Stopped in this local sushi place and had an amazing experience. The Tomodachi roll was amazing. There was some confusion when we ordered, we accidentally ordered the wrong cut of tuna and the check came with a huge amount to our surprise. The owner took care of it, charging us for what we thought we ordered. I came back with my family a week later and had another great meal. The staff is so friendly. This will now be my go to sushi place in Westlake.
The sushi here is by far the best I have ever had! Everything tastes fresh and well-prepared with great service. My favorite thing to have here is the albacore sushi, because it goes very well with the garlic ponzu sauce it is prepared with. The sushi bar has excellent chefs that always come prepared. It is what keeps me coming back again and again.
Two words: HIDDEN GEM! I am from LA and I am a regular sushi connoisseur. This place is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants I have been to. Unbelievable price for the quality of sushi. Service was excellent as well. Will definitely be back!
The food was excellent! Top notch sushi, excellent cuts of fish, delicious rolls and great apps. Loved the garlic edamame. Service was lovely though a little tiny bit slow. Worth the wait.
Came here 20 years ago when they first opened. 20 years later and the food was just as amazing. Drove all the way here from Orange County and will do it again because their quality is just so good.
Good sushi. Sushi rice quality is a cut above the rest. Sushi cuts are generous and correct without nonsensical chewy parts. Also served at correct temperature instead of too cold.
Tomodachi is our favorite sushi restaurant in the Conejo Valley. My wife and I eat there every month or so. We like the special rolls: -- Tomodachi roll -- Mama-san roll & others. Our penchant for special rolls probably pushes our cost per person up a bit. We figure it is worth it. "Regular" sushi is heavy on fish and light on rice. The sushi-chefs are friendly, and happy to discuss the 'best' choices for that night. This is a very dependable restaurant with a relatively low noise level.
A long standing tradition in WLV. The best sushi in Ventura County! Prices are reasonable and the chefs are pros! Staff is always friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a try if you are in Westlake or Thousand Oaks. Try the Toro!
Great food, friendly service, chill atmosphere. We come in once a week, dad is handicapped and they are super accommodating. We love it.
Food was great. Our waitress was excellent.
Delicious sushi and friendly wait staff. Been coming here for years.
The Spanish mackerel is so fresh. Watching the sushi bar was fun. Atmosphere lively on a Friday night without a drop in service quality
Very fresh delicious sushi. The staff is very efficient, thorough, not pver bearing. One of my favorite sushi restaurants
Outdoor dining being stopped by the Covid is really a drag. We always have great meals at Tomodachi. we feel like it’s one of those places where you get to know the staff and yeah; really feel at home.
I have been a regular here for years! It doesn’t get any better than this in this area. The fish is fresh the service is great the portions are Well worth the price.
Consistently excellent. Sampled various sushi rolls with friends. Located in vons shopping center near cvs. Staff is friendly and attentive. Worth your business.
Excellent sushi, clean and bright restaurant, and the chef even prepared specialty plates for a father daughter that came in unsure of what they wanted but were willing to try anything placed before them - they seemed to enjoy the pairings as well.
Nice sushi restaurant with fresh choices like daily specials. Lunch time Mon through Friday, they have amazing lunch box. Dinner time you can get their signature menu which is amazing and fresh. Easy and enough parking.
We have lunch at Tomadachi every other week. Before we sit down the servers have our tea, water and soda on the table. Plus water for our little dog. Great service and very fresh, delicious sushi.
Sushi was delicious! Presentation of sashimi salad was beautiful! My friend and I received wonderful service at lunch!!
The Rainbow Roll has a spectacular SAUCE. First time I've ever had this roll with a sauce on it, and it was delicious (It's unique about this restaurant that they put a sauce). The salmon skin hand roll is also excellent, crispy, flavorful, a must try. They have sushi bar seating or tables inside, or you can sit outside in the fresh air if you prefer. Sushi chef was helpful, attentive, and friendly. Highly recommend coming here for lunch. This is my new sushi gem find in Westlake Village, and one of the best local sushi places I've tried. (I wish I'd taken a photo of the Rainbow Roll with its sauce- it tasted amazing)
My new favorite local sushi spot! This is another place I’ve driven by a thousand times, but didn’t try for the first time until yesterday. Kicking myself for not trying it sooner, but so glad I did! All of the fish was very fresh, which is the most important part for me. They also let me sit at the sushi bar even though they were about to close it down after the lunch shift, so I really appreciated that. I’m hoping they have blue fin and/or toro the next time I visit. This is hands down the best sushi in Westlake Village…Sorry Sushi Planet, I still love you! 😂🫶
Sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen in the Westlake area. For consistently quality fish Tomodachi Sush is the place to visit. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. The prices are great considering what delicious cuts you receive .
I wanted a quiet lunch away from coworkers and noise. Did not disappoint. Fish was fresh and delicious! I had kampachi, Nokia scallop, octopus nigiri, and to fill up space before ordering everything the menu... tomodachi roll. Service on point. Went back to work calm, happy, and full.

The lunch special is fantastic! Expediently but expertly presented and an incredible value! The quality is top notch and the service is impeccable. Always had a great experience at Tomodachi and the rest of their menu is extremely impressive! Wonderful selection. Their attention to detail is unmatched. Enjoy!
First time here! Everything was so tasty, fresh and beautifully served. The place is spotless!
Tomodachi is outstanding. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the quality is on another level. The sushi chef makes incredible suggestions and every recommendation has been spot on. You can tell how much pride they take in their work with every plate that comes out. If you can, sit at the sushi bar—it makes the experience even better watching the chef create everything right in front of you. This has quickly become one of my favorite sushi spots, and I can’t wait to come back.
Delicious sushi - Toro is so good! Great service with super friendly staff.

I only gave 4 stars because although the food was good, the service was good and the atmosphere was good, I found it odd that they questioned me about wanting to add fried onion and jalapeño slices to the top of my rainbow roll. Most sushi places that I have been to have welcomed the challenge to make it the way I liked whereas this place made me feel as if I had inconvenienced them to alter a staple sushi roll, the rainbow roll, by adding a few toppings. I won't be going back again. I will look for a place with a more pleasant and accommodating staff.
Good place but found it odd that they did not have chefs that were used to special requests. It made me feel strange the way they handled my request by bringing the manager to my table. Maybe I have just been lucky enough to have found other places that have had an imagination and used the requests as a challenge on how they would balance taste with their art. This place just didn't handle it the same way as my experiences with others. The food was still 5 star!
Amazing food. Take out is always fast and easy. The environment is always welcoming and the chefs are so kind. Unfortunately some of the waiter and staff are a bit brash.
Stopped bu y to have lunch around noon. Just a perfect timing to come. Afterward, there will be a lot of people coming in to dine in. All the food was good. The waiting time for cooked food is about 30minutes or so. They cut the fish pretty good too. We enjoy having lunch in this place.
A very pleasant stop for lunch after wrapping up a meeting. We ate outdoors and ordered the chicken sushi set. The sushi and sushi rolls were good but I wished I had ordered something else rather than the teriyaki chicken. Overall a decent spot and if you like coffee there's a Starbucks right next door.
I had made pre advanced plans to dine here with an industry friend who was a former (- J ) dancer .. I had never been to this restaurant and the location is in the back of the property... Honestly this 🛒 shopping center is..huge"". My friend had arrived before me .and the 🅿️ parking was really convenient.. We dined indoors..the patio area was really breezy. The interior has a Japanese feel and it looks more like a movie set. The server's we're really diligent and the food didn't take long to arrive. We were so busy talking " This,, That and the Other""" that it suddenly dawned on me to take a few pictures. The food was delicious 😋💎🤤.. No complaints what so .. Ever! It took a few days to write a review... We dined on ""Sashimi 🍤 Tempura roll,I had Miso 🍲 soup, 🦀 Crab roll ,Yellowtail tempura,Saki 🍵 etc. I was... Stuffed beyond belief. This location was packed by the time we finished our meal. Unfortunately I included only (2) pictures.. Sorry.. My stomach had no complaints and I will certainly return to this location in the future

I like a good sushi spot. Been here many times over the years and its been good. I've got nothing bad to say. The service is great, the food quality passes anf the atmosphere is typical of a sushi place.

Take this review with a grain of salt: we came on July 5th, so the weekend after a national holiday and it was very busy. The service seemed really understaffed, they were running around like headless chickens. Spent over 2 hours at this place and most of that time was just waiting around. The nigiri and the rolls were pretty good though, I feel bad for how stressed out the waiters looked.
We love the food, but we could not stand for the waiter and waitress there. Soy sauce jar tilted over, and we used up all of our napkins trying to soak it up until we could got a waiter's attention to help us. His table cloth got all dirty quickly even our table was still wet. He turned around to the kitchen and never came back again. We were so sure he is coming back... We ended up cleaning the table ourselves. One certain waitress just wanted to get rid of us, she kept on asking us if we were ready for check while we were trying to order more rolls. The food was really really good even the name of dishes are same as other restaurants, the food itself is 200% better than other places. We ended up with three orders of the vegetable roll, seaweed salad and softshell crab. We will definitely come back when we forgot about the bad service.
“Tomodachi” means Friend in Japanese, and definitely this is a place you will feel it friendly. A skilled Japanese sushi chef prepares excellent sushi right in front of customers. The menu offers a wide variety of rolls to suit all tastes, from authentic Meguro-style sushi to extravagant American creations like the Rainbow Roll. The prices are reasonable, the service is great, and the atmosphere provides a fair taste of Japan in California (if you order the real Sushi 😀)
I have been coming here since 2018. This evening, was such a disappointment. I did not know this chef. He was 3rd from the front door. He had a messy station. His white towel was very dirty as he kept reusing it. Rice was everywhere on him, the bar and on our menu. Everyone else I've ever sat in front of was at least coherent. He kept trying to remember if he made us our spicy tuna roll. At the 3rd time I said yes can we move it along. Sushi is supposed to be elegant in looks and taste for the expensive prices we pay. Our rolls looked like a child made them. Im a raw fish peraon but I actually only ate cooked food because I was so turned off by his handling of our food. Another issue was that over time the soft shell crab appetizer has been getting smaller in size. This evening, the crab was just a small shell. No meat to be found for $14. It's unnecessary to serve something if its not of quality. The prices do not represent the quality but the variety only at this point.

The lack of care and concern for food allergies at Tomodachi is truly astonishing. It’s as if they believe allergies are just a made-up concept to inconvenience them. The limited menu made me feel like I was in a culinary prison, with my only options being the sad, lonely salmon. It was like being on a deserted island with only one food source, except instead of coconuts, it was a naked fish. The lack of education on allergies was also apparent. It’s almost like they think a gluten allergy is just a trendy diet fad and not a serious medical condition. Maybe they should take a break from serving lackluster dishes and pick up a book on food allergies. In conclusion, if you enjoy playing Russian roulette with your allergies and like your salads dry as the Sahara desert, then Tomodachi is the place for you. But if you value your health and taste buds, I suggest looking elsewhere for your dining needs.
very rude woman on the phone for phone orders & at the pick up counter this has happened every time I try to order a pick up order & I've tipped every time. The food is good and the sushi chefs nice, but I won't be going back good service & being courteous is soo important!
It was alright until the massive food poisoning. We visited Tomodachi every weekend for about 6 weeks. On our last visit the fish seemed just slightly off. The sickness that followed and lasted a couple of days was enough to turn us off for good. When I called to let them know that we had gotten sick and to ask if anyone else had reported an issue our line mysteriously disconnected.
Our experience at this restaurant was beyond disappointing. The server was incredibly rude and inattentive—we had to call her over multiple times just to place an order or request anything. She acted like we were inconveniencing her every time we asked for something. To make matters worse, when we received the bill, we noticed that a 20% tip had been automatically added without any prior notice or mention on the menu. This felt like a complete rip-off, especially given the poor service. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
if I could give this place a one star I would please do not go here the food is terrible.
horrible customer service and horrible attitudes. the food is absolutely horrible. please stay away from this place if you like real authentic sushi.
I use to love this place. After Covid the service has declined. One of the Sushi chefs should consider another career. Don’t bother going to this place on Sunday. Expect poor service due to limited staff.
