amazing indian restaurant. the starters were absolutely delicious, especially the lamb gilafi kebab and the bhajiyas. the samosa chaat was also top notch and the various flavours of the trio chicken were perfectly spiced. The laccha paratha went well with the kolhapuri lamb, which had a nice chilli kick to it. But the starters were definitely the star of the show. i finished off with the matka kulfi dessert and as a big fan of kulfi, i must say this was one of the best kulfis i ever had! the service was first class, the waiters were happy to guide us through the menu and i was very impressed with their suggesstions. would highly recommend this place if u want delicious tasting, autentic indian food..
Everything from start to finish was incredibly delicious and beautiful, it exceeded our expectations by far. The lighting, the ambiance, and the flavours all came together to create a truly delightful dinner experience. The staff were attentive and the service quality was excellent. This place is absolutely a gem!
Absolutely fantastic. The best Indian restaurant outside of India, without a doubt. Every dish was bursting with flavour, the starters were incredible, and the daal was out of this world. The menu offers an amazing range of choices, and everything we tried was cooked to perfection. Great service, lovely atmosphere, and food that truly stands out. Can’t wait to come back!
To be honest, I came here thinking the ratings might be a little overrated. After visiting, I can confidently say this place truly deserves every single one of those 5 stars. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, I only remembered to take photos after finishing most of the dishes, so I couldn’t capture them. The staff are very attentive and genuinely friendly. The person I believe is the manager clearly goes above and beyond to make sure guests leave happy, and you can really feel that effort. If I weren’t only in the area for a short time, this would easily be my go-to dinner spot at least twice a week. I just wish there was one in Watford too!
We had a wonderful evening at Roots in Teddington. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after. Especially important to us, as my wife has a nut allergy. They took it seriously, reassured us without any fuss, and made sure her meal was entirely safe. That level of care means everything. The food? Outstanding. Every dish was beautifully spiced and perfectly balanced. The Chicken 65 starter was a standout, crispy, bold, and packed with flavour. The Achari Prawns brought just the right amount of tang and heat, and the signature lamb dish was melt-in-the-mouth tender and deeply aromatic. To top it off, the cocktails were excellent—creative, well-balanced, and made with care. Roots does everything right. We’ll absolutely be back.
I recently had Indian food here and it was absolutely amazing, probably the best i’ve ever had! The flavors were authentic and full of depth. The dhal curry authentic and so tasty as well as the biryani. On top of that, the service was really good(friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Absolutely wonderful experience at Roots. It was our first visit after reading a recommendation, and arriving at 5:30pm on a Saturday was perfect for a relaxed start with cocktails. We were greeted with such a warm welcome and loved the whole evening. The restaurant filled up quickly after 6pm but we never felt rushed. The staff were so friendly & attentive, without being overbearing. We began with poppadoms and delicious cocktails— the accompanying sauces were amazing. Our starters were the vegetable samosa chaat and venison kebab, which were both outstanding. For mains, we had the lamb saag and the sea bass & prawn curry, with sides of mushroom/spinach saag & black lentil dahl - each dish was packed with outstanding, distinct flavours. Interior and presentation of the dishes is gorgeous, and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The chefs and front of house staff clearly know how to provide a wonderful standard of food and service. We're really looking forward to our next visit to try some of the other dishes. Highly recommend! ☺️🌟
We went to Roots last night for my mother's birthday dinner. The service was excellent from start to finish and the staff made sure to answer all our queries and keep our drinks filled! The food was exceptional. I recommend the Duck breast tikka and the Niigiri Prawns! Lovely decor and atmosphere all round. We will 100% be visiting again.
We went to Roots in Teddington yesterday for lunch with a big family group including me, my two kids, my mum, my brother, and his family and we had a really great experience. The food was lovely. The menu is not massive but that is what makes it feel special. You can tell the focus is on doing a smaller number of dishes really well rather than trying to do too much. The flavours were excellent and the lamb was a standout. It was tender full of flavour and not fatty or stringy like you often get elsewhere. What really made the visit for us was how good they were with the children. The staff could not do enough to look after them and the kids food came out quickly which makes such a difference when you are eating with younger ones. It felt relaxed and genuinely welcoming rather than forced. A really nice place with great food and a warm family friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be back and would happily recommend it especially if you are going with kids.
Roots is a great name for a restaurant that explores innovative culinary ideas and this Awadhi (from Lucknow, India) themed restaurant is at the top of my favourites list of restaurants in London. I have been to several Awadhi cuisine restaurants in and around London and I can assure all foodies that the menu on offer is absolutely mouthwatering and heavenly. For starters I ordered a beautiful mojito and Kentish Town Lamb Chops which setup the excitement for my main course of Mutton Biryani! It is difficult to put in words the intense satisfaction I had while dining here and we were extremely well looked after by our knowledgeable host! As Arnold said: ‘I will be back!’.
Amazing surprise in Teddington. Would definitely recommend this Indian place. Small menu but really tasteful. Selio made the experience unforgettable and unique. It has just became our favourite Indian restaurant.
Our first visit to Roots was just Amazing. We went to celebrate my Husband's birthday and they made it a memorable one for us. Every dish we ordered was bursting with flavours, especially trio of chicken tikka, butter chicken, and samosa chat. They surprised us with palak pata chat and desserts were on the house. The service provided by all the members was just flawless, specifically Selio. He was great throughout from start till the end. We will definitely be returning.
Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had! The flavours were so unique and extremely rich. 99% of Indian restaurants in the UK use a base sauce for all their dishes and they can often all taste the same. Roots on the other hand…..all dishes were so fresh and were cooked from the heart. I cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Big words but I bet Roots get a Michelin star in the near future…it was that good! The owner/management/staff are all very knowledge and describe their food with such passion. The decor inside is also very tasteful and modern. Outstanding! See you again very soon.
Lunch at Roots is a great experience. The restaurant has great decor, food is freshly made and flavourful. Highly recommend their signature dish palak patta chaat which was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is relaxed. Service provided to us by Selio was absolutely first class. Will certainly be going back.
I came here for my birthday with some family, friends and a toddler. The staff were welcoming and the service was fantastic throughout. The food and cocktails surpassed all expectations. Every dish was memorable and tasted different with rich depth of flavour. We cannot wait to return!
I have really enjoyed going time and time again to this gem of an Indian restaurant since discovering it a few months ago. Food: What a menu. Not over complicated or too much. Just enough choice to inspire you to challenge your taste buds. And it also doesn’t stand still. The chefs are continuously removing and adding dishes that have inspired them. And their chef’s specials are amazing. The food is served beautifully but the taste is even more of a surprise. Full of depth and authenticity with a hint of a twist that you aren’t expecting. From starters to dessert you will experience a wonderful taste sensation. And I guarantee you’ll be back for more. Service: Aman (I hope I have spelt his name correctly) is a fabulous host and his attention to detail and pride of the restaurants offering and reputation is second to none. All his staff follow his lead and are equally attentive but not over powering. Atmosphere: when you walk in you will be delighted by the decor. It isn’t your run of the mill Indian Restaurant, it has taste, class, quirk and elegance all rolled into one. With small zones that give a different feel. The nod to its Indian roots in the life size mural on the wall gives a feeling of its heritage. Overall: This has become my favourite Indian restaurant within a 10 mile radius. Food prices are about average, although drinks are a little on the high side, however, they are located right in the heart of Teddington. Give it a go you won’t be disappointed.
I happened across roots tandoori this evening, little did I know what treat was in store!! Absolutely wonderful careful service from the front of house staff and the matridi, with the most amazing food I have tasted in quite a long while. The menu is not expensive but tightly focused around what they do well and I'm told it is changed frequently, I cannot believe my visit this evening was a lucky one-off when everything came to a beautiful crewscendo, more that a damp Tuesday night in Teddington in October was this restaurant operating at standard, but my what an excellent standard this is I will be back I fully recommend this place and I will bring some more people with me and enthus about it. Thank you for most memorable meal. PS: I fully recommend the goat biryani
Visited Roots to celebrate my husband's birthday, and when the food is 100/100, the celebration becomes a memory to remember. This place is a complete gastronomic experience. Their Tandoor starters are succulent, smokey, and perfectly spiced. Loved Dahi puri, it's one of the Street Foods of Mumbai, and it did open up our taste buds. Also, their curries are amazingly flavoured and are very well balanced on spice level as my son enjoyed the food too. We also enjoyed the pista kulfi and the beetroot halwa in deserts, which is their chef's special recipe. Aman was an amazing host, and he looked after all the guests on the floor with attention to detail along with his food suggestions and polite gesture. This will be the restaurant for us to come back again for Indian cuisines.
Absolutely love this place—easily the best Indian restaurant in Teddington and one of my all-time favourites. The food is consistently outstanding (the Lamb Saag is a must-try), cocktails and desserts are top-notch, and the staff are always warm and welcoming. Beautiful décor and great atmosphere. Don’t miss the Indian Sunday Roast. 5 stars every time!
Really good overall. They have lots of great vegan options. The waiter was particularly kind and knowledgeable and told us what could be made vegan on the spot. We also asked for very mild spice. The restaurant is really lovely inside and very welcoming. Pleasant atmosphere and quick service. Excellent price. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for good vegan Indian food in Teddington.
What a jem of a place, we had been staying at a near by hotel and looking on line for something to eat. I kept going back to Roots for dinner and so glad we did. The food was out of this world so delicious, the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The staff were very knowledgeable about, the menu was just about right not over complicated. Cocktails great as well I had a Margarita made with tamarin, ginger ,lime and tequila. Atmosphere was perfect as well.
Best curry I’ve had in years. It was a phenomenal curry, service and vibe. I’m not over exaggerating - this has beaten every butter chicken I’ve ever had. Andddd we had scollops for starter (£15 bit spenny) but soo worth it. You pay for what you get!
What a fantastic addition to Teddington! An amazing Indian restaurant with outstanding food! Very tasty and portions just perfect. Also want to add their range of cocktails suit all and are delicious! Will be back again for sure!
This is excellent restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. The FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! the Butter chicken and garlic naan went down an absolute treat. The waiter also recommended an off the menu Cocktail which was refreshing and tasty. Always a good choice!
Probably the best curry I have had in the area. Not your traditional menu but that made it more appealing to try, and I was not disappointed. I had the Frog Legs to start followed by the Goat Biryani, both of which were outstanding. For dessert I had an Indian take on a bread and butter pudding, delicious. The rest of my family had the chicken tikka masala which they devoured. The service was excellent and the passion for the quality of food they are trying to produce certainly came through when talking with them. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stand out service and food. The food was incredible with so much flavour, fresh locally sourced ingredients and clearly prepared and executed by highly experienced, talented chefs. The staff were so attentive with a real passion for the food they were serving and giving guests an unforgettable dining experience. We had the Sunday Feast Menu. We can’t wait to return!! Thank you.
I’m so excited that Roots opened its doors at Teddington. So proud of my Indian brother Chef Mayur Nagarale the humble owner of such a prestigious restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and the best we have had so far in London. Excellent service by Amaan giving all the details of the dish and its origins. Beautiful ambience and atmosphere was very positive. So looking forward to our next visit to try out some more of their mouth watering dishes. Thank you Mayur for giving us an authentic taste of India taking me back to my roots and childhood days of love for good food. God bless you. 🙏🏼
The whole dining experience was incredible! For a brand-new restaurant, I was very surprised with how great the food and service was. The food is excellent, Not overpowering or overly hot.I found everything well balanced and the ingredients were high quality. We particularly enjoyed the Murgh malai tikka and Duck leg ghee roast, which was well balanced and bursting with flavours at the same time. The service was pretty good. I would highly recommend this to anyone who want to experience true and authentic Indian flavours.
Great addition to Teddington! We enjoyed a lovely dinner on a Saturday here. The atmosphere was great. Well decorated with plenty of tables but not too crammed. The food was delicious and they have a variety of unique dishes that are not the typical curry. We are looking forward to coming back another time.
We were very impressed with Roots Indian Restaurant, great friendly service & extremely knowledgeable staff. We were greeted & seated straightaway & then recommended some dishes. The food is out of this world, nicely presented & unbelievable flavours. The meat was so tender & the sauces were so tasty. The restaurant was nice & busy & was attracting lots of attention from passers by. You have to try Roots, it’s in a different league.
Very beautiful decorated, fine dining flavours and textures of Indian cuisine, offering an array of vegetarian and non vegetarian options. The spice and aromatic dishes left my family and me craving for more making it a must - visit for anyone seeking an authentic Indian cuisine. The drinks were tasting yummilicious too. We had an exceptional dining experience, thanks to Steve’s outstanding service. I personally would highly recommend this place.
I visited my friend in Teddington, he took me his favourite Indian restaurant Roots in main mkt area, I found it very beautiful ambiance, related to Indian culture and Rajasthani vibrant colours.... staff was very attentive and welcome us to given comfortable table , we had Popadum and chutneys to start ....I was very impressed with chutney quality special berries one and sweet potato, also had daal Makhani was authentic , saag also excellent, Garlic naan was perfect, my friend had few grills , all were amazing presented and delicious in taste and I loved their unique dessert tandoori pineapple. Price was very responsible in that elite mkt ,best Indian restaurant in Teddington Recommended to all Indian food lovers
The food is well presented and delicately seasoned. The menu is limited but the dishes are tasty. The goat biryani is excellent and the way it's brought to the table in a pot with a roti crust to keep the food moist is inspirational. The waiter then peels back the crust and a plume of steam escapes allowing you to inhale the divine smells. The chicken tikka starter is served in a similar way, a glass dome filled with steam is lifted from the plate at the table, the meat was so moist and tender, it was a joy to eat. I don't have the words to describe the scallop starter, you'll have to try them yourself. It was a pleasant evening and I'll definitely revisit.
The thing that made our evening, was the service from Aman - he elevated our evening with his excellent service & recommendations. The food itself was fantastic & the ambience was great too. I would thoroughly recommend.
Up there with the best Indian meals I've had in the UK. Service was great, food was devine and the atmosphere was on top form. Small-ish menu, with dishes changing on a regular basis makes this somewhere you'll want to keep coming back to. Loved the 3 types of poppadoms, with fresh chutney! Cocktails weren't bad either 😋
Hidden gem in Teddington. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic - Aman was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The hand painted mural is stunning. The cocktails are very, very good. Can’t wait to go back, would recommend to anyone 10/10!
Second time here. It won't be the last! Chose the special lamb Sunday roast, and we're not disappointed. Every part of the meal was divine - quality cooking brought out the exquisite flavours of every part of the feast. And it was a feast! The service could not be faulted. Highly recommend.
A great restaurant, some of the most interesting Indian food around with complex and rich flavours. Been several times and everyone at the table is always impressed. Staff are always friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself looks great and has a wonderful atmosphere.
Brilliant and tasty food and even better service. Selio was our host and made us feel very welcome, speedy service and gave great recommendations. We will be visiting again soon to try some of the other dishes!
I received excellent and friendly service. All my dishes were fantastic. The waiter was very knowledgeable indeed.
Outstanding food and great service throughout. I’ve visited a few times now, most recently with family for their Sunday set menu. The staff were fantastic with the kids and the food was really tasty! 100% recommend and will be visiting again very soon! Keep up the great work
Having been to many Indian restaurants this by far is the most flavourful and best tasting I have ever had. I highly recommend and highly recommend that you book in advance as it has been very busy the whole evening
My family and I have been numerous times. Most recently for my daughter’s birthday (at her request). The food is of a high quality, with thought to flavours and Aman and his staff are very attentive. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant, as this is our go to Indian restaurant.
amazing indian restaurant. the starters were absolutely delicious, especially the lamb gilafi kebab and the bhajiyas. the samosa chaat was also top notch and the various flavours of the trio chicken were perfectly spiced. The laccha paratha went well with the kolhapuri lamb, which had a nice chilli kick to it. But the starters were definitely the
We went on a Friday night and it was packed, the staff did well to keep everyone happy. We didn’t love the food though, all three mains had similarly very smooth refined sauces and although they had different flavours everything seemed over westernised and on the bland side. Some may love this, but personally I prefer an Indian with more exciting and robust contrasts.
Based on the reviews and the food choices by others in my group, I seemed to have been unlucky. The trio of chicken tikka starters with dry and hard that lacked freshness, whilst the main Delhi butter chicken was over sized pieces of chicken in a bland sauce. The rice and naan were good but the food in this instance was not to their usual standard which is a shame. Venue and atmosphere were still excellent, chef probably had an off day….
