Ocean facing restaurant. It was sunset time and the view was spectacular. Service was excellent. Food was delicious and my drink was… I don’t know because I was drunk haha so it means I loved it.

Had a quick lunch after our hike.. the service was top notch and everyone so friendly. Can’t wait to return and try other things on the menu. Even the valet for $10 (cash only) was so very nice and funny!!

Incomparable location, Walking distance from the water. The service and staff was fantastic I ordered a sangria pitcher which was a great choice while checking Th great view. Tuna Ahi was delicious and kids had coloring paper while waiting for food. The overall experience at this place was great. The price is fair considering the location and the quality of the food.

Had brunch there, honestly so good! The view is amazing and the food was out of this world. I had a Smoked Salmon Benedict and recommend it 100%. If you park at the restaurant make sure you have $9 cash in you because the ATM charges like a $4 fee and cant withdraw under $20

Stopped in on a Saturday night during peak sunset, tables were reservation only but managed to get a seat at the bar within 15 min. Drinks were delicious, meal at large was really good. Personally didn’t love the crab and lobster linguine - there were HUGE chunks of meat, but the sauce overpowered the flavor too much for my taste. The highlight was the taco trio - was expecting smallish tacos but these were hefty and stuffed with meat. Octopus and tuna tartar were also pretty fire.

Atmosphere was great, staff was super friendly. Nico was a great waiter. Came for the lobster roll but it was no longer offered.

Nice beach front restaurant. I went with my friend ahmad for dinner and i missed the sunset (which I hear always that it’s amazing) but still really enjoyed my visit. It is very busy. I suggest a reservation no matter the time of day. Parking was easy to get access and park maybe because it was a Monday. They offer valet but space is still a small parking and limited. Food was amazing! Service was not great. We waited in the beginning to get our menu & we asked about any waiter to get our order, we seated indoor, a small table on the lower level near a window facing the beach. There are. Atmosphere was great. And the place is little bit expensive but worth a visit and a try.

As a photographer, I was absolutely blown away by the stunning beach views in front of The Sunset Restaurant in Malibu. The expansive, sweeping vistas of the ocean and sand were breathtaking, and provided the perfect backdrop for a romantic proposal that I had the privilege of capturing on camera. The natural beauty of the location was simply unparalleled, I photograph a lot in nature and it has to be one of the prettiest scenes I’ve been a part of, with the warm California sunshine casting a golden glow over the sand. In terms of the restaurant itself, it has a modern, sophisticated aesthetic that perfectly complemented the surroundings from the outside looking in. Now I want to go back and actually experience the view with an amazing meal. The Sunset, I am coming back for sure! Overall, I would highly recommend The Sunset Restaurant in Malibu, for scenery alone, to any one, let alone to any photographer looking for a truly spectacular setting for their shoots. Very cute little place right next to the beach. Very crowded but that's to be expected on a Sat afternoon. Definitely could benefit from hiring more wait staff. The waitress we had was nice she was just very distracted. Food was excellent and the drinks were top notch. Amazing bar tender.

Fantastic food, reasonable prices and fabulous service. When making reservations, I hade noted that it was for a birthday. After the dinner, the staff surprised us with a birthday desert with candles. 1st time there and definitely will be going back. The calamari and seafood linguini was the best. We’ll worth it… be sure to reserve table 30 min before sunset. This will give you time to take pictures during your appetizer and drink. After dinner you may be feeling too bloated. Four of us ordered 4 appetizers, 2 drinks and 4 entrees for approx 300 including tip. Very reasonable for quality and ambiance.

The Sunset is my favorite restaurant in the world. The vibe there is AMAZING I love how casual and kind of hidden it is, I love how we can dine with toes in the sand, LOVE the food (personal favorite is the linguine clams), the servers are super fun, and I've seen dolphins, whales, and a lot of surf when I go which just adds on to the awesome experience. Amazing place to go, great for a romantic dinner or a night out with friend. Oh and their happy hour is THE BEST in Malibu.

I had a fantastic dining experience at Sunset Restaurant on a busy Friday evening around 6 o'clock. The host Justine efficiently managed the chaos and was incredibly sweet. My waitress, Diana, was warm and kind despite the rush hour. The servers were quick and friendly. I ordered the wagyu burger, which was incredibly tasty. Overall, it's a great beachfront restaurant to enjoy a meal.

I was warmly greeted by Ron upon entering, and he made sure to give my daughter and I a table with the most majestic view of the sunset. Then, Vanessa took very good care of us as she served us for dinner. Her food recommendations were on point (yummy linguine seafood for dinner & the pistachio tres leche for dessert). The food, view, and service were perfect and the right combination for an unforgettable experience.

Been coming here forever! They slightly changed their menu! Strongly suggest ordering the taco trip with lobster, barramundi and shrimp! Amazing with relaxing beach views! Malibu laid back dining friendly staff and great valet! A must when you're in Malibu! Great wine and beverage selection!

They served us even tho they didn’t really have to! We pulled up VERY close to closing time and asked if they’d sit 3 people and they said yes but we had to order in the next 5 minutes! This however did NOT affect the service we received, all the food that we ate! The drinks and food here are absolutely phenomenal! The service is very nice and polite and helpful! I’ve been coming here for over 10years. Let’s get into it. By far the best happy hour in all of Malibu. By far without question some of the best food in Malibu. And by far some of the best staff in Malibu. Upon walking in I’m always greeted immediately. Staff is always very accommodating. Place is very clean. Seating options are fantastic. Let’s get into the food! I’ve had basically everything on their menu since day one. The menu changes regularly which is GOOD. But they always keep their most sold items on the menu no matter what. Which proves again that this place knows their customers. Tuna tartar. Either you get it from happy hour or normal menu. You cannot go wrong with this. The tuna is fresh. Stacked up with seaweed salad and fried wantons. And a lime crème for display and zing. Absolutely delicious. Wagyu burger. Cooked to the way you’d like. Seasoned to perfection. Large burger. Fresh ingredients as well. Can’t go wrong. But one of my favorites. Wagyu pasta Bolognese. I’m not kidding you when I say this. It IS one of the best I’ve ever had. I HIGHLY recommend this dish if you enjoy a good meat bolognese. Pasta cooked PERFECTLY al dente. You will eat this and know you’ve found your next favorite pasta in Malibu. And maybe even all of LA county. Give it a try. And don’t forget to add some cheese! With that said I cannot stress enough. This place is absolutely amazing. There’s a large reason it’s been here for so long and why it’s well known across the community. Food: very above average. Decor: clean and beach vibe. Staff: amazing no issues ever. Such beautiful hidden gem along highway 1 in Malibu. With gorgeous views of the ocean just steps from the beach. The outdoor dinning has beach sand to sink your toes into. Everything on the menu was phenomenal! You cant go wrong with the taco trio. We will definitely be back and try more from their menu. Gotta try it all and plan on spending sometime at the beach so bring a beach towel to enjoy after dinner views of the ocean.

This place is beautiful! I went right at sunset it was a little chilly so maybe bring a light hoodie. The food was delicious! The service was great! If you eat outside like I did watch for the seagulls lol ( I didn’t think of that one) but it was overall still great. Thanks for a great experience!

Amazing atmosphere, friendly service and delicious cocktails and food During happy hour I ordered the shrimp empanadas( flavorful but slightly lack luster 6/10, the sauce it comes with however is delicious and adds to the flavor bringing it to a 8/10) I also ordered the calamari ( good, 8/10 the dipping sauce brings it to a 9/10 The chicken sandwich is the star, JUICY half of my plate was drenched in juices from the meat which was beyond flavorful, fresh toppings and the toasted bread added a much needed crunch, the side salad was good as well 10/10 There is valet parking for $9 in which the attendant is Soo friendly and will even recommend going to enjoy the beach after a meal(which is nice to know you can leave your car for awhile even if you're not at the restaurant anymore

The staff here are friendly and attentive. The happy hour menu is available at the bar and front area. If you just want to stop by for a quick and relaxing time, I definitely recommend trying the happy hour menu! It’s also a great place for dinner or a full meal. I had the fried calamari (CALAMARI FRITTI) and the lobster & crab pasta (LOBSTER & CRAB LINGUINE). The pasta came with a slightly curry-flavored sauce and was loaded with generous chunks of lobster and crab meat. And you must try the fried calamari — it was absolutely delicious! The sauce that comes with it is amazing, and although there’s a $1 charge for a refill, it’s totally worth it because you’ll want to dip again and again. The combo is just perfect! Lastly, I also recommend the carrot cake for dessert — it was a great way to end the meal!

This place is one of a kind, difficult these days to be as close as the beach as this restaurant. This beach is also secluded from the PCH and a good place to hand out after a good meal. Besides a great location, the menu offers a seafood and fish theme which is very fresh and with a decent price given the location. The wine menu is also pretty wide and had a few great options, especially in the white selection. They have a lot of seating with an outdoor area with feet in the sand.

A lovely dinner with beachfront views, dog-friendly patio and delicious tropical drinks. Waitstaff were incredibly kind, professional and accommodating and the menu offered something for everyone. We enjoyed the cheese board which came with two types of cheese, fruits and spreads. The Mai Tais were well-balanced and perfect for the beach; and the wine list was full of great selections— we really enjoyed the Malbec. For Entrees we ordered the sea bass and the chicken sandwich, both of which were well-enjoyed. The sea bass was perfectly tender and the Mediterranean olive/tomato sauce on top complimented it well. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience— a perfect place for a beach day — stop in for lunch, dinner or cocktails and enjoy the sound of the waves!

I went there for Valentine's Day and it was the perfect date! We were seated upstairs and watched as the sun set over the ocean with the windows wide open. It was absolutely beautiful! Food was delicious as well! I ordered the octopus to start and it was so tender and melted in my mouth. The risotto was also amazing and had great flavors. Had an amazing date night! Views were in unbeatable and food was really good too!

After a great day at Westward Beach, Sunset Beach Cafe was the perfect, convenient spot to grab a bite. The star of the show was definitely the burger. I ordered the Wagyu beef burger, and it was absolutely delicious—juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, served on a fresh bun with greens and a side of perfectly crisp fries. That alone makes it a worthwhile stop! The downside of the meal, however, was the melon mocktail. I was hoping for something refreshing and sweet, but it sadly missed the mark. It tasted overwhelmingly like cucumbers, which wasn't what I was expecting at all. I'd skip that drink next time. Overall, Sunset Beach Cafe is a great place to go since it's located right there near the beach. The food is high-quality, and the burger is a must-try. I'll stick to water or a different beverage next time, but the solid meal makes the cafe an easy recommendation.

Great flavors. Especially the S. American fish was wonderful (luv sushi, not into whole fish), so for me to enjoy, it must have been really good. The tuna tartare with the guacamole was spot one. Service is pretty good for the most part, both the valet and server were amazing! The view is great. The food was delicious. The only complaint we had was we were placed next to a wooden room divider and you can hear every employee chatting behind it and doing something with dishes and silverware. We can also hear the gossiping and light insults between employees.

Beautiful view! Right off the road with an ocean view. Breezy open building and a light sandy outdoor patio. The waitress did a good job and was very polite. The food was great!! Nice an busy place in the end of the beach road. Great selection of tasty drinks and wine. Food is great and really nice presented. If you choose to just drink there are several of good and tasty cocktails and long drinks. I can recommend on that is not on the menu, and it's a spicy pineapple margarita. Served in a ceramic jug. Another great cocktail is the "sunset cocolada" with rum, pineapple juice, lime juice, almond orgeat, and a delicious foam of coconut and pineapple. The restaurant is overlooking the beach, so it's a beautiful place to have a drink or something to eat.

The salad was okay but the orange juice disappointed with being 8 dollars just that little glass :( By the way, menu prices are different at their web site, at the display outside of restaurant, and the one server gives you. Ridiculous!

To be expected from a beachfront spot - the food is OK. I was happily surprised at the prices and portions though. This restaurant is the only one in the area, making it totally worthwhile. We received friendly service from both our server and host. We came here on a Saturday afternoon it really wasn’t that crowded until after sunset. I definitely recommend this place in the if you’re in the area, drinks for a bit pricey but also very good.

The food is quite good but the service is chaotic. When we first arrived, it took a long time to get a waiter to come to our table and he could never remember what we were ordering or asking for. But by the end of the night, he was sitting down and chatting it up with us. Also the outdoor patio is nice but then you’re in the middle of the chaos of the valet and it gets pretty loud and crazy so I would recommend skipping the outdoor seating. That said, setting can’t be beat!

Service was pretty good, food was great and big portion sizes but a little pricey for the quality/flavor; however, the view and ambiance were what made this place special! Make sure you get seated somewhere with an ocean view so you can see the waves crash - absolutely breathtaking view. Great place for a date night or special occasion! Pictured: the restaurant and view, skirt steak with Asian brussel sprouts, crab and lobster linguine (very good), the Westward cocktail (watermelon and cucumber, delicious!)

We weren’t overly optimistic at first given most tourist spots with sunset views usually have just that “a view” but only bland food BUT we were pleasantly surprised to find the lobster tacos to be very rich & tasty. My spouse had the burger which was good and we shared the tuna tartare which was also delicious. When we arrived around 11 am, it was fairly empty but filled up quick and service started to slow down but still remained pleasant and effective. We will return again for sure to the Sunset.

Beautiful location for a beachside meal! The food was delicious but the server didn't check on us as often as I feel is appropriate. The traffic to park was insane and it's a cash only valet....other than that, a very lovely dining experience

For first timers, don't expect too much. It's a small place. Surrounding is very nice. Expect an ambience that makes u feel like you're in a garden. Hardly any view of the ocean. I think you can explore this place in less than an hour unless you spend time checking out the art work. If you've never been, definitely check it out. If you don't want to spend a lot, don't eat there. Our meal consisted of a salad, burger and hummus. I got a coke and a beer. It costs us about $100. So yeah, pricey indeed.

We headed to The Sunset for a beachside dinner with a view of the Malibu sunset. It’s located amidst the parking for Zuma Beach and Point Dume. So, reservations are a must and anticipate at least 10 minutes to either wait for valet parking or scour the road for parking (very difficult in the evening). The vibe is casual coastal with varying views of the ocean from nearly every table, sandy outdoor seating, and colorful decor. It’s buzzing so the noise level inside is significant and the service isn’t overly attentive. Our server was hustling and friendly, but had quite a few tables. We ordered everything pictured on this review. Overall the food is good. You’re essentially paying a premium for location/views. The scallops were described as two jumbo scallops with prosciutto and an apple vinaigrette. They arrived as four average sized scallops over an apple salsa with fried bacon. Tasty but a bit inaccurate. This was also true of the “roasted potatoes” which were reminiscent of fried breakfast potatoes. The tuna tartare was well-plated and both fresh and flavorful. It was also unique to find turbot on the menu and I enjoyed the puttanesca served over the fish. We were eyeing the pistachio dessert everyone seemed to order, but unfortunately they ran out by the time we ordered dessert. The tiramisu was a lighter, cream based version (instead of the richer version prepared with yolks) that my daughter thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended for a fun night out, beachside dining, or anyone looking to snag a spot to eat and enjoy a view of the ocean in Malibu.

Beach front. Excellent location. Out door seating is great. Good food, kids friendly. The pancake is really good. Fluffy yet a bit crunchy. Served with fresh fruit. If you get here before 11am, valet is easy. There is also a public parking lot about 5 minutes walk. After moon time on a sunday, parking can be challenge.

We visited The Sunset Restaurant yesterday, and the location alone makes it worth a stop. The restaurant sits right next to the beach with an incredible ocean and sunset view — truly a memorable atmosphere. The food was average — not great, but not bad either. Flavors could be more expressive, though portions were decent. Service was fine and timely. Overall, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset and ocean scenery. Come for the atmosphere; the food is secondary.

I ordered Spicy tuna tartar. The biggest disappointment. No spices,no salt,nothing. All it was chopped tuna with zero spices or sauce topped with the same plain avocado. Tartar is one of my favorite dish and it was terrible.

Wandering around Malibu Beach, I was hungry. I passed by this unique restaurant and had no choice. It is estimated that other tourists, like me, saw this restaurant and this is the only one restaurant choice. This place has a bar and a restaurant, the bar is very full, and the restaurant is about half the occupancy rate. The waiter looked very busy. The food I ordered took 40 minutes to arrive, which was really slow. Makes me very dissatisfied. Wait too long. The service is so-so, if you want to ask waiter something , you can only walk over to greeting the waiter by yourself. Their Training is too poor. The price is not cheap, but you can only eat here when you are hungry. Good location make more money. However, the chef is good, taste not bad. the Striped Bass Filet and my favorite, the Zealand salmon are both nice. but the garnished vegetables taste over cooked. The wagyu beef burger is delicious, and the oysters are also wonderful. It costs $10 to park besides the restaurant, and the parking service of two South American guy are a bit promiscuous.

View was great, on the beach at sunset. Nice lounge area, though rather chilly with side doors to patio open and diners next to us opening and closing their windows. Service was good, no complaints, friendly. Food was so-so...and way too pricey as you might expect on the beach here in SoCal. They let me have the fish sandwich even though it was after 3pm. Disappointing. Brioche bun too dry and the fish was small, and onions tasteless. Picked at it but didn't finish. French fries were wonderful...large portions, hot, quick! This was our second time. We stopped in route back from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara, but probably wouldn't make a point of going just for the restaurant.

I have some very fond memories of this establishment, being at my brother's wedding and a friend's wedding. That being said I was a lil disappointed with this place today. I'm stressing today because it could be different on another day. Celebrating my wife's birthday three days early on this perfect summer day in May. The ambiance was perfect socal coastal surfer. I won't talk about price because it's facing the pacific ocean and you pay a tax for that. It's understood. Anyhow we ordered the Spicy ahi tuna. This was on point creamy and fresh. I would argue maybe needed more then 4 crispy wonton chips. I would say a couple more would do it. Ordered the Zuma Cobb salad and it was great. Perfect portions to share. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos... seeing her take a bite I could see in her face that it had issues. The shrimp was gummy and chewy and dry. The sauce did nothing to help redeem it. She literally took just one bite. 😭 Any how I split my wagyu burger 🍔 with her. It was also a lil overcooked as I ordered it med rare. Still a perfectly serviceable burger with nicely crispy fries. The views were superb so our date was not bad at all. I hope to come back and try other entrees. If anything the ambiance and views will always be something to remember.

This is one of them place you go for the view not the food. The "Fish" sandwich was hardly that. It was more along the lines of an eggplant sandwich. The server/bartender was super sweet and kind. I felt bad be she was stretched so thin and really hustling, but couldn't keep up. The view is unmatched though.

I would like to mention the Sunset restaurant in Malibu only for its location. But the food leaves much to be desired, not only did we have to wait 40 minutes for our order, but the taste was also very mediocre, nothing to say wow, it was worth the money I paid. But not in this case. I would also like to say about the portion size, it is a complete mockery, you can hardly see the food on the plate. In general, the conclusion is that the restaurant is very overrated. A confident 3-.

This place is all about the location. Unfortunately we were seated at the very back at the golden hour and couldn’t enjoy the beach view and sunset. Never the less the vibes were good. Service was decent and it took a while for them to take our orders due to the dinner rush but the food and drinks arrived shortly after that. We got Sunset Cocoladas, sauteed broccoli, chips, truffle fries, Eggplant Parmigiana, Mushrooms Risotto. We really loved the chips and risotto.

Location location location Food was very good, much better menu and quality now then in the past, they could use a remodel and a deep cleaning. I will definitely be back for the lentil soup, the Wagyu meat balls, the tuna and the mushroom risotto, all equally delicious.

Outside seating is right next to the valet so it's fun to watch people park while you eat but there is no view of the sunset from in or out. The building is set back from the beach and interrupted by a continuous line of cars. The oysters were great. The service was not. I twice asked for napkins and silverware and the staff was too busy moving onto the next thing to pay attention.

Been wanting to come here for a little bit now! Staff were amazing. Very friendly and quick. Sad to say the ham and scrambled egg dish was extremely disappointing. Eggs were under cooked with no seasoning. Potatoes were over cooked and mushy, no seasoning either. The ham was good. Presentation was gorgeous. The toast was also hard and over cooked. The mimosa was delicious. Atmosphere was wonderful. Excellent music selection! The valet gentleman was extremely friendly. However, when he wasn't tending to the vehicles, he was on his phone playing games with the volume seemingly at full blast. That was honestly super annoying and put a damper on the overall Atmosphere. I would not recommend the breakfast. It was nowhere near worth 22 bucks. I would try and come back for lunch or dinner, but that's a long shot.

I was hoping the food was as good as the atmosphere. The ambiance is absolutely stunning. Indoors was very lively and outdoors you’ll get more of a serene feel. Luckily every area of the restaurant has a lovely view. However the service on the patio was embarrassing. Two waiters initially asked what I wanted to drink and left to get my drink then never came, In the end the busser brought me my water. I also watched a guest was adjusting her table on her own as the waiter he completely walked by, ignored and didn’t even offer to help. That is absolutely sad for a restaurant of this tier or any restaurant at that to have this low quality service. The food was disappointing. While the Parmesan truffle fries were delicious, a nice savory taste of truffle and the Parmesan was light yet complimenting. The burger was awful. It was so bitter, I tried eating half assuming they were aiming for a “Smokey” flavor but the after taste was horrid. I decided to leave it be and finish the fries. I’m not sure why it was so bad considering the other reviews here but I guess it depends on the day. All in all, the view makes this restaurant. The food and service is either inconsistent or disappointing. With that being said I’d still recommend coming here for the view, staying away from the burger maybe try an heir pastas and keep your expectations pretty minimal.

As we waited we watched as the manager Ron came over said I need that table for some of the owners friends. The host said people have a reservation and are standing there waiting for it. He said I don't care these are the owners friends and they don't want to eat upstairs because no one is up there. We watched as they gave away our table. The host was very nice and apologized but the only other options were tables where could not see the sunset, the main reason we made a reservation in advance and drove 55 minutes. I know a lot of business owners and I don't think they would want their manager to screw over paying customers because their friends stopped by. Still can't believe he saw us standing there, knew we reserved the table and said I don't care. Walked across the street to watch the sunset and went to a restaurant that cares about their customers.

I brought my 1 year old puppy here after I called and asked them if I could bring my dog with me- I was assured that -yes. Once we got seated outside - another dog came in- and both dogs growled at each other. No one was bitten and no issues whatsoever - we were in fact waiting to order food - while a rude manger came out and requested that we leave - since some staff their was “afraid” of my 1 year old rescue sharpei mix . We had to leave and the manager didn’t even offer to reimburse for valet parking . Will never be coming back here - horrible service . However valet guys were super pleasant and apologized on behalf of the restaurant . Manager also refused to provide a card with his name . Very disappointing

Giving this 1 star review for terrible service. We planned to get starters to go, so we could enjoy the sunset while having them. Had to wait 45 min for a side of french fries and asparagus, and the food still didn’t arrive. When asked for a refund, it took 5 minutes for the hostess to find the manager and the manager took another 10 minutes to process the refund, all while I was standing at the door. Wish the staff were more competent to run this pretty looking restaurant on the beach.

Great beach vibe. Awesome friendly service. Can be a little traffic because off beach goers trying to find a free parking on the street. Restaurant has a $10 valet parking which’s totally worth it. Keep your receipt to show valet guy. They were asking me if I parked and went to beach ( which would’ve make it $50). Didn’t like the olives and tomato sauce on Australian sea bass ( personally never had olives on fish before ). I got sick. I will definitely never go back

We came here as 5 people. Our server was Carolina P. She was polite at the beginning. Our orders didn’t match with her expectations then she become really rude. She was having chat with other servers tables, but she haven’t talked any word with us. Overall bad experience.

Sadly, I’ve had better service at McDonalds. Solo diner, and despite having spent about $100 in food and cocktails, the server could not be bothered to serve my needs.I felt invisible the entire meal, my server never checked on me to see if I was enjoying ANY portion of the meal, from oysters on half shell to my main course. I ran out of water and cocktail multiple times, and just waited and waited. As a ex server myself, I can say that this kind of service is completely, absolutely unacceptable. I will not dine here again and will be sure to discourage others from visiting. Don’t waste your time here.
