Always fantastic!!! Beautiful atmosphere and great food at friendly prices! We had saffron lasagna with spinach and Taleggio cheese, blueberry pizzoccheri, generous venison bites, and the fantastic polenta taragna! For five of us, we spent €70! All with a view of Pegherolo and Monte Cavallo, with the kids having fun in the snow! Definitely worth returning!
I struggle to call it a refuge since you can get there by car. The building is new and truly beautiful, and the staff is very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, we arrived late; the kitchen was already closed, so they kindly made us a platter on the spot. The cured meats and cheeses were truly excellent. We paid a fair price.
A well-maintained lodge with a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. We had lunch outside; the traditional dishes were delicious and the service was prompt. The refuge is an excellent starting point from the San Simone parking lot, but it's also accessible from the various trails crisscrossing the surrounding mountains. This is my second visit, and as always, I'm satisfied.
I only had a coffee, but I have to say the place is really nice! A modern wooden building with a huge, sunny terrace. The view is beautiful and open. The facilities have been closed for a while now, but the manager (very kind) said that many people come here for snowshoeing, hiking, and ski mountaineering. It's worth a visit.
Excellent refuge after a mountain hike. After a hike, this refuge was the perfect stop. The food is good, ideal for recharging your batteries after a trek. There's plenty of outdoor space for relaxing, with tables, benches, and even loungers to enjoy the view. The interior is also very spacious.
Easily accessible by car, it has ample parking (not reserved) and offers a variety of traditional dishes (taglieri, casoncelli, pizzoccheri, polenta, etc.) to be enjoyed al fresco with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. It's also an ideal starting point for hikes of varying lengths and difficulty levels. Good food, reasonable prices, and friendly service.
The Bar Ristoro is located at the top of the road leading to San Simone pistes, next to a large and convenient parking lot. Access is easy, with two steps to the outdoor area and no steps to enter the restaurant. The restaurant is divided into two parts: a charming, traditional wooden bar and a mountain-themed restaurant behind it. The dishes are traditional Bergamo dishes: casoncelli, polenta taragna, braised meat, various sandwiches, etc., all delicious in my opinion. The staff is helpful and friendly. During the holidays, it gets crowded, so you may have to wait a bit, but not too long. The location is strategic because you can use the bobsled here or take a pleasant half-hour walk to a mountain hut. Suitable for both summer and winter.
Good
We had a great experience with the owner regarding breakfast, but unfortunately lunch was a complete disaster: despite having a 1:30 PM reservation, we had to wait for about 40 minutes standing before being seated, even being outnumbered by those without reservations. The service was chaotic and disorganized, punctuated by some rude reactions and inappropriate comments from the staff. The only positive note was the food; both breakfast and lunch were excellent.
Unfortunately, the experience was marred by chaotic entry management. Despite having reserved for nine people, upon our arrival we were asked to wait over 30 minutes, with the staff acting hasty and annoyed. We were displeased to note that priority was being given to tables that became available at random, even seating those who hadn't reserved, thus rendering our reservation meaningless. Only after insisting again were we assigned a table that was about to be given to someone else. As for the food, the food was good but nothing exceptional. Table service was slow and halting, a symptom of a restaurant trying to fill more tables than it can effectively handle.
We got along very well with the owner regarding breakfast, but unfortunately lunch was a total disaster. Despite having a table reservation, we had to wait 40 minutes standing before being seated. From there, the service was very chaotic and disorganized. The portion of the first course was a bit small, not to mention some rude reactions and inappropriate comments from the staff.
Lunch during a day in the snow with friends and family We'd never been to San Simone before, but searching the web reveals articles about how they're trying to revitalize tourism in this area. All in all, the food isn't bad, but the welcome and empathy are lacking. From the waiter who welcomes us by complaining about having too many customers, "It's not good like this, it's not nice," to the waitress who repeatedly responds acidly to simple requests. Finally, we ask for eight desserts, four arrive, telling us that the others were out of stock even though we'd ordered them half an hour earlier and they were available when we ordered them. The coffees, however, are served on a nice tray on the table, and the waitress leaves without a word. We handed them out without a problem, but that's definitely not the way to do things.
I'm echoing other reviews; honestly, the music is too loud, annoying, and intrusive. A €2 cappuccino is worth it, considering it's a refuge easily accessible by car for supplies. I hope I'm wrong, but I arrived particularly early, around 8:30, and saw the chips that will be served during the day being pre-fried. Another negative note: The use of snowmobiles in the Orobic Park??? This has been reported to the relevant association, which confirms that the vehicles can be used in very limited ways, with written permission, and not for recreational purposes.
Despite having reserved a specific time, we were seated at our table after more than half an hour of waiting. The table wasn't even ready, and I had to call the waiters myself to have them clear it. After ordering, we waited over half an hour before a waiter returned to the table to inform us that some of our dishes were out of stock. The staff was rude, inattentive, and lacked any professionalism or respect for their customers. The portion size of my dish was ridiculous, worthy of a children's menu, while another dish was so salty it was inedible. An extremely negative experience. The organization, service, and cuisine absolutely need to be reconsidered.
I don't know if they just reopened or if it's just the way the management is, but I strongly advise against this place. We were kicked out with reheated food and stuffed it down our throats, along with a pregnant woman and an elderly person, mostly being told that certain things like wine couldn't be brought to us because there were too many people to serve... never again. Nice place for bobsledding with kids, but the prices were crazy and the quality and service terrible!
I went with my family today to spend a peaceful day in the snow and have lunch at the Scoiattolo restaurant... Yesterday we called to reserve a table for 8 and were told that reservations weren't possible, but that wasn't a problem because everyone asks to eat outside and there's always room inside, so we did. Today, however, I discovered that reservations are recommended because otherwise there's no room, and that the room had been reserved for other customers for days. Dear Davide, I have to tell you that your behavior is neither serious nor correct. If you already have tables reserved, you can simply do as most of your colleagues do... Say you're full and people organize themselves differently.
Crazy experience! We booked a table for lunch days ago. They told us we had 12 to 1:30 (when the second shift was supposed to start). We arrived a few minutes before 12, sat down, and someone went to the bathroom (including me), and that's when the fun began. When we returned, the waiter was in a rush, desperate to get a reservation without waiting for the people in the bathroom, and so he did! To put it simply, he didn't give me time to look at the menu because he was in such a rush to send the request, so I ordered the classic polenta and salami dish! We didn't even have time to sit down before the dishes arrived. I've never seen such a rush, BUT we immediately realized the trick was to get us up as quickly as possible. We were constantly told we had to leave the table at 1:30, then they reduced it to 1:15, then 1:00, finally at 12:35 he said, "Have you seen how beautiful the day is outside?"... I swear he literally said those words to us! We hadn't even finished our drinks and they were already asking for coffee... no, we're not! That's not how we work! It cost 70 euros for three people for a dish each and a drink. It's a restaurant through and through, with restaurant prices, but it doesn't behave like one. Result? We left at 12:40. We'll never go back, and we strongly advise against it!
