Curry Up Now Alameda Reviews
My entire family gets takeout from here regularly. The food is always delicious and the staff are always helpful. We usually tend to get takeout, but when we do eat there the seating is very accommodating. We’ve been eating from here for so long, we’ve pretty much tried everything on the menu! They have a lot of branches around the Bay Area, but this one is my favor or by far!
We ordered 40 boxed paneer kathi lunches from Curry Up Now for a wedding party. Our guests were very happy with the food. It was very tasty and the portion size was perfect. The food was delivered in a timely manner and the delivery person was very helpful.
This place is fun. I'm one who likes color, so the menus themselves were sensory overload in a good way. It was a lot of fun to explore the menu and the food was just outstanding. There was a huge line outside for a restaurant that was across the street, and I have to be honest, I didn't understand why they weren't all coming in here.
Zack was awesome!! Food was lovely and service was great. Would come again!!
Had a hankering for samosas. Tried Curry Up Now for the first time. Their tiny samosas were outstanding! My only mistake was not getting 2 orders. Well, tomorrow's another day!
A friend introduced me to this place, and I love it. I love Indian food, but it can be hard to get vegan options. Here they highlight the vegan stuff! It's super easy to order through the app, or even schedule pickup. And I'm always getting rewards and money off :D I'll definitely keep coming here. (They have many locations in my home state of California!)
Had the best fresh samosas I’ve ever had today
I had yhe deconstructed Samosa. I ate at the Curry Up Now in San Mateo. It was delicious. Service was top tier. Atmosphere was casual dining. Service was prompt and professional. Space was clean and tidy. I liked it.
I enjoyed our meal here. The place is spacious w great funky wall art, it was not busy at all and the owner was very nice and helpful when I was ordering my vegan option. The food was served quickly and I overheard the owner double check in with the cook to make sure that my bread did not have any butter which was thoughtful of him. The presentation was beautiful and colorful. The dish was very flavorful and delicious, good serving size as well. We did ask for extra chutney sauce and were not charge extra for it. The entire experience was wonderful. CC accepted.
The food is always fresh and tastes great! Everyone there is friendly, and the food is prepared quickly!
The updated interior is relaxing I get the Thali platter because it's hard to decide what I want and that lets you choose three things Chicken Tikka masala bowl was a little spicy, actually all their food can be a little spicy so maybe ask what's mild before ordering if you're sensitive Deconstructed samosa was flavorful and pretty good Mango lassi is a yummy drink and good for cooling off the spice
Curry Up Now has several branches in Bay Area. First time in San Mateo Location. We ordered Pani Puri, Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji and Thali. You have to order at counter and they serve the food at the table. I like the choices on their menu. Food was pretty good. I like their fusion menu!
We had this place on our ‘want to go’ list for over a year and finally went today. It did not disappoint at all! It was during Covid and the had plenty of spacing inside to safely order and even outside seating on the closed street. We ordered the Death By Tikka Masala, Naughty Naan (pictured) and a kids meal. Service was polite and fast (about 10-15 minute wait). The food was very tasty, hot and fresh. Would highly recommend this unique spot!
Ordered the Thali: Meat Sweats with Kashmiri Lamb (Yummy!) and two (2) Chicken dishes, Ghee Makhni Butter Chicken (my favorite!) and Kadhi Chicken (spicier). The service is excellent, they really help those of us without a clue. Thanks to Charles at the restaurant and Mateo at the bar, Mortar & Pestle (see next review.)
This is the brick and mortar adaptation of the awesome food trucks you can find roaming throughout the Bay Area. And it’s is now even better, why the Mortar & Pestle bar behind, which connects directly via a hallway in the back, you can get delicious Indian fusion cocktails to accompany your sexy fries! Get the Mango lassi to counterbalance the spiciness. Highly recommend.
Excellent take on Indian fusion cuisine. Dining venue and atmosphere was hip and welcoming with plenty of seating and accomodations- long tables, more intimate 4 seating arrangements, and outdoor dining as well. There was plenty of COVID conscious measures to keep patrons safe and healthy. Hand sanitization dispensers were available throuhout the restaurant. The food itself was excellent. Menu has a large variety of options to choose from for all types of foodies, with plenty of vegetarian options and other health conscious options. The dishes we had were very flavourful and had a variety of spices, great for sampling different things to please the palate. Their mango lassi was creamy and fruity as expected; good stuff! Their fusion meal we had was plentiful in portions and was exceptionally tasty. Experienced a range of flavours I hadn't before which was nice. If you're looking to explore more tastes and reacquaint yourself with those you're familiar with, this place has what you need. Staff were wonderful and very patient as we all order. Give this place a try if you're in downtown Redwood City/San Mateo!
This restaurant was absolutely delicious! The servers were attentive, and the bartender was very friendly. The staff seemed knowledgeable about the menu, one that was pretty unique with word play. I would definitely recommend coming with a friend or even by yourself if you want some really good food.
If I could eat here every day I would. This is my new favorite place. To say I inhaled the Makhni Butter Burrito is true. The incredible flavor, my favorite things puts together burrito/Indian food, this was just amazing and I can’t express how much I am looking forward to coming here more often as the entire menu looked mouthwatering.
Service and food were amazing! Large portions, we shared the chicken tikka masala bowl plus the fried raviolis which are my favorite. Hoping business picks up for them so we don’t lose another great restaurant in downtown San Mateo.
Good quick bites and friendly staff, I’ve come here often enough to be considered a regular and I’m always greeted by the wonderful people who work here! The deconstructed samosa is wonderful, and there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options for us non meat-eaters. I definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner, but get ready to ask for a to-go box because the portions are very generous! There is plenty of seating for all group sizes, and there is even a connected bar area through the back if you’re looking for a craft cocktail.
Good fusion Indian food. The store is nice and clean. The staff are very nice and friendly. They gave us more time to look at the menu when we were still indecisive, offer small spoon for toddlers and water refills when asked. The restaurant is well decorated, giving cheerful vibe. Good music addition to enhance the atmosphere. My family had a great time there. The food is also good. We ordered 1 pav bhaji and non vegetarian thali. Ordered 2 hot chai but one was free. The not free one is bigger though. Still a good experience nonetheless.
We had Punjab by Nature bowl. The saag paneer in that was literally yumm. Loaded samosa chat was good too. We had pani-puri too where we were short of puris since 2 of them were broken already. Well hot gulabjamun with vanilla ice-cream was was another level- 100% must try. Overall good indian food restaurant. You can have drinks with food too.
Quirky fun Indian street fusion food. Love the variations to Indian classics. Surprisingly the fusion works well and tastes delicious. Love the atmosphere and the cool vibes. Funky decor and great service. What better way to enjoy a delicious treat. Thank you Curry up Now for innovative and good food as decent prices.
This is a very creative business, the way they created the fries being pretty much a samosa over on top of the potatoes with the peas, curry, carrots. Everything was screaming the hella vegan burrito 🌯 dessert with the natural spring water. The dessert with Ghee, lentil base….. I’ll be back here. Definitely recommend if your in San Mateo.
Decor is stylish and clean, with easy access to bar in the back. More of a dining-in experience here with table service. Still, not many people here... orders mostly seem to be pickup or delivery. Food is great, Indian taste but served in fusion formats such as burrito or a naan pizza. Only thing I would ask for is a choice in spiciness.
The food is great and always flavorful. I like to order the deconstructed samosas, Fried ravioli, and chicken tacos. Their mango lassi is very good too. My only complaint that I have now is that The chicken taco recipe has changed. It used to be really juicy and flavorful with grilled chicken, bell peppers, and pico de gallo. Now it has changed up to this horrible Recipe with chipotle sauce on it. Not nearly as good. I don’t know why they changed it. They should change it back.
I wish I would've taken pictures of my food like I normally do but I was so hungry I completely forgot! Anyways, the food was BOMB. I got the Hella Vegan Burrito and Hella Vegan Sexy Fries. I appreciate how they even had a gluten free tortilla option! That's what really sold me! Both items I ate were so flavorful and it was a good amount of food for the price! I wasn't able to finish my burrito so I took the rest to-go and it was still good the next day!! Inside the restaurant it's not really giving "the food here is delicious" vibes so don't let that fool you. Try it for yourself!
I recently ordered takeout from here. Liked the quality of the food. They offer bowls and thalis. The great part is that they let you you pick the base and curry to create your own perfect meal. Overall nice selection for quick Indian meal. The food was tasty, but a bit heavy on the oil. All in all, I would recommend this place for a satisfying takeout meal.
Super delicious hella vegan burrito! Mango lasso was pretty delicious too without being overly sweet. The burrito could have had a little less rice and a little more veggies etc.
This restaurant is a must-visit in San Mateo and very vegetarian friendly. I don't have opinion about other branches of this restaurant. I have tried - the different vegetarian burritos, kathi roll and fries. Delicious and filling!! On the appetizers list, most of them are priced a bit higher, but they do deliver on taste. Try the ginger-mint lemonade with your choice of meal; refreshing. Taste is very good but the food can be little more hot for my taste or may be a spice/hot level could be added into the order?
Modern but still Indian, crisp samosas with well-balanced chutneys and a warm, flavorful chai. Raoul who served me was very attentive.
As some of Pakistani and Indian background, curry up now is a good experience. The chaat flavor combinations are not at par with other traditional chaat shops but it gets the job done if you live around the San Mateo area. The Papdi chaat has good flavor and I would recommend a little more crunch. I felt the flavor combo for the deconstructed samosa was a bit strong but it’s also delicious with chicken. What I would recommend here is the tandoori chicken sandwich and the lamb keema pav. It has just the right amount of spice, aroma and fun experience. Most of their food is halal but not all so if anyone eats only halal meat, ask them in advance.
A nice small quiet place with Indian street food. They have chaats, Golgappas, samosa etc. then there is burrito too. They have option for veg and non veg thali. You have the option to choose any 4 items in the thali from the given menu items. Seating is nice. A bit on the expensive side though.
The packaging caught my attention right away. Last week, I ordered takeout for my trip to the airport. I opted for pav bhaji, paneer biryani, and kachori chat. The biryani surprised me with its generous topping of ginger shreds. Although hesitant at first, the combination proved delightful with each hearty bite. The pav bhaji, while slightly lacking in both quantity and flavor, still boasted the freshness of its ingredients, leaving me satisfied overall. As for the kachori chat, its harmonious blend of mint and tamarind chutney truly stood out, showcasing expert flavor curation. Next time I’m in SFO, I’ll definitely make a point to dine in at this restaurant. It offers affordability without compromising on the rich flavors I crave in Indian cuisine.
Saw this spot last night after the brave adventure that Mokutanya was and was eager to try it out! It's an interesting concept and definitely they wouldn't be the first ones to have tried it out but their menu offerings are interesting. A word of caution - their default spice levels are authentic and if your spice tolerance is low please get some buttermilk or lassi with your food to cool you down. Tried their Biriyani in Samosa which was an interesting concept, but the rice and overall biriyani was disappointing so wouldn't recommend that. Wouldn't recommend their Biriyani either. would say avoid any rice item on their menu as their rice isn't that flavorful. Their deconstructed Samosa is pretty good with all sauces hitting the right spots. I would give that a try. Kashmiri lamb the lamb and channa were good but again the bed of rice it was served on was disappointing. Will try the cauliflower rice next time. Oh yeah it is worth visiting again.
I've had the Chicken Tikka burrito before and it was good. On this visit, we ordered Tau (chicken biryani and boiled egg stuffed in a samosa shell) and Pani Puri. I'd say both the items were okayish. Though I like the concept of biryani in samosa, I wish it was more flavorful. All the food items are a tad bit overpriced. The service is good and the staff very friendly.
Food was delicious. I enjoyed the deconstructed samosa and the lamb Bowl. However, I also ordered the ravioli as an appetizer which I didn't enjoy as much as a fusion dish. The ravioli itself was fine and the masala sauce also delicious. But I didn't think the two together made a great combination. But everything else I had I thought was very delicious. I also tried a couple bites of my sister's Ghee butter chicken bowl that was also amazing. Service wasn't extraordinary. I did just place an order for pick up, so I can't really speak to the minimal interaction at the site. And they were not available for dine in.
I’ve been here a bunch of times in the past but unfortunately the dinner was just … so so bad .. tonight. I couldn’t even eat it. I’m not a picky eater. next time I’ll order the samosas - but if those aren’t good anymore I think I’m over going here sadly.
It is not an authentic Indian restaurant. It’s a touch of mexican style food with some indian menu.Check out the menu before going. No concerns as such but you should be aware of what to expect.
Brilliant food but they messed my order with meat. That’s a strict no-no for vegetarians. Also, they charged me more than what was written on the menu. It just feels wrong. I am going to come to this place again, but would prefer if something like this doesn’t happen. Meat thing happened twice to me (2 different branches). I hope this does not repeat. Pull it together guys, I really hope you do.
Went here on a weekend with a couple of friends. The downtown was hustling and bustling but the curry up now was totally empty. Barely one table was occupied. I think I had a much better experience in the san jose's one than here I took the chicken tikka masala combo. Which was written to be the most popular here. After having it I was not at all excited. It came with chana masala and rice and salad. The salad that is the pico de galo was way too little. Had to ask for some extra. The food tested okay. The dessert that is the gulab jamun felt like it was taken out of a tin. It was not at all fresh and enjoyable. It was a warm afternoon and when we asked for beer the choice was very limited. May be I'll avoid this spot next time I'm here.
The food was okay,My order was messed up and money not returned on my card because of them not having the drink. Customer service wasn’t the best, somewhat snobby attitude and nonchalant. Atmosphere was nice everything else no. Definitely would not return or consider trying anything else.
I ordered online which is super easy. I love Indian food. The food was okay overall 4 what it is. Samosas filling was more like mashed potatoes, sauce was not what it’s supposed to be the tamarind was sour instead of sweet and the green sauce didn’t have much flavor. Chicken: the batter was falling off of it! I might try it again maybe earlier instead of night time. Portion wise good. I gave this another try this time I had the masala burrito again not a fan… my daughter had the vegan Samosa burrito and that was delicious.. so I guess if you’re hungry and just want fast Indian food this is your spot
Honestly very surprised this place has lasted this long. Anyone who even a little about Indian food would know how bad the flavors are. The sauces are fake tasting / could be from a can. The papdi in the papdi chat was stale and flavor less. The Kathi roll was flat and even the samosa was disappointing. The chai tasted worse than Starbuck’s chai tea latte. Only has the atmosphere and service going for it.
Ordered Indian Chinese as we saw it as a recent addition, and what a waste of $50 delivery order ! We have long been loyal customers of theirs but if this is their growth and expansion strategy (apart from increasing prices) is this, I am not ordering anymore. Hard Manchurian balls, sweet and canned tasting gravy…. Never had worse food
I’ve been visiting Curry Up Now occasionally for almost six years, though not frequently. A year ago, I went there with a group of friends, and unfortunately, all of us got sick after eating. We stopped visiting the place after that incident, but I decided to give it another try today with a friend. To my surprise, both of us suffered food poisoning again. The quality of the food has drastically declined, and this experience has left me very disappointed. While their menu is interesting and offers a fusion twist, the cleanliness and food quality seem highly questionable. Given that this is the second time I've gotten sick from eating here, I can confidently say I won't be going back. It’s just not worth the risk.
Didn't answer the phone when I attempted to place a to-go order several times. It was a Friday night and upon arrival it hadn't gotten busy quite yet. Several employees standing around while cashier helped the only person placing an order so I'm not sure why they didn't answer the phone. The only place that was busy was the bar. The people in front of me took forever and it appeared that the cashier was training somebody and I was starting to get irritated because it was taking so long. After placing the order I had to wait approximately 10 minutes. I ordered the tikka masala chicken burrito which was surprisingly spicy. It cooled off after I got home and ate it later it was much less spicy. There wasn't very much chicken in it at all. And since I ordered that along with a glass bottle of Sprite and it came to $15 I would think there'd be a little bit more chicken in there. The place itself was beautiful, I love the decorations and there's a bar hidden in the back and that's where most of the people were. But as I mentioned, there were employees just standing around and it seemed like they could have been doing something.. like answering the phone for to-go orders. Atmosphere was good, food was less than adequate, price was too high. Not sure why this is such a popular place, although the burrito was huge.
The place is a little over hyped IMO. Good presentation, looks fun, they tried an interesting menu, they also tried bringing the Indian street elements and seem to be trying to do too many thingy at once. I could not understand how my food was lukewarm at the best when the kitchen was literally 20 feet away. 3 tables not being cleaned at any given time, I would say is a little unacceptable.
Had the kathri roll and it was absolutely drenched in grease. The parchment paper was wrapped inside the roll and absorbed a lot of the grease as well. When you bit into the roll, it completely fell apart. The upcharge for lamb was not listed on the menu presented, nor do they mention it to you when you order. The roll itself had no flavor and barely any meat. The people who work there are nice, but the food is lackluster. I wouldn't recommend.
Curry up - I suggest scurry out .Hyped up very ordinary fare. I had a few takeouts earlier and today had the opportunity to buy from their food truck at Foster city. The samosa was priced at $ 5 for one. I didn’t buy. Across the road you get fresh samosa for $1.29 at the Indian store. Unless the samosa has some extraordinary filling it is unreasonably priced at $5. Then there was this chick peas with sweet potato mash up. Nothing great and cannot be classified street food. Mango lassi. At $5 plus tax per glass was a rip off. The yogurt was sour. It was yellow in color but lacked any mango flavor. And to top it they had only filled half of the container. Day light robbery in my opinion. I don’t see myself eating in this facility ever again
I am a traveler so i have quite a lot experience of eating ready to eat packaged food. This restaurant serves exactly that. It’s not authentic Indian food.
I had a disappointing experience with “curry up now” last night . I found a hair in my food , which was unacceptable. When I asked for a refund, the staff responded with a complete lack of concern. While mistakes can happen, the way they handled the situation was unprofessional and showed a lack of care for their customers. I hope they take steps to improve their food quality and customer service.
I wish I had less thanks zero stars for this location and chain. We are vegetarians and we were served chicken in our food. How can one overlook hygiene factors while serving/providing options food that are vegan. Totally disappointed with this outlet. Their customer service during COVID-19 situation is worse and they direct everything to online.
This biryani is absolutely dreadful! It's basically just a mishmash of overpowering cinnamon sticks, leaves, and an excessive amount of curry paste, with barely any meat or rice. They charge a fortune for this subpar quality, it's like getting half of what you'd expect elsewhere. Definitely steer clear of this place if you want to save your hard-earned money!
I placed an order through Uber Eats for the Tikka Masala Burrito Combo under a Buy 1, Get 1 Free promotion for $31.20. However, I only received one burrito combo. The bag was stapled/sealed, so the second item was not included at delivery.
