The Ditch on 40 is a popular spot known for its green chili-inspired dishes, especially the Ditch Burger. Customers rave about the food, friendly service, and eclectic, charming atmosphere. Some find the margaritas overpriced and the green chili not spicy enough.

Tip: Try the Ditch Burger with green chiles, and enjoy the upstairs patio for good views. Be mindful of the green chili's spice level if you're sensitive to heat.

Great burger and great marg. That's the review.
I thought I reviewed this joint last year but I guess not. I got the veggie burrito that I remember enjoying. This year I went for the veggie nachos. The bartender kindly informed me that the green chili sauce had pork and offered to sub with guac. A guy from the kitchen came up and asked how I wanted it, side or on the dish. He also offered to add cheese. I really appreciate the considerate service. First class. While at the bar I saw the bartenders making some really nice looking margs. I'm pretty sure their margaritas are a popular item there. This is a very popular place. Depending on when you arrive you might have to wait.
We had a great time here! Fantastic spot for locals and tourists alike but be careful of their green chili! I cannot handle spicy of any kind but my partner said it was perfectly fine. Almost all their dishes have their special green chilis in it but you can ask to have it without. The food is great, made in their kitchen NOT fast food and everyone is really fun and friendly. We watched the awesome bartender make FOURTEEN margaritas. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed this place after a great day of skiing. Mot menu items have Hatch Chili's in their dish which we really liked.
Got the ditch burger. Delicious. Came out hot, patties were cooked perfectly. The burger was juicy and the bacon with a crispy chile Reno was a nice touch. The fries for the loaded fries could have been cooked slightly longer but would absolutely get again. Also got the chicken cheesesteak which was top notch. Would visit again. Johnny was our bartender. 10/10
Perfect if you’re looking for a hole-in-the-wall burger joint with New Mexico flare. The Ditch Burger is perfect as is (with green chiles) and the Margarita is also a hit, especially after a long day on the mountain. Nothing fancy, but food is great and staff are awesome and was recommended to us by multiple locals.
What an experience! We loved everything about this meal. We were visiting friends who took us for “burgers” and margaritas. I’ve never had a burger like this or for that matter a margarita like this. The service was quick and personable. The food came quick and it was oh so delicious. We WILL be back next time we’re in Winter Park. Shout out to Trevor behind the bar!!!
My husband and I love to stop here whenever we are in Winter Park. The food is great! It is a scratch kitchen and they genuinely make the effort to make delicious food. They have a great second story patio. We are always excited to come back to try out something else delicious on the menu. Thank you to the Ditch for always making awesome food available to all who come through their doors! Check this place out for a great meal!
Awesome place. We go once or twice a year. Our experience is always top notch, however the only note was waiting to pay for 15-20 minutes, server apologized and I still tipped because it was a genuine mistake. Now for the good parts. We always try their good beers on tap and in the cab or bottle, the food came out hot and delicious within 10-15 minutes, we beat the rush so not sure how fair that is but the dudes running food were on it. They are very attentive waiter wise unless it gets busy then you gotta kinda ask when necessary it seems. Got shrimp tacos, their version of the Philly and the kids quesadilla. It was all delicious and amazing and we will absolutely be back. Giving the service a low star only for the mistake of missing our tab when we had a baby and we were one of the first tables before the rush. Completely understandable but we were trying to free up a table for more restaurant goers and get our baby to bed. Again. We will be back, and they do have high chairs for your kids so that was awesome. Thank you for the experience and see you next time.
Visit here! Great food options and tasty. Great atmosphere. Good beer selection. Tables could rotate quickly but often a line to get in. Fun place to go with friends and family. Lots of TVs with sports to watch.
Great food with a generous amount of hatch chiles! I enjoyed my ditch burger which was the perfect size with a single patty, and salty sweet potato fries to bring it all together. Good beer selection and a decent margarita! Vibe is very divey and I could see it getting loud and crowded on weekends or right after the winter park lifts close.
Great joint with lots of local character, and the food was incredible! While they have a kids menu, this is a location for adults. Some menu items have language our kids aren't ready for which will be stated by the food server. Additionally there is crude artistry on the dollar bills stapled to the walls. Not a recommendation for kids, but a must visit for adults.
My friend recommend us this restaurant because I love green chili. This is the first time I have green chili in my hamburger. Interesting. We ordered ditch burger and fish taco. Both tasted great. And a beer. Total was $34 plus tip. The restaurant has interesting decorations. Signs, licence plates and stickers everywhere. I like that they turned on funny videos on YouTube on their TV. Make my waiting time felt not so long. Restrooms are in acceptable level of cleanliness. Good stop for food on route 40.
Walked in here because the place seemed casual and I was in a casual sort of mood. Turns out this place makes casual seem formal. Attired in what could probably be deemed tacky, The Ditch was covered for n wall to wall puns, sports paraphernalia, liquor/beer motifs and license plates. Lots and lots of license plates. The guy who greeted me was cool and I sat at the bar where I watched most of the staff take shots between everything else. Make a drink, take a shot. Deliver food, take a shot. Refill water, ... well, you get the picture. I was sweet-talked into the blackened tilapia fish tacos which were okay, but not great. And a six dollar can of beer. Yes, $6 for a single can on beer. The restaurant itself was more like hanging out in your friend's basement than a place to go out and most of the staff were extremely friendly. A couple of seemed perturbed i was there at all, but in all fairness those were the ones doing shots. And, although they had signs telling us to wait to be seated no one seemed interested in actually seating anyone. A lot of people were visibly annoyed. And the much lauded fish tacos? Meh. The best thing about them was the sauce that came on them.
The name tells the story. Not bad but not great pub cuisine. They suggested the burger. We had the burrito and it was so so. The red sauce was quite good. It’s pub grub and beer.
We had great service! Wonderful view of the mountains from the front upstairs deck outside!! The nachos were absolutely delicious, very generous serving at a very reasonable price! The only negative was the incredibly expensive mediocre house margaritas at $15 each!!! Those were an absolute rip off!!! That's why I only rated this place 3 stars instead of 5.
We stopped here because we were looking for something to hold us over until supper time - there were three of us, so we thought about getting two things to share but only ended up getting the loaded fries because my sister had RAVED about them. The fries were really underwhelming. They had no real flavor, and the rest of the menu looked just as underwhelming. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice, but I wouldn't go again.
Go for a green chili burger-not bad. The house margaritas were awesome. However if you’re from New Mexico you will not enjoy the green or red chili sauce. The green chili barley resembles green chili and is more creamy with no spice. The red chili is way too sweet.
