We spent almost 1 week in Sestri Levante, had lunches and dinners, and this was the only restaurant where we went twice. Excellent wine, great fish, perfect service. Nothing to add. we will be back…

Tipical Italian restaurant with good sea food, nice and polite serving. Normal prices but dish size is just a bit smaller than (I) expected. Surprise, they do not serve beer and the wine is only available on the bottle. Take the bottle, drink how much you want and pay that quantity. As a regular tourist with no wine experience, I felt unsure about this, so I only had water. I could not fully enjoy my meal

Great food the oysters were great especially since we were craving them. Very kind and helpful service. Only the octopus wasn't perfect, as it was overcooked but not inedible. Strongly recomend the dumplings, absolutely delicious. The restaurant is placed on a nice street with activity walking by. Pleasant expirience

The food was really good. We enjoyed both of our meals and the quality of the products were excellent. However, the service was terribly poor. Once finished our dinner, we had to ask for the bill for the waiters to clean our tables. We then waited over 25 minutes to receive our bill. As soon as the waiter handled us our bill, we placed our cash on the plate, but it took them 10 more minutes before giving back our change. This means that I’m not going to come back.

The pasta was excellent, but the main dishes were a huge letdown. Avoid ordering the langoustine or octopus—they were both overcooked, chewy, and clearly made from frozen seafood, not fresh. For the price, this is unacceptable.

Really don’t understand the popularity of this restaurant and the great reviews. Firstly the atmosphere within Polpo Mario is akin to a funeral parlour. The menu is extremely limited, I had the Spaghetti Carbonara with smoked tuna unfortunately the dish comprised entirely of spaghetti apart from 2 small pieces of tuna, really poor quality. Of the four dishes only 1 was satisfactory. We have had some fantastic meals in Sestri unfortunately our experience at this restaurant was poor and as a result I would not recommend Polpo Mario

We came here on recommendation which was a sad mistake. Two young lads as waiters - all their facial expressions, body signs and even how one of them talked to us really shouted "we hate the job and hate you guests". Customer focus is something they might have never heard of. I had their beef for €20. It was absolutely tasteless, very poor, a real ripoff for the price. If you pay by card, you have to go the bar counter. The manager on duty asked me how the food was, I told him that the beef was not really good. His response was: "well we are a fish restaurant" !!! Meaning, it is ok to serve inferior food other than fish??? Maybe they should not put on the menu dishes they cannot or do not want to make well. Final surprise was that they tried to charge me for items we did not have, without showing me the bill. As the amount was suspicious, I asked for it just to check, this is how I found out. Net: bad service, inferior food, massive disappointment.

We are frequent travellers to Italy and felt the need to write this review after a very disappointing experience. While the food tasted great and the fish was very fresh, the service was the worst that we have ever received. The booking was made ahead of time and upon arrival, they were not prepared (ended up asking us to wait and reshuffle the tables for us but acted like it was a big inconvenience for them). We actually moved the chairs around ourselves to fit properly when they motioned to a table. When we sat down, we were barely greeted by the server. When asked questions about dishes, he did not provide suggestions or answer our questions (we can speak fluent Italian and so it was not a language barrier). We asked about the special (catch of the day) and he implied we shouldn’t order it because it took 45 min to make. Really wanting to try some fresh fish from the area, we added it afterwards but he then said it would actually be 30 min - and arrive after the other dishes we ordered as he submitted it already. We were fine with this but his demeanour was very rude. Further, we asked about wine and the menu was basically thrown at us. We had to make the decision ourself with no input from him. The catch of the day came out within 15 min (not sure why the 30 or 45 min comment was made). Food all tasted good but we felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. There was no “thank you” when we were paying/leaving - he did not even say one word. The prices are higher than other restaurants on the strip and I specifically would not go back or recommend it after feeling unwanted as a guest.
