Love this restaurant! Taco Tuesday deals are great. We order every Tuesday and will continue to order. The Rio Salad is enough for 2 meals. Their menu has nutritional information, so if you are watching your sodium, carbs, or calories, you can adjust accordingly. Wish they had some locations in Baltimore.
These gals killed it!! They served us 15 minutes before closing. We are from out of state. I asked for a Smothered burrito. The lady said "I've never heard your request said like that " ... (that's how we ask for it in Utah where Cafe Rio originated 1997). Great food and service. They were totally ok with us staying after hours to chat and deal with our kiddos!!
Great salads! My favorite is the classic sweet pork barbacoa. I get it with the house dressing. I love it that they put a fresh made flour tortilla with cheese on the base and let me choose the ingredients. Home run every time!
Want to give a special shout out to a manager named Willy. The man is managing the joint like a pro with hardly any staff to support him. My wife changed her mind on her order after it was already made and Willy gladly swapped out the order for what my wife wanted. I have been going to Cafe Rio for many years even before they franchised and were a small operation in Salt Lake City and this location does a great job living up to the quality control that this franchise expects.
Great service! Burrito with the pork is really filling and tasty. The store made drinks are also very good - particularly the Horchata and the Mango Lemonade
Best Mexican fast food available anywhere! The customer service you receive is beyond expectation. Very fresh and healthy food menu.
When you're in the mood for some sweet pulled pork, this is the place to go. They have a specific take on Mexican food that just hits the spot, just like In N Out, The Habit, or Five Guys have their take on burgers that satisfies a specific taste. Their location is always clean and staff is great. We've been here many times and they're really good with producing quality meals with fresh ingredients. They can recreate the same meal time after time with the same consistency each time you go. The only variance that I've ever really seen is that the "hot" sauce sometimes has a little more or less kick than other times - It's always good though. If you're going for the first time, these are two of my favorites: the Sweet Pork Burrito, "Enchilada style" and the Sweet pork Salad with extra pico de gallo. The reality is that no matter what you get, you'll be happy with it.
1st timer. Lunchtime. Kind of like a Chipotle -where you pick what you want for your meal but this has completely different options. The burrito bowl looked good, I went for enchiladas and they were great. I had chicken and pork, both seemed like they were seasoned in sweet juices - which was great for me, but some others may not like it. 4 different salsas - yum! Reminder: this is a fast food type Mex restaurant that serves good food for what it is :) I will definitely go back!
I go every Tuesday for tacos, it's just great on Tuesday. Never had anything else but two taco combos. If you order Guac make sure they give you the bigger container at $2.50 it's still expensive but sometimes they try and give you the small container, just not worth the price that way... Sunny forget the side of sour cream, less than $1. Horchata is good, staff friendly...
They met my vegan request without hesitation
Cafe Rio is my go to when I am in Thousand Oaks. It is comfort food for me. Everythibg is fresh and made in front of you.. their salad is a must try!
I love this place. I was saddened when the location on Fallbrook closed. My favorite meal is the Nachos. Soft and Crispy chips, loaded with cheese and delicious topping
Doris has OUTSTANDING customer service!! We traveled from across the country and this is one of our favorite spots! Thank you for delicious food and wonderful service!
The staff was friendly, the service was quick and the food was delicious!!! The sweet pork salad is my go to. One thing I do to make it my own is adding a little salsa fresca as my dressing. Can't eat there without getting a DELICIOUS tres leches cake. (we tipped it over in the car on the way home so the whipped cream doesn't look pretty in the picture but it was just as delicious) For young kids they offer a "Nino quesadilla" a plain quesadilla with an orange slice for free. My girls have always loved it. Now as they're older they get kid's meals instead.
Food was amazing!we are a family of 6 and we all enjoyed the food.we love the horchata and strawberry lemonade they are very natural and delicious.😋.i got the enchilada style burrito it was AMAZING! we would recomend 100%

I've been here dozens of times and it's always great. Love Cafe Rio and the menu selection. The staff is great and the restaurant is clean. This one has a nice outdoor seating area next to a fountain as well.
I ordered a burrito bowl that came with a side of tortillas... It was so good!! I liked that I could customize the bowl exactly how I like it, I got double beans instead of rice and the shredded chicken, I was able to get the lettuce on the side which was nice, I don't like wilted lettuce so most places I usually just get none but this was perfect!! I ordered online and picking up my order was a breeze! There was a bit of a line when I arrived (1pm, lunch time!) and was able to skip the line, grab my order and go. I got a $5 coupon for signing up for their program but the bowl was already only $10.50 so it's a really good bargain lunch
I love Cafe Rio. I came to the Thousand Oaks location on Moorpark Road. There food is great and better than Chipotle. The staff is very kind and professional. My only issue is that the mens restroom was disgusting. It looks like they haven't cleaned the restroom in over a week. Also the outside tables were disgusting as well. Trash, food, under the tables which of course attracts flies and bugs.
My favorite and most frequented restaurant! I get a bowl here almost every other day. Great Mexican food, and a good portion at an affordable price! The atmosphere is nice and there is plenty of parking.
Ordered a large catering nacho bar for my son's birthday party today. It was ready on time, everyone absolutely loved it, and we had more than enough food. It was so good! A wonderful employee went over the whole order to make sure it was all there and even helped me carry everything to the car. Fantastic service and delicious food!
Amazing place, we've been here twice, the food and ambience are great, and even better is the service. Sharon who was preparing the meals said to a guest in front of us when they asked if they could mix the meat, "You are paying, you can have whatever you want". She also provided sample meats to a guest when they asked how they were, Ive never seen that before. Just incredible! Almost forgot, their tortillas looked incredible, I asked if they make them here, she and she said they do and proceeded to show me the equipment that they use to make them each morning.
Great service and good food. I placed an order online and when I arrived it wasn't ready yet, understandable because there was a bit of a line and it was probably dinner rush! The kind woman prepping the to-go orders acknowledged me right away and took care of my order with a lot of care and attention. One of the best customer service experiences I've had in a while.

Great food. Make sure you bring a friend to share. Every portion is giant size. But it's worth it! Employees are pleasant and if you're a regular they get to know your order. Love this place!
Good food, definitely has it's own flavor. On the high side price wise for what it is, over $50 for 4 meals, no drinks. The hatch chili pork was more sweet than spicy. Sweet pork got high marks.
Horchata is fantastic. Tortillas are fresh made - thicker and more full flavored then your standard pre-bagged stuff. Tortilla chips were minimally seasoned but well salted and worked well with salsa. Guacamole was good today too. I had the pork barbacoa burrito and that was tasty, but a little sweet. Next time I do the pork I'd probably ask for more cheese or a spicier salsa to pare that down. Portion sizes are big, neither my wife nor myself could finish our lunch. Next time we agreed we should split something and try one of their desserts.
First of all i have always loved their food so i knew what to expect and i was not disappointed. We had the salad with the freshly made flour tortilla with a combination of shredded pork and beef, it was delicious and filling. My brother got their steak burrito enchilada style and it was huge, he couldn't finish it all 😋 service was very friendly and extremely fast which i was surprised but welcome nonetheless. There are a few tables outside so proper social distance can be followed if you want to dine in but most people do take out or curb side pick up. There's plenty of parking as well. My only gripe if you can call it that is that this location is so far away from my house that I have to drive 45 minutes 😢🤣
I ordered the sweet pork Barbacoa burrito, it was big. It was yummy, and the tortilla they used was good and thick. You order at the counter and they make it assembly-line style. The employees were very friendly. We sat outside on the patio, it was a really nice day.
HUGE portions. Great flavors. Friendly staff. One employee made my daughter a free mini quesadilla. Only thing I didn’t care for was the Barbacoa, it was too sweet for my liking, but it is advertised as being sweet. The Tomatillo dressing is very good.
Love coming for Taco 🌮 Tuesdays! Such a great deal!
Nice staff, clean, and food was good. A lot like Chipotle but the beans at this place are much better but i prefer the rice at Chipotle. Still good though. Restroom is pretty decent. I would come back. Plenty of parking.
Really good Mexican food, if a little pricey. The sweet pork is excellent! Really enjoyable. The staff will sing to you if you're a first-timer, which is fun and silly. But prepared to set down $15 for a burrito and drink. I'll definitely be back, though.

I love Cafe Rio and was so happy to have one open near my daughter’s house in Thousand Oaks. The staff was friendly and efficient and we moved rapidly through the very long line. The three stars were for the shrunken size of my full sized carne asada salad. It was much smaller than the typical salad at a slightly higher price. I was disappointed and hopefully they will adjust their standards to meet the expected size in the future.
I ordered on the app and it said ready by 6:10pm. I got there at 6:15 and they didn't even start the order yet and said it would be 10 min. 25 min after I still didn't get my order. I asked why so long and they were short handed on Taco Tuesday. So I got my order 50 min after ordering. I could have just walked in and got in line and had my meals in 10min. They obviously cater to the immediate need vs online orders. Should have a dedicated person for online. The food is good but not that good. I will never order on app again. They shouldn't have it if not prepared to hire for it.
A little more expensive than Chipotle, they still charge for. Hips on top od that, and the hottest sauces weren't that hot. For vegetarian burrito I would expect more veggies selections, but the tortilla that wrapped the burrito made up for the taste.
I visited here around 8pm. Was originally going to get taco combo plate until i saw their food line and got the tortilla soup instead. The chicken tortilla soup was so delicious and fresh. I tried one of the tuesday specials with beef. It was okay not a fan of the thick tortillas, especially if the marinated juice gets my taco soggy on one side.
Similar in format to Chipotle, this is fast casual Mexican with a more authentic flare. My beef bowl was topped off by more toppings than I could count. All of which went down my hatch both spicily and smoothly with mint limeade. The staff was polite and informative in helping me navigate through the system that was both new and familiar. There were Daily Specials, except for some reason not on Monday? As I ate, I enjoyed the food. I went from loving it, to mostly liking it. I sense that there was a better menu selection I could have chosen. I also do enjoy Chipotle for what it is, and I like Mexican food. This place is in the middle. A “good enough”middle, that’s got me reasonably satisfied and curious to try again at some point.

I ordered the nachos with shredded chicken, my husband ordered a burrito with barbacoa. Large nacho portion & meat had a nice flavor. Burrito fell apart as soon as he picked it up and they had to re-wrap it not once but 2x and it was still not wrapped properly. 2 entrees, 2 fountain drinks, and a bag of chips = $40 holy crap.

Lived the fresh Tortillas and the Salsa was very good. Vegetarians are absolutely screwed at Cafe Rio! Basically, Rice, bean, and lettuce for $12+. My humble request to Cafe Rio management is to look into “impossible” meat and grilled vegetable option!
Tried it for the first time today. My wife had the tostada with grilled chicken. We paid over $10 for a regular size fried corn tortilla with lettuce, one small container of dressing, a dollop of rice and maybe a quarter ounce of cheese.. I had a burrito, the tortilla was undercooked, I asked for hot salsa and got the mildest one instead. I requested the Chile roasted beef, the server didn't know which one was beef. By the time I got my food, 7, possibly 8 people had handled it. Sort of like Chipotle, and they have been closed repeatedly for food born illnesses.
An upside down salad? It’s possible. Lettuce on top. Scraps of chicken and the Cotija cheese on the bottom along with a quarter of a scoop of guacamole. What a waste of points and money. Do better. This salad was a joke and gross

They couldn’t make a burrito that would stay together. Picked up and feel apart, three times in a row. Food was good though.
The food is okay! I only give this a 2 stars because the prices are inconsistent. I ordered the exact same thing twice and the second time I was charged more. Also if you download the app you get rewards. My only complaint about that is that they make it really confusing. I lost out on two rewards because it is simply not user friendly. Kinda of feels like a scam. I don’t think I will be ordering from the again.

Me and my wife are originally from Utah and grew up eating at Cafe Rio. I have never had a bad experience till I came to this Thousand Oaks Location. We showed up and there was 20 plus people working in the back with 5 customers and the line still took 20 minutes for us to order. Then when we get to order the food the girl making the tortillas was making them too thin that you could almost see through them. Then the guy making the tacos kept breaking the shell and moving slow. They next person in line was throwing on cheese and lot of it without asking what kind of cheese or if we would like any at all. I know that’s not a big deal but every other cafe rio does. Then she coated the grill in a layer of oil so thick that bugs could swim in it, and she walked across the room holding cheese in her hand then putting on tortillas(that’s very unsanitary considering there’s a deadly virus in this state). Then we got our rice and beans and paid, when we sat down and ate, the taco shells where so oily from the lady putting the cheese & oil on them, made it not enjoyable. Then the beans & rice were cold. I know I didn’t wait to eat them cause that was my second bite of food. I am seriously disappointed with this location. I even told my wife that it was so bad I’m considering never eating at another cafe rio ever again. Very disappointed with the service and the quality of food, it should not be served like that to customers.
Ordered (Uber Eats) two burritos, one grilled chicken, one carne asada. Both dry. They get it to me quickly but they put the burritos in the container with a watery pico, lettuce, cilantro mix and the burritos are drenched and cannot be eaten with my hands. As for taste? very bland, especially the carne asada. To sum up... nothing to write home about. With all the Mexican restaurants around us, there's really no need to try this place. Just a waste of time.
Unfortunate experience here. I'm from Utah where this place originates and it's muuuch better there. My boyfriend and I ordered online and picked up on the evening of March 15th. Our orders were not correct. I ordered one steak enchilada and received two (there are worse problems to have) and my boyfriend got the sweet pork burrito. He didn't want cheese on top and got it anyway. And unfortunately he got food poisoning and was sick all night. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you can confirm the staff knows how to handle food.
Do not eat the Barbacoa!!! Gave me the tummy troubles (if you catch my drift) Burrito fell apart the minute I picked it up. So much grease and liquid from the beans. They really should do a better job for $15 burritos
I've been going here for years because I love the tacos. Recently they have cut way back on their portions. The taco has just a sprinkle of cheese and a little dab af meat. The rice and beans are now half a scoop. I've asked multiple times to add more. I'm done. I'm just done. I'm looking for a new restaurant.
$44.77 For two chicken burritos. And the server, was on his "Bluetooth" ear pods, talking on his Cell-Phone. I got more rice, than chicken meat. At the end, I told the cashier, I want another burrito due the 90% percent of rice. And the cashier only smile and said. I have to charge you extra for another burrito. Please, do not waste your money here. They have no, customer service. Do Not Buy A Burrito that has 90% Rice.
Got two chicken salads $44.14 For delivery. Worse mistake ever. My rice, beans, and avocado was missing. Got old lettuce,, And dry Mexican limes. Go to another restaurant, this one is not worth it.
No clear signage on where to start to order. All of the staff saw us walk towards the register and not one person told us to order where we were supposed to order. Someone else that came in after me, beat me to the spot. I asked the girl at the register who was wearing clear rimmed glasses if that person would be helped ahead of me and she said, “I don’t know” and walked away. I was told the two taco combo with beans rice and a drink was $6 but I was charged $8.99. No clear signage that carne asada is $1.98 more. I was not told that the 2 ounce House Dressing was going to cost extra before I ordered it. I was charged $1.38 for it. To top it all off, I fat fingered the tip option and accidentally approved a 10% tip that they clearly did not deserve. I wanted to pull my hair out. I will definitely not be returning.
