My wife and I came here the other day for our date. The sushi joint is located on the corner of Main Street in California Street. We walked inside and we were going to sit inside, but we actually decided to sit outside and it was perfect. I think my wife ordered a chicken teriyaki roll and a veggie tempura roll. She was super stoked that this location had these. I got something with salmon in it and I also got one of those lobster rolls. That thing was amazing. It was a great time at this restaurant, and I highly recommend it.
Outside seating was very enjoyable and had no wait at all. Amazing sushi choices and everything was perfect. Staff was really kind as well. Their happy hour has really good choices as well as great drinks.
Sushi was amazing. The workers were very kind, we had to dine outside on their patio (which was decorated nicely) because we brought our dog, but it was really windy. They checked in on us to make sure we were still doing fine and even gave us a complimentary dessert.
Maria was our adorable server. She was great and answered all our questions. My date is vegan. He asked a bunch of questions. Our food was out quickly, looked beautiful and tasted fantastic.
Super nice staff!! great sushi! ordered a roll it was too spicy for me staff was super sweet and took it back and helped me figure out what made it spicy and brought back the most perfect dish!! Ellie was amazing!!
Such good sushi! We got a few rolls take out May 2020 and they were very speedy to prepare the order and have it ready for us. We especially enjoyed their one roll with the sea weed salad on top of it (I forgot the name :/). They also hold customer service as their top priority. I definitely recommend this restaurant!
Great fresh sushi, delicious hot miso soup, great garden salad served with combo meals. I never get special rolls, however I notice them served beautifully presented, and look like they hit the spot with customers. I love their spicy chicken stir fry too. Nice location, with window seats, little cold, I have to remember to dress warm. Friendly service, they remember my "Usual" order, we come so frequently.
I came from my night shift and out of the blue i decided to visit the nearest Mission Catholic Church. When hunger strikes, i must by all means look for a place to fill in my tummy. My first time actually in San Buenaventura City and I have been given the best place in town to satisfy my craving for Japanese cuisine, particularly sashimi! All smile (you could tell albeit they're wearing face masks) friendly and accommodating service crew, especially the Japanese lady who wholeheartedly assisted me. Domo arigato gozaimas! Keep safe everyone. God Bless!!! 🙏😇💖
AMAZING!!! Such good food and amazing customer service. Everyone was so nice and food was very reasonably priced, especially during the weekday happy hour (12-5). Cannot recommend it enough!!!
Good sized portions of fresh fish in the rolls. Very tasty. We had the crispy tofu appetizer. Also very tasty. The waitress was polite and attentive.
Our spicy tuna roll was delicious! My sashimi was amazing. Service was excellent. Saki was tasty! Thank You! Worth every penny!
Sushi was fresh! Big portions for good prices! Miriam was very attentive and nice. ambiance was good. We were not cold or hot and they had light music playing.
The food is amazing and taste so good. Great quality and its very relaxing. The sushi are all perfect. The baked salmon roll was the best. The hotpot was so savory and the noodles were perfect. The portions are perfect. The staff was very welcoming snd helpful with any questions. Absolutely in love. The price is very good as well.
Update: we swung by for a late lunch on Halloween day and were pleasantly surprised to find that they have a happy hour menu. We ordered the plain edamame, a salmon roll with avocado, and a black dragon roll. All fresh, all delicious, and the service is just the best in Ventura. We love this spot! We had a fabulous dining experience here with delicious, fresh food and exceptional service. We sat outside with the evening breeze bringing in the fog, and the seating area was quaint, pretty with flowers and lights, and heaters going to keep us warm. We ordered the edamame, beef gyoza (it was pork-free, and they had veggie available as well), and green mussels as appetizers. All were fresh and tasty, and our favorite was the meaty and flavorful mussels. The gyoza had a delightful dipping sauce served alongside it. As for sushi, we ordered the spicy tuna roll and ocean roll, and they were each perfectly prepared with the right amount of spice. The service was above and beyond, and we appreciate the friendliness and attentive servers. Topped everything off with a small bowl of miso soup and this meal and visit was at what we feel is the best sushi restaurant in Ventura. We will be back!
Sat outside for a quick lunch, service was good, food was good and I was happy. I got the almond fried tofu which was different, sauce was really good and the H.O.T roll. They were good and reasonably priced.
I don't even like Sushi, but guess what I loved it here. Sure I ordered the teriyaki chicken fried tempura combo plate. My daughter ordered the baked lobster roll, it was delicious. Every thing we ordered was great. Ya gotta order the sake. Fantastic service!
Best happy hour during the week and the most adorable outside experience in all of downtown Ventura. The food is always fresh and consistent and the Avocados are perfect every time!! All of the staff is very bubbly and outgoing which makes it that much more of a must try restaurant. Thank you Ellie for making this our weekly favorite stop!

It was the first time for all 3 of us, and our food was delicious. We'll come back again next time we're in Ventura.
Great roll options as well as good prices. Our server was young and not very engaging but got our modified orders correct. It would have made the evening had the server been a little more knowledgeable of the menu and a bit more welcoming. Will definitely return regardless of the service, as the rolls were fresh and affordable.
We came with a table for 9. Service was spot on and the food was out of this world! So delish! The ramen had such good flavor and spice! Def will be back.
One of my favorite sushi spots in the area - I always come for happy hour where the deals are amazing, and the service has always been incredibly attentive, friendly, and quick. Google says it's cash-only but it's not! I know their management changed recently so hopefully maybe the problematic employees other people have been pointing out have been changed. I've always had a pleasant and lovely experience here in the past few months and it's definitely a go-to spot!
If you love taking a trip down to flavor town then I would recommend Maki. The rainbow roll will knock your socks off. I’ve seen some complaints about the California roll being with crab and not salmon. I’ve had it, and it’s absolutely delicious. Escape tradition, embrace innovation. I’ve also seen people complain about tipping for groups, to which I say, you absolutely should tip. I’ve been to Maki a few times now and have loved it every time. The sushi is fresh, delectable and served quickly. There is lovely outdoor seating with heating to keep you cozy. The staff are friendly and don’t bother you. The beer is German size, cold and refreshing. Your bill is given promptly but you are not rushed away. Every time I pay, I dream about when I can rush back to my beloved Maki.

Second time going here in the last two weeks. Sat once inside and once outside. On a nice day outside is nice. Big picnic tables and good for people watching. But not nice in bas weather. Our sushi was very good both times. Very fresh fish and a very large menu. One in our group doesn't like sushi but they have plenty of options that are cooked. Very good service and food came fast. My only complaint is that we received our appetizers after our main meals. So Don't order them at the same time. Would go back.
Great dinner spot and wonderful service. The 6 dollar roll and the veggie tempura rolls were the crowd favorites. It wasn’t super busy, even on a Friday night.
I appreciate the hard work this restaurant is doing. Even under staffed, they try there best to give great service. thank you Masa Sushi....dinner was excellent!
Enjoyed Happy hour special, sat outside on a warm summer day, prices are very reasonable, the sushi was tasteful and the beer cold, worth a visit if in town.

Had lunch here. It was really good. The only issue i had was that when I first arrived I was waiting for the other party to show up. Which took about 10 minutes for them to arrive. Within that time the waiter served my drink but also asked me 2 times if I was ready to order and I told him I was waiting for the other guest to arrive.

I've been to almost every sushi place in ventura County. This isn't the best but not the worst. Sushi doesn't seem as fresh. The gyoza tasted micowaved. Also, I'm not a fan of the ginger being placed on the table for all to share.
Friendly people; the sushi rolls were some good some ok but none great
went in for happy hour, rolls are okay, but the spicy ramen was super bland and not spicy at all. Wouldn’t recommend getting the soup, but other things were ok.
My SIL and family 2 adults and 2 kids dined here and told us to join them, they were halfway done with their food when we arrived and we sat at the same table. My husband and I placed our order - chicken teriyaki special combo and asked for a separate check. My SIL's husband went to pay and told us that they included 20% tip to the check because there were six of us. When we paid, they said the same thing - this policy made no sense to us. Food took about 10mins to come out, two of the plastic glasses they served have some sort of lipstick on the rim. The portion for our food was pretty large but expected for $24, we were famished and ate the whole thing. They do have the nicest outdoor settings on the entire street

Decided to give this place a try since our go to sushi place Banzai was closed. I thought since it changed names maybe it was new ownership and the food would be better than what it was before. Unfortunately, it was not. The rolls had SO much rice on them like you were eating mainly rice and mediocre fish. The fish didn't taste as fresh as I would like and the soy sauce containers on the table that say low sodium and definitely NOT low sodium so request it from your waiter/waitress if you go. Service was friendly but the food was disappointing.
I ordered the beef udon and a spicy yellowtail roll. The roll was a little tough. The udon texture was good and the meat's flavor was good, brother was a little too salty.

Food was okay, not spectacular, pricey for the amount and quality. The service was horrible. Supposedly they close at 9pm on weekdays. We arrived at 7:50pm and were welcomed and seated. Placed an order for an appetizer, and the waitress returned promptly to take our food order, and it quickly went downhill. Mind you, it’s still an hour before their closing time, and the waitress rushed us thru ordering, while explaining that we had to order everything we could possibly want RIGHT NOW, because they were ‘closing the kitchen’, but added, “no rush”…. We ordered some entrees and rolls, and while still eating our salads, the waitress brought the check, set it down and said, “no rush”. Seriously? As we were eating, she kept hovering by the table, and finally told us that (8:15) she had to close out the register, and asked us to pay the tab. At this point, I asked her, “oh- so there is a rush after all?”. For the next 20 min, while we tried to enjoy our pricey dinner with no rush, two restaurant employees sat across the room, glaring at us for frequenting their restaurant during their business hours. I get it- you guys are tired and you want to go home- so maybe don’t seat people an hour before closing? No, they were more than happy to allow us to order and pay for all this food, just not enjoy it. Given the overall vibe of this place, we will return with NO RUSH.
We visited this restaurant with high hopes, but unfortunately, we were disappointed by several aspects of our experience. Firstly, the sashimi, particularly the salmon, had an unusual bitter taste which compelled us to send it back. We informed the staff, hoping to prevent any potential issues for other diners. The noodles were passable, but the teriyaki chicken, although flavorful, had a rubbery texture. Service was prompt, which we appreciated. However, the interaction with the staff was less than pleasant; the waitresses came across as quite dismissive and, surprisingly, one of them suggested a higher tip despite the service not meeting our expectations. This aspect of our visit was particularly off-putting. We believe in constructive feedback and hope our experience helps improve future service and food quality.
Shrimp rolls were quite good, crunchy and fresh. The tuna however, made me double check the menu to make sure I didn't order a vegan alternative. Terrible mealey texture and absolutely no flavor in the sashimi or spicy tuna, couldn't even finish it.
RACIST!!! AUTHORITARIAN!!! My husband and I have been residents in Ventura for 30+ years. We loved Masa Sushi, we were regular customers and we enjoyed bringing our big party of friends for Sushi and Sake. We would brag about this place and were proud to bring our friends here. But on this night of Dec 26,2023, my husband and I were taking a walk in downtown. My husband’s knee gave out in front the Masa front door. He was in pain, so we sat down at a table for two right outside of the Masa window . Immediately, a large, young Asian woman came up to us, asking us to leave if we were not ordering anything. After explaining to her that we are regular customers, and that my husband’s knee went out with pain, I said further that we only needed a couple of minutes. She immediately called on a city security guy who happened to be nearby, to get us off the table. The security man was more compassionate than the woman, seeing that my husband was in pain. He told us to take our time. I went inside the restaurant and ask for a manager and the same heavy-set Asian woman confronted me and said she was the manager. Then she proceeded to say to me, “ where did you get your education .. If you don’t understand that the chairs are for paying customers only, you should go back to Mexico “. Shame! Shame!Shame! On Masa. I am a proud Ventura resident. I love my town for its inclusiveness and diversity. I didn’t believe that racism is still lurking in this beautiful town . If anyone reading this review feels appalled by this overt racism, take a stand and spread the word.
Extremely unprofessional experience. One of the waitresses walked up to our table and told us that the other staff didn’t want to serve us because 'we don’t tip.' I’ve never felt so disrespected or uncomfortable at a restaurant. If your servers have an issue, they should take it up with management—not confront paying customers. This place clearly values gossip and entitlement over actual hospitality. Won’t be coming back, and I suggest you don’t either if you expect basic respect with your meal."
We love Masa Sushi in Camarillo and hoped this place would be the same. They're not the same restaurant, but the menu is similar. We weren't excited about the food or service. The food was just okay; definitely not as good as Camarillo Masa. As for the service: the waitress wasn't able to answer our questions about the menu like "what comes on the salad." That's not a big deal, but it's nice to offer to find the answer out. Our food was erroneously brought to literally every other table on patio before it was brought to ours. We weren't asked if we needed anything else; it was dropped off and the server quickly went back inside. Not a big deal, I went inside and asked for what we needed myself. We left unimpressed but none of the was egregious until the manager stopped us while we were leaving to ask me to please check my tip and total amount to make sure they're correct. I know she didn't actually think I accidentally wrote $0 with a line through it and then accidentally correctly added that to the total and accidentally put the correct sum as the total. If the customer doesn't subsidize their staff's wages, the restaurant has to pay their employees themselves. I get it. But to stop me as we're leaving to ask why I didn't tip? Paying the wait staff to do their job is your responsibility, Masa. They barely did the bare minimum of narrowly meeting their job requirements. She asked if something went wrong ... It was just "okay." Until she did this. This is what prompted a review. I otherwise would have just known for the Future that it's not a great place to eat and left it at that. Remember that tips aren't obligatory; they're for outstanding service.
This is the most racist place I have seen in this city, we arrived with my partner and an Asian lady was very rude and dismissive. A young man arrived for a food order, it was not ready yet, he asked him to wait in the place that was empty and he told him that it was not possible for him to wait in the street because it was Saturday and he was very busy. That is rude is a customer also deserves respect. I think the delivery companies need to pay attention. Really that Asian lady is very rude and bad service do not go to this place there are better, better quality better price.
I ordered one roll to go, was charged for two. I had enough money on my card for one and the rest of my money on a different card. I was only supposed to be charged $19 for the one roll but instead she charged me all the money remaining on my card which was 24.19 and issued me a refund of $6 out of $33 total. it makes zero sense why I was only issued a refund of $6, the second roll surely didn’t cost $6. She took extra money from me because she was irritated she made a mistake in writing my order. Also when we came into the restaurant you could smell strong sewage. It took me a few days to consider writing this but I don’t like being taken advantage of so I decided to now. This was Saturday nov 1st.
