Walked in and immediately felt like family. Every single staff welcomed greeted us. We came for the buffet style brunch. They had so many options. The chilaquiles and pozole were spicy but delicious. Never had green mole it was so good. The best thing was the enchiladas they were so cheesy. They had so many options but didn't get to try everything. But everything I tried was delicious. Thank you to the staff for being attentive and really getting to know you. This place is a MUST when in LA. BRUNCH is 11am to 2pm
I love Chonito’s! Every time I’m in L.A. I make a point to stop in and enjoy the best table side guacamole ever. And their margaritas are all excellent ( they have a lot of choices). My favorite entree is Chile Relleno. The service is always excellent!
Food was outstanding. I am Mexican and it's very hard to find real, good Mexican food. This restaurant has an amazing variety of dishes at an affordable price. 2 👍
We are beyond grateful to Chinitos Mexican Restaurant for their generous donation to help us feed those in need. Their kindness and support made a real difference in our mission, and their delicious food brought smiles and warmth to so many people. It's not just about amazing flavors, which they absolutely have! it's about the heart behind the business. Thank you, Chinitos, for standing with us and showing what community truly means. If you're looking for incredible Mexican food made by even more incredible people, this is the place to go! Encarnacion the Manager was not only caring and supportive but also very compassionate for the cause.

First time visiting Chonitos, probably not the last! The food was really good for us. I had a carne asada burrito, and my girlfriend tried their sopes (one chicken, one steak). We also had a watermelon agua fresca that was SO refreshing, and a horchata that was incredibly flavorful and rich (to me, it tastes like a mouthful of Christmas)! The burrito was really good - the carne asada wasn’t too fatty, and the flavor was beautiful! It comes with rice and beans on the plate - the melted cheese they use on the beans is freaking great! So tasty! My girlfriend enjoyed her sopes and said they were very good as well. Both of us were content with our plates - the portions are big, so we had leftovers the next day for brunch! The chips and salsa with bean dip served when you arrive; let’s talk about this. Actually, the promise of bean dip was what sold us on trying Chonitos to begin with - bean dip is a huge bonus in our opinion, so that sealed the deal! Unfortunately, the bean dip is very spicy - so much so, that my girlfriend couldn’t eat it, which was really disappointing. I like spicy and I’m here to tell you - the bean dip is definitely too intense for casual diners, in my opinion. It needs to be toned down a notch. The salsa is decent - nothing incredible, and again, a touch too spicy for folks to truly enjoy. My mouth was definitely burning as I ate both - and my girlfriend had to sit it out and watch me eat as she sat there hungry. No bueno. And I’m not sure if it was our server or the restaurant’s practice - but the amount of salsa/bean dip they bring is SO little, after a few chips, I had to ask for more of each - the serving bowls are small, and they were each filled only half way! This comes across as the restaurant being super cheap, whether they intend to or not. We had to ask our server multiple times to bring more chips and dips - the restaurant was not busy at all, and so that was unfortunate. The best is when you’re brought more chips, etc. without even having to ask; this was definitely not that. Our server was nice - very friendly, even. We just had to keep asking for things when we were one of her only tables. The rest of the staff was very nice, too - so no complaints about the team except for the spotty service we had. The food took a long time to arrive. Too long, honestly. We weren’t in a rush - but if we had been, this would have been an issue. The restaurant was not busy - it felt like we were waiting at least 20 minutes for the plates, which is just a hair too long when you’re sitting there hungry (and unable to enjoy the chips/dips because everything is too spicy). The restaurant has a loud sound system. Half of the interior is a bar space and the music is definitely louder there. The more formal dining area is a bit more quiet but the music is still just a touch too loud - or at least it was for an early afternoon meal, in our opinion. 8pm on a Saturday, we’d totally understand! But it was like 2pm and not very busy - the music should have been set to a more appropriate volume. It wasn’t HORRIBLE - but it was a bit annoying. We will definitely be open to trying Chonitos again! It’s hard to judge based on one visit - the food was very tasty overall, and the service WAS nice, albeit slow. So maybe these things change with a different day and server. We shall see! It’s not super close to home - it’s about a 20-25 minute drive, so it’s not quite a neighborhood spot or impulse choice for us. But we agreed we definitely will return and try this place again - you can definitely do a lot worse when it comes to Mexican food, so give them a try and enjoy!
We came tonight for a marching band fundraiser. There is a very large selection and the portions are very good for the price. They also have a happy hour menu that has good sized portions. The menudo was a bit spicier than I expected. The Jamaica was very good, not too sweet and a good size (see the photo). They also have a few large screens for sports fans.
Updated review: Came to try the weekday lunch buffet. It was pretty good with a decent variety of dishes. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday. The buffet doesn’t include soda or other drinks, just water. It also doesn’t include chips and salsa, but if you ask they may bring some to you. The salsa was bland but the bean dip was good. *********** I'll admit that I need to try this place again to see if it deserves a higher rating. Only been here once so far. The service was quick, the food could have been a little better. It was good but what I ordered I won't order again. Mainly because I didn't like it but also because I want to try something else. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and there were too many onions in the enchilada. Rice and beans were ok. We had them make a shrimp quesadilla and my daughter really liked it. I thought it was too salty. The salsa and bean dip are good.
Chonitos Mexican Restaurant buffet is definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area. I tried a little of everything and was really impressed, especially with the tacos, the homemade crunchy tostadas, and the carne en su jugo. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and came out nice and hot. There was a great variety of condiments to customize your plate, which I appreciated. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and overall a very enjoyable experience. I’d happily come back again.
this place is pretty decent, very good service nice scenery too but the only thing that ticked me off was how 2 plates of food cost 90$, and there wasn't that much of a variety for the buffet section.

The food and drinks were good. Service was okay, but much to be desired. Most people are drawn to restaurants based on reviews and food presentation. With that said, the food tasted better than how it was presented. When I received the Chonitos Platter I literally forgot what I ordered. Everything was kind of piled one on top of the other so it basically looked like one large platter of nachos. Overall I would eat here again.
Stopped in for lunch while working in the area and opted for the buffet, which was the best value. The food and service were both decent—nothing spectacular, but hit the spot for a quick mid-day meal. The space has a nice 'modern cocina' feel, though the music was a bit loud for a lunch crowd. Overall, a solid, convenient stop if you’re nearby, but not necessarily a destination I’d go out of my way for.

Good service but I think the Sunday brunch was overpriced. Not a lot of food choices, no white bread and only red velvet dessert with churros. Not going again to this brunch.
The margaritas were the La Croix of flavor. The entire flight was watered down and faint of flavor as if they had been sitting out in the sun. Mango was the only good one. Also, the float was $30 for 5 four ounce pours. $6 for a four ounces of watered down margarita. You can get a great happy hour elsewhere. When we walked in the bartender said he was going to clear off the table so we could sit. The bartender cleared off the table but never came back. We waited. Someone else said we'd be seated. Then the third person said we'd be seated and we were finally sat. We promptly ordered our drinks but had to follow up on our waters because they were forgotten. The food was good but it came out at separate times which isn't a big deal but considering how things were going it really dampened the mood. We told them we would split the check. We put 2 debit cards in the plastic pocket of the card holder, one on top of the other. Only one card was charged as they "didn't see" the second one which somehow made its way under the receipt. Both cards were together so it was an obvious lie. They never brought napkins and never cleared our table so we couldn't sit and chat over our la Croix margaritas.
The meat tasted the worst I have ever had eaten in my life the food is over priced and they never refill my water

We like the food and happy hour but the worst service. To place order, to ask for something else, to get bill. The absolute worst.

Terrible place terrible food and the BUFFET I don’t recommend. I feel disappointed because when you go to eat at restaurant you want to enjoy the food and this place was hot later the guy turn on the AC FROZEN specially in my table!!! My GOD!
The food was Really COLD and it didn't have flavor at all. I try the menudo and carne en Chile. The menudo was ok, but the carne en Chile had no flavor whatsoever. I ask the server for some tortillas. Which I got about 20 minutes later and because I ask my server again. The agua de piña I had. Look and taste more like Limoda than Piña. I hate to leave a negative review. But I had a horrible experience. I will not recommend this place for sure.
I’ve been here before and had great experiences in the past, which is why today’s visit was especially disappointing. When we arrived, we were seated right away and ordered drinks, which came out promptly. However, once we placed our food order, the experience completely changed. We waited over 45 minutes—close to an hour—for our food, which consisted of aguachiles, ceviche, and one plate of enchiladas. These are cold dishes and do not require long preparation times. During the entire wait, our server never checked on us once. When the food finally arrived, I mentioned that we had been waiting over 45 minutes. Her response was simply, “Oh, I know—sorry,” with no explanation, no effort to make it right, and no follow-up such as comping drinks or offering a discount. What made this even more frustrating was noticing that the table across from us, served by a male server, received a much larger plate of food within about 15 minutes. The table behind us also received their food in a similar timeframe. This made it clear that our table was likely forgotten or our order was not put in on time. Waiting nearly an hour for cold food, combined with the lack of communication and accountability, felt dismissive and unacceptable. This experience was very frustrating and disappointing, especially because I genuinely liked coming here before. Unfortunately, due to this visit, we will not be returning. I hope management addresses these service issues so this does not happen to future guests.
First time here, and honestly… not great. This spot was recommended by a friend, so I came in excited, but the experience was a letdown. We got seated and drinks came out fast, but once we ordered food, we waited over 45 minutes—almost an hour. That’s wild, especially since I ordered ceviche, which shouldn’t take that long. No one checked on us the entire time or gave us any update. When the food finally came, it was already disappointing. We had to ask for utensils, which is annoying, and there were no salsa options except Tapatío. Like… that’s it? The ceviche had barely any flavor, and they didn’t even give lemons on the side, which made it hard to enjoy. It just felt unfinished. Also, no one ever asked how our food was or if we were having a good experience. No apology, no effort to fix anything. The only thing I liked was the music. Overall, not a good first impression at all. Definitely won’t be coming back, which sucks because I had high expectations going in.
