Oh, goodness...y'all. Those ribs! Tender, meaty, perfect. Sausage was yummy. Love the sauce. And their creamed corn is incredible. Oooo, and their fried cabbage...so SO good. We had to waddle out, we enjoyed it like we'd never get to return. But believe me...we WILL be back.
I was on a weekend getaway & got very hungry around dinner time. My 16 year old granddaughter suggested Soulman's, I told her I had not eaten there ever. Make a long story short my husband had me on the phone to take my order with a very nice, friendly, helpful and informative young man by the name of Josh or Justin it was with a J. I promised I would give a review good or bad. That food was the (bomb....off the chain)delicious. Whenever I'm in the area I will be eating the ribs & chop beef thanks to his great hospitality. Pls forgive me for not remembering his name, I am a senior 🤣 ( I request a pay raise for him)
Since last time we were there, they are now charging an upcharge for baked potato in lieu of the 2 sides that regularly come with the plate meals. Also, now charging for small cup for ice cream, if not using a cone. That being said, the food was as good as it always has been.
In from San Antonio absolutely love their barbecue. The fried cabbage is good and the banana pudding is excellent.
Visiting from Maryland and hoping to find a good BBQ joint between Dallas and Shreveport. Loved Soulman's. Great selection of sides including banana pudding, good meat, and a free ice cream cone with purchase of BBQ. Count me in. We pass this place all the time and now it will be a scheduled stop!
Really good barbecue. The brisket, ribs are chicken were very good. I have never said this before, but the sides stole the show. We had fried okra that was really good, mac and cheese was very good, the green beans were probably the best I have ever had and the fried cabbage was the best thing on the plate. I highly recommend this place.
The meat cutter/manager very nice man ….. was super fun to talk to and my experience getting a slab of ribs and a baked potato to go will be something I don’t forget ANYtime soon. He was kind and hilarious. Thank you man!!! I’ll see you next week. Take care of you!
First time coming to this place we always go to the one in Mesquite but we were in the area so decided to eat here for dinner. As soon as we walked in we felt so welcome the girls and cook greeted us. I ordered for me and my husband and we were trying to decide what to get our 5yr old son and the cook was so nice and helpful he cut pieces of meat for my son to try to see what he liked (ham). The cook was so friendly and came to see if our food was good (it was delicious) when we left everyone said goodbye the whole atmosphere was great and the store was very clean. Over all this place gets 5 stars from us we will be coming here when were in the area as we live 40 min away. 😊😊
Soulman yall have won my BBQ loving heart. Me and my husband finally stopped after me passing a few times a year and saying "I show want to try them". Y'all exceeded my expectations. Qe both ordered the three meats he got 2 sides and I got the loaded potato. We still have food left. The food was flavorful and tender. Loved loved loved.Good food and good service makes the best restaurant. 😊 Thanks
Good solid BBQ. Had it delivered and food was still good. Had ribs, pulled pork and wife had turkey sandwich. Ribs had great flavor i wish they were a little bigger but still good flavor. Pulled pork was super moist and great smokey flavor. Turkey was also good and a ton of it for a sandwich. Overall good BBQ.
I loved this place clean and amazing . Although the bake potatoes were my favorite , it was amazing. Overall, very yummy will be coming back to the best soulmans in Texas.
Love me some Soulmans! I have been a loyal customer of this locally owned chain for over 20 years now and I am never disappointed at any location I visit. I had the Double Barrel (a personal favorite) stuffed baked potatoe and it was cooked perfectly and loaded with chopped beef and all the fixins! All topped off with their delicious barbeque sauce...mmm, mmm, good!!
We love this location. The food is always hot and fresh, as well as delicious. The staff are always friendly and go above and beyond to make sure you have a outstanding dinning experience. The manager himself is great as well. Recommend this location to any and all. Great job guys keep up the great work
It took me a minute to figure out the system. You tell them what you want and they fill your plate. Plenty of good BBQ! Leave your plate on the table- they will clean it. The food is perfectly cooked and the portions are big.
Everyone was so friendly, restaurant was clean and food was amazing!
Awesome food ! Generous portions! Good deal with the pulled pork sandwich combo ! If you were going to Bucees for BBQ don't waste your time go just a bit down the road to Soulman's you won't be disappointed! Super clean and extremely nice and helpful staff
Dominique was awesome! I called at 11:01 AM and she answered the phone immediately. She answered all my questions quickly and got my order placed. She had it done and ready on the counter when I arrived in 15 minutes. Please give her a raise! It’s hard to find people who provide such good service!
We stopped here as we were driving through. It was perfect. Nice restaurant with great food and friendly service. This place is great for a quick stop or a long dinner. I had a chopped pork plate with green beans and cabbage. Husband had a two meat plate. The manager was great and gave us a few DELICIOUS ribs to try. The ribs were so tender and juicy! Skip all the fast food establishments and head to Soulman’s! Definitely stopping again if we are ever back in the area.
First time trying Soulman's Bar-B-Que in a long time. But it didn't disappoint. Had the Small Round chopped beef sandwich. Delicious
I just had your ribs and cabbage and tost I am truck driver truck stop only had pizza hut or subway so I got on door dash sure happy that
A great place. Been here many times since I was a kid, but I've got to say my experience with Fani was the best I've ever had! She was so friendly! Make sure you give her a major raise, or at least make sure you don't lose her! She made my entire experience!
Great food. I loved the fried cabbage and mac & cheese. The brisket was moist and tender, very good. Spicy sausage was on point. The best pecan pie I've had in a long time.
First time eating here or at any soulmans bbq, food was good my kids loved the corn dogs and mc&cheese
Fairly good. Very clean and friendly (not that fake nice either). The food is good and the brisket is tender. You're asked if you want more lean or more fat when they cut the brisket! I got water, no particulates in it. The bathroom was clean too. Prices are pretty decent as well.
Large portions, good smoked flavor chicken still juicy, not dried out. I enjoyed the half chicken & had to take more than half of that home. Still good the next day.
Come on now, if you don't like traditional Texas BBQ, somethings not right! This place is spot on everything you ever want and it hits the spot! From there straight up barbecue to smokes brisket baked potato to a simple smoked chicken sandwich and some chips or some fries they have it all and they know how to cook! Give it a shot! I promise you will not be disappointed! Their customer service is spot on and they know how to make sure you are taken care of!
I have gone to a few soul men barbecue location because of me being over the road, (Truck Driver) and have not been impressed with their barbecue. I generally ordered the hot links and call it a day. At this location, everything looked really fresh and so I took a chance and ordered the barbecue, a half slab and I can truly say out of all of the locations that I’ve been to this one was tender. It had lots of flavor and the barbecue sauce was on point. Today is Tuesday about 4 o’clock. No one was in there so it wasn’t like it was busy. Even the green beans was fresh and didn’t taste like it had been sitting for a day. I won’t name the other locations but the ribs generally look and taste like they were cook a day or two early and reheated. I can’t say u might receive fresh meat on ur visit but thank u for giving me a great experience now I see what people mean about it bar b que.
I was very impressed by how the manager maintained this location. The staff was all incredibly friendly and even the manager spoke to the customers directly and was very accommodating. The food here is way better than most chain BBQ places. If I am ever near a Soulman's again I would absolutely stop in.
We eat here fairly frequently. Sometimes dine in, sometimes to go. I have not gotten anything I didn't like! BBQ is pricy no matter where you go, but they give generous portions that provide 2 meals per plate for my husband and I, which justifies the cost. Service is always friendly and helpful. Very family-friendly atmosphere.
Wife has to stop here for Mac-n-cheese Everytime we pass by. Brisket and ribs are good too.
Great food hot and ready ,great friendly staff always a pleasure to eat at soul mans.
The BBQ baked potato with brisket was awesome! I would get extra BBQ sauce ...i like it drowning. But so good and if you eat there ...there's free ice cream 🍦 😋
Damn... damn... damn... as a truck driver the majority of my meals are from a microwave or my electric skillet. But this place, always elevates the bbq game. Not just with their selection of meats, but the staff as well. I will definetly be back!!
My all new favorite Soulmans. The absolute best service and brisket of any location i have been too. The young dark haired mgr guy or butcher whatever he is,is great with people, makes your experience here very pleasant. Thank you young man...
Awesome food! Friendly staff! A bit pricey. Got 3 meat. Walking distance from ExxonMobil if you're a truck driver and need a place to park.
Hubby and I stopped before our Spartan Race in Glen Rose tomorrow. The food was amazing, (fall off the bone/tender) and the staff was super friendly! Our favorites were the ribs, pork and the stuffed potato called a double barrel ❤️ Very laid back and clean restaurant. Will come back again if we are ever in Terrell again!
Soulman's BBQ is amazing. I got it to go and didn't have to eat it until about 40 minutes later. Guess what??? It still tasted good lukewarm. That's when you know it was good BBQ. I ordered the three meat plate with hot links (they were spicy), sliced beef, and ribs. All were good. The BBQ sauce is a little too sweet for my tastes, but it's good. I ordered the spicy potatoes (would not order again) and the cabbage. The cabbage was awesome! I will be back.
I’ve been coming here for the past 12 years now. I’m a truck driver that lives in California but every time I’m in Texas mainly Dallas I have to stop here. My wife and my doctor may not like it but this is my bad habit. barbecue and I only barbecue great barbecue there’s plenty of parking for trucks or RVs. These guys are really great. Atmospheres is great. And don’t forget to drink the sweet tea. Thanks guys for being consistent for the past 45 years may God bless you and keep on making great barbecue.
Staff: Amazing! Super friendly and super nice, always willing to chat it up with me and tell some jokes. I love stuff like that Food: When I was eating it, super yummy and I was really enjoying my meal. Aftermath: I really wasn't enjoying that so much, if you get my drift. That's why they lost a star.... Sorry
Everything was sweet n taste great. Portion control out da window cuz they give more than ya money's worth... mosdef going back
The food was good. Great tasting meat! We ordered take-out. I ordered the soul bowl?, it came with Fritos, they under the beans and meat. Unfortunately by the time we got home, the Fritos were very soggy, it was like eating cornmeal. Not good at all. My suggestion would be, when a order is take-out, put the Fritos in a separate container or bag, that way they'll be crunchy and not gross. My daughter loved the Frontier Fries.
Good food nice people. I ordered the 3 meat plate my ribs and hot link were fantastic. This place kinda has a fast food feel to it but food is very good not fast food like at all. French fries are also really good. I didnt really enjoy the brisket but then again what do I know about brisket I'm from california. Look forward to returning and trying something else.
Great food! Good service. The two young ladies (one serving and one cashier) great smiling faces!!! Unfortunately the manager had a long face, and was cut and dry, with everyone, not just me. It would be awesome to get smiles along with Great Food!
Food was good but service just a bit slow. Glad only a couple in line. The fried cabbage and all the sides were a nice surprise. The brisket was moist and the sausage pretty good. Daughter like the ham and BBQ.
along! Met our son here since was a half way point between the DFW metropolis and where he lives. We enjoyed a late lunch (which was good food. Son left nothing on his plate!), good talk and visit with him after not seeing him for so long. We were relaxed and the staff was very polite.
I give them a strong 3 to 4 depending on whatever is going on behind the scenes..which is just to say that they aren't consistent. It seems like certain categories of menu items have a case of the Monday sometimes. Like, dry and bad enough to vow on one day never to eat there again, yet you get lured back again and they knock one out of the park. I mean no offense by any of this, just an observation. Maybe short staffed some days?
It's not mind blowing BBQ but it definitely holds up. I had brisket and sausage, but I doubt there's a wrong choice. The chicken looked good. The service is great. I got FOMO about the sides I chose. I wished I would have asked the person serving what they thought the best sides were. Baked Mac&cheese and spicy potatoes were good though. Banana pudding was solid. Would absolutely go again.
Pretty good BBQ especially for the price. You can't go wrong. I had the pulled pork and brisket. Very good with the spicy sauce. I would definitely go back again.
I had a 3 meat plate- ribs (was given 2), sausage, and brisket. I had double green beans for a side (im on keto- the other sides looked good). The ribs were tender. The brisket had no visible smoke ring but was tender. The sausage was good. My only complaint is the portion size for $28 with a drink was rather small. I do understand margins and food cost, but if you have to go ahead and raise the price. I left hungry.
Food is usually always good. Service is aways quick because you go thru the line and your order is made while you watch. I do wish they put more toppings on the loaded shotgun potato and have they ever thought of having the beans on a hotbar for free? Just a thought ~
Texas BBQ is always a hit. I want to be greedy when I eat bbq because the menu here was really good. Clean establishment, friendly service and fast. Reasonable prices for the amount of food you are served. Everything was hot and tasted really good, I would come back here while passing through Texas again.
Gave this place a second chance. Good staff. Clean resteraunt. Absolutely flavorless BBQ. Brisket tasted like water. No smoke flavor at all, or even the taste of meat. Sausage had a small amount of flavor, but seemed oven cooked. The beans, creamed corn, and toast were the best part of my $20 plate. I was pleased to get a free ice cream cone though.
We are from Kansas City Missouri and if you don't know we are in a battle with Texas for the best BBQ. While I think Texas has some great BBQ, I'm not sure Soulman's is it. However they do many things right. - Great customer service - Very clean resturant - Quick service even late at night - Decent meat that is not to fatty I think that Soulman's is what you would expect from a "fastfood" BBQ chain. Its not crazy expensive, its fast and it likely tastes the same everything.
Had catering order ro pick up at 11:15. Called at 11:00 Just to see if it was ready a little early. Very rude lady said it would be ready when we said it would be. Spent about 200.00 on order....Need to work on your Customer Service skills. Will not use again because of Bad Customer Service.
On 2 separate occasions, I received poor customer service here. First time it was teenagers working, so I just figured a lack of maturity and lack of work experience. This time, it was grown men and one I believe to be the manager. They were constantly talking to other employees; therefore, I had to repeat my order three times and still ended up with a short order. The manager was on the phone sharing prices, instead of waiting on the customer in front of them. For $50 for 2 plates & 2 sandwiches, I would expect a side of attention.
We were greeted with friendly service when we walked into the restaurant. The pulled pork and chopped beef were moist and smoked perfectly. Overall it was an Excellent visit! ****UPDATE**** We came back the following week, this time through the drive thru and that was a mistake! DO NOT USE THERE DRIVE THRU! You will wait for an hour at the speaker just to place your order.
I ordered 2 plates 1-2 meat plate and 1-3 meat plate When I opened the carton of food I noticed that the ribs were about the width of a stick of gum and how skimpy of meat we received. So I decided to weigh the meat and not to my surprise they were the same weight. Did not receive our toast. When we dine in the portions are much better. I feel ripped off
Thjs was Saturday 10/29/22 at around 2pm. The people serving the food were great. But two things ruined it for us. There weren't many people in the restaurant, but every single table was nasty with food and trash. We had to clear a table before we could sit down and eat. And the biggest problem I had was with the young female at the cash register. She couldn't be bothered because she had her iPods in her ears and wouldn't even look at us. We will just fight the I-80 traffic and go to the one in Mesquite from now on.
Clean friendly place, but the food was lacking. Brisket tasted like it was boiled no smoke flavor or smoke ring. Sausage I believe it was cooked in an oven. Kind of greasy ribs were OK. Still had really no flavor. Cabbage was good as well as the corn. Waited two days to get here (because I’m a truck driver from Texas). Can’t say I am wanting to come back to eat. I understand they have to cook for the public and not the individual, but you gotta have some type of flavor in it. You all need to invest in a smoker grill.
Brought family here from out of state and was totally disappointed in the quality and quantity. Going through the line all vegetables had a hard top like they had not been stirred for several hours. The quantity of meat and small vegetables for the price was awful. The girls serving were not friendly. This Terrell location has really gone downhill. Take the extra drive to Royse City it's worth it.
Well, let me start by saying that it wasn't bad but also not great. The pinto beans they say are spicy were not, the potato salad was more like mashed potatoes with the flavor. There were several bugs flying around, so it was hard trying to eat because I was swatting them away from my food.
The food received was good but placed Order online for company guests April 19th for 11 meals and 1 meal did not receive. Called to request the missing meal but the person on the phone argued that we had received the meal. In order to keep our guests happy I had to order another meal. Very poor customer service, only reason for 2 is that food received was good
We were visiting the area from Minnesota staying in the local Hotel, and it must have been the manager ( bearded heavy set guy) that waited on us. He acted as if we were an inconvenience. The place was totally empty. A blonde lady with glasses ended up helping us. She was fantastic and should probably be the manager. We spent well over a 100.00. The food was ok, the links needed a lil char otherwise they had no flavor. If we did come back it would be because of the blonde lady.
We ordered $350 worth of food and they wouldn't even include plates or silverware. If we were ordering for an individual we would be given plates and silverware so why is this any different. They tried to charge us 20 dollars for plates and plastic ware. On top of that we had crummy service, they were rude, and we didn't even get everything we paid for. Even talking to the managers solved nothing. They truly don't even deserve the one star. I hope corporate staff sees this and pushes this Soulman's to the standard I have come to enjoy at other locations.
The food was cold and we say something to the manager and they don't even know wats the right temperature for food works service in my life no more you lost me and my family
I called them early this week about getting my turkey smoked for thanksgiving and they told me no problem just bring it in a day in advance, make sure it’s thawed out and not expired. I called them today because I’m having thanksgiving Sunday not on Thursday and they said they stopped taking orders yesterday. How can they do that? I can understand if I was having it on Thursday when they would probably be busier but not a week before thanksgiving. I do not recommend this place. They should of told me that the first time I called that they have a cutoff day. They have some of theirs that I could buy of course. I have my own I don’t want theirs. We did buy a ham their last year and it was horrible and expensive. I said last year that I would not make that mistake again.
“We’re not stingy with our meat” yet they give me like 2 pieces of ribs and was missing part of my order. Customer service here is horrible. Rather go the extra mile and go to Forney.
This is the first time I've ever been to this place. I ordered ribs and sausage. The ribs were so dry it was almost like eating jerky. It was awful. I don't wonder if they served us days old ribs. Two other coworkers of mine said the same thing. The sausage was fine. My mashed potatoes and green beans was the best party of my meal but it wasn't worth the price. I won't go back and won't recommend this place.
Hate the fact you ask for chopped beef but they grind it, why ? To make it appear to be a bigger portion ???
Today is 11-24-21 at 10:55am. I order by phone at this location all the time but today, the the person, a female, claiming to be the manager was short with me and kind of rude when I asked to place an order to be picked up. She basically said she did not have time to take my small order and to come in and wait. I was going to order several meats by the pound with sides to feed 4 people, not plates. Even when I explained it was not plates, she told me to come in and wait because they were too busy with catering right now to take my order. I get it....your busy. no need to tell a repeat customer who usually spends $55-$100 on BBQ each visit that you don't have time for them.
This saddens me to write this, I really like their food. But their customer service is lacking. I went to pick up an order I made online. They said they didn't have it and rudely suggested I sent it to the wrong location. After a little bit of back and forth they reset their device. And it popped right up. No one ever apologized. They told me they were already putting it together. I had to wait 30 more minutes for them to put my order together. Then she rudely brought my food and walked away not saying a word. Very disappointed.
We went tonight to get a 3 meats plate, we asked for ribs. The guy who slices the meat, I think his name is Mani, told me “ not today”. Then I walked to the back to get my drink and I saw a lady eating ribs. I went to him and he apologized, even though he lied to me about the ribs and the other girl working with him, by the way very rude!, she said that the guy doesn’t control how often the meat is read to be serve. At list they could have said like there were some ribs coming soon or something but stead he told no ribs. I feel like we were discriminated just because I look Hispanic and they did served ribs to the this white lady. On top on that as we were walking out of the place they were laughing like making fun of me. VERRY UNPROFESSIONAL BAD SERVICE AND RUDE!! Very disappointed on this place never coming back. They don’t deserve any stars. If you want a real delicious food and excellent service, you need to go to Soulman’s in Mesquite, TX the one on Gross Road.
I had to call to get them to take my drive through order. Then after repeating it twice she said. One to the window and I will take it. Went to window and had to wait over 10 min. Only 1 car in front of me
The quality has gone down a lot! Today my husband went to get a rib, as he always does on Sundays , and he got some hard and dry pieces, as if they were leftovers from the week that they heated up and sold to us! Not even my dog wanted to eat them! 😒👎
Manager is the rudest person who has ever ran a restaurant. Guy tried to pick a fight with me about trash in his parking lot. Said the person that put stuff in parking lot had a similar car to mine, so I guess he was picking fights with anyone with a gray car. The food is barley passible, only reason I went there is a because it has a drive through. On average you have to wait 10-15 minutes for someone to come to the speaker (I guess they're too busy watching customers). The meat is slab of fat, the fries are gross, and God help you if you don't ask for pickles at the speaker. They'll ream you for asking. If you want good BBQ go to Bucees down the road. The sandwiches are bigger, cheaper, and taste better, oh and above all else the manger won't try to pick a fight. If you look at the reviews you'll see most of the one stars are from the past few months and all say the same, rude service, poor quality food, and so on. Place is probably going to close. Hope they enjoy their super clean parking lot because there is hardly anyone there any more. Needless to say I will never go back and pay for overpriced poor quality meat.
My Daughter treated me for Mother's Day & I was very disappointed!! ☹️ Second time We've noticed 👀 the paper thin slices of Brisket!! Portions are LESS also! WE'RE PAYING! We're NOT asking for handouts!!😡 😱🔍 What happened to "We're NOT stingy with our meat slogan?!" 🧐 Absolutely RIDICULOUS what everybody is doing to the everyday Consumer!! Paying MORE GETTING LESS!! That will be our last visit to this location. Take our business & 💵💸 ELSEWHERE!! SOULMAN'S; DO BETTER!! 😡👎
I really do not know how good the food was because I only ate a few bites before I discovered a long black hair in my coleslaw. I took the food back to the counter. They offer to replace it but quite frankly I had lost my appetite.
This is more like a fast food bbq. Kinda like Taco Bell’s Mexican food… naw. The ribs were just ok at best. The sliced brisket wasn’t like any brisket I ever seen, two bites and to the trash it went. The creamed corn was good. The potato salad HORRIBLE, I might as well just eaten a tablespoon of mustard. I couldn’t even eat it. A name like “SOULmans”, I figured it would be some really good bbq. First and last time I’ll spend money at that place. 👎
I usually go to the Soulmans in Mesquite but visiting the one in Terrell will never happen again...The girl in the drive thru followed no instructions of my order even when I repeated it 3 times, she wasnt friendly at all , then when she gave my order it was still missing items, repeated what she forgot in my bag, she slammed the window went back to get what was missing and still forgot something AGAIN, still had attitude and when I got home food was dried out, old and burnt, no cheese, no sauce...just a waste of $21 and they will NEVER see me again..I ended up trashing the food and eating a bowl of cereal...No excuses when they are a stand alone restaurant that wasnt even that busy.
Came to the drive thru and waited no one answered. Closing time is 9pm and it was 7:56 when we pulled up. Went around to the window and waited another 2-3 minutes and the young black girl came to the window never opened it, but stood there texting on her phone. Then turned and walked away. Very rude and disrespectful. Customer service terrible and we come here quite often. There was another man that looked our direction and never walked over. Better training is needed and also no phones while working needs to be told to your employees. So very sad
We ordered takeout for my parents because they did not want to cook today and its their anniversary, we didn’t check the food until we got home. When we were about to eat the brisket was horrible, it looked weird and we didn’t even know if it was brisket. It was all grease and the meat was in circles. At this point I don’t even think it deserves one star. The brisket was terrible.
Went here thinking that it would be like the other soulman restaurants but it really wasn’t. I asked for a three meat plate . I was told that I had to get three different meats in stead of what I really wanted. The quantity is horrible I mean small quantities two ribs and a small child’s hand full of briskets and turkey as well . It is not worth the price I paid . I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
