The place is awesome, with a beautiful interior, super friendly atmo, and great sandwiches. I tried a roast beef sandwich, which was very simple with tomato, lettuce, and sauce, and without additional ingredients and heavy flavors. It reminded me of simple and spontaneously prepared homemade sandwiches, we all love. The manager is very friendly, communicative, and attentive to the customers. I’m going to return and try other sandwiches from the menu as well.

We ate inside, not take out. The manager was very attentive and welcoming. The sandwiches and the bread were superb. They made my husband a whole new sandwich because he arrived 5 mins later and the sandwich was sitting there even tho I didn’t even ask for it. Great portions too!

Lucky was the sweetest host ever! So hospitable and kind, will definitely be returning!

People talk about seeing Jesus in bread but I literally saw the very face of god in these sandwiches. Every day I walk by Lil' Frankie's Grocery and Katz, on one hand I am disgusted that Katz has a longer line than Frankie's, on the other hand I am thankful I can get the best sandwich in NYC with ease. This is the kind of restaurant instagram hype beasts ignore (because they are not paid to shill it) but it is the exact type of place that deserves more praise, and is the type of flavortown experience people are looking for when they come to NYC to sample the best food in America. Plus the people working there are so friendly and amazing! The sandwich menu itself is a comprehensive set of finely tuned sandwiches. Each is unique, delicious, and composed of extremely complimentary ingredients that most 1 star MICHELIN restaurants in NYC fail to achieve. (I've been to many) My favorites: Classic - The Employee of the Month Crowd Favorite - Brown Butter Steak Neo-Culinary Perfection - Hot Thanksgiving Sandwich Breakfast - The Fran

Sandwiches were excellent, little arugula salads were included as a pleasant surprise. The front of house staff were so kind and attentive even though I was just doing a pick up order. Will definitely be coming back

RUN to try the sandwiches here! 1000% the best ones I’ve ever had. We tried the prosciutto and mozz focaccia, and the chicken parm. You could taste the high quality of every single ingredient in every bite. Will definitely be coming back to try everything on the menu!

I’m rarely compelled to leave a review for a restaurant but I had one of the best sandwiches of my life here today. You must try it.

"The Fran" is the sando’s name and consists of eggs, crispy guanciale, fontina cheese, & arugula on a Ciabatta roll. this sandwich is a great mix of flavors from silky smoothness of the eggs fried in olive oil to the salty salty sweet fattiness of the guanciale (pig’s cheeks) to the sharpness of the fontina cheese to the peppery slight bitterness of the arugula—all sandwiched in a crusty ciabatta roll with a soft chewy inside. while nothing will replace a classic bacon egg & cheese, this is a worthy order for something off-the-beaten-path. Lil’ Frankie’s Grocery serves a sandwich menu during the day and then a pizza-centric menu at night. there are Italian-groceries like olive oils, tomato sauces, pastas, etc. in the narrow space. there is a large communal table for seating. the small deli space upfront is where the sandwiches are made. service is quick and friendly.

Disappointing experience at lil Frankie's grocery. I wanted the roast beef sandwich. First off, the bread is superb, Maybe I will come back and try a hot sandwich with no produce because this is what I received today: overly salty roast beef slices and an inedibly large slice of flavourless tomato. It also took forever to make which is crazy I was the only person there and it is a cold sandwich with four ingredients. Whoever is working either doesn't know what they're doing or doesn't care either way such a miss.

Whoever is working either doesn't know what they're doing or doesn't care either way such a miss.

I used to love coming here and have been a regular for years, so I'm genuinely disappointed to be writing this. Maybe it was just Memorial Day staffing, but the experience was awful. I came in with my 1-year-old daughter to order sandwiches, and the man at the counter was surprisingly rude. He told me it would be a 20-minute wait and insisted I pay upfront, which has never been the norm here. I went for a walk while we waited, then came back to pick up the food. He kept saying "it's coming, it's coming," but I noticed someone already sitting down eating exactly what we ordered. Clearly they gave our food to someone else. After waiting another 15 minutes, I heard him finally tell the kitchen to make our order again. Then I heard more confusion and realized they gave our replacement sandwiches to someone else too. At this point, it had been 40 extra minutes on top of the 20 initial, my daughter was upset, and I asked for a refund. Instead of honoring that, the man rushed back, grabbed the (finally correct) sandwiches, shoved them in a bag, and handed them to me to go. Really hoping this was a one-off with poor holiday staffing and not a sign of where things are headed.
