We found Uoko searching for a new sushi spot and so glad we did. The hand rolls are what makes me keep coming back. Not come shaped and fish all the down to the last bite. Fresh and consistent in quality and presentation. Everyone is super friendly and let's talk about the coldest mugs of Sapporo. Ice forms on the glasses and there's a little iceberg of beer floating when it comes to your table. We love Chris and all the staff there. Even if there's a wait, it's totally worth it and our go to place for sushi now. Highly recommend!

As soon as you walk in, you can tell that this place is authentic. Very family-oriented and cozy atmosphere with FRESH and delicious food. The staff know their regulars and are so incredibly kind. I’m just here for a short visit but am so impressed. I can’t believe this little slice of Japan doesn’t have thousands of positive reviews already! Such a gem!

A wonderful little sushi dive in the area of the hotels. This is my third trip in and the food has been very fresh and extremely consistent. There is no fancy styling on my plate, just fresh sushi roles. made quick and good. always busy when I above been at this place. We went with two rolls, one rainbow, and one spicy salmon. very good and nice size. Very simple decor and very busy sushi chefs. I loved the women serving us as I ordered, She only let us order what she thought we would eat. found this place originally on Yelp

Our fav sushi spot in South OC. It's a local / regulars spot and excellent if you sit at the sushi bar. But sushi bar is competitive and it's hard to get a seat unless you arrive before opening, most days, both lunch and dinner. We usually let the chef decide what we'll eat and it's seriously good sushi. Very reasonably priced for the quality.

It is an unpretentious place with an immaculate execution. A perfect place for lunch or dinner. The rice and sushi is awesome. Better than in Japan. A warm towel starts you off with a salad and drink. Everything after that is wonderful, light, and super clean tastes. Best I've had. They show you the whole fish to show you how fresh it is. Absolute perfection. A must.

The food here is excellent !! Very authentic. Feel like we're in Japan. Our top favorite is Gyoza - the best my husband has ever had as he said, then comes the sushi rolls, tonkatsu and udon. Definitely coming back to try more dishes here. Price is also very reasonable. The serving portion is not too big, which is great as we can try many different dishes without being too full. Highly recommended !

Really yummy place. They have a great lunch special if you sit at the bar. $18 and you can pick 5 items. They have a variety from hand rolls to cut rolls and just sushi on rice🍣🍱🍙. Comes with miso soup. 🫕Delicious. And the chef makes it right in front of you! 👨‍🍳Some weird rules such as not ordering the same things more than once and no sharing. But I mean, it’s good to try a variety of things. And the 5 items definitely fill you up if you get a variety. They all came out pretty fast and they all tasted really amazing. This is a little place but it’s a great place and I did really enjoy it!!! 🤤👍😍

Amazing food! The chef at the very left (forgot his name) is from Osaka, and his sushi was really really good. Not only the food was great, but his personality was very easy going and entertaining. Had a blast time there.

Super Oishi! It looks like a hole in a wall place, but it exudes an atmosphere of authentic friendliness and Japanese hospitality. The sushi chef is very friendly and attentive to our needs, as well as the rest of the staff. The food they have are also yummy and is not very pricey compared to other Japanese restaurants. Good value for money. They gave us some oranges after our meal. It's a good way to end a nice dinner.

Last night, I had most excellent salmon skin hand roll, ama ebi, & fresh uni sushi prepared by Suzuki-San. Then, I took an order of tamago to go for my flight snack this morning. It was truly THE BEST tamago I've ever eaten: velvety texture, just the right sweetness, stuffed with the perfect bite of rice! Excellent food & service!

Japanese Gem! Outstanding sushi - some of the bast I’ve had outside Japan: fish is fresh and flavorful, slices are generous, rice is perfect texture. Although they offer the mongrel multi-fish rolls with gloppy sauces that some Americans seem to like, stick with the simple rolls and nigiri, which they excel at. The other food was also delicious: light crispy tempura, delicious noodles. Try the Shirashi - a real treat not on the menu. Service was fine, though a bit hectic. The restaurant is small, and they don’t take reservations, so you may have to wait, but it’s worth it.

Uoko is a favorite Japanese restaurant for my my and me as we eat there every week. We have been going for many years. They serve the best food at very reasonable prices. They are actually our standard that we compare with when eating at a different Japanese cuisine. We haven’t found one better.

L

This place is wonderful. The absolute best sushi around here, but still nicely priced. However, it is all the other Japanese cuisine that makes this place so awesome. To start, their rice is the best on this side of the world. It is just the right kind of sticky, without being starchy, and the flavor is perfectly flat, allowing it not right with the other food. Really excellent teriyaki that is super flavorful, but not oversauced. Their soups are the most amazing things though, with deep yet subtle flavors. If you get the sukiyaki, you will become addicted, so be careful. The staff are super friendly and fun. Is great for small families or group, couples, or just someone looking for lonely sushi at the bar.

Best local Sushi spot in OC! You can’t beat the quality, price and consistency of this spot. Family owned for many years and they have so many great chefs everyday of the week. Truly a gem and so honored to have this spot so near my house. Things I would recommend off the side menu - Pepper Squid and Monk Fish Liver are fantastic. If you like Saba sushi it is one of my favorites here as well as the live shrimp when in season. But the Negi Toro Sushi, Uni and Hamachi are always a great choice here as well. Chris and his team of waitresses are very kind and helpful and staff are always there to help. Hope you give it a try and if you see me at the bar come say hello!

I was born in Japan, grew up in Kansai, and moved to America. Recently, the number of Korean-run sushi restaurants has increased, and I dislike it because sushi with strange things and sauce on it, isn’t proper sushi. Anyone can make sushi, but if you want authentic sushi, I’d highly recommend Uoko restaurant. Uoko is a safe quality restaurant that is Japanese owned, with Japanese sushi chefs and servers and serves real Japanese sushi at an affordable price.

E

Really good 30 year old Japanese place. Sushi is above average and classic dishes esp anything fried is phenomenal. Most people don't notice and just go eat slop at other places in this mall but uoko is a hidden gem. It's food is on par with what you find in Japan.

This was our 2nd visit to Uoko and it just keeps getting better. Sushi Chefs, Masami and Masa are masters of their craft. It’s mesmerizing to see them in their flow while their carving out impressive morsels of fish to devour. Masa serenaded us with a romantic tune about my negitoro hand roll. I know it tasted even more amazing because of it.

This cozy little sushi spot is a hidden gem. The staff's warm hospitality creates a truly inviting atmosphere. Fresh, delicious sushi is prepared with care and presented beautifully. The sushi bar is the place to sit. They have a sushi lunch special that has a very good spread for many different pallets. The price $$ is decent, not cheap but fair. The service can be slow when it's crowded. Overall I recommend this place in this area of OC. Lunch can get crowded so plan ahead, and be early to beat the crowds.

I have been traveling to and from Japan since childhood and there is nothing more exciting when food transports you to a place of memories filled with joy. Last night my mother and I took a quick break for dinner and stumbled upon a new strip mall in Lake Forest with over 15 restaurants featuring Vietnamese, Peruvian, Turkish, and Mexican to name just a few. Uoko was amazing and the interiors and smells were like any family owned and operated establishment in Japan. The sushi, tempura and katsu-don were awesome and I would rank it as one of my favorites in the USA. Japanese owned with Japanese chefs and servers. The dashi base was authentic and genuine and I plan to return again. GH

Uoko is a nice little family owned restaurant that has been around for a very long time, with good reason. The food is excellent and at par with much higher priced restaurants. The restaurant is small and can get quite busy and noisy, which does have its appeal for a certain ambiance, but if you like it more quiet, its best to go during non peak hours. The staff is friendly, food and prices are great. Its easy to find and has plenty of parking.

I almost don’t want to write a review because I’m scared of Uoko getting more popular than they already are. My husband and I have been dining here for years and ate huge fans!! Great sushi at an amazing price point and their katsu curry is amazing! The only downside is the wait but once you try them, you’ll see why Uoko is so popular!

I've been coming here since they opened in 1984. It continues to be one of the best sushi bars in South Orange County, if not the greater Orange County area. They buy a variety of good fresh fish. The chefs are all experienced "old guys" who know what they're doing. Chris, the manager is a working manager. He makes sure everybody enjoying the hospitality is getting everything they need. The hot food menu looks good too, but I always eat at the sushi bar.

J

I have been coming here for years. Best Sushi place ever. Authentic Japanese Sushi restaurant. There are three old Japanese sushi man behind the sushi bar that has been there for most of their life seems like. They make the best sushi rice and their fish is always fresh and cut to the perfection. This place is for a real Sushi lovers. The Miso Soup is also perfect as well as their salads with their special dressing. Their authentic Japanese style atmosphere makes you feel like you are in Japan. Go there early or expect to be on the waiting list almost every day. Oh the price is very reasonable.

Here’s a refined version of your review with improved flow and clarity, while keeping your original voice: We went for lunch on a weekday and tried their lunch special, where you can pick five items from a list for about $22. We sat at the bar, which was a nice spot to watch the sushi being prepared. The yellowtail sushi was amazing — definitely a highlight. The tuna sushi and tuna cut roll were also really good. Eel sushi was great too. We didn’t love the albacore or salmon sushi, but that might have been because of the sauce they used; next time, I'll probably ask for it without the sauce. We also weren’t fans of the spicy yellowtail hand roll, but the regular yellowtail hand roll was good, so it seems it was the sauce in the spicy version that didn’t quite work for us. overall great customer service, great atmosphere, great fish quality, and a great selection. I would highly recommend.

Came for lunch on a weekday, and service was fast. They have a sushi bar area, regular seating, and booth seating near the entrance. We opted for two lunch combos to try, and both were good. Loved that their raw fish and sushi were pretty fresh, and the owner was super friendly and nice. The only suggestion would be the portions, the pork chop sashimi combo was so tiny (like a kid’s meal) Overall, love the freshness. Relatively reasonable prices compared to LA sushi places, but we do wish the portions were bigger. Worth a visit! #bb11

The chef was nice and friendly. We ordered few kinds of sushi and appetizers which were quite good. However, their service was too slow. It was Friday night but only one waitress was working. We didn't have any refill of green tea or water.

Really good authentic Japanese food for the price. Not the very best but can't be beat for the price, especially in South OC. Great, friendly service.

Located in a unassuming strip mall but the food is authentic Japanese. We have the seaweed salad and it was a vert fresh seaweed flavor with soy sauce and a hint of wasabi. Also like the nabeyaki udon with ponzu soy dipping sauce.

K

Older but clean place. Service is so so, but I think it's because they don't have a lot of staff (and I always go right when it opens and it's a mad rush at 5pm). But to the most important part. Their sushi is very, very good. Not fancy, but these Japanese sushi chefs always present you with very fresh and good quality sushi.

The food is great, I love coming for the lunch special. Sushi is high quality and the lunch special is a great deal. I always come and sit at sushi bar. The service can be a hit or miss but overall it's a good spot.

I admire the authenticity of the restaurant and the food tastes good and fresh. One issue is there is a booth that sort of hides customers from the staff, so it takes a while to flag down a waiter or waitress for a refill of water. I like their selection of AYCE sushi and their display of customers' sketches at the host area.

P
Prizilla Catino

This is our "go to" sushi bar. The food is consistently good. If you're looking for a sushi rolls covered with sauce, this is probably not they place for you. However, if you're looking for a more authentic sushi place, and like to taste the freshness and quality of fish, Uoko will not disappoint. Parking can be a bit of a problem during busy lunch and dinner hours.

I've been to the Tustin location years ago, but decided to venture to the location closer to home this time around. Located off the 5 freeway on Lake Forest Drive, it's in a very popular plaza with Buffalo Wild Wings, Inka Grill and other pleasant eats! We came through for an early dinner, but the tables were all taken and only the bar was available. We were originally seated at the middle of the bar, but when we asked for the regular menu, they moved us to the far right corner instead. It was probably done to allow other patrons who exclusively want sushi to be seated there for a prime experience. Boyfriend did order the Bento combination while I went with omakase. The chef started the course with an amuse bouche of pickles and a warm towel. Then he delivered an 8-piece meal which included chutoro, yellowtail, bonito, amberjack, halibut, squid, seared salmon and sea urchin (uni). Beautifully presented! I had room for a few more like scallop and unagi. Boyfriend got a the chicken and steak bento combination with tempura, CA roll, braised potatoes and some soybeans. Very filling meal and we had to pack some leftovers! As we slowed down the evening, the chef presented orange slices soaked in plum wine for dessert. A clean finish for the end of the meal. I was also a bit surprised (in a very good way) on the price of everything. My omakase and the additional sushi pieces we had totaled to about $45 and the bento was $15.95. Would definitely come back again and will try to plan accordingly to get seated at a table.

Great value sushi lunch specials! Sushi bar lunch special let's you pick 5 items out of a list of sushi (nigiris which are 2pc/order), hand rolls and cut rolls (2-6pcs depending on the choice). Comes with miso soup and apptizer (small pickled veggies) You have to sit at sushi bar and chefs are busy (2 chefs) so it's best when you have at least 1 hour to dine in. Yellow tail sushi and yellowtail handroll were great. Seabass and tuna tataki were little too salty - they came out with a lot of soy-based sauce. Eel sushi also had a lot of eel sauce.

This place is nice for a dinner out. Great service. The staff is nice and friendly. The food is yummy, but nothing amazing. I usually get the rainbow roll and it fills me up. It's a nice small place.

Great place to have Japanese cuisine. I went to this restaurant with my wife and daughter. We ordered Chirashi and sushi sets. I like Chirashi Bowl very much. It comes with several kinds of sashimi on top of bowl of rice. Sushi was also great.

Good food. Local place which is super crowded and loud. Tables crammed into small space. We nonetheless enjoyed the food. Service was rushed.

The people are friendly, the sushi is good, chicken in the dinner combo could be cooked a little more, just me. Not too happy seated and waited for menus when there were open tables, then had soup without spoon, went and grabbed myself. Overall okay, it got busy here.

Not a fan of their salad. The dressing is okay but the greens are not too fresh or appealing. Our order took sometimes to get to us.. longer than necessary for a scallop and mushroom small dish. Sashimi wasn’t placed nice on the dish and was very small in pieces.

My parents like the place, and I also enjoyed in the past. Food is usually good. But try avoiding busy weekends: Ramen came out first, eel and ikura sushi came out second, ankimo next (which I wanted with my hot sake), amaebi and oysters as appetizer came out last. Disappointed.

Waiting 10 minutes or more Food is ordinarily soup. And sald same as in donated for poor people Food price is ok But the way presented and looking to you to finish quickly and bring the bill before asking any thing is unacceptable behavior Eat fast and go

Taste was ok and I felt price was a bit more than what I got. Also it would be plus if I can see more kindness in serving.

Average at best. Not very fresh. I've been spoiled buy a different place, so I'm very partial to my sushi. See my other sushi ratings to find out where the best sushi is in Orange County.

Sad to see the formerly well established restaurant be run down with shockingly rude service from wait staff. Get new waiters with basic service knowledge.

They used to be one of better ones, but not anymore. The restaurant lost their effort to make customers happier with better food. The service got worse and worse. I'm a Japanese and don't go there as there are so many other Japanese restaurants around there.

The worst experience. The food was disgusting like it had been sitting for weeks. Very soggy and crunchy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!

If you want to be ignored for 40 minutes in the waiting section, never greeted by staff once, rushed through your meal (which half of was forgotten), talked down to when ordering (called a “kid” for ordering a noodle dish from their main menu and harshly judged for “ordering too much food”), AND have them STEAL AND COMMIT FRAUD WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD, then this is the place for you!!! We have never been so poorly treated in a restaurant— and it absolutely constituted no tip at the end of our horrible experience. Couple days letter we notice they changed the total amount we paid by FALSLY ADDING A TIP (FRAUD AND THEFT). Good thing we took a picture of our receipt because we are calling our credit card company AND the police!!!!! Never will we subject ourselves to their filthy behavior or business again. We will be reporting to better business bureau.

gave me the wrong roll, waitress said that what i circled so i gave it a try and did not like it. refused to do anything about it even tho it was wrong from the beginning. then tried charging us for two miso soups that we asked to not take because we wanted to leave after the food was wrong

FOODS NOT FRESH. I went there today 6-10-19, had Teriyaki Chicken & California Roll lunch meal. Food tasted old, the salad had wilted lettuce and the crab meat in the Cal rolls was stale, the chicken smelled weird, too scared to eat it. Not sure how they were rated 4 1/2 stars, I went there because of this rating, my first and last visit

We’ve visited this restaurant a couple of times before and had a decent experience, especially when sitting at the sushi bar. But this most recent visit—our first time at a table—was shockingly bad from start to finish. Right away, our server came off as rude and dismissive. When we politely asked to replace a chipped bowl, she curtly replied, “All of them are broken.” It was such a bizarre and unhelpful response. We asked a different server instead, who quickly brought us a new bowl. Moments later, the original server came back to our table and, in a sarcastic and confrontational tone, said “Much better?” twice. We were completely taken aback. It was uncomfortable, and honestly, felt needlessly hostile. Then the food arrived—and we were stunned by how far the quality had dropped. The rainbow roll and sushi pieces looked and tasted cheap, nowhere near the standard we remembered from just a few months ago. The sashimi was dull and lacked any freshness. Even the restaurant’s signature nabe was disappointing—the small portion of udon noodles was broken into tiny, soggy fragments. It felt like a careless afterthought. And just when we thought the experience couldn’t get worse, the bill came—with an extra charge for something we didn’t even order. Thankfully they removed it when we pointed it out, but by then the damage was done. It’s honestly shocking how drastically this place has gone downhill—in both service and food quality. We left feeling disappointed, uncomfortable, and frankly stunned. We won’t be coming back, and it’s a shame because we once saw potential here. I’m pretty sure they might not even care about such negative experience we might had since they have decent amount of regulars coming back, but it’s just sad to see them going downhill.

We have been coming here since current owner’s parents were running the business. We ordered lunch combinations . Even though they raised the price but the quality and quantity are not there. The whole plate looks sad. We will probably not go back .

I rarely post reviews, but places with bad service deserve to be called out. Don't go when you're hungry or ever, because you might end up sitting outside waiting for a long time for the terrible wait staff (seriously gone down hill) to ignore you even though there are many empty tables and then try to demean you while you are having your meal, all the while rushing you out the door with an early check and wanting a big fat tip. Yes, no joke. This left such a bad taste in my mouth, no amount of their authen.. err, Americanized Japanese food could overcome my disgust. 0 stars but forced to put 1 star which I'll attribute to the sushi bar chefs (kudos). Read Christina's review; it's spot on, unfortunately...

This afternoon around 2 p.m., I came here for the first time. The waiter was extremely rude and rushed me when I asked for time to look at the menu, saying I could only have one or two minutes. We were so upset that we left immediately. If you open a restaurant, don’t treat customers like this. Why show a friendly attitude to white customers but be rude to us? That feels like racial discrimination. With service and behavior like this, no matter how good the food is, I won’t come back.

  • Bebidas tradicionales japonesas y postres ligeros.
