Eccellente !! Proprietario affabile e gentile . Eravamo tre amici e io ho preso pesce , tra cui una spadellata mondiale , e tonno alla griglia appena pescato ( mi ha fatto vedere le foto del pescione ) eccellente . Gli amici hanno preso la tartare di chianina ( vera e certificata ) spaziale . ( più condimento?) pici al cacio e pepe ottimi con cremina . Pasticcio patate e funghi ottimo . Il servizio sorprendente ….. tutti , ma dico tutti volevano assolutamente fare del loro meglio , senza essere mai entranti , ma molto accurati . Un bel tavolo al caldo forse aiutati da un ottimo litro di vino rosso , elegante e ampio al gusto . Torneremo appena possibile .
Palazzo storico nel centro di Volterra, cucina tipica e prodotti di ottima qualita'. Si parcheggia fuori dalle mura e il locale e' vicino a una delle porte. I primi sono superlativi; ravioli al sugo d'anatra, fettuccine ai funghi e ragu' e fettuccine al tartufo bianco con crema d'uovo. Bello mangiare tra muri di pietra e tavole di legno, simpaticissimi i camerieri.
Ottimo ristorante toscano! Il proprietario è gentile e simpatico e le cameriere disponibili. La qualità del cibo è ottima, soprattutto gli spiedini di chianina che avevano solo un difetto: 3 spiedini erano pochi. Consiglio vivamente questo ristorante se passate per le vie di Volterra.

Tipica osteria toscana, con un proprietario simpatico e alla mano. Purtroppo siamo arrivati molto tardi, ma non hanno avuto problemi ad accoglierci ugualmente. Servizio molto veloce e curato. Abbiamo mangiato veramente bene, i piatti tipici della tradizione sono curati ma allo stesso tempo fanno sentire a casa. Abbiamo mangiato pappardelle al cinghiale e pici cacio e pepe, e a seguire, il maialino con le pesche che era morbidissimo e il cinghiale dolce forte che è stata un’esperienza! Anche i dolci non scherzano e le panna cotte sono veramente buone! I prezzi sono onesti e congrui all’offerta.
Il racconto è di un pranzo ottimo. Ho avuto la possibilità e la fortuna di assaggiare il ragù di cinghiale in tante regioni (nord e sud), ma quello che ho assaggiato qui rimane ad oggi il migliore. Proprietario vecchia scuola e servizio di solo donne molto buono. Consigliatissimo

Beh, per essere in centro a Volterra, dove uno si aspetta il classico ristorante turistico, veramente niente male. Ottimo menù, sia di carne che di terra. Prezzi discretamente giusti, porzioni, anche. Vino della casa,loto buono. Ottimo punto dove fermarsi se ci si trova in zona. Un po' difficile il parcheggio vicino, ma d'altra parte, siamo a Volterra. Lo consiglio molto.

Siamo stati a pranzo in questo bellissimo e storico ristorante di Volterra ieri, 26/12. Avevo prenotato per 5 persone, e nel giorno stesso, si sono aggiunti altri 2 ospiti, e il proprietario non ha fatto obiezioni, anzi é stato gentilissimo nell'aggiungere 2 posti. Entrerete in un ambiente che vi porterà indietro di qualche anno, a quei bei ristoranti/osterie di una volta, con un clima familiare, che oggi stanno scomparendo purtroppo. É presente un menù di carne (IGP) e di pesce, ed un menù bambino. Su tutto il menù sono segnati allergeni tra cui i piatti senza glutine(praticamente tutti). Io vi consiglio le tagliatelle (anche se sono stati gentilissimi e mi ci hanno fatto i pici) con ragù di chianina con vin santo e funghi, e la tagliata di cinghiale con riduzione di zucca semplicemente eccezionale! Anche il tagliere di salumi con le bruschette é molto vario e ricco. Però il consiglio migliore é provare un po tutto perchè la carne è ottima, ma i nostri due ospiti hanno scelto il pesce con molta soddisfazione, perchè trattato molto bene e cotto bene. Tutto questo, è completato da un servizio veloce, non invadente, cortese, e pronto a spiegare i piatti, quindi un servizio preparato e all'altezza. Complimenti a tutto lo staff, al proprietario ed al ristorante; veramente uno tra i migliori in cui ho mangiato. Non faccio mai confronti perchè le persone lavorano chi più, chi meno ma sempre con impegno; e qui c'è molto impegno e tradizione con quel pizzico di innovazione che non guasta mai! Che dire... ristorante davvero eccellente, materia prima di ottima qualità. Abbiamo cenato sabato sera sotto prenotazione e siamo usciti con il sorriso. Ottimi tempi con il servizio. Dal proprietario, dallo chef e dai ragazzi, c'è tutta la professionalità che si cerca in un ristorante. Ho dimenticato di fare le foto ai dolci e alle pappardelle con il cinghiale, ma andate direttamente così li vedete e provate di persona ☺️
Ristorante al centro di volterra con personale cortese e cibo ottimo. Siamo capitati in questo ristorante la prima sera che eravamo a Volterra…Bene, anche le due sere successive del soggiorno Volterrano ci hanno portato qui. Siamo stati colpiti, oltre che dall’ottimo cibo, dalla grande disponibilità, cortesia e simpatia di Massimo,il titolare, di Simone e Micol, i suoi aiutanti di sala. Il cibo è ottimo. Oltre alla splendida fiorentina, mangiata la prima sera,consiglio la tagliata di cinghiale e la tartare di chianina al tartufo.. Qui ci si sente a casa… Super consigliato. Da ritornarci assolutamente
Scelto mentre passeggiavamo per Volterra a pranzo e ci siamo trovati così bene che abbiamo deciso di tornarci anche a cena! Personale cordiale e proprietario simpaticissimo! Abbiamo provato i tradizionali pici (cacio e pepe e stracotto di chianina) a pranzo, mentre a cena abbiamo assaggiato la tagliata di chianina e cinghiale. Anche i dolci buonissimi. Siamo stati più che soddisfatti su tutto! Cibo personale ambiente! Il tagliere della casa salumi e formaggi ottimo (mai sufficiente :), i primi ravioli all'anatra tagliatele al capriolo i pici al stracotto di cingiale troppo buoni, maialino cotto a bassa temperatura tenerissimo e saporito. Ristorante che consiglio assolutamente!
Eravamo di passaggio e ci siamo fermati in questo posticino tipico a pochi passi dalla piazza di Volterra. Abbiamo preso una tartare , una tagliatella al ragù bianco funghi ed erbe del bosco ed una pappardella al cinghiale . Tutto veramente ottimo ! Il proprietario super accogliente . Abbiamo recentemente pranzato in questo ristorante e siamo rimasti estremamente soddisfatti dell’esperienza. Il menù per bambini è stato un vero successo: i piatti erano così appetitosi che i nostri bambini hanno mangiato tutto senza esitazioni, un vero e proprio traguardo! Anche il menù per adulti non è stato da meno, con piatti di carne di eccellente qualità che hanno deliziato il nostro palato. Il locale è accogliente e l’atmosfera piacevole, ideale per una serata fuori in famiglia. Inoltre, i prezzi sono sorprendentemente convenienti rispetto alla qualità offerta. Cucina tipica toscana, ambiente di stile ristorante antico. Ero a pranzo con la mia amica, abbiamo aspettato circa 20 minuti, però tutto era buono. L’acqua è il pane hanno portato subito. Ho assaggiato: il tartar di gambero rosso e il polpo croccante.
Ambiente informale, casereccio e accogliente. Il personale è molto gentile e ho apprezzato molto l’attenzione nei confronti delle intolleranze ed esigenze alimentari. Ci sono tante proposte senza glutine e vegetariane. I piatti sono molto buoni e la qualità-prezzo è giusta. Lo consiglio!

We found this restaurant by chance while walking through Volterra because it looked so inviting from the outside – and it was such a great choice! The food came out incredibly fast and everything was very, very delicious. The house wine was excellent, and the service was just as great – super friendly and attentive. Definitely a place we’d come back to 😍

Amazing experience with our 1.5 year old daughter! Very extensive range of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Staff was very accomodating towards our daughter with a chair, getting her her food first and constantly smiling and waving at her. Really great vibe too!
Went to the restaurant because of the many positive reviews. It was fully booked, so we made a reservation for the day after. As you can read in other reviews, the owner is a very nice person, who does his very best for you. The other staff is very friendly and professional as well. The food was excellent, so my advice is: book a table, and enjoy your meal!
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at the Vecchia Lira - the truffle pasta was delicious and the “sugo di capriolo” (deer goulash-sauce) was the best pasta I’ve had in a while. Service was warm, friendly and made great recommendations. Try the delicious tiramisu as a dessert! 🍮
Great restaurant for a good price. Walked in for lunch, immediately greeted and shown to a table. Place was absolutely packed and only 1 table was left, so book if you can. Ordered bruschetta as a starter (comes with 5 slices and olive oil), papperdele with wild boar ragu, pick with tomato/garlic sauce, burger (made with local meat) and a wild boar stew. All the meats tasted fantastic, honestly one of the best of my life. If you're a vegetarian the tomato pasta was pretty good but meat is definitely the best. From what we had, it definitely deserves 5 stars. 0 complaints.
If you are a wild boar lover and overall meat fanatic you HAVE to eat here during your time in Volterra. I had literal tears in my eyes whilst enjoying the grilled wild boar with red cabbage and apple salad. Thank you for this moment I will cherish it forever! Grazie!
We ordered three different types of meat, and everything was absolutely delicious – thank you for this wonderful experience. It’s a pity we couldn’t try the whole menu in one go! We saw the kitchen preparing fresh truffle spaghetti, and truly regretted not having enough room to taste more!

We ordered the chianina tartare with low-temperature egg and lemon zest and the taste and the quality of the meat were amazing. We also had the Pici cacio e pepe which were really good and the handmade Tortelli with duck filling which we would totally recommend trying. The decoration might be not their highlight but honestly the food is so good we didn’t care at all.
By far the best meal we had all trip. The place was packed when we arrived but the owner found a table for us. He's a charming man who somehow finds the time to make every client feel welcome.
The best pasta I’ve ever had! We had an amazing dinner at this restaurant in Volterra. I ordered the truffle pasta — hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. We also had pici with local beef ragù and shared some ravioli, all absolutely delicious. Tiramisu was great too. A special mention to the manager in charge of the dining room, incredibly kind, welcoming and attentive, which made the experience even better. The rest of the staff was also lovely and professional :) Important: make a reservation! Most tables are for four and aren’t split, so even if it looks like there’s space, you’ll likely be turned away without a booking
I came here on a Saturday evening (11/9/2024) as a solo diner, and La Vecchia Lira made my dinner such a special experience. With a reservation, I was seated immediately, and the food was prompt, fresh, and tasty. I had the duck pasta (fettuccine di pasta fresca agli spinaci con ragù bianco di anatra), steak with bacon and caramelized onions (tagliata di Chianina I.G.P., pancetta locale Tarese del Valdarno e cipolle caramellate), and the chocolate cake with limoncello cream (torta al cioccolato con panna di limoncello)--all great dishes. The ambiance of the restaurant was elegant and cozy; it was very nice to be surrounded by locals. What truly elevated my dinner from satisfactory to wonderful were the owner and staff at La Vecchia Lira. Not only were they patient with my limited Italian and helpful in making selections for a delicious meal, they made me feel extremely warm and welcomed. La Vecchia Lira is an experience worth having if you visit Volterra! Grazie a tutto lo staff e soprattutto al titolare per un bellissimo ricordo! Penserò a voi quando mi metto la maglietta!
The place owned by local, definitely worth to visit but you have to book in advance to be able to dine in here, table only available inside with very nice decor and ambiance, feel warm like home. The food splendid, mussels soup taste so good big portion worth to try. They have another big mix seafood soup too. Steak with cream of zucca also amazing, it served medium rare the best to enjoy the original taste os the meat. Tartare so fresh and melting in tour mouth. Beef burger cooked welldone and taste so good. Panna cotta 🍮 with salty caramel taste like cream cheese cake different type but taste good. Overall the taste of the food superb and highly Recommended. The service ok with busy lunch the food come in time. Have to try when you visit Volterra with reservations in advance.

Oh my goodness me. If you’re after a meal that is a little more upscale than your standard (very good) pasta or pizza restaurant, you’ve come to the right place. Being predictable types, we all went for the wild boar steak and… wow! So good. Cheesecake desserts were insanely fine, the wine extremely reasonably priced and they even threw in some free espresso at the end of the meal. The staff were also very polite about my dreadful Italian and helpfully provided menus in English. First courses are around €14 with main course €18-20 plus €5 for a side dish. We had 4 mains, 2 puddings and half a litre of wine (plus the free espresso) and it was less than €120 for some of the best food we’ve had in ages. Go visit!
Truly exceptional food even by Tuscan standards. Very nice interpretation of classic dishes such as spaghetti with vongole, asparagus lemon and goat cheese or wild boar ragù with pine nuts and cocoa. A fantastic experience and a good end for our Italian trip.

Abbiamo cenato qui una sera durante le vacanze, non avevamo prenotato ma il proprietario ci ha fatto accomodare in pochi minuti, anche se era pieno, comunque è consigliabile prenotare, abbiamo mangiato i crostini misti e la tagliata di carne, e devo dire che era tutto di qualità.. ottimo anche il vino rosso della casa, un bel ambiente tipico in pieno centro storico, i prezzi non sono eccessivi, lo consiglio.

Situato proprio nei pressi della piazza del Priorato in una simpatica viuzza il locale sembra proprio una vecchia osteria quindi niente lusso ma tavoli con tovagliola di carta e pochi fronzoli, ma la pappa è buona e il personale cortese. Interessantissima la lezione del titolare sull'uso di una parte che tutti buttano dell'aglione. Buoni gli antipasti e per noi oggi una piccola fiorentina o solo "bistecca" come dicono i toscani. Buona la qualità/ prezzo. Da vedere il muro di foto di persone che rosicchiano l'osso della bistecca!

Food is decent enough and the host (possibly the owner) was friendly enough but this place is badly let down by the waiting staff who, at best, could be described as abrubt (not just with us, I noticed this was apparent to all tables). I wouldn't go again based on the service alone
