When stepping into Yardbird you should automatically order the Deviled Eggs and an ice tea with lemon. This is a high volume spot but the servers and bartenders like Paul and Tamika do amazingly with making sure each of us feel taken care of. In terms of menu items The Farmer Bowl is fresh and perfect in portion. I like that it’s not over sized so one doesn’t feel stuffed after the meal. The key lime pie is extraordinary and so is there banana bread pudding. Which is massive and could feed a family of eight. The decor is wonderful here with their oval shaped bar and warm upbeat fun tones! This is a perfect spot for brunch or a large family party with all the food on the menu ordered to enjoy! I can't wait to be back!
To whom this may concern, Xavier is an exemplary member of your waitstaff. Not only did he cultivate an Outstanding Dining Experience, he made my wife and I feel like family! He possesses a unique ability to recognize what people really want and that’s rare. We truly appreciated his enthusiasm, energy and extensive knowledge of the menu. He guaranteed our satisfaction and stuck to his word! I couldn’t leave the capital without leaving him a great review. THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE! We’ve been in DC for a few days and this restaurant was a great way to end our trip. This was our first time visiting but surely will not be the last. With so many delicious options to choose from, Xavier pointed us in the right direction by suggesting the “OVER NIGHT CINNAMON SOAKED BISCUITS” served with whipped cream and berries. Please see attached. I had a taste for shrimp and grits but my wife couldn’t decide on just one item so X recommended the “Gravy Train” and she loved it! We also tried the “Ambrosia Fruit Salad” which they top with whipped cream and coconut shavings! Everything was divine! I can’t wait to come back!
I've wanted to come here for a while and I finally made it. My food did not disappoint. I ordered the rotisserie chicken and it was so juicy and flavorful. The cornbread was a favorite at the table - the butter melted perfectly in the center! I also enjoyed the deviled eggs - both variations were very good! I can't wait to visit again try more options.
BEST Fried chicken since Sundays at my grandmas! Cappuccino and apple cobbler delish to finish it off! Our server made the experience even better! We’ll be back!
Went here back in September. I’ll never understand the negative reviews to the food at this place as I’ve never had anything bad yet! It has got to be in my top 10 favorite restaurants in DC. I will say I have experienced iffy service which wasn’t the best but the food and ambiance makes up for it. This go around I decided to get the Wagyu burger. I usually would do the fried chicken, salmon, or french toast depending if it’s brunch or dinner. I’d vary the sides or mooch off my friends and haven’t had anything off putting. Anyway, something spoke to me to get the burger and I was thrilled. I still think of the burger and it’s been a month+ since I’ve had it. My friends will tell me I need to let it go but I simply won’t. I do want to add that the server attempted to sell me on the steak frites after I inquired on the price since it’s labeled “MP” on the menu. I believe at the time it was $75 and I thought that was not worth it. At one point she highlighted it was boneless. I chuckled as I’ve never experience a bone-in steak frites before.
Made reservations to make sure we were able to get a table and we were seated right away. Greeted by multiple staff members. Lots of menu options but we decided on the fried green tomatoes and the Texas Twinkies... You will not be disappointed. The chicken and waffles are amazing! We were too full to try to dessert, but will definitely be back!
What a great location with amazing staff and immaculate vibes. Everything is set up to make sure you enjoy your dining experience. And then the food comes out and it’s incredible. Devilled eggs, fried chicken, short rib over dirty rice, it was all so delicious. And the cocktails too, wow. Will definitely be back
Fantastic meal and even better service and conversation with our server, Xavier. We have been in Washington D.C. all week and have eaten our way across the city….by far our favorite server we’ve had. The chicken and waffles were cooked to perfection (I’m an expert in C & W) and they accommodated our substitution requests. 100% would go back and thank you, Xavier for a great last meal in Washington, D.C.!
Great experience. Had the chicken and waffles and was some of the best I've had. Sat at the bar, friendly staff, gorgeous interior, and the food was delicious. On the more expensive side per plate but definitely worth it from time to time of the food quality is consistent with what I had.
Three people independently found Yardbird while looking for a place we all could enjoy. We found a new favorite style of fried green tomatoes, an elegant environment and welcoming, professional staff. And chocolate bacon cake. Enjoy!
Sofia Z was an amazing! We went with her recommendations, and had plenty of food on our plates. The lobster mac and cheese was a delicious birthday dinner, and think you so much for my special birthday present! We will definitely be back to eat again the next time we are in town!
Great meal, service, and vibe. We have one in our group with gluten allergies and there were plenty of options to accommodate. Loved all of it. Chicken and waffles were a hit x’s 3
My friends and I came for brunch and had a wonderful experience! Food was delicious, ask your server what they recommend, Xavier didn’t lead us astray! Quick service, cute atmosphere and a happily full stomach! Thank you Yardbird!
**Exquisite Dining at Yardbird Table & Bar 🍗🥗** Our dining experience at Yardbird Table & Bar in Washington, D.C. was nothing short of extraordinary. Having made a reservation, we were promptly escorted to our table, appreciating the efficiency and hospitality right from the start. The ambiance was charming, providing a pleasant backdrop to what would be a memorable culinary evening. 🌸 The service at Yardbird was impeccable. The staff exuded warmth and professionalism, and our server was attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our dining experience with thoughtful recommendations and a genuine smile. 🌟 Our meal began with delightful greens – a fresh side salad and a classic wedge salad, each prepared with crisp, vibrant ingredients that awakened our palates. 🥬 The popcorn shrimp followed, which were perfectly cooked to a light, crispy finish. Each bite was a testament to the expertise in their kitchen. 🍤 The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the rotisserie chicken meal. This dish was a revelation; the chicken was irresistibly tender and juicy, surpassing any rotisserie chicken I've ever enjoyed. The flavors were beautifully balanced, making it an unforgettable centerpiece of our meal. 🍽️ Yardbird Table & Bar has earned a special place in my dining ventures, combining culinary excellence with heartfelt service. I eagerly anticipate our next visit to savor more of their delectable offerings.
If you’re on the fence, just go — the menu is well edited and everything was terrific. Chicken and waffles — a delight. Wagu burger — outstanding. Cow to bird, it was all good!
First visit to Yardbird DC. Our initial introduction to Yardbird was during a trip to Las Vegas. So we made it our business to make a reservation and visit this location while in the DC area. We were joined by friends who were first timers. We were greeted as soon as we entered the door and promptly ushered to our table. The place was bustling, seems there was a company party on one side of the restaurant. In addition to the after work crowd. The decor is fitting, sets a relaxed evening vibe. Perfect for food and drinks. Comfortable seating and plenty of space for couples and larger groups. On to the food. For the appetizers we had both versions of the Deviled Eggs; the original and the Jalapeño and Bacon Jam. We also had the Cajun Popcorn Shrimp. For entrees, my wife and I shared the Chicken and Waffles and the Big Easy Blackened Shrimp & Grits. Our friends had the Spicy Blue Crab pasta and also tried the Shrimp and Grits. All of the food was amazingly delicious. Everyone raved over their dishes. For drinks we tried the Blackberry Bourbon lemonade, Firecracker in the Patch and the Southern Peach Bourbon. We had an awesome experience. Kudos to Lanita (manager) and Linda S. (server). The customer service was second to none. We frequent the area so we will return on our next visit.
This is our 3rd Thanksgiving Day with Yardbird. The personalized customer service makes us feel as if we are the only ones in attendance. I appreciate everyone who makes our holiday amazing!
I have been in DC for a decade and somehow missed this gem?! Shrimp and grits - divine! Banana cheesecake dessert - heavenly! Xavier our server - professional and kind!! This just moved up my list of favorite places to eat in DC.
Mother’s Day at Yardbird DC – A Thoughtful Experience with a Few Hiccups My family and I visited Yardbird in Washington, DC for Mother’s Day, and while the experience was overall positive, it came with a few logistical challenges—some expected, some handled impressively well by the staff. Given the holiday rush, we made our reservation a bit late and, understandably, couldn’t secure a single table for our party of seven. We ended up with two separate tables: one for three, and one for four. After booking, I called the restaurant and spoke with a hostess who confirmed that no larger tables were available but kindly noted my request to seat our tables near each other, if possible. Upon arrival, Melanie at the host stand let me know they couldn’t guarantee adjacent seating—and that was fine. But shortly after being seated at the first table, a nearby group finished up, and Melanie quickly reassigned our second table nearby so we could all be close together. That thoughtful gesture really stood out. Managing two young kids split between parents and grandparents was still tricky (note to self: book way earlier next year!), but the staff went above and beyond to make the best of a less-than-ideal situation. As for the restaurant itself, Yardbird has a clean, stylish atmosphere —a mix of industrial loft and upscale Southern charm, with concrete textures and leather furniture throughout. It was busy, as expected on a holiday, but never felt chaotic. The Mother’s Day menu featured a few nice perks: complimentary biscuits and a glass of champagne for moms, which added a festive touch. We kicked things off with the cornbread skillet and deviled eggs. The cornbread, packed with bacon, jalapeños, and corn, paired perfectly with the honey butter. The deviled eggs had a tangy, pickled twist—not quite traditional, but still tasty. For my entrée, I ordered the fried chicken with strawberry cheesecake waffles. The chicken was excellent—crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The waffles, on the other hand, didn’t hit the mark for me. They were mini waffles filled with a cream cheese layer and a caramelized sugar topping, but the flavor was too muted. I found myself wishing for a classic Belgian waffle instead. Since I wasn’t eligible for the champagne (not a mom :/ ), I opted for the Well, I Declare—a cognac-based cocktail and a delightful riff on the sidecar. It was well-balanced, not too sweet, and elegantly presented. Final Thoughts: Yardbird DC delivered a memorable Mother's Day experience with attentive service and a welcoming vibe. While our seating arrangement wasn't ideal, the staff’s proactive approach made a big difference. The food had high points—especially the fried chicken and appetizers—with only a few missteps. I'd definitely return, just with a bit more planning next time!
Thanksgiving dinner at the Yard Bird was a fabulous experience from start to finish. From the welcoming atmosphere, to the excellent service, to the absolutely delicious food, we had a marvelous time. We can’t wait to come back!
This is a really popular place and now I know why. The fried chicken is the best and the short rib with Momma’s mash was delicious. The Brussel sprouts were good but could’ve been a little crispier. The bacon bourbon chocolate was decadent and I wish it had more ice cream, the huge slice needed at least 3 scoops! I’ll definitely be back to try other things on the menu. 6/1/2025: 2nd visit and food was not as good as the first. Got the lobster Mac and cheese (7/10), brisket: came out as a sandwich which I wasn’t expecting. But meat was tender. Deep fried Oreos (6/10), batter was too thick so it masked the taste of the Oreo. Apple cobbler (5/10), wish this was more like an apple crumble with more crunchiness.
Dining at Gordon Ramsay’s Yardbird in Washington, DC was an incredible experience that exceeded my expectations. I started with drinks from the bar, and the cocktails were perfectly crafted, balancing bold flavors with a refreshing twist. For the meal, I enjoyed the chicken and waffles—an unforgettable combination of crispy, juicy chicken with fluffy, golden waffles, perfectly complemented by a drizzle of maple syrup. The fried green tomato BLT was a unique and delicious take on a classic, offering just the right balance of tangy and savory. But the real showstopper was the short rib—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, it simply melted in my mouth. The attention to detail in every dish was obvious, from presentation to the rich layers of flavor. The service was top-notch, with staff who were not only friendly but also knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, Gordon Ramsay’s Yardbird is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a truly elevated dining experience.
The St. Louis ribs were amazing. Mashed potatoes some of the best ones I’ve had in a long time. I really didn’t care for the collard greens. They were on the sweeter side. I don’t like sweet collard greens. Had a Great time the drinks were a little pricey as well, but I would definitely go back! They also gave me a big birthday cake slice which I was impressed.
Yardbird food is delicious 😋 I’ve had the pleasure to dine at the New York Ave NW, Washington DC location for a work social gathering. The food and service is always great. Staff is friendly, food is hot, fresh, and made of good quality. The pictures speak for themselves. I devoured the Strawberry And Bibb Lettuce Salad, skillet cornbread, and Brussels sprouts. Although, I don’t eat meat I was told that the Chicken And Waffles with the bourbon maple syrup was delicious as well as the deviled eggs. The key lime pie was a great choice and was gluten free. You can order online, make reservations, or check out their catering service on their website. I will be back to check out their brunch and happy hour soon. Check them out if you’re local or in the area looking for that southern cuisine. You won’t be disappointed and they have a good menu variety.
Yardbird never disappoints! I popped in for a quick lunch between two meetings and was serviced promptly. I explained to the server, John, that I needed to do an “express lunch.” He obliged and I had my appetizer and meal within 15 minutes of sitting down! This allowed me to enjoy my lunch and still make my next engagement. The food was amazing. It was hot, flavorful and filling. I even had some to take home! Yardbird holds a special place in my heart as it’s the place (specifically this location) where my husband and I had our first date. I’m so happy that even years later, the experience is still top tier!
I had such a great time celebrating my brother bday. The experience was further enhanced by our server Mr. Paul (PA 🙂). His drinks were on point, food suggestions top tier and customer service is what I hope to experience whenever I step out for dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant and Paul as your server.
Our valentine's plans fell through so we got a last minute reservation which was a lifesaver. The customer service was amazing as soon as you walked in the door with the hostess. The food was great and came quickly. They refilled our water consistently before we could even finish the glass. The cocktails were very good. I truly can't think of a better experience.
Had a great experience here last night thanks in HUGE part to Maria, who gave perfect service! She was very informed about the menu. Even though we've eaten here several times, she gave my friends and I great advice about portion sizes and whether I might enjoy the crab pasta. She noticed that my friend was given a kids size portion of his entree by mistake, and without us even raising a sound. Came back with the right portion. She was attentive but not overbearing and very pleasant. We had the cornbread and deviled eggs to start, the cornbread is always yummy. I did not love the deviled eggs but that's a personal preference. I had the crab pasta, usually get the crab cakes and they are good in a city where we don't play about our crab cakes! One of my friends had the rib entree and it looked delicious. Even though I don't eat meat. They came served under a smoker like you would get a smoked old fashioned and she said they were very good. I gave four stars my atmosphere only because depending on where you sit, it can be a little loud.
I took my girlfriend here for Valentine’s Day, and everything was amazing. The food was the star of the show and left us both speechless! Easily one of the best restaurants in DC! Our waitress was also extremely nice and helpful!
I had a wonderful experience at Yardbird in DC. My boyfriend and I drove in from Virginia to go to the restaurant the day after Valentine’s Day. I made reservations before hand. The food is so delicious always flavored and made so well. I enjoyed the dessert rose drink I had 2 of them and the atmosphere was very welcoming and lively.
Great service from beginning to end. We visited during the lunch hours and was immediately seated upon entering. Our waitress, Tynisha, was very attentive and provided quick and efficient service. I do think it was a little pricey, but the food was good. There were 4 in our group and we tried the Crab Cake, Ribs (beautifully plated), Brisket (hefty portion), and Pasta (Spicy). We also got the 7 layer chocolate cake (very shareable!!) And the delectable Kiwi pie. Not sure if I'll visit again, but only because we're here for a short visit and I want to try several places. Definitely a restaurant to visit though.
I haven’t been back for four years. My previous experience was better because of service. The food remained good as always. Our assigned server was a little reactive and slower than others. The manager was pleasant and service focused. We had the deviled eggs, the wagyu burger, huevos rancheros, fried chicken with gravy in a biscuit with cheese (gravy train breakfast sandwich), and French dip sandwich. No complaint with the food.
It’s obvious in a positive way that there’s a big emphasis on service here. The food is nicely prepared, but no attempt at exciting presentation. There’s too many groups and kids to make it a fine dining experience. But a fairly nice group or family outing.
First time at yardbird. Cute decor. We came for brunch. Really enjoyed the white peach mimosas. The biscuits are a must have but next time I must try that jalapeno cornbread. I had to send my wagyu burger back bc I specifically asked prior to ordering not to have a runny egg. In general, massive portions. The crème brûlée pancakes were so tasty and the Mac and cheese was very good. I do wish our server was more attentive. Felt like he could have checked in more.
The restaurant is beautiful, open and large. The food I rate at 3.0. My daughter got the waffles and chicken. Chicken was crispy but the waffles have like jalapeños in it so she did not eat it. I got the backyard BBQ. The ribs were fine and burnt ends. Chicken however was not fully marinated and was not cooked properly. My husband got the YB Nashville chicken. The chicken skin is medium spicy not the chicken itself . My son got from the kids menu tenders and fries which was fine. Our food was over $300 which was surprising! They charged us a 18% gratuity which we were told after is for the overhead cost of the restaurant. That gratuity does not include tip for the server so we had to tip separately. Our waiter took our order twice. I think she did not write it down thoroughly. Honestly, we will never visit again.
We were in town for business and decided to try this spot. My honey was craving shrimp and grits, so it seemed to fit the bill. We started out with the biscuits and cornbread. The biscuits were good… the cornbread, however was absolutely amazing! For our mains I went with the St Louis ribs, they were extremely good. Plenty of meat there. Good flavor, tender, just hat ribs should be. My honey loved the shrimp and grits. I tasted a shrimp, and yeah, pretty solid choice there. We also shared a Mamas Mashed potatoes. They were mashed potatoes. Hard to mess those up. The only downer for the visit was the service. Our server literally checked his messages on his Apple Watch while ordering. I guess Facebook Messenger was pretty important to him. We also hardly saw him… water sat empty until someone at the bar finally saw it and took care of it. He made it back in time to give us the check, however… of course with the gratuity already on there…. He wanted to be sure he didn’t miss out on that. The rest of the staff was friendly.
Their fried chicken was okay but their mashed potatoes were amazing. Unfortunately your sides if you get any are super small. Deviled eggs were horrible! Wouldn't recommend based off my taste buds. The next time we came i tried the nashville hot chicken and it was really good! It came with "texas toast" if you'd call it that. It was just thick white bread not toasted 😂 This place is expensive and they charge a gratuity even for 2 people. I believe it was 18%. Not 5 worthy in my books but try them out
Enjoyed the food and the drinks. A bit on the pricey side but it is spacious so you can carry a conversation without shouting. All of the plates presented well and my rib eye steak was cooked to perfect medium rare. Overall, a great place to have a night out with friends and to celebrate a little.
Very cool chicken restaurant that has a fun vibe. Great drink menu. Great gluten free options. Huge servings.
A very busy, noisy and bustling place. Lots of options for cocktails and a reasonable selection of beers. Our table service was slow however, our server was attentive to the table when with us. Food portions are large and well presented. I especially liked the theatre of my Ribs arriving under a smoke filled glass dome!
I would say overall a 4.5 star experience based on location and yummy food. Decided to try this restaurant as a family after the car show. It was very convenient since it was a walking distance. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried their beer chicken, wedge salad, lobster mac and cheese, and kids burger with fries. Our server was nice but not very attentive, and it wasn't even that busy. I don't think the server checked on us after we got our food and had to be found to get the check. That is the main reason for knocking a half star.
Chicken was good and crispy. Tasty mashed potatoes. Don’t care much for the hot sauce provided. Deviled eggs were tasty.
Over-hyped in my opinion… it was fine, but not a place I’d get excited about. I couldn’t get over a soda water was $5!!!! The biscuits are what made this a good experience for me!!! The okra was also yummy. They’re known for their chicken, so I was excited to try that, but their “not spicy” chicken was still spicy to me (not sure if I was served the wrong one or if it is just spicy). There was an event going on while we were there and when it ended, they were moving furniture in and out and left the door open to the (covered) outside area where they store furniture and it was SO cold, I had to put my jacket on during dinner. Probably won’t go back, but if I did, I’d get the biscuits!
The atmosphere is loud but good enough to have a conversation with your party and spacious enough from fellow diners. The prices were fairly expensive compared to other places for the same quality. We were not excited about the BLT meal that did not only not come in sandwich form, but also had unique qualities like deep-fried tomatoes. I had the the steak on a stone for $49 and though it was okay. The hamburger was far too large and difficult to eat, but for $36 it should be special.
Yard bird was decent! We were new to Chicago and heard a lot about it so going into it our expectations were really high. The atmosphere was dark and chic, and we got a nice welcome from the host. Our food took a little while to get to us but when it did, it was presented beautifully. We ordered the Shrimp & grits, Fried chicken plate, and some wine. First thing that I noticed was that my grits were cold. Besides that plate was delicious, and the flavors worked well together. The fried chicken could’ve used a bit more seasoning, and the mashed potatoes were the star of that dish. We felt like the portions and price didn’t align, but everything was pretty decent!
Overall verdict: It's a really nice restaurant, but it's very overpriced (for the taste and portion size) and not worth returning to. I even recommend skipping dessert — $16 is outrageous for a tiny apple cobbler, or a key lime pie with a strange undertaste. Classy decor, excellent Cajun popcorn shrimp and rotisserie bird, good spicy blue crab pasta (need to be retrained on shucking), and disappointing deviled eggs. I gave the service one star, and deducted a star from my overall rating, because of a truly terrible hostess. I called to place an order for pick-up, explaining that inKind doesn't allow orders to be placed. She flatly refused to take my order, presumably out of laziness. She said I would have to order in person and that it would take 20 minutes. I've never heard of a restaurant refuse an order that will be paid instantly. Unsurprisingly, her time estimate was completely wrong. What a waste of 40 minutes!!
Came here for date night. Service was great. Atmosphere was ok, like a dimly lit bar. Nothing cozy or romantic. They have an interesting take on their dishes. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was good. The shrimp and grits was not as expected. It had no sauce, and it looked like they scraped the burnt char off the grill into the bowl. After tasting it, I couldn't bring myself to eat it, and sent it back for a burger. The backyard BBQ dish was ok. I wasn't expecting the huge piece of baked non-BBQ chicken in the middle along with 2 measly ribs, which did have a nice sauce on them. Overall, the prices are very high for what you get. Gratuity is included. I spent nearly $200 for an unsatisfying meal.
Save your money and go to popeyes. I've been to the other yardbird location in vegas and this was a significant downgrade. First off the staff is kind off rude and made me feel like a nuisance for showing up to a near empty restaurant at 6pm. Compared to the warm hospitality at vegas i was very disappointed. The food portions are pretty large which is good because they cost a fortune, however its not very suitable for one person. They dont have half portions which ive seen at similar restaurants. I ordered the Nashville chicken. It was not spicy but it was so greasy that you'll get heartburn instead of the heat from the spice anyways. Again something that i found a big downgrade compared to the other location.
I love southern cooking because of its soul and comfort. Overall Yardbird did not hit the mark for these two things. Where they did excel was in service! The staff is welcoming and checked on us constantly to see if we needed anything / refilled our drinks. The restaurant is beautiful and could be a great date spot on looks alone. I will give credit where credit is due and the Skillet cornbread was AMAZING and something i would recommend as well as the Brussel Sprouts! You can skip out on the steak tartare, deviled eggs (To be fair - I don't really like deviled eggs but if you do get it, get the one with bacon that one's better than the classic one!) and the fried green tomatoes (sadly this is included only because the pork was so thick, i feel like if it was thinner it would have been better to let the tomato shine through). I think my two biggest let downs were the Mac and cheese which honestly just tasted like chicken bouillon, the crust and noodle shape was a great touch; and the Steak, which although having the cowboy butter did not have any seasoning (salt or pepper) it tasted like they threw it on the grill, and hoped the butter would do the rest. The mashed potatoes were decent, but not a southern potato.
When we arrived and placed our order, we were told they were out of several items, including the low & slow brisket, short ribs, and BBQ chicken skewers. We adjusted and ordered the rotisserie bird and the backyard BBQ instead. About five minutes later, our server returned to let us know those items were also unavailable. By that point, we had already finished our appetizers (the classic deviled eggs and Cajun popcorn shrimp), so we decided to leave. Our server was great and apologized profusely, and we truly appreciated her professionalism. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed that we didn’t get the chance to try any of the main dishes.
