Buffet 11 -2 This is the best Mexican buffet! They offer carne en su jugo, steak picado, menudo, enchiladas, Chilaquiles, arroz, frijol, ceviche, tostadas, chicken soup, chicken fajitas, chicharron en salsa verde, steamed veggies, carne en chile colorado is my favorite & other dishes. Wonderful Mexican Restaurant in Alhambra. For lunch they have an all you can eat buffet with lots to choose from. But if you go there, the must have dish is an order of their Table-Made Guacamole. Watching it being made right in front of you at the table, you see how fresh all the ingredients are, plus you can pick your level of spiciness.
The buffet is amazing. They have a lot to choose from. The food is delicious. Great customer service.
Great food. Very cool building inside and outside. Nice people working there. I got spinach Enchiladas and requested some grilled onions. It was a lot of food but not too much which is good because I hate wasting food. The beans were whole pinto beans and were really good. The presentation was good. The enchiladas were very very good.
We had a large party on patio. And we had at least 2 servers and a bus boy. Attending to our drink orders and picking up our plates. My brother had a buffet and we got our plates only. The servers were excellent. The bus boy was so on top of things my sister got up to chat. I watched him take away her plate. But he was so fast. Lol Great service though.
Definitely Delicious! All food is homemade. Buffet is amazing! Very flavorful authentic food, which is hard to find, unlike most other buffet's which others use so much can food or undercook the food. This place has all food cooked to absolute perfection, place is clean, plenty of outdoor shaded seating. Coffee is great and hot! Plenty of vegetarian, meat and ceviche for pescatarian. Fried banana, menudo, jello, salad extras are amazing. Buffet is 11am to 2pm, come early or for lunch. The service is so sweet and courteous. My husband asked for a pitcher of water due to thirst, they brought out an ice glass pitcher, how amazing is that! Plenty of parking in front and back. Thank you Guys so much, that Brunch was delicious and the bomb dot com!!! Yummers I will be coming back!
Friendly atmosphere, greeted with smiles as I was walking in Overall great service Food was also very good I personally loved the Menudo had a good spicy taste, though some might find it too spicy Nice selection of traditional Mexican food . It was Sunday brunch $35 pp Well worth it
Fun Mexican restaurant which offers coverage of the Dodgers on the big screens! Great discounted margueritas before 6 pm -- also on Cinco de Mayo, and National Marguerita Day. Love their chicken soft tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and for dessert I love their fried ice cream and churros with ice cream and hot chocolate. Taco Tuesdays are a great deal
Great food and friendly service. We arrived at the opening hour and witnessed something that we had never seen in any other restaurant and that was that the servers brought out sizzling plates with onions, garlic and jalapenos to fill the restaurant with a more appealing aroma. The caldo de res was fresh, hot, with lots of perfectly cooked vegetables, lots of chunks of beef and a bone.
This is the mexican restaurant which isn't too Americanized yet great enough for non-mexican to enjoy. Our family loved it. Nothing too spicy and greasy. Portion is big. It was a little hard to look at the menu since we don't understand Spanish. However, everything we picked was all great. Will definitely come back again.
Walked in and immediately felt like family. Every single staff welcomed greeted us. We came for the buffet style brunch. They had so many options. The chilaquiles and pozole were spicy but delicious. Never had green mole it was so good. The best thing was the enchiladas they were so cheesy. They had so many options but didn't get to try everything. But everything I tried was delicious. Thank you to the staff for being attentive and really getting to know you. This place is a MUST when in LA. BRUNCH is 11am to 2pm
I love Chonito’s! Every time I’m in L.A. I make a point to stop in and enjoy the best table side guacamole ever. And their margaritas are all excellent ( they have a lot of choices). My favorite entree is Chile Relleno. The service is always excellent!
Food was outstanding. I am Mexican and it's very hard to find real, good Mexican food. This restaurant has an amazing variety of dishes at an affordable price. 2 👍

Their lunch buffet is amazing! Authentic flavors, wide variety of food, and always fresh. I plan my work trips to be near here at lunch time just to get the buffet.
CHONITOS is one of my FAVORITE restaurants that serves THE BEST MICHELADA!! The food is delicious and the BEAN DIP with Chips is my FAVORITE (has a lil kick to it).Today 5/8/21 I had lunch and we ordered the “Flight of Margaritas”, because the presentation is beautiful and colorful, so I wanted to try it for the first time. Dear Management, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED that our drinks was “watered down” and thought, “how can that be?!!” Then I see on your IG, you have glasses served and ready to go…so THAT explains why it’s “watered down” because you have ICE in the drinks melting. Ironically, I told my friend, next time we’ll order without the ice, but now this j see this, I’m a bit disappointed. I feel like I should have complained or just politely said, this isn’t up to satisfaction. So my suggestion, either ask, “No Ice or bring to managements attention.” Other than that, the food and Michelada is good. I’ll be there in a few weeks and hope to have a better experience. Oh and ask for VICTOR!! He’s an excellent server.
The food was not hot when I received it from the buffet. However, the service was good. I disagreed with the gratuity that was automatically added to the bill. A few days prior, I had called to inquire about the price, and I was informed it was thirty dollars per person. Yet, at the restaurant, I was charged thirty-five dollars. I spoke with the manager, who only apologized, stating they have been trying to update the pricing information.
I'm not crazy about overhead music constantly playing tvs blinking on and off picture. We were not warned about mocaj was chiloso 😭🔥 GUACAMOLE 🥑 WAS GREAT. FLAUTAS 👍 CIVICHE 👎. MARGARITA 👎 HORRIBLE
Good food and atmosphere but the service is slow
Not bad for a cheap lunch buffet. They would always rotate and add fresh food to the buffet so that the food do not go stale. Fairly flavorful and the meats were over all pretty tender. My only complaint was the chicken is a little overcooked and a bit dry. The sauces/salsa were good and the service is excellent. You also have the option to order entrees that are not part of the buffet. They have quite a bit of options on their menu.
A great addition of authentic Mexican cuisine to the Alhambra area. This non-franchise, mom and pop restaurant offer daily and weekend buffet at an affordable price. Service is quick and friendly and the seating area consists of both booth seating and non-booth. Free parking available in the front, side and rear with multiple entrances and exits.
First time visiting Chonitos, probably not the last! The food was really good for us. I had a carne asada burrito, and my girlfriend tried their sopes (one chicken, one steak). We also had a watermelon agua fresca that was SO refreshing, and a horchata that was incredibly flavorful and rich (to me, it tastes like a mouthful of Christmas)! The burrito was really good - the carne asada wasn’t too fatty, and the flavor was beautiful! It comes with rice and beans on the plate - the melted cheese they use on the beans is freaking great! So tasty! My girlfriend enjoyed her sopes and said they were very good as well. Both of us were content with our plates - the portions are big, so we had leftovers the next day for brunch! The chips and salsa with bean dip served when you arrive; let’s talk about this. Actually, the promise of bean dip was what sold us on trying Chonitos to begin with - bean dip is a huge bonus in our opinion, so that sealed the deal! Unfortunately, the bean dip is very spicy - so much so, that my girlfriend couldn’t eat it, which was really disappointing. I like spicy and I’m here to tell you - the bean dip is definitely too intense for casual diners, in my opinion. It needs to be toned down a notch. The salsa is decent - nothing incredible, and again, a touch too spicy for folks to truly enjoy. My mouth was definitely burning as I ate both - and my girlfriend had to sit it out and watch me eat as she sat there hungry. No bueno. And I’m not sure if it was our server or the restaurant’s practice - but the amount of salsa/bean dip they bring is SO little, after a few chips, I had to ask for more of each - the serving bowls are small, and they were each filled only half way! This comes across as the restaurant being super cheap, whether they intend to or not. We had to ask our server multiple times to bring more chips and dips - the restaurant was not busy at all, and so that was unfortunate. The best is when you’re brought more chips, etc. without even having to ask; this was definitely not that. Our server was nice - very friendly, even. We just had to keep asking for things when we were one of her only tables. The rest of the staff was very nice, too - so no complaints about the team except for the spotty service we had. The food took a long time to arrive. Too long, honestly. We weren’t in a rush - but if we had been, this would have been an issue. The restaurant was not busy - it felt like we were waiting at least 20 minutes for the plates, which is just a hair too long when you’re sitting there hungry (and unable to enjoy the chips/dips because everything is too spicy). The restaurant has a loud sound system. Half of the interior is a bar space and the music is definitely louder there. The more formal dining area is a bit more quiet but the music is still just a touch too loud - or at least it was for an early afternoon meal, in our opinion. 8pm on a Saturday, we’d totally understand! But it was like 2pm and not very busy - the music should have been set to a more appropriate volume. It wasn’t HORRIBLE - but it was a bit annoying. We will definitely be open to trying Chonitos again! It’s hard to judge based on one visit - the food was very tasty overall, and the service WAS nice, albeit slow. So maybe these things change with a different day and server. We shall see! It’s not super close to home - it’s about a 20-25 minute drive, so it’s not quite a neighborhood spot or impulse choice for us. But we agreed we definitely will return and try this place again - you can definitely do a lot worse when it comes to Mexican food, so give them a try and enjoy!
We came tonight for a marching band fundraiser. There is a very large selection and the portions are very good for the price. They also have a happy hour menu that has good sized portions. The menudo was a bit spicier than I expected. The Jamaica was very good, not too sweet and a good size (see the photo). They also have a few large screens for sports fans.
Updated review: Came to try the weekday lunch buffet. It was pretty good with a decent variety of dishes. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday. The buffet doesn’t include soda or other drinks, just water. It also doesn’t include chips and salsa, but if you ask they may bring some to you. The salsa was bland but the bean dip was good. *********** I'll admit that I need to try this place again to see if it deserves a higher rating. Only been here once so far. The service was quick, the food could have been a little better. It was good but what I ordered I won't order again. Mainly because I didn't like it but also because I want to try something else. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and there were too many onions in the enchilada. Rice and beans were ok. We had them make a shrimp quesadilla and my daughter really liked it. I thought it was too salty. The salsa and bean dip are good.
Chonitos Mexican Restaurant buffet is definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area. I tried a little of everything and was really impressed, especially with the tacos, the homemade crunchy tostadas, and the carne en su jugo. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and came out nice and hot. There was a great variety of condiments to customize your plate, which I appreciated. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and overall a very enjoyable experience. I’d happily come back again.
this place is pretty decent, very good service nice scenery too but the only thing that ticked me off was how 2 plates of food cost 90$, and there wasn't that much of a variety for the buffet section.

We arrived around 4, and it was going for the trendy look and vibe and full of patrons. As we were seated, not many people came. We were there until 7 pm. Service was slow. I was told they were short staff. The food was ok. Food was drowning in sauce that took away from the actual flavor of the food. Others in my party stated their food was bland. The staff was pleasant, just slow with service. I might give them another try. Parking is somewhat difficult as it is located on a busy/main street and residential area.
Service was the worst. Saw the server once, no visits to offer straws, or more drinks. Had to get my own straw and she didn't listen when I asked for water. So had to wait almost until the end. Host quickly sat us so that was a plus, and food was good. But they need work on their service. Too bad for la Chica we tip well even if buffet ask the omelet man my husband always tips them too. If I can give a zero on this chic I would.
The food is often good, and the spicy bean dip served with the chips is a favorite. But the service is inefficient and unkind. Our last visit we arrived 15 minutes before happy hour ended. They gave us a happy hour menu to look over. When they brought our complimentary chips, we tried to order but they would not accept it. Server finally came back 3 minutes after happy hour ended, took the happy hour menu away from us, and then refused to honor happy hour prices for drinks or appetizers. The wait time to order and to receive the food were unacceptably long to begin with, but seemed intentionally designed to deny us a chance to order from the happy hour menu at all. Will not be going back.
Well its almost excellent for my taste ... but , hot spicy doesnt mean good flavor.
We went for the lunch buffet. Had lots of options but food was average at best. Service was also okay. Kept on forgetting what we asked.
It was our second time there, first time I ordered a shrimp cocktail, it was ok. This time my friends wanted to return to gather for dinner and hang out. We tried to order guacamole with chips, however we were told they did not have it available, which was odd being a Mexican restaurant you would think they would have that readily available, also my friend was told “this is your last refill” lol as he was handed his soda, that was odd as well. I asked for a mangoniada virgin, in hopes of getting the Chile straw as they picture it but those weren’t available either, sorry I like my spicy stuff😄 My ceaser salad was good though, had to order light but all my friends plates looked awesome! They do need to upgrade the bathrooms as there is only one stall working and it was pretty gross in there. Parking is plenty and there’s also parking on the streets.
The food was good. It was an adequate restaurant but it had a "bar section" that was not what I am used to. It wasn't set up up to go with a group of friends or to do any real mingling. If you just want to hang out and eat, it's fine but leave the whole bar expectation at the door.
Beautiful outdoor seating, we had a big party so the patio was great for us. Staff was attentive and polite, good selection of food, just a few of them were over salted which I couldn't eat comfortably. Parking is not easy as they have such a small and packed lot so street parking it was! Also omelet station is only on Sundays which was a let down since we went Saturday for "brunch".
The food and drinks were good. Service was okay, but much to be desired. Most people are drawn to restaurants based on reviews and food presentation. With that said, the food tasted better than how it was presented. When I received the Chonitos Platter I literally forgot what I ordered. Everything was kind of piled one on top of the other so it basically looked like one large platter of nachos. Overall I would eat here again.
Stopped in for lunch while working in the area and opted for the buffet, which was the best value. The food and service were both decent—nothing spectacular, but hit the spot for a quick mid-day meal. The space has a nice 'modern cocina' feel, though the music was a bit loud for a lunch crowd. Overall, a solid, convenient stop if you’re nearby, but not necessarily a destination I’d go out of my way for.

Good service but I think the Sunday brunch was overpriced. Not a lot of food choices, no white bread and only red velvet dessert with churros. Not going again to this brunch.
Make sure you ask/inform the server about any allergies to food you have, because they will not ask. The chicken tortilla soup was loaded with red & green bell peppers & was too spicy. The Paloma drink had very little Cazadores if any at all.
Didn't care for the place too much. The service was alright. The food was alright. Had a bit of a wait. Not very comfortable setting. I felt it was a tad overpriced for the quality of what you were getting to be honest. Wasn't a fan. But I cannot say it was completely horrible. I think it's worth a try, just wasn't for me.
Will only come here to drink beer and watch the dodger game. Table side guac was so pricey for one avocado mashed up w some pico d Gallo. They literally spread it all over the dish to make it seem like a lot. So In my picture I gathered it up so you can understand what I’m talking about. I could pick it all up with a spoon. ALSO TO NOTE….. it is not made TABLE SIDE… it is made in the back and brought to you. Ordered a beer w a Tajín rim and squeezed lime juice only. The girl suggested something else, a beer with maggi juice….it was awful. Our waitress was amazing I will say but the food and drinks were bad. The aguachiles were raw, they had to be pressed in the juice to cook, it was literally served raw… seriously bad. And they also charge you if you ask for salsa…. Not EXTRA SALSA … but charge you per cup. It a mexican restaurant why are you charging for salsa?….I mean if it was a gourmet ADD ON ..ok. I also ordered a peach margarita and that was insanely sweet. Towards the end I ordered an horchata and that was super tasty.
The food is not as authentic as I expected. The presentation was supposed to highlight the dinner but our plates were chipped around the edges and some food was overseasoned while some was bland. We had a party of 10 and our waiter never came to check on us. We had to get up and ask for extra cutlery, napkins, chips and salsa. The drinks were so watered down its sad.
I saw them in instagram and decided to try it . Service was super slow and it was not even pack today Saturday . And I Oder the flight margaritas . Extremely sour . I just drink one and had my husband. Try the second one definitely I do not recommend the flight unless you like sour . They ended up taking out of my bill.i ended up going to the bathroom tho throw up .. now i feel sick
Although the food was good my order was not. I asked for chicken nachos and received beef. Even though they let me keep the wrong order the correct order looked under editable the chicken one looks like someone scraped it from some where else sorry 😞 but I could have returned it but what's the point so I decided to write a review since this was my first and last time coming here
The margaritas were the La Croix of flavor. The entire flight was watered down and faint of flavor as if they had been sitting out in the sun. Mango was the only good one. Also, the float was $30 for 5 four ounce pours. $6 for a four ounces of watered down margarita. You can get a great happy hour elsewhere. When we walked in the bartender said he was going to clear off the table so we could sit. The bartender cleared off the table but never came back. We waited. Someone else said we'd be seated. Then the third person said we'd be seated and we were finally sat. We promptly ordered our drinks but had to follow up on our waters because they were forgotten. The food was good but it came out at separate times which isn't a big deal but considering how things were going it really dampened the mood. We told them we would split the check. We put 2 debit cards in the plastic pocket of the card holder, one on top of the other. Only one card was charged as they "didn't see" the second one which somehow made its way under the receipt. Both cards were together so it was an obvious lie. They never brought napkins and never cleared our table so we couldn't sit and chat over our la Croix margaritas.
The meat tasted the worst I have ever had eaten in my life the food is over priced and they never refill my water

Don't ever take you and your kids to this establishment ever. The food was disgusting. It has no flavor. Looks can be very deceiving. Be careful. I also saw a little roach in the bathroom. You need…
We like the food and happy hour but the worst service. To place order, to ask for something else, to get bill. The absolute worst.

I'm sorry to say food and drinks are NOT GOOD 😐 food tastes like can food and the drinks good be better. IF YOU WANT A BEER AND SEE THE GAME NICE THATS ALL.
I would never go back on weekends I thought the buffet was 18.99 before 2pm but it's not I was charged $38 for 1 person before 2pm.
BEWARE CORKOACHES The food was good however the fact that another couple kept staring and we look up to realize there was a huge cockroach above us we literally got up and ran out of are seats we were waiting for a drink but asked for it to be removed as we just wanted to leave and pay the fact that the manager or no one offered to comp or discount anything is ludicrous
It has been a solid minute since I've had SUCH bad Mexican food. Mexican Husband and I ordered a pretty decent variety, including 2 different types of soup (Albondigas & Caldo de Res), tacos, tamales. The beef in the caldo was basically microwaved/overcooked 17hrs I couldn't even cut it up in small pieces bc it wasn't chewable. The vegetables were half raw in the "soups". Both soups were atrocious, and no beef flavor in the soup it was basically super oversalted water. Albondigas were not much better as the half raw vegetables and over salted broth ruined the passable meatballs 😔. Even the variety of tacos were bad, no flavor no seasoning, how can a Mexican restaurant mess up on 3 different types of tacos?? The Mexican rice was decent and I loved the refried bean dip that came with the really good tortilla chips. The tamales were passable but my husband reminded me that's probably bc it's not made in house. Everything made in house that we ordered was atrocious, not just not good. I feel sad bc we really wanted to find a new regular spot, unfortunately this wasn't it. TBH, any good reviews on this restaurant I don't believe came from those who have had REAL authentic Mexican or even good food. Don't waste money on a restaurant that doesn't even put effort in their tacos then charges high fees bc the atmosphere is trendy.
BE READY TO GET FULL WITH SODA AND CHIPS THE WAITING TIME HERE IS RIDICULOUS THEY NOT EVEN BUSY DEFF DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IF YOU HUNGRY WAITED 1hr 30 min 0 starts
Horrible service. It was almost empty and the waitress would not attend us she would walk around like if it were busy but the restaurant probably only had 10 customers including us 2
So I order chilaquiles. And this is what I got, nothing like the picture on the reviews, I also order some chips that they charged for the tiny bag, so I told the guy that I had placed an order of the chip and salsa and he still charged me an extra $3.00 . So in total I payed $17.00 for this. Not worth it . Never again will I go back. What happened to the chesse, onion and sour cream 🤔
This place is over hyped. We must have came at the wrong time because the buffet was not available and that's what we saw on tiktok that caught our attention. But we still decided to stay and give it a try. I flipped through the menu too many times and couldn't find anything that caught my attention so decided to go with a combo of enchilada and chile relleno. The enchilada cheese was not even melted, the tortilla was still hard and the chile relleno had a funny taste to it. When we arrived we were served chips and salsa, let me tell you the salsa bowl was not even filled half way. The chips also came with a bean dip that was the same size of the salsa bowl an not filled half way. If you want more salsa you have to pay $1.50 they have that on a sign on the table, if you want more chips I believe it was $3. I always ask for extra salsa when I go to restaurants to put on my rice and beans. And to consider that the salsa brought in the first place wasn't even halfway filled in that tiny salsa bowl🤦♀️. I asked for a guacamole as an appetizer, it looked fresh on the picture in the menu like the ones you get made in front of you, we ordered a small because he gave us an option for a small or large, so we went with small. They brought us guacamole in the same salsa bowl 😂. So small and the guacamole was the kind that you get served on the side when you usually order a plate at other restaurants and they give you rice beans a small amount of salad and like a scoop of guacamole. That's the guacamole we were charged for. Nothing special like on the menu that looked all fresh. The Jamaica was completely watered down and tasted like sugar water. We also ordered steak picado, and if you look on the picture in the menu compared to what they brought to the table 🤦♀️ never again. They are very stingy with their portions and the prices are the type that you would see in a restaurant that serves great food. I would have gotten better options from El pescador or Kalaveras or any other restaurant like that. There's so much better out there. The service was so so, nothing special or extra. I was already bitter about the food so everything else was blah. I don't think the server did anything wrong, unless he had the option to make the guacamole the correct way and decided not to because we ordered a small in which he should have told us because we would have ordered the large to get and pay for what is worth it. After all, you eat with you eyes first.
Took 45 min to serve our food when the place was empty. The food was not good and very greasy. They don’t even have napkins or utensils on the table. 😭😭. It also took us an extra 20just to get our check. I thought this place was going to be our new to go spot.
Terrible place terrible food and the BUFFET I don’t recommend. I feel disappointed because when you go to eat at restaurant you want to enjoy the food and this place was hot later the guy turn on the AC FROZEN specially in my table!!! My GOD!
The food was Really COLD and it didn't have flavor at all. I try the menudo and carne en Chile. The menudo was ok, but the carne en Chile had no flavor whatsoever. I ask the server for some tortillas. Which I got about 20 minutes later and because I ask my server again. The agua de piña I had. Look and taste more like Limoda than Piña. I hate to leave a negative review. But I had a horrible experience. I will not recommend this place for sure.
I’ve been here before and had great experiences in the past, which is why today’s visit was especially disappointing. When we arrived, we were seated right away and ordered drinks, which came out promptly. However, once we placed our food order, the experience completely changed. We waited over 45 minutes—close to an hour—for our food, which consisted of aguachiles, ceviche, and one plate of enchiladas. These are cold dishes and do not require long preparation times. During the entire wait, our server never checked on us once. When the food finally arrived, I mentioned that we had been waiting over 45 minutes. Her response was simply, “Oh, I know—sorry,” with no explanation, no effort to make it right, and no follow-up such as comping drinks or offering a discount. What made this even more frustrating was noticing that the table across from us, served by a male server, received a much larger plate of food within about 15 minutes. The table behind us also received their food in a similar timeframe. This made it clear that our table was likely forgotten or our order was not put in on time. Waiting nearly an hour for cold food, combined with the lack of communication and accountability, felt dismissive and unacceptable. This experience was very frustrating and disappointing, especially because I genuinely liked coming here before. Unfortunately, due to this visit, we will not be returning. I hope management addresses these service issues so this does not happen to future guests.
First time here, and honestly… not great. This spot was recommended by a friend, so I came in excited, but the experience was a letdown. We got seated and drinks came out fast, but once we ordered food, we waited over 45 minutes—almost an hour. That’s wild, especially since I ordered ceviche, which shouldn’t take that long. No one checked on us the entire time or gave us any update. When the food finally came, it was already disappointing. We had to ask for utensils, which is annoying, and there were no salsa options except Tapatío. Like… that’s it? The ceviche had barely any flavor, and they didn’t even give lemons on the side, which made it hard to enjoy. It just felt unfinished. Also, no one ever asked how our food was or if we were having a good experience. No apology, no effort to fix anything. The only thing I liked was the music. Overall, not a good first impression at all. Definitely won’t be coming back, which sucks because I had high expectations going in.
