Delicious vegan tamales! 🫔 The namesake drink, cafe de olla, really hits the spot on a (rare in the Mission) chillier day. They also serve a really good iced tea. I recommend asking for hot sauce for the tamal since it's not crazy spicy but instead brings a great smokey flavor with the right amount of heat. 🔥 Friendly staff and great prices!

The next time you say, “i think i’ll just get a burrito” ignore the urge and head to Café de Olla, and treat yourself to Oaxacan dishes for something much more flavorful. The Tlayuda with Carne Enchilada will satisfy your every craving with a delightful crunch and char on the corn tortilla. Perfect for a full meal or like i did, get it “on the side” with a Memala, which also packed a savory punch with the luscious asiento & beans. Also, don’t miss their namesake, the Cafe de Olla, for an iced coffee treat that can’t be beat.

La mejor comida oaxaqueña en San Francisco by far 😍😋 I used to have to drive to Petaluma for this, but glad to see its now within San Francisco! We ordered the tlayuda de maíz azul with cecina enchilada and memela with tasajo. Both had flavors and textures that brought me back to Oaxaca; food tasted homemade and made with love and care. If I lived closer, I would have to come every day. Besides the food, the environment is welcoming, filled with light and colors that resemble Oaxaca. 😋🇲🇽🌯🫔🌮

Amazing Oaxacan restaurant/cafe in the Mission. I got a tasajo tlayuda and one bite transported me back to my family's kitchen so you know this is authentic. On the cafe side, I love to get their iced Mexican Mocha and it's one of the best I've had in SF. The people here are friendly and definitely do take pride in bringing the energy of Oaxaca to San Francisco. Don't sleep on this gem and support this fantastic business.

We had just enough time for a quick breakfast before setting up the tents at the Mission Delores Park for the noontime rally supporting the use of water cannons on unruly mobs. It was Pecos Pete that suggested we eat at the Café de Olla, he says the small breakfast plate is the best in the city! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ for sure!

Super cute cafe with friendly people and tasty food! Nothing else to say. Their food is pretty standard but I absolutely love their hot drinks. The Mexican mocha and cafe de olla were superb. So rich and flavourful. Love the vibe here

Great food, amazing coffee! Super helpful and nice staff. My friend likes to say he didn't like tamales until he went to Café de la Olla, now he's OBSESSED; must try in here!

Café de Olla offers an authentic Mexican experience that's hard to beat. Their tamales are a must-try—packed with great flavors and just the right amount of spice. At about $6 each, they’re worth every penny. The texture is perfect, and the filling is always generous. If you're looking for a place that delivers on both taste and value, this is it. Highly recommended!

This place represents everything that is great about the Mission. It delivers world class, authentic Oaxacan food in a cool, hip and quirky cafe setting with a sustainability theme. My first taste in this cafe came from the michelada, which was absolutely sublime and spiced to perfection. The next was the chicken mole tamale and it blew my mind. It definitely was the best mole I’ve had in my life to this point. The last was the beef tlayuda, and it was absolutely delightful also. Make sure you give this place a try when you’re in the mission. It’s a a must stop by place.

Sandra and I missed the foods of Oaxaca, Mexico so had to stop by Cafe de Olla in San Francisco for tlayuda and tamales, along with a yummy dessert.

Craving delicious, homey, fresh Mexican food? Look no further! You can notice the love and dedication put into their dishes, which might seem so effortless and natural but are definitely noticeable and delightful ❤️ The memelas are a must try, and don't miss getting a side of quesillo. Yom. Wanted to treat myself to Oaxacan food. Got tlayuda filled with chapulines (fried grasshoppers... salty, citrusy, and crunchy) and huitlacoche (mushrooms that grow from corn ears). Sooo good. Their tepache and Oaxacan chocolate milk are tasty too.

Just stopped by for a coffee. Ordered a Café de Olla, home brewed with the perfect combo of spices and served in a beautiful clay pot. Super friendly staff, incredible pries. I was able to try the Tejate, a hot maize and cacao beverage which will now be a regular order for me. The food looked and smelled incredible, I’ll be back to eat soon.

I am Oaxacan and I go to this spot because the food reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking. You will find a variety of dishes and drinks, perfect for any meal of the day.

This place is great! A great alternative to the common taqueria style Mexican dishes you’ll find throughout the mission. In my top 3 of Mexican places in SF. I predict it’s only a matter of time before this places blows up and has overwhelming lines! Which would be a good thing! 👍

I had such a delightful experience at Café de Olla. The memela with cecina was flavorful and the first bite transported me back to my mom’s kitchen. The agua de jamaica wasn’t too sweet but instead rich and natural, almost like a wine. Had a joyful interaction with the cashier and enjoyed the beautiful art and colorful ambiance inside the restaurant. Pleased to have found a restaurant that helped me connect back to my roots and is authentically Oaxacan. The only thing I’d change is the size of the memela to be bigger as it wasn’t filling and lasted me only 3 bites. I’d definitely come here again to try the rest of the menu. Definitely recommend it for those who want to appreciate indigenous culture. ❤️

Well located, reasonably priced, and the food tastes good, but nothing exceptional. Very few vegan options, and the one I really wanted wasn’t available. They were able to adapt a couple of dishes for me, but the adaptation was just removing the cheese without adding anything else, so be prepared for a very basic flavor if you do that. I was really happy that they had Agua de Jamaica (and it was very good). I don’t think I’m interested in coming back.

Food was good but nothing really stood out. We had cafe de olla- it was pretty mid. We ordered food and the wait time seemed unusual long being that they were not too busy. We tried the mole tamale - it was okay. We also tried tlayuda - it was just ok.

-enfrijoladas made vegan with huitlacoche - 9.4/10 great specify no cheese -Chepil tamale - 9.5/10 excellent -Pina tamale - 9.4/10 great -frijol tamale - 7/10 good, but not the biggest fan of yerba santa personally I think -Memela made vegan with mushroom and avocado - 7.5/10 very good, just avocado wasn't ripe Nice people, tasty, healthy food. Would be great to see even more vegan dishes on the menu in the future! Or at least with more clear labeling for what's vegan. Would definitely frequent this place more if there were some more plant-based protein options.

I really wanted to like this place. The tamale was dry and bland and the Tlayuda was crispy but I have no idea what was inside. The meat tasted processed and it all had that really hot inside thing which seemed like they microwaved the food. Wasn’t too happy with it unfortunately.

The food was nothing special. We came for dinner and waited over 30 minutes because there were 4 other parties waiting for their food. If we had known we would have gone somewhere else. We ordered 4 varieties of tamales, the blue talyruda, and torta. It was all quite mild and they barely give you enough salsa. The only thing good was the hibiscus Agua fresca and the Mexican coke.
