I was a little hesitated when I made a reservation because of those mixed reviews here. It turned out this place will be one of my favorites in NYC. The best seating is the bar. You can see chefs are enjoying cooking and you will enjoy their food and their positive vibes. I love it. Foods are exceptional and amazing. You have to try this place. It got a star from Michelin guide this year. It can be a reason for you to give it a try.
Truly exceptional and worthy of the accolades. We sat at the bar and the service was perfectly paced with the chef checking in and telling us about how the dishes came together. We loved everything we tried, but the standout was calamari stuffed with grouper kabob. The flavors and textures were totally unique and memorable.
Wow, it's rare to find a place where you can say they make the "best" version of something, but Shmone makes the best Swordfish Steak Milanese I've ever had. It was juicy and tender and full of flavor. Very different and worth ordering if it's on the menu! Another great dish is the Beef Short Rib. While you would expect it to be tender, it also has a ton of flavors on the crust and has a great "bark" just like a properly BBQ'd short bib. Another great dish is the mussels which are smoked instead of being steamed. You can taste the smokiness and again, full of flavor . Finally, you must order their staple, the Jerusalem bagel and pair it with the Hamachi sashimi. The bagel is oven fresh and chewy as any good bagel should be, and paired with the salty sashimi makes a great dish. All my choices were recommended by the waiter so it goes without saying that it's worth listening to them! Finally, if possible, get a seat at the bar facing the kitchen where all the action happens. The tables are kinda dreary and don't compare to the bar seat.
The food was fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The Hamachi Sashimi was out of this world! The Red Beet was just unbelievably to die for! What an incredible chicken liver cigar and eggplant steak! The Mackerel with crispy skin was perfectly seasoned and cooked! The A5 Wagyu Striploin was so satisfyingly delicious! And the Panna Cotta was light and fresh and just heavenly! The whole staff led by Chef Nadav Greenberg was so amazing! Our server Tamir showed one simple principle in his mind: treat others the way you would like to be treated; we were happy and our experience went so smoothly! The vibe was just inexplicably impressive!
We had an amazing meal: fresh, inventive and consistently good food. Everything was exquisite, even the seemingly “boring” milk and cookies at the end. This is a fun place. The space is small and intimate with an open kitchen and excellent service. Great for a date night.
If there were 8 days in a week, I would go to Shmone every single one of them. I always sit at the bar to watch the creations. Chefs and staff are super friendly and know their stuff. Great and unique food (as with the sister restaurant Malka) and I never feel rushed. So yes, I am a fan… visit 1x and you will be too.
I truly wish I could give a 15/10, and even then it wouldn’t cover how much I would recommend Shmone. We hosted a private event here, and the staff, the food, the facility, the coordinating - all of it was incredibly easy, flexible, and so client-focused. EVERY SINGLE DISH WAS INCREDIBLE. Every drink was delicious. Every interaction with their staff was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. They are warm, welcoming, and THEY KNOW THEIR FOOD. Every dish was flavorful, interesting, different, and yet so incredibly delicious. whether a date night, family in town, a private event, or just visiting town, I COULD NOT RECOMMEND SHMONE MORE!!!
We have come here twice, and the second time we came we wondered why we hadn’t come more frequently before. Everything is fantastic here, every single dish we’ve ordered has been phenomenal. The vibes are great - both times we’ve been seated at the counter which is awesome as you see the full kitchen. The bluefin tuna is incredible, a must have.
SHMONÉ NY. A True Culinary Experience, Not Just a Meal What an incredible night! My friend told me SHMONÉ was amazing, so we decided to walk in and grab two seats at the bar. Best decision ever. From the moment we sat down, the staff made us feel like regulars. Everyone was super friendly, professional and clearly passionate about what they do. The open kitchen setup is something special, it feels like you’re part of the show. The chef himself came over to chat with us, explained the specials and even served a few dishes directly from the kitchen to the bar. You can see and taste the creativity and care that goes into every plate. We had several small plates, each one beautifully presented and full of flavor. The fig salad was refreshing and perfectly balanced, the meat skewer was juicy and smoky, and the short rib absolutely unreal, melt- n your mouth good. Every dish looked like a piece of art. The atmosphere is cozy, elegant and energetic the kind of spot where you lose track of time and just enjoy great food, drinks, and conversation. Must-try: The short rib and the chef’s seasonal specials. Pro tip: Sit at the bar if you can — you’ll get the full SHMONÉ experience. A memorable dining experience from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Last night at SHMONÉ felt like one of those perfect New York nights you wish you could replay again and again. We walked in early, thinking we’d just grab a quick dinner… and then four hours later, we were still sitting at the bar, eating, laughing, drinking, and watching this wild kitchen ballet happening right in front of us. 🔥 We had front-row seats — chefs flying, pans sizzling, olive oil dripping like gold. You could feel the energy. Everyone’s working hard but smiling, throwing jokes around, pouring martinis, and making it all look effortless. 🥯 We started with that famous Jerusalem bagel — warm, fluffy, olive oil and za’atar dripping off the edges — honestly, I could’ve stopped right there and called it a night. But then came the tuna, so fresh it practically winked at us, and the octopus, smoky and soft with those beans… unreal. 😋 The sweetbreads hit the table next — I don’t even know how to explain it — crispy, tangy, creamy, somehow a salad but not really a salad. The pistachio pesto pasta was so good we stopped talking for five minutes. 🥩 And then the 76-layer Wagyu. Oh my God. The waiter brought us challah after and said, “you’ll need this to soak up the juice,” and he was absolutely right — we cleaned that plate like it was the last supper. 🍷 Between bites and martinis, we kept saying, “just one more dish,” but we didn’t want to leave. Everything was shareable, everything was perfect, and every bite was better than the last. Must-haves: 🥩 Beef short rib ❤️ Sweetbreads 🐙 Octopus 🐟 Tuna 🥯 Jerusalem bagel If I could move in and sit at that bar every night, I would. This isn’t just dinner — it’s a whole New York moment. SHMONÉ, you got me. I’m hooked.
Five stars — without question. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with great music that sets the mood just right. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready yet, but the host was incredibly kind and suggested we wait at the wine bar next door. We were warmly welcomed there, had a lovely drink, and honestly didn’t mind the wait at all. Our server Anya was absolutely fantastic — knowledgeable, attentive, and full of warmth. She could tell us about every dish and drink in detail and made the whole evening feel special. The open kitchen is beautiful to look at, and it’s genuinely fun to watch the chefs work — the whole team is impressive. As for the food: everything was spot on. Our favorites were the tuna, grilled vegetables, beef rib, sweetbreads, and the lamb kebab. All were must-tries. Shmone isn’t flashy or over-the-top — it’s the kind of place you want to keep coming back to. I only wish I’d discovered it sooner. Already planning my next visit.
Amazing addition to the neighborhood and overall michelin dining scene in manhattan, the servers and chefs are very welcoming, and the drinks are well done and the food is excellent. I really appreciate that they don't take themselves too seriously while simultaneously putting out amazing food.
The place was so warm and cozy and packed with good vibes. The waiters were kind and helpful choosing our wine and dine, the open kitchen is hypnotizing, with the most professional chefs and freshest ingredients. We had an amazing meal and definitely come back as soon as possible!
Had a great meal and overall experience here on the early side of a Saturday night. We sat at the bar, so had the opportunity to watch the kitchen throughout our entire meal. The waitstaff was attentive - began by highlighting the choices on the menu and continued checking in throughout the whole night to make sure everything was meeting expectations. The food hit the spot and felt like home. I recommend the Jerusalem Bagel for every visit. The vegan mashed potatoes surprised me (in a good way) - wasn’t expecting how much I would enjoy an olive oil based potato with a unique tomato sauce on top. The veggies tasted great and were seasoned well. Would highly recommend the Lamb Roll if they have it during your visit. This was a great dinner spot, would dine with them again.
Food is good but not great. Service is good, not great. Atmosphere is good but tables are cramped. NYC is too competitive a market for this one to be this popular especially with these prices (a small - less than a side dish - of sauteed spinach and pea shoots for $23; come on).
This dinner was a mixed bag...I wanted to love every moment of the night, but a few things made that a little hard to do. The hostess was super sweet and welcoming, making us happy to be there. The waitress, on the other hand, was not very accommodating. When we sat down, it almost felt like we were in economy on an airplane...the feeling of being rushed never stopped. We barely had a chance to look at the menus before the waitress returned a minute later, asking us to order. We got our drinks, and then, within five minutes, the appetizers rolled out. The Jerusalem bagel was perfect. The toro was a fresh and delicious mix of flavors. The eggplant was my favorite of the night, perfectly charred and flavorful. We barely had the plates for ten minutes when someone came to take them...even though food remained on all the plates, it was awkward, but we had to ask them to let us finish. We got the short rib, perfectly cooked melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness, smaller than expected size. The spinach rigatoni was unique and fulfilling. The schnitzel swordfish was excellent. Overall, the mix of food all worked well together, and we felt happily full. We ordered the cheesecake and the raspberry tart for dessert; both were delicious, but we wouldn't get them again. The evening left a lot to be desired for a restaurant as in demand and a being awarded a Michelin star. Yes, the food is wonderful, but from a restaurant of Michelin's caliber, the experience from start to finish should feel outstanding.
I had high expectations for Shmone, especially given its recognition by the Michelin Guide, but unfortunately the experience didn’t live up to the hype. While the atmosphere was lively and the open kitchen concept is a nice touch, the food was disappointing—overpowered by salt and spices, lacking balance and nuance. Service also felt inattentive at times, which affected the overall experience. It wasn’t a terrible evening, but for the price point, I expected something more refined, thoughtful, and consistent.
I chose Shmone for a catch-up dinner with my friend — we both enjoy discovering new places and tasting something special. It turned out that many of our acquaintances know the owner and love coming here, which made us even more curious. We were recommended several dishes, one of which was on the current seasonal menu. Before our visit, we read up on the place and were inspired by the Michelin Guide review and the fact that the restaurant has one star. The Google rating was just 4.2, but we didn’t pay much attention to that. Spoiler: we probably should have — many of the comments turned out to be true. I arrived about 15 minutes early. Since the restaurant is quite small and they were having an internal meeting, I was asked to wait next door at a wine bar. As I don’t drink wine, I decided to take a short walk instead. While I understand the logistical reasons behind it, I believe a guest could have been seated already — or at the very least, offered a glass of water. The Service: There seemed to be a lot of them — constantly buzzing around like fruit flies, which created a sense of chaos. Unfortunately, this didn’t translate into attentive or thoughtful service. Dishes weren’t introduced, plates were only changed upon request, and staff tried to take away half-eaten food simply because the next course was ready. They either missed empty glasses entirely or hovered too obviously. At one point, the chef told to the guests at the next table, that she drinks wine almost daily at work. Some earlier reviewers mentioned that the team seems to be drinking on the job — and frankly, it does show. That’s rarely a good sign. The Food: Ideally, this section should have come first — but there’s not much to say. When we asked for recommendations, almost 90% of the menu was suggested, which felt a bit excessive. We picked a few dishes, but when we left the restaurant, we realized we couldn’t remember a single one. Nothing stood out as particularly flavorful or interesting. Most items were overly salted — like the tuna, for example. One salad, described on the menu as containing “whatever the chef found at the market,” turned out to be cherries, a mountain of garlic, and tarragon. The garlic was overpowering, making it hard to taste anything afterward. We ordered wine just to reset our palates. The shrimp were okay, and the sauce came with some bread — which, frankly, was the tastiest part of the meal. That’s always telling. The kebab? You could get a much better version at Miznon for a third of the price. Over-seasoned, overly garlicky —and this is coming from a die-hard garlic fan. As for dessert: not bad, but nothing memorable. The tres leches was certainly better than everything that came before it, but that’s not saying much. There were no complex techniques or intriguing ingredients in any of the dishes—nothing that would typically justify a Michelin star. The prices felt steep for the quality of the ingredients and execution. In conclusion, perhaps things have changed with the arrival of a new chef. We’ll see what happens to the star at the next review cycle. For now, I wouldn’t recommend this place to any of my friends—and I honestly don’t see a reason to return.
I was really looking forward to taking my wife here for a special occasion, and while the atmosphere and service was good, the presentation and food fell short. We still had a nice meal, but I would have expected more from a Michelin star restaurant. It felt like an Instagram vs reality moment, and we won't be planning to go back, unfortunately.
