasses that leave us, as wine connoisseurs, thoroughly impressed with his spot-on selections. Our latest visit was a masterclass in flavor. We started with expertly mixed cocktails: an Old Fashioned that’s bold yet perfectly balanced and a French Margarita with vibrant, zesty flair. The sea scallops with bacon and asparagus were a sublime blend of tender and savory, while the butternut squash soup was a velvety, heartwarming delight. Our salads were fresh and crisp, priming us for the main event. The pork dish was a succulent triumph, and the salmon and chicken were flawlessly prepared, each bite showcasing the kitchen’s artistry. David’s wine pairings elevated every course, with selections that complemented the flavors so perfectly we were left in awe. For dessert, the raspberry sorbet was a bright, tangy burst, and the flourless chocolate cake was pure decadence—rich, fudgy, and divine. The South Bend Bistro never misses a beat. The food is consistently stellar, the presentation impeccable, and David and Cully’s service, paired with David’s wine expertise, makes every visit a five-star experience. We’ll keep coming back for more!

Great food, David was our waiter. The drinks were fantastic. We had the smoked brie, Halibut, and Tagliatelle with salmon which were all excellent. The Peach tart desert was underwhelming. Great night and food overall.

If you are in Sun River, this place is a must! Reservations are highly recommended. This bistro fills up fast. Our food was delicious, the ambiance was cool and soothing, especially considering we sat at the bar (lucky to get a spot with last minute reservation). Best of all, the servers and bartenders at the bar were beyond amazing! Personal, professional, friendly and overall, what businesses need to make happy customers! Just the two of us tonight - we left very happy and felt this place was the jewel of Sun River!

We’ve been coming to the bistro for many years now and have never left unsatisfied. Last night was no exception. Cully was our server, as he has been numerous times, and was terrific as usual. We were a party of four and had the pork tenderloin special, the salmon, and the short rib rigatoni. For dessert we had the pear tart and the crème brûlée. Everything was absolutely on point. Thank you for another fabulous evening out, we can’t wait for our next visit!

We had an amazing experience at South Bend Bistro! Everyone is so friendly. I highly recommend making reservations—it’s a popular place for a reason; their food is exceptional. I can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu! We ordered: crab cakes, quail, and salad (not pictured, but it was the best!) South Bend Bistro’s drinks and wine menu is also great!

Cully our waiter was the best. Apps of Brie and scallops hit the spot. Both of us had the Tagliatelle, mine with prawns and his with salmon- his was better but tasted wonderful. Great table by the window. Intimate and romantic. I’d not bring kids here. Bar looked nice too. Glad we made a reservation. Would go back.

Incredible food, seriously kudos to chef Kelly, and our waiter, David S. was so personable and a great bartender as well. I would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the area and looking for a premium dining experience. We will definitely eat here on our next trip!

Food and drinks were amazing! Cully our server/bartender was also fantastic! Will definitely add this place to our list of favorites. Great vibe and upscale dining but still simple and low key.

Amazing food. Wonderful service. The pistachio encrusted halibut and N.Y. steak are to die for! Drinks yummy! Flourless chocolate cake was perfect! Thank you Lian and Jeremy!

I went with ribeye carpaccio and king salmon and both entrees were excellent. The salmon was melt on your tongue good :)

4.8 star ratings for a restaurant with this many reviews is extremely rare. I can tell you firsthand there’s a reason for it. We don’t even live in this state, but we’ve had the good fortune to eat here twice in the last couple of months and it is absolutely off the charts. There’s a lot that I can say, but I’ll keep it short. If you haven’t eaten here, you need to make it a priority because it is what we all say it is….

This place was phenomenal. Great job managing the social distancing, and the food was sublime. Would definitely recommend you call ahead for reservations, but try this place!

Dining at South Bend Bistro was a wonderful experience. Service was friendly and welcoming. The food was all excellent and well executed. The quail dish was unique and had great flavors. They were accommodating with swapping some of the included side dishes to a more preferable option. Pork Chops are one dish that can either be amazing or horrible based off the execution. SBB knocked it out of the park with their pork chop. It was flavorful and juicy. Both dishes are recommended and we would order again.

Multiple visits and always so good! Recently shared the clam chowder and harvest salad to start, then the crab cakes and scallops as our entrees. Maybe the best scallops I've ever had - a nice char to them with a little bacon on top and a parsnip puree on the side. Yum! Nice wine list too - we always try to visit when we're in Sunriver.

First time experience for our 4 year anniversary. We were able to get an immediate reservation spot last minute. The entre and dessert was absolutely mouth watering! Portioned well, and cooked to perfection. We were so impressed we made a reservation for the next day! Kudos to the chef and staff! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Celebrated two birthdays and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and service. Met the owner who was also our server. She is wonderful and did everything to make sure we had a stellar experience. She took her time with us and it was a pleasure talking to her. The food was outstanding, halibut for me and the salmon for my friend. We both had drinks, shared an appetizer and dessert. The price was reasonable for the quality. We will most certainly be back!

Our group (6 adults) dined here during our visit to Sunriver. The service was amazing! David was very knowledgeable especially about wine. He did a great job and even gave us many recommendations for other places to eat/visit. The food was very good and priced appropriately. The carpaccio and crab cakes were some of our favorites as well as both pastas. We will be back next time we are in town.

Another wonderful meal and experience last night! As my wife and I like to say, this place never misses! Thank you to all the staff, owners, etc. We shall see you again soon!

We had a delicious meal the other evening, but that's not what this review is about. This review is for the incredibly thoughtful and caring service we received from EVERY team member at the Bistro. And that extended from our server Culley down to the youngest members of the crew - Rome, Hannah, Sierra and Caitlyn. If I missed someone, I apologize! Each of you made our anniversary one to remember! What was so great? It's not often you see employees of a business behave as if they truly care that you are there. I had made a special request of the owner when making our reservations. She not only honored the request with enthusiasm, she stepped it up a couple of significant notches! What she did cost time, effort, and money. When we arrived for dinner her crew went into action and made our dinner one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. If you like great food, and want to be treated special, you need to try South Bend Bistro!

Down in SR for long weekend of life long friends and had to visit David and his team at SBB. Food is always terrific, service the best and over all a real treat. Restaurants in SR are all mediocre and over priced except for SBB Thanks David and team! See you next time!

Easily the best food in Sunriver. My son absolutely loves the clam chowder and grilled cheese. He has been talking about for over a year now. Service is top notch and the wine list impressive. I recommend highly.

We finally got to come here, and boy it was delicious! We sat out on the patio, which I would definitely recommend! Crab cakes were amazing, and the harvest salad was so good with that dressing and butter leaf salad. For the entree, I had the halibut, which I could eat every day! I would definitely recommend this place, super friendly staff, great food, and just a great experience all around!

This a such a lovely little local spot! We come every year at 4th of July for an upscale dinner. They have a great wine list and delicious cocktails! The menu is contemporary but I wouldn’t say the options are kid friendly - it’s more like filet mignon and halibut vibes. Make sure to order the two extra scallops on the side of any dish, they’re literally the best scallops I’ve ever had.

Wonderful dinner in a very cozy, inviting atmosphere. Our waiter, David, was outstanding. The food remarkable.

This is probably our favorite Sunriver restaurant. The food is fantastic and the outdoor deck is lovely. We've eaten inside the restaurant as well, but it's a little cramped. You can't go wrong with the baked brie as a starter to share between two people. I highly recommend the hazelnut encrusted halibut as an entree.

Our favorite place to dine in Sunriver/Bend area. Food is excellent, great patio (dog-friendly), and staff put in the extra effort to make your experience smooth.

Exceptional experience as always. Absolutely nothing that wasn't wonderful. Well one small personal one, wish their butter was soft. But far too many restaurants fail in this. Great drinks, brie was incredible & our entrees were all top-notch. Their filet is among the best steakhouses anywhere. The duck scrumptious. Scallops unique in their brown sugar sauce & so tasty.

This was my first time at South Bend Bistro,it was so much fun. I was greeted by Cully and David. The restaurant is very nice and intimate. I quickly ordered a Dirty Martini followed by an appetizer. I had the crab cakes which were amazing. Followed by a Cesar salad and the pork chop for my entree. I have been to bistros before and it was usually good food, small portions and high prices. Not the case here at SBB. The portions were very satisfying and the prices are very reasonable! The service is empecable and I will definitely be back!! Thanks Cully and crew!!

Good atmosphere, busy but organized, friendly staff, great appetizers (crab cake was awesome), and good food.

The main server is fantastic. He is knowledgeable, sweet, and honest. He does not steer you wrong. The chowder was 10/10. The scallops are the same. I wish the salmon was as good, slightly dry and somewhat fishy . The creme brulee was lovely, light, and creamy.

This was a fine option. However, relative to the price and overall attempt at fine dining the food is just OK. We had the baked brei and crab cakes. Both were good. The crab cakes were stand out. Our table also had the truffle ragu, salmon, filet mignon and duck breast. The truffle ragu was unimpressive, watery and not very flavorful with regards to truffle. Unsure if there was any truffle at all. The filet mignon was good. The duck breast was ok, but small, perhaps half a duck breast for over 40 dollars. The salmon was mediocre and the sides (risotto and Asparagus) were both over done. The wait staff were good. And wine selection was great. Ambiance was good. Just kind of a mid showing for the price point. Maybe what you get in a resort setting with limited options.

Serving staff was great. Scallops are excellent. That said, the space itself was a bit...meh. Chairs might have been made out of bamboo and spit. Food overall was a b? Again though, call out to the serving staff. Nice dining experience overall. Wouldn't go there for the food necessarily.

Friendly service but sort of slow and absent, cozy patio and fresh food that falls shy on flavor but big on price. Ordered a variety of items: steak tartare, chilled tomato soup, halibut, rack of lamb, crab cakes, flourless cake, gin sour, gin blueberry sparkler, Manhattan, champagne and cosmo. Favorites were the soup, gin sour and cosmo. Halibut was a creative take with a southern spin that fell short on flavor. The lamb ribs were good but the bourbon sauce didn’t come through & they were greasy. The crab cake was a nice flavor but small. The soup was refreshing and not too rich. The flourless cake disappointed. Ordered a glass of champagne and came out in the little bottle with a blue label (not what we expected for $$$) All the staff were super friendly and we loved the dog friendly patio. We are happy we tried this place but for just shy of $300 we won’t return.

We took some friends to South Bend Bistro while they were here on vacation. Atmosphere was really nice out on the patio. The salads were delicious and came out quickly. But, after we ordered our meal, it took almost 30 minutes for it to come out. Three of the four meals we ordered were the Halibut. Unfortunately all three were dry, but the rest of the food on the plate was really good. We ate about half the fish and you could actually see how dry it was by just looking at it. Didn't see the waitress again until almost the end of the meal when we brought the issue to her attention. She apologized and then brought us our bill.

Can't rate the food, but I can certainly rate the management and the quality thereof. We arrived promptly for our dinner reservation set for 7:45 only to find the tiny foyer packed with four or more groups, also with reservations. There was no host/manager/owner to greet or explain. No one approached us. Eventually we observed a man leisurely clearing a table that had been used by a large party who had only just left. We waited patiently. I observed a bartender and the single person bussing this table. Other dinners lingered over their drinks and food. After ten or fifteen minutes of waiting, my partner and I realized that once they finished clearing and setting tables for all of the people waiting, we would spend thirty minutes waiting for drink service, all the dinner orders would come in to the kitchen at once, and it would be an hour and a half before everyone was served food, by a clearly overwhelmed kitchen. Since no one had greeted me, I walked up to the table and told the guy we'd be canceling our dining appointment. He seemed surprised and a bit put out. "Oh. Okay?" No apologies, no explanation. This was a dinner planned three weeks in advance. A special dinner. Now it was after Eight, in Sunriver, on vacation, which does not abound with quality restaurants. So we ate at the Lodge Kitchen. Big. Damn. Mistake. See my review there, if you want.

C
Chelsea B

Cozy place with potential but they really need to up their game. They need some new blood in the kitchen and inspiration. The food is so tired and basic, yet you’re paying super high resort prices. Not worth it. I always leave disappointed with my meal - my last dish was salmon which tasted like burnt oil, the bread butter is always cold and tastes freezer burnt, most of the dishes don’t change much. A little more variety in summer would be nice, and their meat entrees are usually very dry. Also truffle oil on carpaccio? Please NO. The service is great and the cocktails and wine selection is nice.

O

That's how a $16 creme brulee to go looks like.. Very disappointing!

K
Kylie Herman

Showed up at 5pm when the restaurant opened, without a reservation, and we were declined. Place was completely empty and was told earliest availability was 6:45pm. I could understand if we walked into a busy restaurant and be declined, but it was literally empty.
