Food was really good, fresh. Service was amazing. Arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday, Memorial weekend. Seated promptly. Our waitress Verandi was on top of everything! But not annoying. Menus posted online showed more offering, looks like they have min mzed the menu. Appetizer of green queso was primo!!
Our favorite bartender Megan is an outstanding bartender- server with an awesome personality! It was super busy today and she was killing it! Highly recommended this establishment! We frequent this place very often and love the people and the service here!
My husband & I went to brunch yesterday , we had the steak & eggs & a bloody & Bellini. The food & drinks were amazing! Our server was Christian He was fabulous! He handled 3 small tables & a table of 20 with ease! Highly recommend!!!
We went here for the first time the other night and it was wonderful. We came in at a very busy time so they said there’d be a 20 minute wait (which we were fine with), they sat us in 5 minutes. The atmosphere was great. Good lighting, cute decorations. The server was very prompt and a good amount of attentive. Our food came out very quickly and the server kept our glasses full. We ordered the carne asada and it was amazing! We will definitely be back.
One of the best Tex-Mex restaurants I've ever been to. Had one of their burgers and it was pretty good. Atmosphere is punching above its price point and the table service was great. Definitely recommend if you haven't tried it yet. I would say quite a few locals visit this place pretty often as some of the customers seem to be well known to each other and to the staff. Price is below what you would expect from the pictures. The two of us came out at around $40 with two entrees.
At 8:00PM on a random October 2025 Saturday evening we found ourselves in Tyler Tx headed back to Houston. The 1836 Kitchen is a casual, slightly upscale restaurant with good food, good value and very good service. There is originality in the traditional TX dishes like CF Steak, Shrimp Tacos or Nachos. In fact the Shredded Pork Nachos were all one needs to eat, offered exceptional flavor at a very fair price. In fact, the next day, a slight craving to repeat the meal lingered, always a good sign. The Shrimp Tacos included three plumply stuffed Tacos with juicy and fresh tasting shrimp plus flavorful and original refried beans. There was a slight hint of a Latin American flair that lifted the dishes beyond the standard Tx-Mex look and taste so familiar across the SW. The service was exceptional, professional, friendly and helpful. A bit of additional focus on details with consideration to plating and presentation would be a great plus, yet the quality, quantity, and flavor was well above average. The restaurant was moderately busy with customers including three large parties and a private group in the upstairs private dining room. For what appeared to be a sound-lively room, the noise level and atmosphere including cloth napkins, on lacquered wood tables, was fine. A long vibrant bar makes-up one side while offset by a half-wall and an open staircase to balcony seating giving the room the effect of an old west saloon complimented by interesting modern lighting. All good and well worth a visit!
My husband and I enjoyed brunch there today which was phenomenal. Their coffee was amazing! We sat on the patio and there seemed to be some kind of construction happening behind us which wasn't pleasant. Overall, it was a great experience and will go back when we come back to town.
1836 is one of the best dining experiences in Tyler! The food is creative, fresh, and absolutely delicious—from starters to dessert. The cocktails are top-notch, and the atmosphere is both classy and comfortable. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and makes you feel right at home. Whether you're out for a date night, celebrating a special occasion, or just treating yourself, this place delivers every time. Their attention to detail and quality really sets them apart. We’ve never had a bad meal here and always leave impressed. Highly recommend 1836 for an elevated East Texas dining experience! Lastly I absolutely love the queso!!!
Wow! This restaurant is amazing and so delicious! The atmosphere is very clean and sort of industrial, and the food is really outstanding and some dishes have a unique twist. I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes appetizer. It comes with homemade pimento cheese on top and house made ranch dressing. Also, their skirt steak on top of French fries with quest, beans, etc is absolutely incredible. Will be back here again for sure!
Everything was good! The only thing is they had a large party which put a extra load on the team I would recommend taking reservations so you can schedule more effectively. A little birthday celebration would be nice. We have just moved here and so far this is one of the few restaurants we will support in the future! Thank you.
The food was good. The country fried chicken was good. The greens were really good. The crawfish queso was very good. It took them a couple times to get one of our burgers correct. The horse at the entrance is really in the way when you have to wait for a table and not enough seating in waiting area. I would move the horse and replace the coffee tables with more seating.
A co-worker recommended this place and I'm glad we finally had the chance to try it. My waiter was very nice and took very good care of us. We chose to sit in the extended area that was partially outside with heaters and it was nice. The proportions are plenty for sure and I definitely plan on visiting again to try the shrimp and grits.
BEST old fashioned in Tyler, otherwise overpriced and less than exceptional. Nice staff, they don't hover but must be summoned. Nice spot for a "Pre-flight" cocktail and appetizer (queso is pretty good) then move on
We loveeee the food here but the service from the hostesses is consistently bad. We left about 15 minutes ago, the two young girls working the host stand rolled their eyes at us when we told them we needed a table for 8. It’s my graduation dinner and they had no need to be so rude. They did this to many people and laughed at an old man after he sighed when they told him the wait time. We just left and are going somewhere else. Also, we called to make a reservation 6 hours ago and they said we couldn’t- but we overheard them tell an old man the patio is for reservation only? What? We tried that?
The chicken entree was delicious however the main problem I have with 1836 is it they do not offer tartar sauce or cocktail sauce when ordering Seafood items. Secondly they do not offer thousand island dressing which all restaurants basically do. I hope the management sees this post add Stark's offering tartar sauce and cocktail with their Seafood.
Foods ok but overpriced. Also, if you dont allow people to bring in their own water bottles you might want to ensure that your water is impeccable first! Yours is not even close as it tastes like dirty dish water.
Because we are unfamiliar with Tyler, the description of the restaurant was intriguing, plus my husband had been craving Chicken Fried Steak. We were seated promptly, and greeted by the server with salsa and chips. The salsa was fine, but the chips were stale and cold, cold, cold. We both ordered CF steak. When it arrived it was piping hot. The collard greens were the best part of the meal. The mashed potatoes had no body, plus they tasted of overly baked cheese. The CF steak had a nice crust, but the steak by itself had an odd herbal taste. The gravy was nothing but a disappointment. I was expecting a traditional white milk based gravy. We got a thin, pale gravy tasting strongly of chicken buillion. Needless to say I only ate half of my meal. The service started off great, but once the food arrived we saw the server only 2 times: once to asking the food tasted good (before we we barely had a chance to taste the food) and then again to present the bill. No drink refills were offered. While I may give them another chance in the future, it definitely will not include chicken fried steak.
Absolutely the worst service out of any restaurant I have ever been to I have never had a server that dint even try before I will say the chicken wraps are amazing and they make the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever tasted the beer was cold the margaritas were good the chicken fried steak was soggy and not the best the fries on my burger were great but the lone star burger looked delicious but when I picked it up the bottom bun was so soggy it fell apart the waiter came back by 20 mins later and said you should have said something sooner we could have replaced it no thanks it took over a hour after ordering to get the first one and they were not busy so didn’t even eat just went to Braum’s after leaving we couldn’t even get refills the waiter was interested in another table and completely forgot about our table took two hours to get a appetizer a burger and a chicken fried steak on that experience alone will never be back here again
Called at 5pm for a reservation for 7pm for 8 people since I have family coming in from out of state. Arrived 15 minutes early just to be told I didn't call and wasn't on the list. Asked if they could fit us and was told no even though the place was over half empty. Highly recommended to my family amd was sorely disappointed and will never be back. Horrible hostess that can't even right down a name. *Added after owner response****You do take reservations as stated by your hostess as they had 2 more reservations not under that name though for 8 and 9 pm. The hostess showed me the list of reservations they had written down. You could have just said you forgot to take my name and write it down but you have chosen to call me a liar and falsley claim yall dont take reservations when you clearly do. 1.)Your hostess said they do for guests over 8 and showed me the other reservations 2.)A quick google search says you do for groups of 8 or more. 3.)Your own Facebook page has a link to reservations. 4.) A car full of people listened to me as I made and confirmed the reservation. 5.) Yall have since flip flopped to you do take reservations just not same day...so which is it? Too much inconsistencies with this place . This goes to show that yall just can't accept yall made a mistake and own up to it.....thats fine I'll make sure everyone I know doesn't patronage your establishment(s) anymore.
The Service and atmosphere were very nice. I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak. I wasn’t impressed. It had a strange flavor that I couldn’t identify. Almost a chemical taste. I couldn’t finish it. I would not condemn the entire place, only having tried one item. I might suggest serving Texas Toast with the CFS.
