Chulita is truly something special. From the moment you walk in, the space feels warm, vibrant, and thoughtfully rooted in Oaxacan inspiration. The ambiance alone sets the tone: beautiful, soulful, and inviting. The food was exceptional. Every dish carried depth, balance, and intention. Honoring tradition while feeling fresh and expressive. You can taste the care in every bite. Beyond the incredible flavors, what stood out the most was the feeling of community and authenticity. Chulita isn't just a place to eat, it's an experience that celebrates culture, artistry, and connection. I will absolutely be back!!
Excellent food, fresh ingredients and pleasant vibes. Recommend
We visited Chulita for lunch after finding it on the Michelin Guide and were not disappointed. The food and drinks here were fresh, light and beautifully presented. The chicken tinga tacos and the guacamole were particularly delicious. The only thing I would say is the service was a little slow, but, if you’re not in a rush, it’s a great choice.
Say less!! Had a great experience here recently. Got a bunch of different tacos and all were so dang good. Joseph hooked it up with spicy habanero bitters for my marg. There are so many excellent Mexican options in LA at hole in the walls or food trucks in random locations — the reliable, everything-on-the-menu-is-good, upscale Mexican spots like Chulita that are a vibe to hang out at are a much, much rarer breed. Def my new Rose Ave go to.
Picked up my mom from LA airport and she was craving Mexican food. I found Chulita in Venice and were so happy we found this place. The service was very attentive, the ambiance was beautiful inside, very boho Mexican style. Everyone around us was ordering the guacamole so we knew that was a staple at this restaurant. I definitely suggest also getting the salsa it was delicious. We also got the ceviche, which was great flavor, and chicken and fish tacos! We tried both the cassava and corn tortillas, you can taste the freshness. I love my entree. The arrachera really hit the spot. The hanger steak and carrot mole was perfect! And of course we finished with the churros dessert. We left there feeling very satisfied! Definitely recommend.
Had lunch, great cocktails especially for tequilla lovers. The environment is open air & casual. Food was delicous, lots of vegan and gluten free options yet still great for meat lovers! Service was great. Highly recommend.
Honestly wasn’t sure about the authenticity of this place but I can definitely say it did not disappoint, from the food to the drinks and the atmosphere as well as service. Reservation is recommended, our server Asa recommended the seasonal margarita (mango) and to make it spicy and pair that up with the hanger steak taco and barbaco it was delightful. Will be coming back for the pumpkin spice churros
The steak and barbacoa tacos were fire, and the Bad Hombre cocktail was insanely good! Daria was the one who suggested it, and she nailed it. You can tell she actually enjoys what she does, which makes a huge difference. Food was great, but Daria’s service is what’ll have us coming back. If you go, definitely ask for her, she’s the best!
A mini escape to Tulum is best to describe the decor of this little cute restaurant in Venice. I been here many times. I took my mother here for brunch, they had wide variety of selection on the menu that caters to meat lovers and vegans. Food was great! My mom is a vegetarian and the food satisfied her Mexican cravings. John was our waiter and he took great care of us and I made sure to left him 25% tip for his hard work.
We had an amazing time at Chulita and were lucky to have the best Mexican server ever. I can’t remember his name, but he was incredibly kind and attentive, checking in on us even though he had multiple tables. We were celebrating our anniversary and it was our last night in LA on vacation, so he surprised us with churros on the house. The food was absolutely amazing and I loved that there were so many good vegan options.
We had great service and great seats. The restaurant is semi open air for the inside spots with outside seating that has shade as well. Chulitas makes their own GF Cassava Flour tortillas that were soft, pliable and have the same chew and char as a fresh flour tortilla. They have organic blue corn tortillas as well as tostadas that are baked for “chips” with their house salsa. They made me a virgin spicy margarita that was the right amount of tangy heat. I ordered a Barbacoa taco on the cassava flour tortilla and a Fish taco on a cassava tortilla. They were nice sized and had tons of protein in each one. The barbacoa was unctuous and spicy with a nice crunch from the fresh veg and radish. The fish was firm, flaky, and perfectly cooled with a citrus slaw. I ordered a side of Spanish rice. It was creamy it all the right ways and subtly spiced. The table ordered the two dessert options to share, GF Pumpkin Spiced Churros with a vegan caramel and a vegan chocolate mousse with almond crumble. Both had good texture. The mousse also had a raspberry coulis that was tart and balanced rhe creamy chocolate. The Churros were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The caramel was a little watery so we dipped out churros in the chocolate mousse. Overall, EXCELLENT food and service
Flavor, Flair & Fantastic Service Chulita is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is vibrant and welcoming, matched perfectly by the attentive and friendly staff. The service is consistently top-notch – warm, prompt, and genuinely thoughtful, making every visit a pleasure. The food? Absolutely delicious. What really stands out is their commitment to inclusive dining, with a variety of gluten-free and vegan options that don't compromise on flavor or creativity. Whether you’re a dedicated plant-based eater or just looking to explore, you’ll find something fresh and satisfying here. And let’s talk about cocktails – the Spicy Pepino nyaaaam is a must-try! It’s crisp, cool, and packs just the right amount of heat. Perfectly balanced and dangerously refreshing, it’s easily a new favorite. Chulita nails it with style, substance, and a menu that keeps you coming back. Highly recommend for a night out, a casual lunch, or just a killer cocktail with friends.
A lot of people think Venice Beach is grimy, but I like it. There are all these cute little restaurants that are a total vibe. This place feels like it’s all outdoors, which I love. It’s cozy and dimly lit. The staff are super cool, our server kept calling us “family” which I kinda loved. The drinks are super fun. The menu is scattered with little vegan options but doesn’t scream at you that it’s anything special. The vegan cheese dip was really good. Loved the spice in there, it felt like too. Not heavy like real cheese. The guac and ceviche were excellent as well. We had a reservation, which I recommend because this place filled up super quick on a week night. I would definitely come back here and recommend to a friend. If I lived in the neighborhood I’d probably just stop by the bar for a drink. Street parking isn’t super easy to find but there is some free parking. This spot probably isn’t great for kids. Better for adult friends or even a casual date.
We celebrated Mother’s Day at Chulita on Rose Avenue in Venice, and it was such a great choice—especially for vegetarians. This place radiates relaxed Tulum-meets-California vibes, with natural textures like jute, airy decor, and that signature Venice energy. The staff were warm, friendly, and incredibly patient. We had a few custom requests (like no tomatoes or onions for my daughter), and everything came out perfectly. The guacamole was super fresh, and the tacos were flavorful without being heavy. I ordered the cauliflower taco with a cassava tortilla, and it was seasoned beautifully—clean, filling, and so satisfying. They also offer blue corn tortillas, which were just as good. My husband tried one of the brunch dishes and loved it, and my daughter enjoyed the vegan nachos. We also shared a spicy mezcal margarita—it was bold, well-balanced, and memorable. Mezcal is clearly their thing, and they do it well. Despite being listed in the Michelin Guide and located in trendy Venice, the pricing felt fair and the portions generous. It’s casual, breezy, bright, and definitely on our list for a return visit. Vegetarian options are plentiful here—this is a true gem for plant-based diners. Just plan a little extra time for parking (this is Venice, after all)—we got lucky with a spot right across the street.
During two weeks in LA, Chulita had the best food we ate and we went three times. Normally, we don’t like to repeat experiences, but each time we ate something different and, seriously, every dish was subtle and bold. Yes, at the sane time! A "simple" dish like Mexican rice, that is frequently screwed up, was cook to the correct tenderness and tomato spiciness, neither dry nor crumbly nor too salty. My partner is Chinese and a serious foodie so l think you can trust us. The ceviche was full of fish chunks in what I would call green salsa and some quac, radish and herbs - rich and tangy, with amazing mouth feel, it caresses the tongue. A new personal favorite is the Esquites, what we would call a corn salad. We have never had corn like it before. Our server, a bearded gentleman (damn, I forget his name, but high five to him for going to volunteer firefight the Palisades fire!) guided us through the menu (we are Canadian and don't get good Mexican) and recommended this. The corn has some kind of chewiness and dense sweetness that he said came from roasting it. Mind-blowingly delicious. We had to get to the airport in about an hour and the staff had our food and drink on the table in minutes but the lovely lady who served us (a transplanted Canadian) still had time to chat with some co-patriots. All in all, three amazing meals that have us dreaming of returning to LA.
Amazing service from Kim! Restaurant is very cute. Their cashew soup was delicious and Kim gave a great recommendations with the chilaquiles. There was a confusion with one of our dishes and Kim took care of us. Just an FYI, the chulita bowl is more of a salad, and the avocado salsa is mixed inside. The menu description made us a bit confused... but overall, I would come back and try out other stuff. The barbacoa was very juicy and flavorful.
Chulita offers a nice vibe and great interior, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners. The service is perfect, with staff being attentive and friendly. However, when it comes to the food, it doesn’t stand out for unique flavors. The steak in the tacos was tough, and the fish taco was a little too spicy for my taste. I also found it unclear why they use two tortillas for each taco, which felt unnecessary. The churros were a letdown, resembling French fries and lacking the expected crunchy texture. On a positive note, the barbacoa meat was good. My visit was prompted by a recommendation from the 101 best restaurants list, but for food enthusiasts, there are definitely better options in town.
We were pleasantly surprised to get table for 5 on a Sunday afternoon walk-in to this place. We were starving and felt like trying some Mexican food. Our server Jenn was friendly and attentive, and we got straight to ordering as soon as we were seated. They were serving both, brunch and Lunch menu, and their lunch menu looked a much better than the brunch menu. We started off with a few $18 cocktails, which included a winner - El Pepino - very very refreshing and also not that spirit forward. Foodwise, we got the Coliflor Fundido ($16) - served with some excellent Tostadas. These were very tasty, but nothing can beat their absolutely excellent tacos, which included Vegan Mushroom Carnitas ($7 each), and Tinga de Pollo. The Mushroom tacos were spectacular which set the bar very high for our mains, which sadly, did not live up to the level! The Chulita Bowl ($19) while presented in a very nice way, lacked taste, which even the Vegan Chorizo couldn't fix. Our table had a similar experience with the Chicken Tinga bowl. Service however was very good, food arrived within 20-mins of ordering, and noise levels were on the lower end. A very positive experience overall.
Great service, good vibes, good location, but the food and marg lacked flavor and was just okay. Street Parking is also a challenge here so be sure to come early.
Great cocktails and guacamole, but the rest of the experience fell short. The pumpkin spice churros lacked the seasonal flavor and felt no different from regular ones. Additionally, the service felt pushy; our waiter kept asking us to order more even after we explicitly said we were done. It’s a nice spot for a drink, but the constant pressure to order more made it hard to actually relax and enjoy the vibe.
