Hedges did not disappoint. Good service, good drinks and good food. All served in a great space. We'll be back.
Excellent seafood. Recommend the shellfish pot pie and the Faroe Island salmon. Can be busy, so make reservations. Open seasonally. Another visit. Beautiful view, super service from Wendy, and the most fantastic prime rib around.
Our favorite place for all our family events ! Amazing always ! The whole atmosphere is warm And the best sunset in Rochester !
This is such a great place, very casual and upscale, food is always tremendously good, although can get pricey, I recommend the sea bass if they have it on the menu. The bar is chill and the lounge has live music sometimes. Have enjoyed going here with family or just to listen to a show and grab a drink.
Everything about our dining experience was 5 stars. Our server, Dawn, was the best. We enjoyed a couple of their house specialty cocktails before dinner. The Tuscan Seafood Pasta was abundant with assorted seafoods and enough for two meals, the best! The stuffed flounder special with arugula was just as good. What a wonderful pairing. For dessert we shared the pecan bread pudding with bourbon butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was so good and we had plenty to take home to enjoy later. Great upscale dining experience, highly recommended.
We just went there spur of the moment on a hot day. Sat outside had a few drinks overlooking the lake. Great little server helped us
Nice place to celebrate those once in a life time accomplishments such as your 37th wedding anniversary with friends. After the meal, we chilled in the outdoor gazebo and watched the sun set. (Recommend this during the summer months!)
Absolutely wonderful food and service. Must be experienced.
We had an excellent experience for lunch. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were seated immediately even without a reservation. 2 of us had the seafood salad that was loaded with fresh scallops, lobster and crab meat over mixed greens. The seafood was abundant. Our friends seafood pot pie also had an abundance of fresh lobster, scallops and crab meat and was described as delicious. Made them think of New England. The drinks were well made and tasty. The waitress and staff were excellent with a great ambiance on the lake. Perfect service. I can't wait to go back again.
Best prime rib in the county! Beautiful view overlooking the lake.
Great atmosphere for summer overlooking the lake. Always had excellent meals , ignore negative reviews have never had a bad meal there. Large portions and cooked to perfection.
First off, great setting , on the lake, beautiful sunset. The staff were friendly, the meals were good. The Filet Mignon was tender and cooked just right. The Pork Chops were the best tasting we ever had out. One of us had the seafood pasta, I was told that was delicious as well and plenty of food
Delicious!! We had king crab legs and prime rib, wild rice, sweet potato fries, salad and I even ordered a half bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc.... Cinnamon apple creme brulee for dessert. And the view....simply breath taking. This is a must go, romantic night out, birthday celebration or just because... We happen to be celebrating our very first anniversary and at the end of the evening a couple came up to our table and told us how they had gotten engaged there and they were on their 53rd wedding anniversary date simply amazing...
Hedges on the Water is an absolute gem! My friends and I had such a fantastic time here. The service was impeccable from the moment we walked in - friendly and attentive staff who made us feel right at home. The drinks were delicious; they really know how to mix a perfect cocktail. And let's talk about the view - stunning! Sitting by the water, enjoying our drinks while watching the sunset was such a serene experience. It's definitely one of the best spots in Webster to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature. I highly recommend Hedges on the Water if you're looking for a great atmosphere, excellent service, and a view that can't be beat. We'll definitely be back!
Nice stately pla e by the water. Go early, reserve a table at the window to really view the water. Cocktail before outside. Lobster Bisque is perfect. Surf and turf very pricey and excellent.
Prime Rib is a star. Nightly specials are chef specific and were well conceived. Traditional lake atmosphere that you can’t really find any more in a public restaurant on the water. True to their origins.
I attended a surprise birthday party at Hedges last Saturday, and it couldn't have been any nicer. I have heard wonderful things about Hedges but had never been there. The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was perfect with a piano player in the background, and the service was fantastic. The servers went out of their way to make sure everyone was taken care of.
I had the most wonderful birthday experience with you guys. The bar was fantastic! The bartender Mike was awesome, music was great and the food and drinks were excellent!
Hedges has recently become a family favorite! We love the atmosphere, we’ve never had a bad meal, the service is always excellent, and we sometimes get to hear live music on Friday & Saturday nights! Its good to make a reservation if possible, but on off nights a small party can usually be seated right away. Have I mentioned the view? It’s right on lake Ontario where you can view gorgeous sunsets from the patio, balcony, or lawn. Our favorite seats are actually the booths in the bar area which are rarely occupied. This classy, timeless, and nautical venue feels like an escape from modern society and a must-visit if you live in the greater Rochester area!
Hedges was a childhood favorite of my husband and his family growing up. We visited it again in the Spring with family that moved back to town and have quickly made it a spot we love to meet up at. Great food, good service, beautiful view. Perfect little summer getaway for dinner on the water!
Went with a group of six. Service was first class and we had a great table by the large windows looking out on the sunset over the lake. Amazing. Tasty mixed bread in a basket, good wine and all six different meals received 5 stars from our friends.
One of my favorite spots. Amazing food and view. I tell all my friends to give it a try.
Hedges has been my family's go to place for any celebration for my entire life. I don't get there as often as I used to, but always glad I made the trek. Winter is the perfect time to request a table in the lounge by the fireplace and the piano bar. Recommend the Clams Casino, Prime Rib, Twin Filets with Lobster claws, and the Chicken and Shrimp French. The ice cream with brownie is enough for 4 people.
I have to say that absolutely every bit of our night out at Hedges was great! We had a reservation and were seated right away. The waiter (Dawn) and her helper were a great team. We were served water with rolls and butter right away. Drink orders were taken quickly and delivered quickly. We ordered dinner and then enjoyed our drinks while admiring the beautiful view of Lake Ontario out the enormous windows. Dinner arrived and was incredible! My wife had the "Generous Cut" prime rib and it was a perfect medium rare, just as she ordered it. I had the Tuscan Seafood Pasta which contains a huge amount of great seafood. We had awesome service, food, and views. We will definitely be going back again.
Great food, quick service and reasonable prices for a fine dining experience.
We made reservations earlier in the week and were able to get an early time for dinner. They only take phone reservations, no online. Parking was difficult for handicapped. The parking lot is a little difficult to get around if you are not used to it. Arrows would be a great help! Our table was ready when we arrived (5:30) we ordered cocktails, a cup of lobster bisque and the apricot Sriracha duck wings. The bisque was loaded with chuncks of lobster, was hot and perfectly seasoned! The wings were a delight if you like sweet and slightly spicey. The dinner enteees came with a huge fresh salad, which we couldn't finish. We ordered 2 petite prime ribs and the scallop entree. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had to take home the prime rib since we couldn't finish. Service was friendly, efficient, and prompt. There was even live music on our Friday night, guitar, and percussion duo. Great sound and variwty of tunes. After dinner we walked out to the waterfront lawn to enjoy the sights and the beginning of sunset. We definitely recommend Hedges! A must see and experience, upscale restaurant with a multigenerational history and vibe of the Rat Pack and Great Gatsby Era.
Love visiting this beautiful historical restaurant. My fourth visit ths year was absolutely worth a fifth visit. Food and cocktails are fantastic plus from appetizers, entrees to dessert with roll baskets with real butter, water on table because the service is always solid and owner on premises. Highly recommended
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Hedges and we had a lovely experience. Be sure to book a reservation and then arrive early to enjoy a cocktail by the lake before your meal. You’ll enjoy a phenomenal dinner with excellent service. We will visit again!
We had never eaten at Hedges prior but had heard good things. An old school feel with live jazz music inside. There is some outside seating with nice view of the lake, a little disappointed only cocktail service available though. Food and service were well done. Can definitely recommend.
We had the best experience ever. The food was excellent. All the dishes were beyond expectation. My mom is very hard to please, and even she said that she did not remember as enjoyable evening as we had today in the longest time. Our waitress Liz was very attentive. We sat outside in adirondack chairs and marveled at sunset after dinner. Thank you very much!
We had a table where we could view Lake Ontario and watched as a rain storm materialized over the lake. Waitress was extremely accommodating and the food was excellent. Have never had a disappointing meal at Hedges.
Sea bass was amazing both times I was there. Lobster bisque was great as well. Oysters are overpriced for the quality hence the 4 stars. Atmosphere is great. Busy, fun, great music. Love the seating around the piano. View and outdoor area are stunning.
A pleasant surprise, you will pass it if you aren't looking. The hostess was very sweet and got me my table for 3, me, myself, and I, right away. Michelle was an awesome server, and the server's assistant was super attentive and kind. Not to mention the Kobe burger was great, the live music, the vibe, the view, yep I will be back before I leave!!! Make a reservation if you are not your own party of 3.
had a birthday dinner here and the waiter was friendly and accommodating. The people was very nice, that's very important even if the food is good and I didn't feel welcome I would never return. Ally family loved the restaurant. The food was very delicious. Everyone order was correct for such a large party.
Lovely place, fantastic views, storied history. The menu suffers from complacency. There is not a single vegan item on it. However, the high quality staff was very accommodating and had the kitchen prepare a vegan meal.
My husband surprised me for our anniversary. I would bet the view is amazing in the summer and would love to go back and see it. I had the seafood pasta. I would try it again but I felt the seafood was a bit overdone and it was soupy but still good enough to try again. My only disappointment was I need to be dairy free and there were no safe options in salad dressings. I was offered a bottle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I would have thought in a restaurant of this caliber I would have had a choice.
First time dining at Hedges in years. Great location on a nice warm summer evening. Decor is nautical themed. The server was great. Our food was prepared well. I have the prime rib, which was excellent. My wife had the filet, which was supposed to be gluten-free. However, she was served with an onion ring on it, and her green beans were gluten contaminated. The server tried, however, was disappointed considering the price of the entre.
Went for my Mother's birthday, you only turn 80 once after all! One of her friends suggested Hedges and let me tell you the location does not disappoint. Right on the lake with plentiful outdoor seating and views of the lake and (eventually) the sunset. The facility has a very old school restaurant feel to it, a 70's vibe if you will. They have a long bar and a piano with seating around it. Even had a live musician playing. The place can get a little loud, but I felt it added to the energy of the place, I don't particularly like silent eating lol! Drinks are on the strong side, those that complain about them being "too" strong are likely used to going to places with a very tight control on the booze pours. I had the Old Fashioned and it was full of muddled fruit and a good strong whiskey. Delicious, butI wish I was out side drinking it! They also have quite a few beers on tap and canned products as well as a full bar. My Specialty cocktail was only $12 which is I feel fair for a drink at this type of restaurant. Now to the food...it ain't cheap. But the portions were great, and the quality was mostly excellent. I say mostly Two of us had the Surf and Turf, a massive 10 oz lobster tail and filet Mignon, with perfectly crisp tender green beans I forget the size but about 2 inches thick. Lobster was perfect, succulent and tender with butter. The Filet (with garlic butter)is where I struggled, ordered medium rare, I received medium to medium well. Filet gets funky to me when it is past medium the lack of fat just makes it taste underwhelming. Had a good sear to it and the garlic butter made it workable though. My wife had the Blackened Salmon Caesar salad a much more reasonable price, and she still brought half of it home, the salmon was perfect and the salad was...well it's salad. lol Last was my Mom's friend medium Prime Rib, again not an unreasonable price, and it was absolutely massive! Au jus was very rich and topped it off nicely, I would add some Horseradish but she was not interested in my opinion lol. Last the service, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff could not have been nicer and more attentive. The hostess sat us quickly from our reservation, and even made a cute comment about me having three attractive ladies in my party, made them all giggle. Our waitresses were two younger ladies ( Liz I believe was the waitress) were both excellent, they listened, they quickly took care of a few requests (extra Blue Cheese from my Mom!). Water glasses were filled and empty plates whisked away, but we never felt rushed. They both honestly seemed happy to be helping us and participating in our experience. All in all a great time, worth the money capped with great people and a special feel. Just lost one star because they call themselves a surf and turf joint, the filet should have knocked my socks off...but I will be back and order it Rare next time!!
We had excellent food. I had the house salad with crumbled blue cheese and Italian dressing to start, and the veggie rosoto...a huge portion. It was even better the next day! My husband had the Caesar Salad and the Faro Island salmon.
Food was on the higher end and wasn't to die for. I had a Cowboy steak and mashed potatoes that were okay, but for $75, I was expecting great. I'd go back for drinks and apps to enjoy the sunset and music.
I’d like to start by saying the restaurant is beautiful, and has a stunningly beautiful view. Wendy, our server was amazingly attentive and had one of the best attitudes, however I was honestly disappointed in the food, it may cater to an older crowd but as a surf and turf place I’d hope for a better seasoned steak, it had a lack of sear and all of the juice ended up pooling on the plate. The bisque lacked a lot of flavor. I think this place is amazing and would love to come back because of the amazing atmosphere but maybe just for a cocktail to watch the sunset, at its current point the cuisine doesn’t match the price tag
The restaurant has amazing views of Lake Ontario. There's a nice lawn with seating and cute small lighthouses that light up at night. There's plenty of parking here and the restaurant has a nice local vibe. On Friday night, there was a live band. Service was attentive and quick. The Chicken Brittany is their version of the Chicken French. It comes with salad and your choice of starch. This is a very filling meal and I've only had Chicken French one other time and it's definitely unique and was good. Overall a good place to treat yourself and others
This is the kind of place we need to visit for ambiance and peace rather than food. It is located on the shore, and one can get a beautiful view of sunset. There are many chairs available outdoor. It is such a peaceful place. Coming to food, it’s good except for few items. Chicken soup is the best one I had there. Desserts are great. I felt food should have been much better.
Really good service and beautiful property! The restaurant has a retro boat house feel. Really sets a mood and tons of seating indoors and outside. Outdoor dining isn't allowed, but you can enjoy your drinks out there. There was a really nice gazebo, that is perfect next to the water. I'd like to try lunch next time! Dinner was delicious, but slighty expensive. You definitely pay for the experience and location! Can't wait to waste some time and money when we go back!!! 😎
This was a big disappointment as far as the food goes. I was really looking forward to trying Hedges, due to it's reputation as one of the better resteraunts in Webster. The only thing I was impressed with was the view and our service staff. Our waitress was awesome. Impeccable service and super friendly. The view was absolutely beautiful, too. Nothing like a nice view of Lake Ontario as the sun sets. We did enjoy the live music and atmosphere. It made the night enjoyable with our friends and family. The food was not that great. We had the seabass with risotto and the fish was quite spongy. I do not recommend! The risotto was okay. The side salad had too much dressing on it, so I suggest asking for dressing on the side. I love dressing, but it was as if too much poured out and they added a little more lettuce to absorb the extra dressing. It was only edible in certain spots. My family had the prime rib and chicken cutlet. All okay. Pretty decent portions. The carrot cake tasted like a mixture of food. The cake must've been stored with seafood/food as the cake part absorbed its flavor. Uck. I thought it was just me because I had the seabass, but other family members said it did taste like "the refrigerator." All in all, I'd come back for drinks, service and fun...but not for the food.
I’ve always loved going to Hedge’s. Location and decor are wonderful. Tonight it was so loud we could barely have a conversation. The musician was good but his sound track tambourine was AWFUL! The food was served so quickly I don’t know how they had time to cook it. My rice was spoiled to the point where I not only couldn’t eat it, but it’s smell ruined my dinner. I ordered a Kahlua with cream that appeared/tasted to be made with skim milk. Our server was wonderful and I feel sorry for her having to serve such a bad dinner.
Service was good, lobbster bisque was excellent burger was ok unfortuturely found a hair in it after eating half of it, onion rings were kinda greasy, it was our anniversary very disappointed havent been here in 6 years, food was better then
We went to celebrate our 50th anniversary on the exact day we had our reception at Hedges 50 years ago. Our reservation was honored quickly and then we were taken to the most unromantic table in the place. We were right on the servers line of traffic, the view of the lake was blocked many times by the service station, and it was so noisy that we could hardly talk to one another. The meal was ok, although parts of it left a lot to be desired. My husband did enjoy his prime rib, while I would say the best part of my meal was the creme brulee at the end. The wait staff was attentive, but not overly friendly. Frankly it was a pretty big disappointment.
Great place if you are looking to grab drinks and enjoy a beautiful view of the water but other than that, the atmosphere itself was not the best looking or best smelling either. Two surf and turfs, clams casino and a few drinks later me and my partner ultimately decided we won’t be returning here. You can get you money’s worth elsewhere as far as the service and food quality goes and the only thing that they have everyone beat at is the waterfront view. Server forgot our bread and lemons, had to repeatedly ask for these sides, service was probably at 6/10, food was at best 7/10 and location was 9/10.
Jordan the bartender was quick but never smiles. Should probably be behind the scenes. Not a pleasant person
Food was good, service was good atmosphere is quite dated. Outside Lakefront dining was not offered. If you're going to have a lakefront restaurant, you should probably have outside dining. Probably not coming back. The price I paid was not equal to the quality of the meal.
We made 730 reservations and finally got seated at 8pm. We got seated in the bar area with the piano player who was good but too loud. We asked to be moved, the server said she would ask. We never got moved. Little things like no butter with bread, no side with salmon. The servers were too busy to catch them my husband called the owner over who was very dismissive. The owner didn't seem to care about customer service. My salmon was very good, my husband's meal okay. I would go for drinks outside and go somewhere else for dinner. Not worth the wait!
My wife and I have celebrated our anniversaries and birthdays at Hedges for a number of years now and the experience and food has always been the best. Just celebrated our anniversary last night and unfortunately the experience was not top notch. Menu prices are now exorbitant and when I ordered a filet mignon at almost $50 for an 8 ounce cut I naturally thought it better be good. The chef's first attempt was a piece of meat that was like chewing rubber, it was obviously a bad cut. The waitress retrieved my plate of food to come back later with a fresh plate. The second chef attempt was somewhat better although still fatty. The meat had a gamey taste which I have never tasted in a filet mignon before. Definitely did not meet my expectations. Therefore my wife and I agreed that this was our last time at Hedges for the unjustified menu prices and disappointing food quality. It seems inflation and the mandated higher minimum wage have impacted the customer experience and that is why we say goodbye to Hedges.
Website is total junk …. Who ever created it failed because you can’t read the menu as it rotates too fast … DUH … plus a restaurant like this should be open Sunday after church due to the tourist like destination…food poor compared to their yesteryear hay days… very sad that they don’t have a great chef at a location like this, or that they don’t know how to direct an already good chef?… Last time I ate there the Shrimp Cocktail was mediocre as was their take on Clams Casino… this place needs way more love than it’s getting! It’s really a bummer when classic old school restaurants lose their mojo!
There wasn't a single aspect of our meal that was good. Nothing. McDonalds would have been a better option.
My wife and I ordered mashed potatoes with our entree, both were cold so they gave us another bowl - they were cold so I asked for pasta thinking how could they mess that up. It was angel hair with diced tomatoes and completely tasteless. Spent 12 bucks on a cocktail that was also tasteless. We won't go back.
Piano player/ singer was nice. Food was bland, pre cooked and overpriced.
If you have the gall to charge $28 for hamburger it better be the best hamburger I've ever eaten. This was dry overcooked and I would have been better off with a Big Mac , at least that would have had some flavor. When I said something to the waitress about the burger being well done when I ordered medium all she stated was you should have told me sooner. I would have told you sooner if you would have come back to check on us! This is always been a nice place to eat but their prices have gotten ridiculous and the quality of their food is suffering. Three people and available over $160 not including tip I would definitely not recommend going here
This restaurant has a reputation. It's known for its high-end atmosphere and dining experience. The service was excellent. The seating was cramped. The food wasn't spectacular and incredibly overpriced. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a dining experience. However, if you want to have cocktails with an amazing view and comfortable seating, absolutely select this option. It is on beautiful property overlooking Lake Ontario. The service was very friendly. There was one man overseeing everything that wasn't pleasant. Try to ignore him. On a warm evening, order a gin & tonic, walk outside, enjoy the swans and sunset.
Excited to enjoy a great dinner with friends to celebrate our birthdays on 5/24 ended up being not so great! The waitress came ordered drinks which were too strong and the solution to that was to get another drink that wasn’t as strong to add to the drinks we already had. Food was mediocre at best. Wanted to order dessert but the service was very slow so we decided not to. When we finally got our bill, we gave our credit cards and asked if we can go outside to enjoy the sunset with our drinks and if she can bring the slips outside for us to sign. She said no problem. We were followed outside by whom I believe was maybe the manager (Lu) asking us where we were going, we explained that the waitress already had our cards, etc. She definitely thought we were trying to get away with not paying, definitely not the case at all. So we ended up signing the slips, three of us paid with credit cards and one paid with cash. Two of us left cash tips with our signed slips, checking my bank account a few days later noticed that I was charged more along with my friend. Called and spoke Lu and she did send me pictures of the receipt, which the tip written in was not mine or my friends handwriting, I told her that we both gave cash tips but apparently the waitress has no idea where those went. Of course! Also, neither one of those slips had our signatures on them so makes us think they were reprinted and the tip was written into the tip line. Those slips with our signatures were not found. Didn’t appreciate the fact that she acted like we were lying. Not worth lying for less than $20. We did end up getting the tip money back, should of been compensated more for even having to go through something like this. We will definitely not be going there again. Not the same anymore, has gone downhill!!!
A unique experience, not in a good way…my wife’s birthday seemed like a nice occasion to go back to Hedges, a place we haven’t gone to in over 5 years. To our observation, the place looks exactly the way it did 5 years ago, just the same as the clientele, outdated and tired. We grabbed reservations months in advance and dispite being at the top of the reservation list for the day, we were sat in the worse table in the house. What we expected was a nice view of the lake, we never saw the water. We sat to a tiny table for 2 and my salad fork was dirty. Not a great start. We chose to both have a cup of the lobster bisque and a dozen clams. This was the only redeeming factor for the night. The worn out menus were as old as the style of dishes available, but we tried to keep a positive outlook. I asked for a whiskey/bourbon list, to which the server was not able to provide, so she went though the options. Fortunately one of my favorites was amung the list and chose to make an old fashioned with that spirit. My wife ordered a martini. Moments later the watress returned to tell me they didn’t have that spirit. Disappointed but another option was available. Once I received the cocktail, it was clearly made wrong. Not, not to my liking but just missed a step. Still drinkable I didn’t complain. We ordered our meal, my wife chose the Lobster Risottoa and I opted for the signature Tuscan Seafood Pasta. A packed full value of seafood for around $58. Looking forward to the meal, we received in a perfectly reasonable time given the surprising packed restaurant given the early reservation. My wife’s risotto was good, my meal however was beyond repair. The only edible portion was the seafood that was cooked separately in the shells. The base of the dish however was unbelievably overcooked. Rubbery lobster, dry crab meat, but the worse part was the scallops, which I was unaware of the possibility to be so overcooked that it became fiberous. My belief is that the “stew” of different leftovers from the night prior were thrown into a broth to be cooked until no life was able to be found within the meat. Our waitress did everything right as far as she could. Clearly not her fault, she offered many options but at this point we were just looking to be done. I asked for another drink which also came back to be not available, this one considered to be a typical bar standard spirit to have on hand. I opted to just get another one of the first drinks. This one was a little better than the first. She still received a nice tip. I am one to never complain to this level, certainly never send my food back to the kitchen. I can only think of 2 other times in my life I chose to complain or simply not eat. We did receive compensation for my main course. Overall, just disappointed. Would love to try them again in the future. It just wasn’t their night.
The food was good and the atmosphere of the lake was very nice. A little crowded and loud. The Waitress, on the other hand, is the entire reason I will not return. I had 3 friends from Italy with and the waitress was very rude and not very accommodating. Especially when it came to pay. Told one of them that $5 wasn't enough tip. Very rude to people where tipping isn't common in their country.
We are long time customer including a large wedding rehearsal dinner. We have enjoyed many great meals and service. It is with difficulty to have to write this review. We had absolute terrible service. Meal cold, side plated on wrong plate, dessert waited on a service tray for over 10 mins, In our view. No coffee was ever asked if we were interested with meal or dessert. The final was that the bill placed quickly on our table after we waited 30 mins. The bill was the piece of paper she had written our order. No formal print out, not concealed in a booklet, absolutely no way to charge it, unable to read prices , or question one charge . When we have paid there was no way to stand up black book to indicate we had settled bill. Made eye contact with her several times, and indicated we needed her, she turned and left . We handed the cash and what she considered the bill to the bus boy and asked him to give it to her. As we walked out we did see him give to her, but no response from her. I do not like a scene so we left very unhappy with service. The meal was not up to par that we have experienced for the past years. I waited for second day to call and inform a manager. I had cooled down and could be calm. He said we have been in business for 97 years. He said how can you let one situation make it so you will not return. I was accused of not settling it at the restaurant. No apology. I ended the call. We will find a establishment that believes in their customers.
We continued returning to Hedges because of the drinks (martini with a side-car, anyone?!) and the location. Hedges has THE BEST front row seat to the sunset in the summer. And it’s a shame there are not more waterfront restaurants in the ROC-metro area. But this was likely our last visit to Hedges. The food quality is sub-par, menu is outdated and basic and their prices…please. This is not fine dining. $80 for a KC Strip? At Hedges? Nope. We arrived :45/min before our reservation with a goal of enjoying a cocktail on the lawn. We never got that cocktail. We were never acknowledged while standing at the bar (and we both had money in hand…just incase the staff was confused as to why we were there), nor able to order a drink for 35/minutes! Two very slow bartenders and one service bartender were behind the bar. Why so inefficient and slow? For one; they still hand write drink slips for accountability and put them in a drawer. They use a cell phone calculator to total your order and figure tax. And then run to a CC machine or cash drawer. No eye contact. No “I’m sorry we’re short handed - we’ll be right with you”. Nothing. No drink on the lawn for us that night. And we were not the only people with the same experience. Others also vented their frustration with me - and they had been waiting longer!!! We gave up on the drink, abandoned our spots at the bar and sat at our table. I let our server know how long we’d waited at the bar (and gave up) and supposedly a bartender called in sick. When our drink was made wrong - a new excuse; a new bartender. Our food was mediocre at best. The water server spilled water all over the table at every fill with no clean up. Our dishes were cleared and taken from us while we were still chewing, had our utensils in our hands and plates were far from empty. Yes, we could’ve intercepted the clearing of plates but at this point - we were so annoyed we all wanted to leave. ASAP. And we did. Sorry Hedges. We know you have a following and the corner on waterfront restaurant real estate. But you need to step up your game. If I’m going to spend this sort of money for dinner and drinks - I’m going elsewhere.
My son took me there the weekend after Mother's Day for dinner with my husband as well. The view was gorgeous overlooking the lake. Atmosphere was ok and service was great. The lobster bisque was good. My husband had the prime rib which was excellent. However my son and I got the surf and turf. The steak we presumed was to be a filet mignon, but it was not, likely a sirloin. Wasn't that great. The lobster was quite large, but tough and tasteless. Then we got the bill. Note to self, if it says market price, ask the price first. We love fine dining restaurants, but this was by far and above the most expensive experience we have ever had without at least some good food to go with it. I had gotten a glass of one of my favorite wines. One glass cost more than one entire bottle. Likely we won't be back.
I had my baby shower at hedges and honestly I was expecting more. My biggest issue was with the waitresses that saw to my party. I had told hedges that my shower was going to go until 8:30 at night and around 8:00 a waitresses started to clean up all of the tables when my guests had not even left yet. People still had purses on the tables. It caused my shower to end early because everyone thought we were getting kicked out. And since they started to clean up before anybody was ready, they started to throw out the decorations I had brought and was going to save for my baby girl's first birthday party. They never checked with us to see if we were ready for them to clean up and I felt that was really rude. We later found out that the sooner the waitresses clean up the sooner they can leave. I totally understand wanting to get home as soon as you can after your shift is over but not at the expense of my baby shower. Another thing was when they passed out cake I didn't even get any because I was opening gifts at the time and when we asked for the rest of the cake that we brought, since we only had about 20 guests and the cake served 48, they said it was all gone. Obviously the waitresses and the cooks ate the rest of my cake in the back and if they had asked if the staff could each have a piece we would have said it was okay but it really bothers me still to this day because that felt really disrespectful. The feedback from my guests had said that the food was cold. Thad the owner was amazing to work with and I have nothing but gratitude for him but it's really disappointing since I feel like his staff kind of ruined the night for me and let him down. I had had my rehearsal dinner at hedges 2 years prior which went very well and was why I was so excited to do business with hedges again, however, this last time left a really bad taste in my mouth and unfortunately I probably wouldn't use their private party room again.
Food was terrible. Last time I have been there was 8 years ago for dinner, thought to give it another try…. Would never eat there again but drinks were great & the view is amazing. That’s the saving grace for this place. We both felt nauseous after the meal, grouper dinner, fish tasted like it was frozen since the ice age & was nothing like a grouper you expect, thin fillet with black, stringy marbling that tasted like old soggy oil, it was gross. Risotto felt like 50/50 butter & heavy cream with artificially flavored truffle oil drizzle. Bunched up steamed broccoli with brown spots on stems that looked like from a school lunch. I don’t think it’s the cooks but the ingredients they are dealt to work with just the lowest grade quality & not the freshest. It’s a shame as it’s a such a pretty spot.
Absolutely rude, and not friendly atmosphere coming from Thad Swift. Will never go there again, and so will not any family member!
If you are reading this to see if this restaurant is for you, let me save you the trouble and tell you it's not, walk away. The food is over priced, the service is unprofessional and rude. As well as being thieves. If you pay a cash tip they will add another tip onto a reprinted receipt and hope you don't notice. WE noticed. And if they feel they don't get the tip they deserve they will stalk you in social media. HA. Gimme a break. You have a nice waterfront area and that's about it. BYE
We have been to Hedges many times and enjoyed it immensely. Last Saturday, the night before Mother’s Day, we went for dinner and it was terrible. Ordered meat rare, it came well done. My husband ordered the large prime rib cut which was mostly fat. Our drinks were terrible. I like a strong drink but these were so strong we couldn’t drink. Our waitress was extremely unattentive. Never checked to see how our dinners were or if we wanted/needed anything. She basically disappeared. We would’ve ordered dessert it but it took so long to get menu we decided to forget it. We spent almost $300 not including tip for food and service that was unacceptable. It will be a long time before we go back, if ever.
WORST VENUE EVER – AVOID AT ALL COSTS This place was a nightmare from start to finish. We were promised Thursday 4PM access to set up for our wedding, only to get a last-minute call at 1PM saying we couldn’t come in until Friday. Totally unprofessional. We were also told we could use their tables and chairs—then staff came and literally removed them after we set them up. On top of that, complete strangers were allowed to walk into our wedding and eat food that we paid for. The owners clearly don’t care about their customers or their events. Save your money, time, and sanity. Do not book your wedding or any event here.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE – DO NOT BOOK HERE This venue completely ruined what should have been a special day. First, we were lied to—told we could begin setup Thursday at 4PM, only to get a call Thursday at 1PM saying we couldn’t set up until Friday. Then, we were told tables and chairs would be available, only for staff to remove them after we had set them up. It gets worse: we booked and paid for a wedding of 50+ guests, yet the owners allowed random people to wander into the wedding and eat food purchased by our party. Absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. The owners are dishonest, disorganized, and disrespectful. Save yourself the stress—DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE.
One of the most disappointing dining experiences I have had in a long time. We went there for Mother's Day. I asked for a specific table in a section we preferred and was told it was unavailable, which I assumed was because it was such a busy day. They squeezed us into a corner where I could see the table I wanted sitting unoccupied the entire time we were there. We were one of the first people there for that sitting. The people in the next table came after us and they had their meal and take-home packages on the table before we even had our meal delivered. I ordered the prime rib done medium-well. I received a piece of meat that I had trouble even identifying as prime rib. It was so bad that I wouldn't even take it home for sandwiches. The service was incredibly slow and the food not worth having.
Extremely pretentious owner, very money hungry. The prices are outrageous especially if you want drinks, just forget about it. They charge you double the price if you want a double so $30 a drink no thanks…. Ate here on a few occasions and have seen him berate his staff. Food is mediocre at best coming from “fine dining”. The aura of the restaurant is dark, not a happy place to dine. Staff was very friendly but the owner hovers about drinking throughout the night. Waste of money, won’t be coming again
We took my mom for her birthday tonight as we wanted to celebrate with a more upscale dinner. We haven't been to Hedges in many years, but had fond memories of past visits and that it had great food. Unfortunately, it seems that standard has drastically changed. The french onion soup was good and had a tasty broth, however the cheese was fairly burnt on top. Two of us ordered the $50 Filet Mignon and we couldn't get past two bites of it. The flavor was similar to the smell of an elephants cage at the zoo. It was a poor cut of beef and definitely not the prime cut that the menus states it is. My mom and brother both ordered the Surf and Turf that cost over $130 each. Her filet was gray and not edible and he stated that his had a very bad flavor and left it on the plate. The lobster was tasteless and also not up to the price they are charging for market value. My husband's Prime Rib was the only meal that was actually enjoyed. The waitress did come over just after delivery to ask how everything was, but we hadn't tried it yet and were still cutting so we weren't able to tell her it wasn't good. We did not see her for the rest of the meal. When the busser came over to clear out plates, we let her know that we didn't want to keep the uneaten food and that they should let the chef know to check the meat as it may be spoiled. The waitress came back at the end to ask if we wanted dessert, and we did let her know that the chef should make a steak to try themselves because there may be something wrong. She was very apologetic and said we should have let her know sooner, however we also thought it would look like we were just trying to get free meals and we didn't want it to appear that way since 4 of the 6 of us had the steak. We did not request anything off of the bill and they didn't offer, so we paid our over $500 bill + tip and know this is a place we won't go back to. Very disappointing for her birthday and definitely wish we had picked another place. Atmosphere could also use an update as it is very dated inside. I'm sure the view in the summer is gorgeous, but not worth the hefty price tag for bad food.
