Tip: Try the Thattu Dosa, it stole the show. Also, the restaurant offers a variety of dosas and a special thali that changes from time to time.

Great sambar, curd vadai and rava dosa were also very good
I think this is one of the best authentic South Indian restaurants in the Bay area. They have amazing dosas and medu vadas. The filter coffee is to die for. In the evenings they have the live Bangalore style pani puri which is a must-try. I also like the masala puri. This might be the only place you can get these Bangalore chaats around here.
Awesomeness!!! We got the Kalyana Sapudu ( meaning wedding lunch) or in other words a Thali meal ‘to go’. I am always weary about getting such elaborate meals as a ‘to go’ order, however this restaurant has it perfected. Food taste and quality is an A+ Selection of items and the packaging is an A+ Each thali meal came with two large Rotis/chapatis and a lot of rice. The rice was fresh and fluffy. I cannot wait for my next trip back to the Bay Area and enjoy the wonderful food.
If you are looking for Authentic South Indian food, must visit here... Must try Brngaluru Benne Dose, Tamarind rice and South Ibdian Thali... 😋
Good place to try South Indian style food. Best for meals and snacks
Had Karnataka meals during lunch and was fantabulous with parata, tasty lentils and two sweets.
One of the best spot to go with family and friends. Service is good and staff are extremely friendly, made us feel comfortable. We had a chance to talk to the chef and he was very humble, they also assured that they won't reuse the oil. They have live panipuri and dosa counter. Had a really good time.
The hyderabad style pani puri (ragada one) here is soo good!! I couldn’t find any pani puri in bay area that matches this south indian homemade style panipuri. 🙂
The coffee with jaggery was phenomenal. It’s very refreshing. Best to enjoy it with Phunugulu.
Wow!! Great food. If you are looking for a spot for South Indian food in SF/Bay area/Silicon Valley area, this is your spot. Let me introduce you to this South Indian food here. I ordered the Kalyana Sapaadu (Marriage feast). Don't worry about the name, it is just a collection of different items served everyday in South India. You get a round tray of rice, sambar(Lentil masala curry), kootu(thick lentil gravy), poriyal(dry vegetable stir fried), aviyal(mixed vegetable curry), rasam(watery curry prepared with spices that kill flu, more of medicinal value), appalam (crispy pappadums), yogurt, pickle, sweet of the day. All items are nutritious, more of protein and vitamins in each curry. For togo orders, you can eat in the tray that comes with the items. No special or extra plates needed. Everything was well packed. Add to this, a banana to complete the palette. You can either order one of the Kalyana Saapaadu and serve for two or go for one per order. You will definitely feel being in the southern part of India and eating what people eat everyday there, Guaranteed!!!! They are open for online orders too in Doordash. Go ahead and enjoy yourself
I have ordered their banana leaf thali , I had an absolute wonderful experience with the food.overall I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys great flavors and truly delightful dine in experience will be back again .
I had brunch with my sister at Ananda Bhavan after a long time. They have lots of parking space. Service is outstanding. Staff is attentive and bring the food out quickly. Food is delicious, clean and healthy. ideal place to have idlys and dosas after difficult hike ! Update on 4/9/2024 They have an amazing chat corner opened at the back where they serve the famous Bangalore masal puri, pani puri & other chats.
Overall in this shop, great prices for many things. The curries and dishes are flavorful and healthy. They also offer a small restaurant outside. We generally go here for dinner either lunch.
Tons and tons and tons of variety of dosas here. This is the most versalite South Indian restaurant I came across in the Bay Area. Dishes are pricey compared to other South Indian restaurants but quality is decent. In addition to dosas, their combo dishes are great too. I love their ghee pongal, it’s really rich. Plenty of parking place next to restaurant. They have a dedicated parking space. They also added an outdoor space in the pandemic which is really cool. They also offer specials during weekend. Always a delight to visit this place. It’s been several years I have been visiting on and off!
By South Indians for South Indians, this restaurant is an authentic experience of Bangalore / Tamilnadu / Andhra cuisine. The South Indian lunch Thalis are excellent and the idli/vada/dosas are all great. But the newest feature of this place is the outdoor street food stations at night, which feature live Bangalore-style pani puri, masala chaat, and my favorite, mirchi bhajji!! Prices are super reasonable and from now until Dec 31 they have half off deals on chaats. Highly recommend, we will be back many more times.
I have been here 5 times and every time I try something different on the menu. I have never been disappointed. I specially love their golgappas, gongura masala dosa and cheese dosa.
We had the idli/vada combo and the ghee masala dosa. Both were very good and the sambar was really tasty.
Consistent and great taste . Always reliable. They keep innovating outdoor snack options. Our regular go to restaurant
Loved their Mirchi bajji and Pani puri. They had authentic South Indian taste
We have been coming here for years and always left happy and satisfied. Very spacious, well lit place. Staff is friendly.
We visited this place for dosa and had amazing experience . The onion chilli rava dosa was crispy and they have varitey of options in thali as well . They even have a kids menu . They recently started a snack street , paani puri was the show stealer . Best place for desi food in bay area . Must try place .
This is our weekly Pani Puri Joint! So good!!! And the kiddo’s have South Indian so this place takes care of entire family :)
Awesome food and service. Highly recommended for authentic South Indian vegetarian dishes.
I visited this restaurant while visiting Sunnyvale for work. This is really awesome joint for snacks, lunch and dinner. The menu is very authentic south Indian dishes. Along with a few snacks, chat options outside the main restaurant. The food was authentic and tasty. They also sale homemade dry sack at the counter, I bought murukku and it was fresh and just perfect. Homely food.
Best place to have irani chai in and around Sunnyvale. Ulavacharu Sweets and snacks doesn't have irani chai all the time and Deccan Morsels from Fremont is too far for a cup of irani chai. They have one irani chai only in the evenings 5.30 to 9.30. I would definitely recommend going to this place just for irani chai.
Absolutely enjoyed the food! Ordered Paper Roast, Poori Masala & Dahi vada for breakfast. Food was so delicious! Really enjoyed my breakfast. There was only one slight inconvenience. I had to walk to the front to get extra chutney, but the food was so good I'm still rating it 5 stars. Very posh and classy ambience. I really liked it as soon as I entered the restaurant. This place doesn't disappoint.
A friend recommended this and posted pics so we were craving. We ordered poori, medhu vada, plain dosa, combo#1, south Indian thali, and tea. It was pretty tasty and not too spicy(hot) for our palette. The spicier tastes were quickly doused by the raita or sweet dessert on the table. We were happy with the vada, dosa and poori, we liked the crispiness and flavors of the sauces. Service is nice. This evening we tried street food in their outdoor court. It was a fun experience especially the puri bar where they make your "bite" while you are standing nearby. They give a choice of hot, medium or mild so that was nice. Try the dessert, punugulu, it looks like a dumpling but filled with coconut and sugar. The Chaai Biscuit is simple but it goes well with the tasty tea.
If you are looking for South Indian food outlet which only serves vegetarian delicacies ..this is the place to be ! Not to be missed it has big free parking space as well ! seating is very much Indian style and staff is helpful ! We had dosas, it was really delicious and crispy. It was a long wait to be seated but after that it was real quick once we ordered the food. Staff was super helpful. I enjoyed my food and the whole experience in this restaurant. The Tea is very classy, and the food is well presented. I ate there for lunch and I liked the south Indian dishes they served. All in all I will give it five stars, but it is worth it.
Exceptional service and authentic south Indian food. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. Mouth watering live/street food options. Chai perfectly pairs with maska bun.
We are regulars at Ananda Bhavan. Going there for almost 10 years. Amazing food and amazing service. They never let you down. Consistency is the name of the game
Excellent place for authentic South Indian vegetarian food, especially if you’re craving flavors that truly feel like home. The Benne Dosa is a standout—perfectly buttery and crispy on the edges with a soft, fluffy inside, tasting exactly like the ones from back home in Karnataka. The benne melts right in and is super aromatic, while the coconut chutney and sambar are fresh, well-balanced, and complement the dosa perfectly.
Really enjoyed Anand Bhavan. The food was great, the staff was super friendly, and everything felt fresh. I liked knowing they don’t reuse oil, you can taste the difference. The pani puri especially stood out, very close to real Indian street food. Definitely worth a visit.
“Love the food at Anand Bhavan! Simple, clean, and tasty South Indian dishes. The dosas and filter coffee are my favorites. Great place for a quick and fulfilling meal.”
Excellent sambar, rava upma, rava khichdi, dosai, chutneys. We ordered the mega combo and got to taste multiple items and all of them very super tasty! We requested sambar refills 3 times! So yumm. Will definitely repeat to try out other dishes
My Favorite place and of atleast 6 others I know . Fresh flavorful food , you can taste the difference when compared with other restaurants. The food tastes like its been made everyday with the best ingredients. Decent service and decent ambience .
Love this place so much. It's like our another place to find home cooked meals. Whenever I'm so lazy to cook, we come to this restaurant. The service , environment and the food all are 5 stars 🌟 . Also reasonable price. Recommended for family and friends or couples. We loved the boy Navin . He always serves us generously and happily. 🙌💕
Excellent Thali , one of the best vegetarian thalis in the Bay Area . My husband had his favorite Rava masala dosa , also one of the best preparation. We have been to many South Indian places but Ananda Bhavan proved you can make food flavorful without making it chili hot/ spicy . Fresh and yummy, must try
Absolutely loved the South Indian meals here! 🍛 Their Thali has a great mix of protein, veggies, and flavor — perfectly balanced without compromising on taste. You can tell they’ve put thought into making it nutritious and wholesome. It’s a complete, well-balanced meal ideal for anyone looking for healthy, home-style South Indian food. Great value, great quality, and consistently satisfying!
Thoughtful Kolam Decor adds to the vibe of this place. We visited Sri Ananda Bhavan followed by a Hindu temple visit. The food did not disappoint here! We were here on the weekday evening so the place wasn't crowded and we got the table without any wait. They have an outside patio where they serve Panipuri, Masalapuri and other snacks like Bun Maska Chai etc. We tried Panipuri and it was really good. We had Masala Puri too. Us being from Pune-Mumbai we expected a different dish but this Blore style Masala Puri was really tasty. Indoor we had coconut Masala Dosa, which was least favorite of all the things we tried here. Freshly grated coconut might taste better in this dish. Onion Uttapa and chatanis were good. We also liked the filter coffee here. I definitely recommend this place and we will come back when in the area.

Everything was good i like the thali which they are serving on diwali and on ganesha festival service and ambience was ok. Must try bhajji and irani chai which they serve outside
Good vibes, food was speedy and delicious, staff were friendly and professional. Also the prices are super reasonable \nHighly recommend the paneer dosa and the pizza uattapm
I just love the pani puri and masala puri here. It gives the authentic taste. The service is quite good. There were buy one get one free offer. The place is also quite nice.

Good dosas (were little too spicy for me though). Chutneys could be better.
We ordered Kalyana Sappadu since I haven’t tried any vegetarian full meals for a long time. There were nice varieties, of which wada and sambhar were very delicious. All the items were tasty, except for their kesari and semiya payasam, which were not cooked properly and I wasn’t completely satisfied with the meal. But overall, I felt the food was good
This is nice South Indian restaurant. The ground team does really good job in talking orders and finding seat immediately. Parking space is good too. The food is good , medhu vada can be made better for sure. Madras coffee ,Dosa are excellent and Pongal is good except it's not consistent. Also don't eat Pongal in night or evening it's from morning so it will be pretty dry. concerning for me the loud film songs in the morning office time makes me jump out to calls and in couple of times. I don't know why such loud music is needed in the morning. Restroom could be made little brighter.
We always have a great experience here, the food is tasty and homely and the service is welcoming. Highly recommend for a satisfying South Indian dining experience
We tried the stall of ananda Bhavan first time and believe me you won’t regret. All the snacks were too good in taste including Modak. Masala poori and golgappas were total hit but the best part was the environment there with the fresh music and the good seating place even when you are outside and make it happening specially during the weekend.
Surprisingly hadn't tried this place out before, considering my fondness for south-indian restaurants. Went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and at the recommendation of a friend, and was pleasantly surprised by the food here. We ordered rasam vada, mysore masala dosa, onion rava masala dosa and the south indian special thali. The rava masala dosa was great - thin, crispy at the edges and soft at the center. Would recommend trying it. The south indian thali too had a good variety of dishes. I especially enjoyed the rasam and variety rice that day. The thali though was not hot when first brought out, and I had to request them to heat up the dishes. Second time around it was better. The filter coffee was up to the mark too. Not too crowded in comparison to some other south-indian restaurants in the area, which is a plus. They have a covered outdoor section too, which would be nice on good-weather days. Service could have been slightly better, hard to get hold of servers after pacing the order.
Great atmosphere and service. We ordered Andhra spicy gongura masala dosa and thalis for dinner during Vinayaka Chavithi. My concern with the dosa was there’s was very little gongura (spinach). It was basically potato curry at the center with very little gongura smeared on the surface of the dosa. I expected the spinach to be mixed with the curry They put up a large statue of Vinayaka outside.
“The best South Indian food that you can get here in bay area especially Breakfast. I would have given 5stars but due to an bad experience with a dinner I had here made me to minus a star . I had veg thali and it was not up to the regular mark , maybe it’s due to my late visit. Hopefully I won’t experience that again. When it comes to breakfast items, they are the best. I had almost all of em, my favorites are pongal, ghee rava dosa and masala dosa. Gulab jamuns are awesome. Below are some of my clicks , please have a look.......
Tried and tested South Indian restaurant, I would recommend this restaurant for a quality South Indian meal be it dosas or rice. Recently I tried the new chaat options - Bangalore Masala Puri, live South Indian Pani Puri, etc,. They are worth trying out once, they didn't taste like the original dishes from Bangalore. 8/7 Update: The food quality has improved significantly. We visit this place often now, the Masala Puri tastes really good!
Great Authentic South Indian food! Atmosphere was good. Service was good. We had a cilantro dosa , that was really good. But paper masala dosa was not upto the mark. Dahi papdi chat was hit! Filter coffee was awesome! Must try. Mango lassi was ok. They celebrate Indian festivals thatw as really nice. Loved the ganpati decoration.
The food is okay. Felt it was a little bland. The tomato soup was very different compared to the normal desi tomato soup, will not order that again. Their pickle was very tasty and the coconut chutney was fresh and tasty. Their chai is also good. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.
Edit : Increasing the rating by 1 star. Dine in Experience : Rava Masala Dosa and Masala Puri The Masala Puri was excellent. You get 25% off on the menu price for this entire month. Highly recommend . Note you need to get the Masala puri from the Live counter outside. This has separate line and billing. The Rava Masala Dosa was average. Probably I have tasted much better ones. There is definitely scope to improve on this one, hence won’t be recommending Rava dosas at this restaurant at this point in time. Overall recommend this place . Will visit again. ToGo Experience via Doordash Ordered via doordash. Mother’s Day special thali. The Food was good. The quantity however felt was less (compare to other places ) Price is on the higher side. The way they pack the thali via doordash was good too.
We walked in here last night to grab a quick bite, the place was lit up and seemed like quite busy even at 9:00 PM on a weekday! They have a live counter for pani puri, I was super excited for that but coming from north India to find out it wasn’t the original but the warm chickpea type but to my surprise, it tasted so gooood!! Def a great experience. Apart from that, when we went in we got the papdi chat & paper dosa + their special masala dosa. The sambhar wasn’t the best but all the chutneys were amazing! The paper dosa was great but the other their house special taste a bit too tangy for our liking? Not sure if that’s how it’s prepared but something was off about it. As far as the service is concerned, it’s just the mediocre service you find at any quickie restaurants - that being said our server was very nice & prompt from taking our order to bringing our bill! Overall, recommended for good pani puri & chats!
We visited to checkout the new stall. We got masala puri, vindalo, irani chai and osmania biscuit. Masala Puri - 1/5 (the concept of Bangalore masala puri did not come through) the pani puri was altered and made as masala puri Vindalo - 5/5 it’s was super delicious crunchy on the outside and doughy and soft on the inside. Irani chai and biscuits- 4/5, the chai was really yummy. We also got paper roast masala dosa, and it was crunchy and delicious. Texture I would say 10/5 really well done. The stuffing and all the other dishes sambar, chutney were pretty good too.
One of the best Thalis I’ve had in recent times for sure. We went on a weekday, no wait, plenty of parking available. Every item on the thali plate was soo tasty!! Especially the pappu, kovakkai fry, and vathakuzhambu were our favorite items. Totally worth the price paid! Ended our meals with a delicious filter coffee - only thing is I wish they hadn’t pre added sugar in the coffee, it was a bit too much - but nonetheless good end to our lunch. Totally recommend for a South Indian, homely meals here. Will be back again!
Visited Sri Ananda Bhavan in Sunnyvale a few days back. First we went to the newly opened chat counters. Mirchi Baji, masaala puri were great. Paani puri water was a little harsh on the throat. Chai was good but biscuit is avoidable. Then we went inside the restaurant and ordered masala dosa, rawa dosa and coriander dosa and shira. All Dosas were excellent, sambar was good but all 3 chutneys didn’t clear the notch. They need to improve the taste and quality of at least coconut chutney. Need not serve 3 chutneys. Shira was good. Ambiance both inside and outside is nice. Good seating. Very Good service. There’s enough parking also just next to the restaurant. Overall 4 on 5, a nice experience .
We recently tried their Special Banana Leaf thali and surprised at the number of items. Husband thoroughly enjoyed it!

They say it's Bangalore masala puri but it's nowhere close. It's simply samosa ragada with puri instead of samosa. It didn't taste anything like masala puri. Didn't have the onion, peas, chilli …
Food quality is in decline. I have been a regular for 4+ years.... But probably this will be last time for a while.
I went there for pani puri and masala puri, which are served outside the actual restaurant. They have a live pani puri counter, but if you like mumbai or north indian style pani puri, you probably won't like it as much. They serve pani puri with warm ragda, but it lacks the mumbai taste. If you want delhi style pani puri which is served with potato masala, dont come here.
Mediocre food. Ordered a plate of parotta and for the first time ever in my life - it came coupled with rajma as the side haha 🤷♂️ Tried masala dosa and plantain bajji as well and both were just about average. Ambience is all right. There is a dog friendly patio and ample (but tight) parking available nearby. Service is quick and prices are reasonable. Will skip it next time though because of the mediocre quality of food.
We visited this restaurant twice. Masala puri and pani puri were tasty and they have 50% off promotion which makes it economical. For dine in we ordered Mirchi Bhajji,Ghee Pudi Dosa,Idli Fry. The Idli Fry was deep fried small idlis coated with chutney powder. Idli was hard and chutney powder was a little bland which made the dish not so tasty. Also for 8.49$ the quantityof the dish was very little(as shown in pic),11 small idlis for 8.49$ is definitely pricey. We had ordered Mirchi Bhajji, the Bhajji were okish and was cold,we would not order it again. We also ordered Ghee Pudi Masala Dosa. Dosa was not cooked thoroughly, not crispy and potato sabzi was under seasoned. Out of chutneys served with dosa, the consistency was good but tastewise it was not good. Only the coconut chutney was decent. We will go back to eat chaats at live counter but won't go back for their fine dine(dosa/Idli etc).
Weird atmosphere. Cold restaurant. Food was ok, wayyyy better options around town. I think overall, spots like this are utility restaurants for me and when the prices get high, it doesn't make sens…

The lady serving the pani puri with hair colour was displaying highly unprofessional behavior. She was handling the food carelessly (e.g., throwing the pani puri), giving ua 'stary' or hostile looks.
We went here for lunch. Both me and my wife ordered the Kalyana Sapudu thali. The papads had gone soft and there was lack of seasoning in every thing served in the thali. We also ordered tea and requested that we get it first. We reminded our server twice but in spite of this the tea was served towards the end and was lukewarm at best and did not taste good. We also ordered poori which comes with two sides as per the menu. My wife specifically mentioned she wanted the rasam and potatoes to be served with the poori. The rasam however was served first cold and after a long wait the pooris were served with the potato accompaniment. It was not an enjoyable dining experience. Ambience: Ok Process: Scan the code on the table to get menu on phone and order Quantity: ok Parking: Ample Times visited: 1
Decent food (some items like their Poori channa and pongal are good) but terrible service. There is literally only 1 person to take orders, deliver orders, take payments or even just speak in English. Very hard to communicate with the others or rather they don’t care.
Please avoid this place. It’s very unhygienic. A few of my friends ended up with food poisoning after eating here, which is extremely concerning. While the chai is actually good, the food is a major letdown. The samosas and other snacks seem like frozen items just fried in oil that tastes off. I wouldn’t take the risk of eating here again. Definitely not worth compromising your health over.
I recently tried this place and ordered dosa and pesarattu. The taste was good at first, but unfortunately, the food didn’t sit well with me. Within a few hours, I ended up with diarrhea and an upset stomach. It may have been an issue with freshness or hygiene that day. I really wanted to enjoy the experience, but the aftermath was unpleasant. Hoping the restaurant looks into quality and food safety so this doesn’t happen to others
Used to be extremely good restaurant. Now it was really bad food. Dosa was not cooked properly, potato was big chunks. And very bland sambar. Felt someone had poured water in the sambar and brought.
I had a very disappointing experience here. Although their listed closing time is 10 p.m., at 9:35 p.m. they told us that pani puri service was closed. However, just a couple of minutes later, they served pani puri to other customers. When we asked, the staff said those people were their friends and that service was closed for outside customers. I found this behavior very unfair and disrespectful. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this place. They do not even deserve this 1 star also which I gave just to post this review.
I went to this place yesterday and had a Thali. Saw this hotel online (came to Sunnyvale from London on a short trip, so I am not aware of the area) and thought of trying out. Food is not good at all. It was spicy and upset my stomach, i didn't finish one item fully in the thali. I do not recommend
We just came out of the restaurant, and I have to say this was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The food was absolutely terrible — not a single dish out of the six we ordered was even remotely acceptable. The textures were off, and everything tasted poorly prepared. The idly, in particular, was shockingly bad — half-cooked and completely inedible. We paid $128, and it felt like we got absolutely nothing in return. A complete waste of money. What’s even more disappointing is that no one from the staff bothered to ask how the food was. If they had, we were ready to give honest feedback right then and there. We came in with decent expectations, especially after seeing good reviews, but now we feel completely misled. Honestly, even saying we’re disappointed would be an understatement. Do not come here.
We just came out of the restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. We ordered 6 different items, expecting at least a couple of them to be decent — but not a single one was good. The worst part was the idly — it was half-cooked and had an off taste that made it almost inedible. Completely unacceptable for such a basic item. The rest of the food didn’t fare any better. It honestly felt like a total waste of money. Even if this food was offered for free, we wouldn't want it. We left feeling let down and frustrated. Also, the positive reviews do not reflect the reality here at all — they’re completely misleading based on our experience. Terrible experience. Not recommended at all.
