I recently visited Mission Navy Yard and had an enjoyable experience. The restaurant has a lively, energetic vibe. Great for groups too, as the upstairs is huge. They also have a balcony seating The staff were courteous, friendly, and helpful and attentive. Loved the Tex-Mex: tacos, enchiladas, and shared appetizers were good too. The salad is also delicious and better the. I expected. The layout / space is generous: multiple bar zones, indoor and outdoor areas, and event-capable rooms. Restrooms upstairs are a little hard to see with only red lights. Just take your phone and you can use the light to see. Chip’s and salsa were delicious too!
We held an after-party at Mission and the staff there, Charlie, in particular, were all extremely helpful. They were great about communicating via email and greeted us as we arrived & then escorted us to our reserved space. The food and drinks are great and the relaxed and fun atmosphere was just what we were looking for. Definitely recommend planning your next event with Mission!
Ashley and Mia were wonderful! I'm vegan and not too many places by the ballpark have good food that can meet my dietary restrictions. Mission served it up! Delicious food! Margaritas were absolutely refreshing with a bit of attitude! Don't worry, they tailor the attitude to suit your needs 😉 Wonderful atmosphere and service! Put this place as must go!
I was very impressed with Aroon during my visit. The day was calm, but he kept everything under control with excellent professionalism. You could see his attention to detail and the organized way he managed the shift. His presence made the experience enjoyable and reliable, showing his commitment to both the team and the customers.
I was craving nachos like crazy, and the nachos on the menu seemed good, so I walked over. A game was playing, so it was a little loud inside, but that kind of ambience is pleasant to me. The nachos came out really quickly, and they were great! I felt fulfilled.
I love the tacos here. They’re fresh and really flavorful. They don’t skimp! Queso could be less runny and when it’s game night, they could use more bar help. But, the service was still good. Very attentive bartender ❤️
Subject: A True Gem in Navy Yard! Mission Navy Yard is more than just a restaurant; it's a place where you feel welcomed and leave happy. The delicious food and fun atmosphere are a given, but the heartfelt service from the team is what truly makes it special. You can feel the dedication and passion they have for making sure everyone has a great time. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of the Navy Yard community. I look forward to my next visit!
We watched the game here on Sunday (Commanders vs. Ravens). As a first timer to Mission, the food was very tasty! The manager, Aaron was very accommodating to us! The ambiance made it feel like a VIP vibe. What a great experience!
Huge space to grab margaritas and tacos! We had a great time visiting Mission. We came in for the Carolina Panthers Watch Party for the Sunday game and we had a great time with the other fans and staff. Great service the whole time and I would definitely come back to watch football! Their Mexican Chili dry rub wings were amazing!
Great place to do almost anything... sleeping would be tough but if you're drunk enough. Haha. Great food and service. The atmosphere is top notch. They have a ton of tvs and they play all sports. Of course baseball is great with the stadium right behind.. however football is where it is at. Come out for some drinks good food and friendship. Leave with a full belly and Great memories!!! You will not regret coming here. Make this a stop on your next trip to DC. Only a few min scooter ride from downtown DC!!!
Mission Navy Yard is the best place to host any event! We recently held my wife’s birthday party in the Cactus Room. It was easy to set up before the event and perfect throughout. Definitely order some of their famous chips, guac, and quesadilla. If you want to have the best event, host it at Mission Navy Yard!
Great atmosphere. Two bars, upstairs and downstairs with a patio. Friendly and attentive staff. And a collection of tequila that is nothing short of impressive. And not a bad selection of draft beers. Chips and salsa included with happy hour specials that start at 4pm on Thursdays.
Met up with a friend for dinner after the Nats game and we had a great experience. We ordered a pitcher of Margarita which was really good. I ordered the Eggplant Steak, hubby ordered the vegan tacos, and my friend got the buffalo shrimp tacos. Out of all 3 dishes, The Vegan tacos were out of this world (meaning DELICIOUS!). The Eggplant steak wasn't bad...was a little bland to me. My friend said she enjoyed her buffalo shrimp tacos (I am vegan so I did not try her dish). We will try to go back for dinner soon.
Excellent spot for watching the game. Plenty of tv's. It does get pretty crowded around the bar on gamedays. There is outside seating but there wasn't any table service. Food was good and fresh. Drinks were decent for a busy place.
I organized a private event for our office with the help of Dora (Private event Manager) at Mission Navy Yard. It was hands down the easiest planning for an office event EVER! The space was great, the food was great, the service was great and the communication with Dora was responsive and easy. We had 70 guests in the downstairs Plaza bar. Margret was our bar tender and was awesome and took care of our large group like a pro! We were able to stream a PowerPoint to the 4 TVs at the bar and had use of a powered microphone. If you are looking for a place near the Navy Yard for an office social event - reach out to Dora at Mission! - you will not be disappointed.
Recently held my son’s and his fiancé‘s engagement party there. We rented out the Cactus room for an afternoon party. The atmosphere and the food were excellent. The bartender Brady and the manager that was on duty for the party was very accommodating and the actual party preparation and Communication with Elizabeth was fantastic for any questions that I had.
Hosted a party for 25 here and it was easy and fun! The event coordinator was very responsive and we had no issues. Food and drinks were great and our reserved spot had signage and plenty of room.
We booked Mission for a family style brunch for 20+ people and the experience was wonderful! They had an entire section for our group and had a great bottomless brunch option with such a lovely spread of the best Mexican dishes and some staple breakfast sides. It was the perfect set up for a large group and the birthday sign was a great touch! I would highly consider doing this again for a large group. The food was flavorful and we had such a variety for everyone in our group. The kitchen even made tacos separately for those in our party who were gluten free! Always a happy time at Mission!
Mia and Morgan are hands down two of the best bartenders I’ve ever had the pleasure of being served by. From the moment I walked in, they were both welcoming, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Their energy behind the bar sets the tone for the entire place — it’s clear they love what they do. Not only do they make fantastic drinks, but they also take the time to remember your preferences and make you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first time there. The service was quick, professional, and effortless, and their personalities make the entire experience even better. If you want top-tier service with an unbeatable vibe, ask for Mia and Morgan. They’ll make sure you’re taken care of every time.
My company used Mission for a holiday after party. They make everything extremely easy and fun! They have great packages that are flexible and an incredible space for an event. They provided everything and more than we initially planned for. Highly recommend planning your event with them.
Great space for hosting events and the staff was extremely helpful. The downstairs bar was decorated very well for the holiday season as well. Thankyou Elizabeth for organizing my company mixer and cant wait to be back soon!
Went in to watch football. Great happy hour. Loved the steak and egg tacos. My bartender at the bar downstairs was absolutely amazing. she was Super friendly and will be the reason I come back. Overall great experience.
We hosted my husband's birthday party this past weekend and couldn't be happier with the entire experience! From the moment we started planning, the events team was very responsive and accommodating. The event managers made everything so easy, and the night of the party went off without a hitch. The space was perfect for our group, food and drinks were great, and the service was top-notch. All of our guests were raving about how great everything was. Thank you for helping us create such a fun and memorable evening! We'll definitely be back and will recommend to others looking to host a celebration!
I had the pleasure of having a few drinks and food at this establishment. They have a great selection of food (I recommend the boom boom chicken tacos) and the pineapple jalapeño margarita was excellent. I highly recommend checking this place out if you have an opportunity
My colleagues and I threw a holiday party. Elizabeth in her team responded in a timely manner. Suggested a great menu selection . The space we used was perfect and the staff and food were perfect. I will definitely visit again on my own and with friends. Thanks
My husband and I recently hosted our after party at Mission in Navy Yard and the staff was so accommodating in ensuring that when our guests came over from our venue, that everything would be ready for them. The staff was responsive through email & made sure that our after party helped keep the night going after the event. I would recommend Mission as great wedding after party location to anyone!
I’ve hosted team holiday events at Mission for the past two years. Elizabeth and her team were organized and communicative, and made planning for a large party painless! Food and drink great as always.
Absolutely love this place. It has a great atmosphere with a fun and welcoming staff, enormous beers and not to mention, the perfect location right next to the ball park. Whether you're hanging out with a few friends or partaking in the dance party, it's an amazing time. Love the steak quesadilla.
I had the pleasure of organizing and hosting a group happy hour at Mission Navy Yard yesterday. Working alongside the Event Coordinators was incredibly easy, they were accommodating to all request. Organizing this event was easy because of how quick they got back to us. We were able to come early to Mission with ease and all of our attendee's had an amazing time. We have come here for 3 years now for our group event and will continue coming as long as they will have us. The bartenders working our event were patient and quick with service. Food was great, cannot stop thinking about the Waffle Fries and Wings. Highly suggest hosting a happy hour here, worth every penny spent.
Me and My Son came to Mission to celebrate his birthday🥳🎉🎊🎈❤️ Food was really good. My son ordered the mission fajita. I ordered the double beef, stack, tacos, and guacamole and chips. So delicious! Great atmosphere inside and out we ate outside on the balcony. The server, Bianca was so helpful with selecting different options because I don’t eat spicy food. It was also national tequila day🍸 This is my Son’s favorite restaurant. We’ve been here three times so far and definitely will be back.
We recently hosted a work event at Mission during non-business hours, and it was a seamless experience from start to finish. The setup was handled perfectly — everything was ready the moment we arrived, and the layout was ideal for our team to mingle and socialize comfortably. The customer service was exceptional; despite being an off-hours booking, the attentive staff stayed on top of every detail and made sure our group was well-cared for throughout the entire event. The drinks were fantastic, but the tacos were the absolute crowd favorite! Everyone was raving about them. If you’re looking for a venue that can handle professional logistics while serving great food and drinks, I highly recommend Mission.
Some friends found this place and we ended up there for brunch. The servers were super nice. Loaded waffle fries with carnitas were so crispy and good, and we tried a cross-section of the taco menu which were all fabulous!! Add that pitcher of Dos Equis and it all went down easy. The only gripe was the noise level: if the music is going, you're going to need to project, dear! It was an awesome afternoon!
I recently hosted an event here and it was great. The service was great, the atmosphere was energetic, the music was great, and food was delicious. Perfect for a happy hour event. One of my guests said the prices were good for food and beverage as well. Another person had rave reviews for the espresso martini and the birria tacos. The bartenders were also super accommodating. The hostess was also a darling and asked what name people would know the event by. Overall, 5 stars! Great location, easily accessible from the train, super close to Nats stadium.
I recently hosted a group of about 70 people at Mission Navy Yard, and everything went perfectly! The space was ideal; we were on the second floor, and our group was spread across three different areas, which worked wonderfully for the working session we had. The layout really helped keep the noise level comfortable, even with everyone talking at once. From the very beginning, Elizabeth, the Events Manager, was incredible. She communicated clearly, responded quickly, and was extremely flexible throughout the planning process. The service was excellent — the staff was friendly, attentive, and very efficient. And the food was absolutely delicious! I especially loved the shrimp tacos and the potato empanadas. I would definitely recommend Mission Navy Yard for any large group or corporate event :)
I recently had gone to Mission for a night out and had a great experience. I’m pretty sure our bartender was Teighan. She was awesome very nice. Would totally come back again.
We hosted our 10-year class anniversary at Mission and to say we are overly satisfied would be an understatement! We had an amazing time celebrating, and working with the Mission team was an incredibly seamless and accommodating process. We spent a lot of time looking for venues to host our event at and couldn't have been happier with our decision. Thank you a million times over, Mission team! We loved the drinks, food, and overall vibe. 10/10!
We came in here on a late night. They had a DJ upstairs who was playing everything the servers were good. We had Maddie she was amazing. I don’t remember the other folks names, but they were very attentive of making sure that everyone had everything that they needed or wanted it. We asked the DJ for a few request and he played them. That was cool. The chicken wings were fire 🔥 they didn’t close till three. I think we left about 2 AM. It was a night to remember.
I visited Mission - Navy Yard to go to brunch with a large group of 11. I was unimpressed with the cleanliness of almost all of the glasses and utensils we were given (pictured), and I think they need to change something in their dishwashing process because previous user’s lips markings were still seen on several glasses. Luckily- we are an unpicky group and proceeded on to food without complaint. We got endless mimosas/bloodys/miller lite, and I was once again under impressed at a Bloody Mary I received which appeared like Bloody Mary mix by itself- thick, soupy, and tasted like tart tomatoes- gross. My girlfriend’s was normal and mixed as a BM should be, but she was unimpressed with the flavor in general. I just put my tomato paste to the side and went with mimosas for the rest of the 90min, which were tasty, but you can’t mess up a mimosa. When the food came around, I had a Birria breakfast sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed and is one of the best breakfast creations I can say I’ve ever had. The home fries on the side were great as well and this meal made up for the negatives previously mentioned. Overall I would come back for the food alone but not so much for the whole brunch experience, as I’d rather get a quality Bloody Mary somewhere else.
Attended/helped coordinate an event here a couple of Saturday's ago. The whole team was AMAZING! Worked with Dora and Megan, and everything was seamless. We expected around 100 people, all ages, which is a lot. They made sure the space (semi private) was amazing. The ladies that worked the bar for the event were so great, one in particular was just so fabulous (unfortunately, I can't recall her name, and I will update if I do). Food was great, came out correctly the 1st time, it was hot and delicious. Drinks were also great, never at anytime were the staff not eager to assist, which was also helpful. You can't beat the location as we were attending a Nats game later on around 4 pm. I would suggest stopping by and grabbing drinks and food before a game or just if you are looking for a good vibe and good eats!
Mission: A Lively DC Spot with a Nightlife Vibe Mission Mexican restaurant in Washington DC offers a truly unique experience that's worth checking out, especially if you're looking for a fun and festive atmosphere. As the evening progresses, this place really comes alive, transforming into a vibrant nightclub, making it a fantastic destination for a lively night out with friends. The energy here is infectious, with upbeat music and a buzzing crowd that creates a genuinely celebratory mood. However, this high-energy transformation means it might not be the best fit for families with small children in the evening. The volume and the shift in ambiance are definitely geared towards an adult crowd looking to have a good time. As for the food, it's decent. You'll find your classic Mexican favorites prepared well enough to satisfy your cravings. While it might not be a culinary revelation, it certainly holds its own and complements the overall festive experience. In summary, if you're seeking a dynamic and entertaining evening with a side of Mexican fare and a full dose of nightlife, Mission is a solid choice in DC. Just be prepared for the party to start once the sun goes down!
We had an impromptu family gathering dinner, we were lucky that we didn’t have to wait for table. First of all, we were surprised to find out that there were no chip and salsa for the table (where most of the Mexican restaurants do) and we had to order them. And the chip was not that good, they were pretty hard and thick, which is not what we expected for some home-made chip. The food was okay overall, don’t expect anything impressive. It was a nice ambience restaurant if you’re expecting a pub-like experience. But since we’re here for a family gathering, it was too loud and noisy for us to chat and catch-up. Our food came fast, but our server was way too busy to keep checking in with us. I definitely will not recommend this place for family gathering.
Wanted to take a moment to give a huge thank you to the manager (his name escapes me, so sorry!), event coordinators (Megan & Elizabeth), and our event bartender (Lizzy). We appreciated the communication, accommodations, and overall ease of putting together the event. I do wish I would have been able to connect my music/phone rather than sharing the playlist, but honestly I’m thankful to even have been able to do that and have been in a private space. It was a great vibe overall. There are also parking lots around the restaurant as well. Again, really thankful for everyone who assisted in putting this together. Huge kudos to whoever made the decision to have free (yes, free!) event spaces. The food was also delicious. Thanks again everyone. A special extra shoutout to Lizzy, she was really super attentive, kind, and reassuring. Thank you for a good time!
I didn't have a meal. Just margaritas and apps during happy hour. Both were tasty. I was surprised they don't take cash. Nice place, but I wouldn't go out my way to return.
I'm not sure the real purpose of this restaurant other than to take advantage of people attending the Nats game or who are already drunk. The night I went, I was neither. Left an event at 10:45 on a Wednesday night at the Cove DC looking for some place whose kitchen wasn't closed yet and I could eat. Mission's kitchen didn't close until 11. The downstairs was closed, so had to go upstairs. My semi drunk PIC and I sat at the bar. We were the only ones there, so the bartenders were very attentive. My friend ordered a spicy margarita, served in a blue glass so at first glance one would think something was wrong with the drink. The only thing wrong was it was twice more mixer than tequila. As she was starving, she asked for chips and salsa, not realizing this wasn't a Tex-Mex restaurant that serves those as soon as you sit down. She looked at the menu and asked for chips and guacamole. The bartender charged her for both, so she received 2 trays of chips, one with salsa and one with guacamole. The chips didn't look it, but absolutely tasted burnt. She also ordered the beer battered haddock taco and the mango shrimp taco. I ordered the mango shrimp taco and the potato empanada. If veggie empanadas are on the menu, I'm definitely ordering them. That was a mistake. For $12, these were the worst empanadas I've ever had. The menu described them as roasted potatoes, onion, & charred peppers. These empanadas had maybe 3-4 small diced potato pieces, a few small diced peppers and the rest was some beige mush filling. The shrimp taco was more sauce than anything. The haddock taco reeked as if the fish had gone bad, but the kitchen thought the sauce would hide the smell and served it anyway. She didn't send it back as we had to pay right after we placed the order. Because it was late, we received great service, but what we were served was at the opposite end of the spectrum. I will find other options if ever in this situation again.
Great drinks and quesadillas, poor tacos and service. Saved by the awesome location and atmosphere. Brand new Tex-Mex bar located right across the street from the Nats Stadium. The bar is awesome with three main large bars (1 down stairs and 2 upstairs) with TVs to watch sports at all of them. There are balcony seats that over look the Nats Stadium main entrance providing one of the best people watching seats in the city. The main gripes about this bar is that being Tex-Mex theme with a limited apps and taco menu is that for having an entire menu of tacos, they were mostly bland and disappointing. Worse yet they charged $5 a taco. The service was also poor where we were constantly neglected water after asking 3 times and again when it came time to try to pay our bill we had to again ask server all times. The tequila-mocking bird was very well mixed and worth the money. Beers are almost as expensive here as in the Nats stadium so it’s best to stick to liquor (better bang for your buck). Great place for a company happy hour or after hours team building. Their happy hour times are unbearable if you drink Marg. Carafes. Mon-Wed 5-7. Thurs-Sun 4-7pm. Thurs-Sat 10pm-close for late night happy hour.
Tonight, I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation. Upon arrival, there was no host at the entrance, so I seated myself at the bar. After sitting for about 15 - 20 minutes, I had yet to be acknowledged by the bartender, despite the bar not being overly busy. I was not greeted and ultimately had to ask if I could place an order. After ordering, I was not provided silverware or napkins and had to request them. Overall, I felt unseen and like an inconvenience rather than a guest. I chose to place my order to go so I could enjoy it back at my hotel; however, when I arrived, the order was incorrect, prompting me to write this review. That said, the tacos were absolutely amazing and were the highlight of the experience.
I came for group happy hour. The bar area is huge so our small group seemed dwarfed by the open space. Bartenders were not all that attentive and bathroom lighting was so strange and uncomfortable. Will not be going back.
Very cool atmosphere. It was basically self service with food being half cold and half warm. Not for families. Which very well could have been what impacted the experience. We could not have been the targeted customers.
I would assume that a restaurant in close proximity of Nats stadium would be prepared for large crowds on event nights. Last night was not the case. My friend and I had a 5:45pm reservation, ordered food, and by 6:45pm, the food never arrived. We paid for our drinks and left. I won’t be visiting this location again.
Terrible place to host an event. Manager is unorganized and rude. Will refuse to correct mistakes or try to make things right. EDIT: My friend Jeniea hosted the event and I assisted her which is why MY name isn’t listed. She will be reaching out and I will not be returning to this venue.
