Enormous bowls of fantastic ramen. Served piping hot, the bowls were huge and packed with flavor. I appreciated the vegetarian corn ramen dish. Ordered mild spicy and it was plenty spicy for me. Our server was delightful! She was welcoming and helpful and seemed actually interested in our opinion of the dishes we ordered, the corn and miso ramen bowls. The menu is limited but fantastic!
Very popular, got thre at 5 pm on a Sunday for their 5:15 pm opening and there were 28 people already ahead of me. Fortunately, they have a total of about 33 seatings. Waited 30 min. for my ramen (understandably, since everyone went in at the same time). Service was good, attentive! Ordered their special garlic pork belly ramen with medium spaciness. The soup base was excellent, not very greasy like many others, tasty, flavorful! The pork belly was cooked well, but not too soft, good texture, not too fatty. The noodles were al dente! Overall, a really delicious bowl of ramen. Also got the takoyaki, fried well, tender inside, the sauce was way too salty, but the dry fish flakes were a great addition!
One of the most delicious broths I had ever had, I always end up drinking all of it. The broth has a rich thickness to it I have not found anywhere else. This place easily became my favorite ramen spot, I am going to miss not living as close it it anymore. 10/10 (additional parking along the back near the train tracks)
My wife and I were in the area for some last minute Christmas shopping, and we wanted to get something warm for the weather. I haven't had Ramen Dojo since approximately 2015(?) so it had been long overdue. I remember it being really good a decade ago. I ordered the garlic pork tonkotsu and my wife had the creamy corn. I also added a fried soft shell crab. Both of our broths were really rich and savory. We were initially skeptical about the corn broth, but it was interesting; it didn't have a strong corn taste but you could definitely tell it was there. My pork tonkatsu was pretty standard, not in a bad way but not in a way the stands out from any other ramen shop. My only complaints would be that the serving size is a little small, the standard toppings are a little skimp, and the broth was a little too salty for our taste. Despite the nitpicky things we still enjoyed our meal and it was a nice warm lunch on a cold winter day. While my nostalgia probably carried my fondness for this ramen shop all these year, maybe times have changed everything and I'm just now noticing. Either way I will definitely make my way back again.
I'm obsessed with Ramen Dojo! Being just 15 minutes from my place, I finally took the plunge and tried it after months of recommendations. The service is great, and the Ramen is AMAZING! I've tried 4 different plates, and each one is a favorite. I'm hooked now - definitely worth checking out!
5-Stars for the stellar service—the lady that attended me was very considerate, knowledgeable and energetic and set the mood for the dinner vibes. Also, her suggestion of special ramen was right on point. The pork and egg was cooked to perfection and the broth is rich. I enjoyed my ramen very much so. Good quality of music!
One of the best ramen places in San Mateo! Flavorful soup, well-textured noodles, and well-cooked toppings. Soup is very similar to Ramen Parlor and Santa Ramen (all owned by the same owner). It used to be a lot more difficult to get a seat, but due to the explosion of dining options in San Mateo, it’s much easier to get a seat in the small, intimate venue. Plenty of street parking or in the lot behind the restaurant. Fast and friendly service.
Cozy, nice small restaurant which can accommodate up to 36 people. You can easily find parking around the blocks. I went at noon on Monday and the place was 75% full. I was seated quickly at the bar area and my order was taken within 5 minutes. My ramen was served within the next 10 minutes. I got #5 on their new menu, the soft-shelled crab with garlic pork tonkotsu soup. It’s very flavorful and savory. The soft-shelled crab is to die for and the noodles have that right balance of softness and tenderness. Overall, very pleasant experience.
Took the family for the first time for a Saturday lunch. Got lucky with no line for a party of 5. We ordered pork garlic with pork belly and extra noodles. It was very filling meal. We had no spicy, mild, and med spicy. All delicious. Service was outstanding. Street parking was pretty easy. Can’t wait to come back.
In a competitive space, this is a shining star!! 🌟 Huge bang for your buck with even bigger flavors. Very straightforward menu that comes out very quickly. Loved our service and the atmosphere of this restaurant. Highly recommend checking out - they advertise a 2018 Michelin on their door and it’s rightfully deserved.
There was a lot of hype around Ramen Dojo, so I had very high expectations coming into the restaurant. I came on a weekend around 12:45pm and there was about 10 parties ahead of me. The restaurant only fits about 36 people, but I though the line would be quick since I came by myself; I was wrong. I waited close to 45 minutes until I was seated. But once I was seated, the service was quick and efficient to take my order and bring in my bowl of fresh, steamy ramen. I ordered the spicy garlic pork broth ramen with pork belly. Oh my goodness, this ramen was incredible! The broth was just a tad rich and creamy, and there were two garlic cloves that added amazing flavor to the broth. The pork belly was easily the best I've ever had. It was so tender and juicy that I had to hold myself back from eating it all in one bite. The noodles were also delicious, although I prefer the noodle to be a little chewier. They also add quail egg which is a perfect touch to a fantastic bowl of ramen. Ramen Dojo does indeed live up to the hype, and it's no wonder it's one of the best ramen restaurants in the Bay Area.
We arrived around 11:20 and luckily didn’t have to wait. If you don’t like to wait in line, come right when they open is highly recommended. I love their pork garlic flavor ramen. The soup was really good. And I also tried the pork belly, and it was beyond my expectations! On my next visit to San Mateo, I’ll probably try again!
Enjoyed the soft shell crab ramen but this place is definitely NOT on the best list of ramen places I've visited. It's a pretty small restaurant although it fills up when we went during lunch time on a weekend and there were people waiting outside the door although we were never rushed to leave the table. The kitchen is very small so they're churning out pretty standard cookie cutter ramen dishes in an assembly line like fashion. As for the ramen itself, the noodles are freshly cooked which is quite enjoyable. (You can see the chef in the back drop the noodle to order). Noodle portions were a little small considering the price. Even the extra serving of noodle is not as generous as I was expecting. There is a choice of broths (mostly meat based) but they recommended the pork broth which I chose medium spicy which was a very moderate spice level but it was good for my taste. The soft shell crab ramen is considered a special so it has a preset topping list including a slice of pork belly, short shell crab (frozen and deep fried), egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, garlic. It was nice to satisfy my soft shell crab craving but ultimately frozen and deep fried crab can only meet my expectations so far. Aside from that everything was pretty good but doesn't meet what I would consider the best or excellent ramen shops in the Bay Area.
Pretty good ramen. I like this place better than the new trendy spots in downtown Sam Mateo. It’s a tiny place and we arrived before noon so only had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Prices are a bit wierd. Adding an egg is $3.50, Sam prices as adding crab??? The crab is tiny though Service could be friendlier but there was only one person working in the dining area.
The food at the other ramen spot close to this is much better according to my friends and I. This place gives ramen which the veggies being fridge cold. Their vegetarian ramen is extremely mediocre
Used to be good, but not anymore. It’s cheap to force quail eggs on people for ramen and they’re not even remotely as tasty as regular soft boiled chicken eggs. I could tell that the ramen was hastily assembled as the boiled spinach was still cold even though the broth was piping hot. The noodles were too al dente for my taste and the broth mostly tasted bland and oily/peppery. Way, way better options in San Mateo, with much less of a wait and better service. Steer clear if you have had nostalgic feelings for Dojo; the charm is all gone.
